I was surprised by the quality of their ramen noodles. Given recent ramen shops opening in the area, this is my #1 so far. Would def. come back. The noodles have good texture, cooked al-dente. The chasiu thickness nicely highlighted the char, the flavor, and brought a well balanced texture of the meat. The Shoyu broth was warm and comforting on a chi-beria weather day. A bit "greasy" for shoyu broth but I wonder if it was because of the pork chasiu. Nevertheless, I think this is still the best in the area.

Happy to have a new ramen place in the area! They have a wide range of ramen, sushi, rice bowls, and curry. I had the Hokkaido ramen and I thought it was delicious! Good noodle texture and broth flavor, and the Cha siu was delicious too. We can near the end of service during the weekday and it wasn't busy at all. Service was quick and attentive. Overall I think this is my number one choice for ramen in the area!

In a quiet unassuming store front in a strip mall sits this fantastic new restaurant. Apparently everyone has heard of this place since there was a steady stream of customers picking up their orders and dining in the restaurant. I ordered the tonkatsu shoyu ramen and it was delicious. The pork broth was very flavorful. The pork itself was tender with a little char on it. The noodles and veggies were amazing. My husband got the zuke don. The pieces of salmon and tuna were huge and had been marinated to add to the great flavor. Our server was very nice, even offering paper towels after there were none available in the washroom. Sanjo Ramen is a great addition to the area.

In an area that is getting increasingly saturated with Asian food options, Sanjo Ramen surprised me with how fast they've built a clientele. During my Wednesday night dinner, there was a steady stream of takeout orders and a surprising number of patrons dining inside the restaurant. This is in comparison to lots of other restaurants I've seen with slow weekday business. The generous portion sizes, comprehensive menu, reasonable prices, and delicious food all help to contribute to this. When you check out this spot from the outside, this looks like any other restaurant in the area - the inside looks simply decorated with pictures of the dishes on the wall and tables setup in a simple manner. The food really speaks for itself in many different ways -- as it's impressive how a smaller restaurant carries such a complete menu. The presentation of the food is nice, with a good portion of meat included in every dish. On my visit here I tried 3 different items and was happy with all of them. The zuke don came with a generous amount of fish, served in fairly large and thick slices. Compared to the amount of fish I'm used to getting in a roll or poke bowl, I was quite happy with what I got. The fish wasn't the fattiest, but it was still delicious. The katsu curry came with pork cutlets that are the thickest I've seen in the area. This came with plenty of rice and curry, making for a delicious comfort food dish. I would have liked if the pork had a bit more marination itself, but still enjoyed the dish quite a bit. The tonkotsu shoyu had tender chashu, with a nice light char. The pork broth was flavorful without feeling overly thick or salty, with lots of bean sprouds, wood ear mushrooms, and green onion to give it extra flavor. The temomi noodle is nice and slightly chewy with a good thickness and firmness. I wouldn't mind eating a whole bowl of these noodles with just broth and nothing else. Overall, this spot is already popular and will popular for years to come. The offer of a comprehensive Japanese menu with good flavors, good prices, and good presentation creates a great value for customers. The healthier preparation of the food also means this is a spot I can eat at more often without feeling like I'm eating too much fat or oil.

Stopped in on Saturday at opening and the place was half full by noon. Ordered the karaage, tonkatsu ramen and chicken curry. The karaage had the nice crisp of breading with the subtle chew of potato starch and the chicken was nice and moist. The chicken katsu was quite thick so I wish there was more breading for a bigger crunch but it was still great. The curry was nice and thick, though it could used a little stronger curry flavor for my tastes. The star here is the ramen. The noodles have a really nice chew to them and the broth has a great depth of flavor. The noodles were ever slightly thicker than most ramen places which gave you more of the chew you crave with noodles. Sanjo really hits the spot for great ramen. Service was also great as the servers were friendly and attentive.

We came here for some ramen and boy I was so surprised that it's pretty authentic! The broth is amazing, just like when I was Japan! I definitely would recommend Sanjo Ramen and would come back and try other dishes!

Quality, price, value comparable to other ramen places. Sanjo Ramen would be a place to frequent solely based on proximity. The service was good. Staff were friendly. The table lost a foot and was very wobbly and dangerously unstable. The waitress immediately got cardboard and propped the leg. Space and seating is limited-- it seemed to get busy quick around peak hours. We had arrived just before the dinner rush which reduced the amount of wait time. Ramen hit the spot for a cold Chicago wintery day!

I just recently came back from Tokyo and the food we had at Sanjo was as good as what we had in Tokyo. The place was PACKED and service was great and fast! Ambiance was chill and I was initially sad that the old restaurant they replaced went out of business but with this food, I'm ok they left and Sanjo came through!

Some of the best ramen I've had. Most delicious broth in my life. Our waitress was so nice and attentive thanks !

This review is for my first visit to the Wheeling Chicago Ramen location. I have been to their Des…read morePlaines location once. My family and I had been wanting to go to this location for a while and a recent weeknight presented a perfect opportunity to check out this establishment. Located in a small plaza in front of the Westin hotel, this Chicago Ramen is a nice little spot for grabbing a delicious bowl (or two) of ramen. Upon our arrival, we were seated promptly. Our friendly server provided the menus and shortly after was ready to take our order; however, we were not ready yet and took a bit longer to order. The menu was a condensed version of what I have seen at the Des Plaines location. There were six Ramen options, a handful of appetizers, extra toppings options, and beverage options. Also, there was a Ramen special menu and a Kids menu. A few minutes later, we placed our order of 1) Edamame, 1) Karage, 2) Shrimp Wonton Ramen, and 1) White Miso Ramen. The apps of Edamame and Karage came out soon and the ramen bowls followed shortly. The Karage were freshly cooked. The Karage were chunky, meaty and plump chicken nuggets. The meat was juicy and tender, and they were lightly battered. The flavor was decent and the texture was okay. I felt that a bit more frying would have helped it taste better. My Shrimp Wonton Ramen was the start dish for me. It was everything I wanted as far as the flavor of the broth and the texture of the noodles, shrimp, and wonton were concerned. The broth was hot and fresh. It had a nice savory flavor and I added some of the table side condiments for extra umami and spicy taste. The noodles were of the right texture where they had body and good slurp-a-bility factor without being soggy and sloppy. The White Miso Ramen was a nice creamy and rich broth that came loaded w/ cuts of pork that were tender. It was also delicious. I enjoyed my bowl of ramen a lot and managed to finish it instead of having leftovers. It hit the spot perfectly. We had a good experience and would go back. If you haven't been to this spot, then definitely check them out.

However, it has been our go-to place for ramen takeout for some time now, this review is focused on their takeout ramen. After about two years' time, we have narrowed our preferences to the Red Miso Ramen with Egg and the White Miso Ramen with Egg. Both ramen comes with a big piece of Cha-Shu (pork), bamboo shoot, and green onion. The Cha-Shu is very tender and flavorful, and the egg cooked just right. The ramen noodles are bouncy with the right texture. When it comes to broth, the White Miso Ramen is definitely a winner over the Red Miso. I found the broth of the Red Miso a little too thick and there is a taste that makes it less pleasant than the other. There is ground pork in the broth of the White Miso, which adds flavor and complexity to the texture. Portions used to be very big, and I used to have leftovers. However, recently portions have shrunk and I could finish the entire bowl of White Miso Ramen with Egg in one meal with no problems. It would not be enough to feed someone with a bigger appetite than me. They had made a couple of mistakes in our takeout orders a year ago. Since then, they have been accurate with the orders and timing has also improved. I am pleased to have Chicago Ramen in our neighbor town, and a bowl of tasty ramen is so close by. I just saw that they have added Shrimp Wonton Ramen (and two other items) to their menu recently. Next time I might give that a try.

Love the over easy egg fried egg that adds the yolk flavor when mixed together. This is the first time I've had mushrooms in bibimpop and it added some earthiness to it. Glad that we did because by the time that we left at 7 o'clock the entire place was packed. It is located in a strip mall with other restaurants and parking is very ample. So this should not be an issue. When you walk into the place, it is super modern in style and current music is blasting over the loudspeakers. The sushi bar prep area is also open invisible which I think is very nice. There's lots of different kinds of seating as well throughout the restaurant. The menu is very extensive as far as all the creative and special sushi rolls that they offer. So there is something here for everybody. As you can tell from the menu, it's probably not the most authentic sushi experience however it is probably a fun and creative one. The owners, I believe our Korean hence when we ordered the beef bento box, the beef that came out was definitely not beef teriyaki but rather the beef that is used for beef Bulgogi. The food overall was very good so no complaints there. In fact, the kitchen even brought out two small free tasting appetizers if you want to call them that for myself and my friend. They were also very delicious and creative. We were here celebrating a birthday and the automatic rolling waiter came out with the waiters and server singing, happy birthday along with birthday sword balloons, and you get a free ice cream with a candle. This was more than enough and very sufficient. The staff was very, very nice here. Our waitress was super friendly and funny as well. My only complaint here is that when we ordered the bento box, we learned that if you order white rice versus the standard fried rice that comes with it, there is a three dollar up charge. This makes absolutely no sense because rice is first cooked to be white then it is messed up to become fried rice so if anything there should've been a three dollar down charge. Come to this restaurant if you're in the area for sure and if you want some creative, fun sushi rolls definitely. This place is fairly priced and what I would consider modern American sushi.
