My family and friends were passing through and we searched online for a place for Dinner. My last name is Magee. (The other uncommon way to spell it) so we chose it simply because of the last name. Love to come here with my mother on a nice girls day out. The broccoli and cheese soup is a favorite amongst most, i dont know what they do differently but they do it right. All of their sandwich's are high quality and delicious. The fruit is all very fresh, ripe and cut to order, so you know you're NOT eating pre-processeed 2 day old frozen fruits. They have these what my mom and I call a "heart attack waiting to happen" anyway, back to point they have these butter bread chips that are so addicting. I recommend this place to anyone! read more

Five stars is for the staff, there is limited space for waiting but we squeezed in tightly, the large menu board is easy to see when you walk in the door, you order, pay and get seated, not streamlined but technology has not whacked out the human factor here. A table for two in a pressing lunch crowd on a Saturday -- the staff were sufficiently chilled. We ordered plant base lunch, downside--no hand made shakes available. We did not try dessert either, portions were monster size. People were dining at the bar which is tucked in a corner. Best soup and salad place around. It has a lot of great things on the menu. The City Secretary is my personal favorite. The poppy seed fruit dip is mouthwatering! The lunch crowds can be a little big and the stay can sometimes go over your lunch hour, which can get you in trouble at work. Our office visits Sandy McGee's quite frequently because we enjoy dining in and ordering take out. After today's carry-out experience, I have to agree with a previous review stating "sadly it's not what it used to be". We returned to work with the order and realized there was an item missing. We called and spoke to a gentleman who said he would have a sandwich made, and to help compensate, it would be a whole sandwich versus a half. After making another trip to Sandy McGee's pick-up area a male employee handed me a box and said HIS kitchen staff swears they put the sandwich in the bag and that I need to check the bag when I return to the office. So, not only were we inconvenienced by one person having to wait for their food, and having to make a return trip, no, we were accused of lying about not getting a half of a sandwich? Add insult to injury, he states "But I'm going to give it to you anyway" It was a half, not a whole sandwich as stated. No apology, no thank you. WOW. Our order was over $70.00. What arrived...sandwiches and fruit soaked in pickle juices on two meals, another tasted like pickles (which we learned after calling why) plus 2 cheeses on another sandwich. Wow! This place is fantastic! The food was delicious and service was great. I ordered a lunch combo that came with soup, salad and sandwich. It was a huge portion! Plenty to eat. They also serve complimentary toast which was also delish. The 4 Stars are because there is no changing table in the restroom for children. I had to go out to my car to change my sons diaper, which was very disappointing. Also I noticed a lot of chair were torn and ratted. Our table was very wobbly as well. Food was really good. However, having to pay a 15% gratuity at the counter as soon as you order your food was a little questionable (yes, we had a large party). This was our first time here so was assumed there would be servers after you sat down to get your refills or see if you needed anything. Nope, someone came and dropped the food off and that was it. Had to get your own silverware and refills. So what did our 4 paying parties pay an extra 15+% for??? Then had to get up and order desert from the counter and was asked to pay another 15% gratuity and waited 30 minutes to find out the person that made our entire table pay 15% gratuity failed to put our dessert order in and had already left to go home. Good food, great atmosphere. Broccoli cheese soup is great! Tortilla soup & fresh fruit are good. Garlic bread is good.Try and go early for lunch because it gets PACKED! Waiters slow & don't come back to check anything. Serve yourself drinks. A little pricey for what you get but in a small town there are limited local restaurants. Was out and about last night and watched a cook working on his vehicle. Now I am a mechanic I can tell you you would not want me cooking your food after working on vehicles. You can scrub your hands but you never get all the grease and grime out of or off your hands. I know I won't eat here after watching this. The customer service here was terrible . The cashier taking our order had an attitude the whole time taking our order . A confrontation between employees happened in the customer dining area which led to two terminations. Management here doesn't have a tight grip on the employees here . My daughter got 2 chicken strips and fries for $8. Maybe if her food was made fresh, but it was frozen food! Really, kids plate shouldn't be over $4, for that kind of food. Came here for a late lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Two of us ordered the quiche plate with spinach and bacon quiche. The other two members of our group ordered a pasta salad and a veggie sandwich. We also ordered a spinach and artichoke dip for a starter. The food was delicious. We had a sizable portion and were unable to finish everything. They are terrible with customer service in regards to making the customer pleased! I had a problem with the banana pudding I had ordered because it was not made right because it was too soupy and not enough pudding as opposed to only having whip cream. Great food but good luck getting any of it. The service is appallingly slow and unorganized. Literally had servers walk by our table while we stared them down and still nothing happened. It took a walk up to the counter to get waited on. This has been an on going trend here and the only thing that keeps us going back is the broccoli soup. It feels like that episode of Seinfeld when they dealt with the soup Nazi. I am not sure who to blame, the owner or the staff. But despite all this, there is one outstanding older gentlemen who is not even apart of the wait staff but always checks on us because he is aware of the problems happening out on the floor. If you're stuck on Jury Duty in Fort Bend, you might as well make the best of it and have lunch at Sandy McGee's. I was sent in this direction by someone at the courthouse and was glad I tried it. It's a Ladies Who Lunch kind of spot so it's heavy on salads, sandwiches, and fresh fruit, but it's all very good and the staff knows how to handle the crowds and get you served when it's busy. The desserts were good, the atmosphere was so cute, but the service was absolutely horrible. The lady at the counter was slow and rude. She made us wait for five minutes standing there staring at her to order while she organized things around the register. One of the people in our party ordered their pie a la mode, and was met with only a blank stare. Once the cashier learned what a la mode meant, she rudely said "around here you just say you want ice cream". When you're in the restaurant industry, you should know basic restaurant lingo and be able to practice effective customer service. Also, they were out of half of their desserts. I don't know what the big deal is about this place. I think it's popular just for being popular. The food wasn't that good. The clam chowder and broccoli cheese soup was watery and not very flavorful. The chicken salad wasn't anything to write home about. The only good thing was the buttery garlic toast. The food came out at different times and the dessert took a long time to come out as well even though we ordered them ahead of time. The line to order was long. I had to ask the staff to brew some more tea. The section we were in was dark and several lightbulbs were out in the fixtures. One of the tables of 2 moms and kids allowed the kids to sit on the floor and do crafts/coloring and the waitstaff said nothing even though they were sitting at a table for 6. What?! The food is okay. I have been there at least 20 times in the past 10 years. Some days the food is very good and some days its just okay but the food is never bad. The service is not good on a regular basis. Most of the employees are clueless about customer service and how a restaurant works and the fact that customers are the reason for their employment. The only person that I have ever seen there that actually cares is the bus person. He has been there forever and knows more than all of the "servers" combined. They should make him a manager.
