I want to start by saying there is only one reason I took a star away and that is bugs outside. I totally understood what you said that you can use citronella because people would complain. But there is so many things you can use now. Our waitress was kind enough to get us some off. They are that bad outside. So even though they did a great job a decorating outside and they have live music, stay inside the bugs are annoying. Customer service is outstanding. All the staff is young upbeat and love their jobs. Food excellent. It was a great finish to our visit to Michigan. read more

First time here. We found this place on OpenTable and we're excited about the view they showed. Outside was a bit dumpy when we pulled up, but inside was a nice environment. Had a 14oz steak medium rare, inside horribly undercooked. Only streak sauce option was a house bistro (brown gravy). So don't get a steak if you like A1 like me. Girlfriend had the scallops which were large but under flavored and the kale under cooked. We didn't get offered dessert ;(. The cheese tray appetizer was amazing and the only reason I give it 2 stars. For a $100 dinner with drinks I expect better. We may give it another try but needs some changes. read more

Great night at Sandy. Food was excellent and the atmosphere, although a little loud, pretty much was perfect for a beach house type of atmosphere. Our table ordered a Club sandwich which had a 1/2" thick slice of turkey with blt. Ok, but not as expected. Inquiry about Reuben had thick sliced corned beef, not thinly sliced and stacked (my kind of Reuben). Hamburg was good, $10. $1.99 extra for fries. Only two soup choices. Water served in carafe for us to pour into small wine glasses. Although newly renovated, the ceiling needs some acoustic, absorbable material. Rustic decor. I didn't find any fish or shrimp dishes. We live on the lakeshore and have the privilege of dining and socializing at the Beach House! Krista, the manager is so wonderful and Kevin, the bartender couldn't be more sweet. Sandy point beach house was probably one of the few restaurants that i've been to that has lacked customer service. The food was good but the overall experience there was unpleasant, unfriendly, and unprofessional. There was one hostess who sat us who overall looked very unfriendly and their attitude matched. The blond woman who i assumed is the manager just stood there and talked to the bartender. I don't recommend going to this restaurant unless you'd like to be greeted with unfriendly faces, average tasting food, and repugnant customer service. read more

We arrived at 11 am on an overcast Sunday, fully expecting brunch, and were given lunch menus. Everyone around us was eating eggs and French toast (which was what we were planning on), and instead, we ordered sandwiches. Coffee was not-so-good, tasted like whatever GFS sells by the case. My husband had the burger with brie, which you don't see very often. He liked the cheese, but the patty had that classic formed-by-a-machine appearance. I had the braised short rib sandwich with arugula and boursin. Nice flavor. I also had fries, which had a great crunch, but could have handled a little treatment with some nice sea salt. The fries came with this kind of bland, runny sauce - ketchup with mayo. Our server was very attentive and had a great disposition - really liked him. I'd like to go back for another try, either earlier in the day so we can try the breakfast dishes, or during peak season, when I assume the place must be pumping with activity. A nice location, a bit off the beaten path, between Holland and Grand Haven. Prices reflective of a tourist hot spot. Not outrageous, but a bit more than they should be. read more

Went here for the first time a little over a week ago, and I was quite impressed. The food is fantastic. Among the standouts were the bacon-wrapped dates, and red wine creme brulee, which was one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. Our waiter was also top-notch, refilling our water repeatedly and checking in often. Overall, it was a great dining experience. The reason I'm deducting a star has to do with the hostess. The reason we decided to try Sandy Point in the first place was because a local musician we enjoy was playing there. On the website, it shows a band playing inside, so I assumed that would be the case. However, on arrival, we realized that there was an outdoor section, and that was where the live music was set up. When we checked in, I asked the hostess if they had anything available outside and she flatly said "no," without actually checking or further explaining. So we were seated inside, and did have a lovely meal. But as we left, we checked the outdoor area and there was almost no one out there. It seems highly unlikely that the entire section was full and everyone left before we did. So it seems there are two possibilities: either the hostess just couldn't be bothered to check, or perhaps the outdoor area is more of a beer garden type setup, where they don't actually serve food. If the latter is the case, that should have been explained. Either way, I was rather put off by that aspect of our experience. read more

I was on staycation and wanted to have a nice dinner out with the friends in our isolation bubble, so I chose to end our day at Sandy Point Beach House. I've eaten their food at some charity events but I've never been to the restaurant. I was happy to be able to get a reservation for six people and they put us at a table inside. We were the only ones inside the dining room, and the outdoor patio was socially distanced and crowded. The place was very busy handling takeout orders and the bar and dinner crowds. The drinks and dinner food came quickly, but once our main meal was served the waitress never checked back on us. She lost some drink sales because of that, because we all wanted to order refills on our beers and cocktails. My friends had burgers and said they were great. My friend enjoyed the beet salad. My husband thought the burger meat was bland and needed more salt. I had scallops and risotto. It was so nice to eat a delicious meal at a sit-down restaurant! After dinner there was plenty of room to sit and chat on the outdoor deck. I'm happy to see they offer live music at their patio bar on the weekends. I look forward to returning! read more

Came in after a round a golf with some buddies for drinks and a bite, yesterday. Two hours later our food came, and was cold, everything seemed like it too forever. The part that made me upset was the party of 8 before us were sat, dined, and departed before our food even came. My party and I will not return. Awful front of house service. I called this restaurant right before driving there to ask the wait time (I was 10 minutes away), the lady who answered the phone had a poor attitude and said, "There's no wait time, but there are a lot of reservations coming in." I asked, "Do you accept walk-ins?" She answered, "Yes, we do." I go there and the short, larger, older lady (who answered the phone) was so disrespectful from the start. She asked, "Do you have a reservation?" I said, "No, I just called and asked if there was a wait time and if walk-ins were accepted." She says, "Just because we accept walk-ins, doesn't mean that we have room for you." I asked what the wait time would be and she says 40 minutes. Like why would you not say on the phone that it will probably be a 40 minute wait time for walk ins? I honestly do not know how she continues to be employed when she treats people like they are lesser, not one person is better than another in this world. I have worked in service before and I would never have spoken to someone with that level of rudeness, your interaction dictates whether that person would be willing to return to the establishment in the future--I will not ever go there, nor would I recommend anyone else that I know go there... read more

I'm sure some of the reviews on here are from BH employees. The food is overrated, expensive and most times not cooked right. I live close by and keep hoping it improves, but it's getting worse. I watch the staff turn away tons of people because they have no reservations and then see tables open. The staff is slow and poorly trained. The menu stinks and a $11 hamburger won't save this place. What an amazing Yelp find! This restaurant was fantastic. We went for dinner on a Wednesday evening. It was busy, but staff was attentive. I had the rigatoni and my wife ordered the scallops. Had our first meal there on Jan. 16th. Started with an appetizer of brie and crispy focaccia and also the mussels. Both were very good, especially the mussels! My wife had the scallops and I had the steak special and we were very pleased with the food and the service. The atmosphere is open but still conversation friendly. Cory is a local and has the experience to make this place into a destination restaurant for those who live in Holland or Grand Haven. This summer they will have bocci ball too! Tonight my lady and I tried out the sandy point beach house. It is an elegant setting with a lot of great staff to boot. To start I ordered the mussels which were fabulous but half of them were not in their shell. I then ordered the delmanico that cost 30$ so I thought it would be a great purchase with great flavour. I ordered it medium rare just the way I love steak. I got the steak and it was cooked well done..... The lady ordered filet mignon also medium rare and received it well done .. I was not happy because if I wanted beef jerky I would have picked up some jack links at shell instead of paying 60 dollars for steak I could cook my self. Moving forward I had a bite of the brussels sprouts that came on the side. They were like rocks !! Horrible!! I send the steaks back and the ladies steak comes in 10 mins mine on the other hand 40+ mins after and mind u she has finished her meal now... I start into the steak and realize it was not even cooked and is extremely rare. I couldn't even eat it .... I was still hungry from not being able to eat my meal so I order Creme brûlée which they claim is the best on the menu... We get it and it is cold and burnt ... I did not enjoy this experience one bit!! I'm sorry but this was the worst dining experiences I have ever encountered... To boot in the end the bill was still 108$ biggest waste of money I have ever spent and I left hungry ... Don't waste ur time read more

I really wanted to like this place. We drive by frequently and I finally convinced my husband to stop and try it. We were seated outside, which was nicely set up. Our server brought us waters right away. I asked for lunch menus since it was still considered lunch time (4:30pm). He asked "what time is it?" And commented on how he is "working with a bunch of 4-yr olds" and went to get us lunch menus. He brought the menus then proceeded to forget us. Never took our drink order. 7 minutes passed and we decided we weren't into the whole dining experience that was yet to come, so we left. We passed no less than 7 servers hanging out at the host station discussing what station they were all being assigned to. They never looked at us and we walked out unnoticed. The Beach House is very cute but that isn't enough to warrant your very pricey bill. Drinks are too-sweet, and served in plastic cups. Everything is over priced. My white fish was dry and bland, and came with what were clearly frozen green beans (a travesty, given Michigan's excellent green beans right now!) for something like $25/plate. My boyfriend's pasta was fine at best and didn't even come with enough bread for the sauce (want a side of bread? $4!). His pasta was overcooked and also clearly not homemade (again, something I'd expect for a $24 plate of noodles). They were out of several menu items and we weren't told until we tried to order. We paid over $100 in the end (and each had just one drink). I wouldn't recommend anyone go there, and we won't be back. read more

This place is the most consistently inconsistent restaurant in our neck of the woods. It's safe to say that the service is absolutely terrible. How it stays in business is beyond me. I think they change the menus so often that they can't find any consistency. Our last meal featured chicken with soggy skin and butternut squash noodles that were crunchy and stuck together. I would recommend staying away from SPBH. There aren't any options in West Olive, but Grand Haven isn't that far away. read more

Just moved in the neighborhood; tried this place a year ago and wasn't pleased but gave their breakfast a tried over the weekend and it was awesome. We had their quiche, southwestern eggs with hot sauce and omelette- the chef was trained in Mexico and did a wonderful job. Everything we had was delicious. Hope they keep it up!!! read more

This was our third time back and I was so disappointed. The food and drinks came out slowly. It was busy, but not packed. Something was off with the service. A pet peeve of mine - the server asked if we wanted soup or salad with the meal. The way she asks implies that it is part of the dinner and not $6 to $8 more. It should be asked "would you like to add soup or salad to your meal?" My husband had the shark special. The fish was good but had a pea mint sauce with it that was awful. My Dad ordered the bolognese. It was so spicy he couldn't eat it. My whitefish was excellent. My mom's halibut very good. Don't think we will be back. read more

Amazingly over priced for the area! Food is good, not outstanding, and decor is pretty basic. So many staff you almost don't know who does what, maybe that's why the prices are so high. Used to offer half salads with a protein for dinner but now you can only get a full salad, too much! No happy hour and drinks are around $10 to $12 each, WOW. Staff is friendly and accommodating, just hope managemenet can tighten up operating costs and bring prices down to a reasonable level. read more

Our first visit here was a pretty big letdown. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner and ordered salmon. Which was pretty raw. We sent it back and the second time was even WORSE. I took a friend there tonight from out of Town. We both ordered the evening special, scallops. The server said, they only had 4 scallops left, offering us 2 each and would replace the other 3 with shrimp. The scallops were very small (2) and 2 small (not medium) shrimp with the tails on. $34 bucks each, these 2 meals had a little of onion and spinach puree ... No bread, no side. The flavor was good; but 2 small shrimp and 2 small scallops, should be an appetizer for maybe $16 not $34! We left starving. read more

Have visited this new restaurant 3 times. Chef Cory is exceptional in his quality and presentation. The "locals" are excited about the beach-like ambiance inside and out, providing the resort like experience. However, the portions, even though healthy in scope, leave you wanting. A vegetable or other side should be included with the current pricing. read more
