A gift card brought us to San Lucas Tex Mex. We visited during lunch and had an amazing experience. The restaurant was moderately busy, and we were able to enjoy the entire rooftop to ourselves. The weather was beautiful, and our server was exceptional! He asked if it was our first visit and really helped to make it a great visit. Going above and beyond looked like--bringing my husband a sample of a beer based off of a conversation and surprising us with a dessert at the end of the meal. Based on the service alone, I'd return. So I definitely have driven past this place many times and never thought to eat her until today. This is probably one of the better Mexican restaurants in Gwinnett just based off the cute decor and clean interior. There's plenty of parking in the lot and the surrounding area has plenty of places for you to walk before/after eating. Now per usual, they start you off with the usual chips and dips but I opted to try the chicken empanadas. These were soooooooooo good! They tasted like a beef patty and the sweet chili sauce they came with were *chefs kiss* Were not the lil mini empanadas, they were the full sized ones which I appreciated. I ordered the tacos de Churassco as my entree with the steak medium rare. Now I think that may have been my downfall. The tacos were delicious--stuffed with rice, your choice of beans, and plantains so two was definitely more than enough. My only issue was how hard the steak was to break apart. I found myself taking a bite and then struggling to cut the longer pieces of steak out my mouth as well, so it is a little messy. San Lucas is a family favorite! Located in the complex called the 'rail yard' - it's very convenient to other top spots we like to visit and we usually pop by them all after our dinner (Grayson Park and Berens Custard). It's uniquely designed in a what I'll call Tex Mex modern. The interior is fun, colorful and adding in vibrant music makes it even more lovely and colorful. The place is always jamming when we dine. The service is fast, accurate and the food is superb- no wonder I go back! I've tried many dishes and I have no complaints. I even love the private, well kept bathroom. Went to San Lucas for my boyfriend's birthday. He likes a restaurant with ambience and San Lucas delivers there. We were offered a table outside which was nice. We went upstairs afterward to check out the bar and wished we sat up there. For the food and drinks, we ordered house margaritas and calamari. The margaritas were STRONG. We asked for limes to balance them out a little. They were very good. I appreciate a margarita you feel before your food comes. The calamari was meh. It was tender just tasted kinda oily. I've had better. My boyfriend ordered the Texas rice with three proteins and I ordered the seafood enchiladas. Food came out shortly after the calamari. Mine was delicious! The red sauce on the enchiladas was rich and flavorful. Mostly small chunks of fish in the enchiladas and a few shrimp pieces. He was not impressed with his rice. The portion was small. Three small strips of steak and chicken each and a few shrimp. He said the steak was chewy. He finished the whole plate and no leftovers Overall service was efficient and drinks were strong. Visited San Lucas for lunch today but service was very, very poor. And maybe it was about being short-staffed but.... There were 5 of us. Half of my party was seated before I arrived. I went to the bathroom and by the time I returned, no one had come to take our drink order. I went to the hostess and she was regretful and said that someone had been assigned. Another server said that our table was probably hers but she hadn't been told. Someone asked another server about a dish he was carrying and he brushed them off. I saw that another table that arrived after us already had drinks and chips and salsa while we had been ignored. We decided to leave and go elsewhere and the server didn't seem at all upset to see us go. I don't know if this dismissive behavior would happen with white people. Because as a Black person, we have to deal with being disregarded too often. I would never return here. read more

Had the opportunity to score a soft opening reservation and I believe this place is going to be very well received in the Grayson community. This was the first day of a soft opening and the staff was awesome and engaging albeit with a very controlled number of reservations. The margaritas are very much on point and the food is very tasty and fairly priced. A couple of things to keep in mind this is a cozy restaurant so expect wait times once it is fully open. The food and drink menus could use some visuals as not every one will know what all the items are that are available. The building and decor are cool however the eating experience is obnoxious. The first time I ate here the live music was so uncomfortably loud that I couldn't hear the person sitting next to me. I called ahead to reserve an area for a small party with a few adult guests and they sat us in the center of the restaurant. The second time I visited there was no live music however the speakers were playing very loud obnoxious music. The food is fine but nothing new or exciting. And for our fish tacos, we ordered them in corn tortillas. Corn tortillas break apart easily so they're usually doubled up on. Not here. Sent it back two times , only for it to be overcooked. Person 3: Empanada, chicken enchiladas. Enchiladas came out with green sauce when I specifically asked for red sauce. They bring out red sauce TO POUR ON TOP of the green sauce???? Seriously??? Rice was hard, like it sat the bottom of the pan. Chicken was bland - a soft tortilla and chicken..nothing else. Person 4: Ground beef nachos: literally meat and cheese. No lettuce, pico, NOTHING. We sent food back so many times, the server didn't come around anymore to ask how things were going .‍ Forgot to take pics because I was so pissed about my food. I was so excited to try this restaurant especially after I saw people partying on their roof top and patrons eating outside on their patio! My first thoughts were what a wonderful addition to Grayson! I had lunch at San Lucas on a Saturday afternoon. I ate inside on the first floor. To my surprise only one worker had on a mask! I really should have followed suit of a party of two who left immediately after being seated but I decided to stay. San Lucas does not have an extensive menu but most items are pricey. The lunch section really looked more appealing than the main section. I ordered chicken tostones and a mango margarita. The tostones were not eye appealing or good! The grilled chicken was prepared with small slabs of meat that was chewy and bland. My waitress asked if I would like salt and pepper and I agreed. I usually do not add salt to my food but these tostones needed help! I also witnessed two staff members assembling cutlery and napkins without gloves. Neither were masked and one (my waitress) kept checking her cell phone. My margarita was good but this restaurant charges a dollar more for mango. The flan was super cold and not overly sweet. I have had better flan elsewhere. Overall, I probably will not patronize this establishment again The food and drink were mediocre at best but the discomforting issue is the staff not practicing COVID-19 protocols. Perhaps they are all fully vaccinated as am I but it certainly adds value when restaurant personnel puts forth an effort to ensure customers feel safe and appreciated. I will continue to patronize my favorite Mexican restaurant that is 3 miles down Grayson Highway. This is one of those reviews that you get excited about writing. This place recently opened in Grayson and let me tell you, it's a charm. I had been waiting for them to open and received an invite from a friend to meet them there. It has three levels. The first level is the restaurant area with tables. This is best for people who want to come in and dine without distractions from people at the bar or music. The second level is the BEST level. It has the bar and they play really great music. While I was there a customer asked for them to turn down the music. I was disappointed as they have made the proper area for people who don't like the music. The third level is the outside patio; however I think as told it wasn't completed. I gave them five stars because it was so much fun there. That being said, San Lucas hits it out of the park with their establishment. Walking in, you're greeted by a beautiful aesthetic; modern, with clean lines and triangles and squares in every direction, all coming together quite nicely. Then, of course, the margaritas: so much YES! I ordered the classic with passion fruit, and it did not disappoint. It was well balanced and the passion fruit wasn't just a sugary syrup or a mix, it was legit pulp, making this one of the best margaritas I've had out and about. Lastly, I ordered chicken tacos for taco Tuesday, one on corn and one on flour, and the portions were perfect, the chicken juicy, and the double wrap for the corn tortilla appreciated and perfect! The kids meal had great variety which I appreciated since my kid doesn't always want chicken finger or a burger, and I loved that they had crayons and the kids menu itself had lots of activities and pictures to color.
