As a first-timer at Sandwell, I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted and served by the owner himself. He was welcoming, explained his concept, and was all around nice. It was a tough choice, but I ordered a spicy eggplant sandwich and a side order of the truffled mushroom salad. Both very very delicious. My only teensy complaint/suggestion would be that the mushrooms came across as too salty for my palate. Of course, it's not a deal-breaker, just an alert to those who try to minimize salt in their diet. I look forward to returning in the new future to try some of the other options that I had to pass on this time. I live in the neighborhood, so it's an easy walk to and from. Ordered The Wild Bird since there weren't a lot of options that really caught my attention on the menu, but had to try it since it's a new spot in UWS. Nice looking sandwich shop, but that's about all I was excited about. My sandwich took at least 10-15 minutes for whatever reason. Overall sandwich was pretty bland and lacked any real notable flavor. I think the only reason it did have any flavor was from the hot sauce I had added to the sandwich. While the food descriptions sound great, the overall product was really mediocre and I didn't even bother with finishing the other half. Won't be a place I hit up for a sandwich in the future unfortunately. read more

Where's the whipped burrata? This was a fast favorite in our house hold when they opened, sadly the quality has gone down hill in the last few months. Almost no whipped burrata on sandwiches anymore (even requested extra for $2 and was lacking...) and have received a couple orders with stale bread. Not good at all. I ordered the chicken parm sandwich and it was not good. The chicken had no flavor - not seasoned at all, the marinara or whatever tomato sauce they used was terrible, no flavor, very acidic, not cooked down properly I now have heartburn. The bread was bad, the creamy burrata cheese just doesn't work, sorry. Use mozzarella for crying out loud. Photos of the food looks amazing, but I tossed this tasteless dud in the trash. Trying to reinvent the sandwich? Try better, go to your local deli or pizzeria for a better sandwich instead, and probably cheaper. read more

Beware if you have any restrictions or allergies. I've had some excellent sandwiches here, but today my sandwich had a rogue piece of chicken in it (that I only noticed after it was in my mouth). The staff were sooo nice! And the sandwich was reaalllly good. Their bread is very fresh. It's a regular spot with a few chairs to sit and eat and a few chairs outside too. It would be really cute in the warm months. I had the buffalo chicken and really enjoyed it despite the fact that I'm not a fan of celery so that says a lot.
