The pot sticks amazing, the Coca Cola amazing This was the busiest Thai food restaurant a few years ago but they never recovered after corona. I think it's a damn shame this restaurant isn't as busy as it used to be, we used to stand outside and wait for a table now it's empty but the food is absolutely positively A+++ 10 out of 10. Ordered the chicken panang curry that seemed to have a whole can of peas with a side of bell pepper and chicken. I'd call it PEA-nang curry instead. Crab cake was underwhelming. Compared to the other times my partner ate at sanamluang, it definitely different and larger than when we ate this time around. Might not get this again. Sanamluang Cafe used to be the spot 15-20 years ago in the San Fernando Valley. It used to be a place that was open 24 hours and a spot you go to at 2-3am after a night of clubbing and drinking, when all other restaurants would be closed in the wee hours of the morning. Another Yelper commented that this place was lackluster. Well he nailed it on the coffin. First off, it was hard to find now since it's in a strip mall where all other shops are now permanently closed. Well at least you know parking is no longer a problem here unlike back in the days when you would be lucky to find a parking on the street. Ordered a noodle dish that was supposed to have duck. No duck flavor in the broth and it came out looking like ramen noodles instead of egg noodles and the broth was so bland. Usually, a Thai boat noodle soup would have a rich, beef, savory flavored broth with flavors of herbs and spices. This was bland and took a bit of "doctoring" up with condiments in order to make it taste decent. The beef pad see ew did not have that unique IFYKYK taste you would expect from cooking on a hot, fiery wok. We happened to be driving back home but wanted to get Thai food on the way home. What i should've done is drive a few miles further and ate at the Wat Thai temple. Everything we ate here cost almost freaking $85 dollars including a Thai iced tea and a Sprite with the colored syrup. Save your money and go to Wat Thai for a tastier, food experience. read more

Came here since I was young. Got the chive cake fried. It was hot crispy, flavorful, filling of chives. I'm not a fan of the sauce so I make my own with the chilis and soy sauce! So good!! Also got a bowl of wonton noodle soup! Broth was perfection - well balanced! Of course I need spice so I added the chili condiments! Noodles were springy. Vegetables were crispy. It was always super busy, and after a late night of drinks, Thai food was the perfect way to end the night. They used to stay open until 4 a.m. -- back in the day. Fast forward 15 years and, especially after COVID, things have changed. The crowds have died down, and they now close at 9 p.m. When we visited during lunch, it was uncomfortably warm inside. There are many Thai restaurants in the San Fernando Valley but this place has been consistent over the decades. I have a lot of Thai friends that also enjoy this place - I think that speaks volumes. It's not a fancy place and the location can be difficult for parking when its busy but it's usually worth the visit. It is open pretty late and perfect for night owls who want a nice hot authentic dish. Service can be a hit or miss but they are never rude, just juggling a lot between take out and dining there. I am located on the furthest end of the valley but every time I am out in this direction and want Thai food, this is my go to spot. The quality of food here has gone downhill... It's been a while since I was last here and remembered how great it was. Late night Thai just did the trick. Well this time, it was so not even up to par. The original location in Hollywood was the spot for all the late night bar and clubs goers. You literally had to get there by a certain time or else it was a major wait. And they stay open till the wee hours of morning. Then they opened this location years later. The food was great then and also late night goers would stop off here for a meal. Well, this time it wasn't what we're used to. There was another place that we were actually going to go but they apparently closed early. Hour before the normal time from prior. We ended up which was pretty quiet as we thought it was still early before the night goers. Waitress was very friendly and sweet. Food didn't take long to arrive but everything was so bland and pretty flavorless. Papaya salad was just whatever. General noodles was very bland even with all the sauces I added and ordering extra Chinese broccoli hoping it will add to it but still flavorless. Panang was watered down and pretty tasteless. The fried fish was actually good. Not the same taste and experience as we were used to from many previous visits. And they were closing which even oh the hours they said it was 1am. This place is very popular way years ago like early 2000 always pack since they open late during those times and their food is better than today. Another thing I noticed is the generous amount of salt use in each dish. In terms of the Satay, the dipping sauce is a disappointment because for me it will definitely make or break the dish.The serving size platter worth sharing is the only positive side. They use aluminum cooker to serve their Tom Yum soup it's not safe and unhealthy. I notice only one server when we ate there during a Thursday dinner time not a lot of people but the service is slow motion. It's a pretty good spot but I think I prefer the Hollywood location because they have duck there. However, I ordered their papaya salad and morning glory and they were both really great and flavourful. My friend ordered the curry which was thick and spicy, just the way a good curry should be, and she also ordered the boat noodle, which was a generous size. This restaurant has definitely gone down hill. Walked in there with my parents, place was completely empty. The woman behind the counter just awkwardly stared at us. Her attitude was like she was annoyed that customers came in. We sat down and waited more than 10 min before she finally came to our table. It's not a good sign when the restaurant is dead, empty with inflated menu prices and sh*t attitude from a server. Tom y chicken this is the coconut soup on a hot pot. We ordered non spicy with chicken- it was good but more than a broth, just few dark chicken and mushrooms- it was really good. Be careful on the flame from the pot . I almost burn my sleeves taking pictures of it. Pad Thai - with shrimp was ok. Mango sticky rice was a game changer for our dessert, the mango was perfectly ripen sweet, the sticky rice was warm and sweet with a small dash of coconut on the side. Small hole in the wall in North Hollywood. Parking is easy to find, they have a big parking spot in the back & some in the front as well. Pretty loud inside, it echoes so you can hear different families having conversations. The service was good but slow, seems like they were understaffed. The food is good quality and not greasy and the Tom Yum soup had a lot of flavor. The Jasmine tea was perfect at first but the longer you let it sit in the tea pot, it gets more bitter and undrinkable because they leave the leaves in there so it steeps for too long. The shrimp they use is de veined and cooked perfectly. The mango sticky rice was good, missing more of the white sauce and the crunchy nuts they usually put on top. A true North Hollywood establishment with great thai food + a huge menu. We always order the crab cakes to share. Try their fried rice with shrimp paste if your a fan of their combination fried rice. Pad see ew is great and so are their rice plates, like the garlic pepper + your protein choice. I think there are some items on the menu that are better than others, but you just have to know what to order. Service is great, Apple has been there for decades. My mom used to come here after clubbing in the 90s and now its my turn as they're still open late. Came here with party of three. Wanted to eat outside as we had support animal. Lady gave me a look and long pause, I assume it was quite hot that day. But, I have a support animal and we were okay eating in the heat. It is what it is, do you want my money or not? 10 minutes into meal server passive aggressively said "you're not hot?" as if she was going let us eat inside with a support animal. I came again with my boyfriend last night, after finishing a game night with friends. It was pretty late, and I remember this place always being open when I needed a good, decent priced meal after most places were closed. Thankfully, they survived the pandemic and are still open late, until 12. We arrived and sat outside. I ordered the roasted duck noodle soup and my boyfriend got the basil fried rice. Our food came out quickly. My bowl of soup was huge. It was pretty good, though a bit sweeter than I remember it being. My boyfriend enjoyed his fried rice, but I didn't try it. 1 1/2 minute read: This restaurant has been in business (here) for a long time. They had a big following before the covid pandemic, but as in many other places, business was affected. Their menu is excellent- the soups, wonton, seafood dishes, chicken, beef, pork, and the best vegetables are used. We love their Wonton Soup and my wife is especially nuts for their Shrimp Fried Rice. Anytime you go will be fine, as far as crowds are concerned. Their service isn't perfect but then again, 'service' is a subjective topic. The cashier normally will answer phone orders and greet walk-ins. Of course, you can dine in as well. Street Parking is available. They also have a parking lot with one Handicap space. It is usually full. If you become a regular and call your order in, they log what you've ordered thus making it fast and easy. They are closed on Tuesdays (today), so tomorrow, I'm calling in my order and picking it up. In the instruction we specifically said no salt, because I'm pregnant and I can't eat that much salt so to make it easy we just said no salt at all. Instead of no salt they made the dishes extra extra salty! On top of that, their morning glory was like 2 biters, literally! The box looked like it was scooped up from someone's leftover and gave it to us then added extra salt. Not only that it was a two biter their morning glory was not fresh, it was blackish filled with stems. I called them, they said because we ordered delivery through Postmates so they couldn't do anything about it. This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the North Hollywood area. Coming to this Thai restaurant in late afternoon paid off since, in the prepandamic time, it would have been crowded with lunch- or dinner-rush-hour crowd. The restaurant was pretty clean, and the ambient of the restaurant decor gave you a much more modern look as opposed to a typical, traditional Thai statuettes decor. A few past remodeling gave the restroom a bit more clean and modern looks as well. The menu was updated with more Thai curry entries (old menu had no thai curry at all) in it. For those thrill seeker foodies, here is your chance to prove to your friends how much heat from the spice you can take on your dish. Just mentioned the spiciness of your entrée to your waitress/waiter. She or he may questioned your request as if you may be out of your mind, but what the heck, they sure love to see you sweat and suffer eating in delight. We chose the two menu items in pictures, #34 Spicy beef noodle soup and #64 Pad ka paow (a pork dish stir fried mint leaves in spicy hot sauce). I was surprise that, this time, the pad ka paow didn't quite meet my spiciness standard. I had to admit, my baldhead didn't sweat much at all! The sweat was my litmus test to the spiciness of the dish I ate. The more profusely I sweat, the more I could tell it was hot . I would rate the spice level of the dish using 7.5 out of 10 drops sweat rating. Asides from the spiciness, the mint leaves and garlic spicy oil lathered pork dish tasted rather delicious. The beef noodle soup was very similar to Thai boat noodle soup with handful of tender beef tendons. My rating also reflected on the great personalties of the personnel working there. The friendly and attentiveness of the hostess and waitress/waiters, the creativity and tastiness of the cook, the thoroughness of the bus-person, and even the cleanliness of the dish washers and janitorial personnel. I will definitely go back for other items in the menu that I haven't order this time. Durian (could be seasonal) sticky rice is my favorite go to sweet appetiser menu items. Until then, I'll recommend this authentic Thai restaurant to those new to the area and existing customers who haven't been back since the pandemic. read more

One of my favorite go to Thai restaurants! I've tried many places around SoCal and I always gravitate towards coming back here. Everything is packed full of flavor. My favorite things to get here are their beef pad see ew (with pad Thai noodles instead cause I love the thin noodles) and their green curry with chicken.
