Tonkotsu Ramen
Von W.

Disclaimer: I ordered via Uber Eats. Food: Tonkotsu ramen: 6/10; I didn't finish it. The broth lacked depth and flavor, though the pork was decent and the noodles had a good texture. Combination fried rice: 8/10; Fluffy with a nice smoky flavor, but the chicken was underseasoned. A side of soy sauce would've really helped. Service: 8/10; While the delivery service wasn't directly affiliated with the restaurant, everything went smoothly. The delivery driver was friendly and arrived within the estimated time. Ambience: N/A

I don't venture up to the Woodlands much, but came here for lunch with my cousin. Parking is plentiful in the shared shopping center, but during lunchtime it may get crowded and you'll have to walk a bit. The restaurant itself has beautiful ambiance with dim lighting and colored string lights hanging from the ceiling. They were fairly busy for weekday lunchtime, but we were able to be seated in a booth immediately. They have a pretty expansive lunch menu during the week. Among these, are sushi roll combos, sushi/nigiri combos, bento boxes, and bowls. I went for the bento box so that I could try a little bit of everything. You choose your entree and it comes with a side of house salad or miso soup, steamed rice (brown or fried is an extra $1), 4 pieces of California roll, 4 pieces of chef's choice sushi, an egg roll, and a crab rangoon. Very comprehensive! For my bento box, I got the Tonkatsu, a panko-breaded pork cutlet, and opted for the house salad. The salad came out first and tasted fresh; I liked the creamy dressing that came with it. The katsu itself was a bit dry and bland, so I would suggest adding some seasoning and perhaps tenderizing it prior to cooking. Everything else was good though - the egg roll and crab rangoon were crunchy and the California roll was standard, however the chef's choice sushi tasted very fresh. Overall, the portion size was generous for $15 in this day & age. My cousin got her bento box with grilled shrimp and she thought it was very tasty. To end the meal, we got green tea ice cream for dessert. This was a good way to cleanse the palate - the ice cream had a good tea flavor and was not that sweet, which was perfect. Our server, Nicole, was super friendly. She checked on us throughout our stay and continuously refilled our waters, even after we had paid our bill. I recommend asking for her if you visit! Sapporo is a good spot for Japanese food in the Woodlands. I would love to try their izakaya, cocktails, and other offerings if I'm back in the area!

Hidden gem for lunch any day of the week! Nice patio tables.. just make sure the waiter knows you're outside. :) We enjoyed the teriyaki chicken bento box, which includes soup as a side. The portion is enough for lunch for adults or child. If you love Asian white rice- it's the best kind!

These guys deserve the 5 star rating for this salmon bento box. It had everything I wanted in a bento box for lunch time! Wait, would love shrimp tempura instead of the fried rangoon and spring roll but I'm satisfied with the overall quality, variety and value of food. The thorough care in packaging this to-go order was also apparent as it had all the details needed to enjoy the meal. The delivery was through Uber and it was friendly and fast. I did ask for extra ginger and light soy sauce on uber's end but that was the only part that got missed. The miso soup was still warm and had tofu with lots of wakame seaweed. The fried rice was perfect. The plate of sushi was heaven and nailed this review for them. Salmon was fresh!

This place is great! The food is great, the prices are better than the other sushi places in the woodlands and the service is always good We come here one or two times per month. Highly recommend!

I was in the neighborhood showing clients some houses and stopped by for lunch. Sushi was amazing! Super fresh and well prepared! The kids really enjoyed the cooked food as well. They ordered a teriyaki steak and udon noodles and both were delicious. Great place for the family or to impress clients. Definitely a must try if you're in the area!

Another great experience at Sapporo. This time I tried the beef teriyaki and it was really good. The steak was good and juice. My husband tried the salmon teriyaki and he really liked it. We ended our dinner with the tempura ice cream. It was good but not warm enough. Usually the outside is warm but this one was room temperature. Our waiter was amazing. He did a good job! He was very friendly and funny.

I showed our waitress and she said well of course there's a bone because they only use whole fresh eel. Bruh. I mean it's $12 for 3 pieces of tuna sashimi. I'd expect the food to be fresh at those prices. Then she quickly snatched it out of my hand and left. I did hear a soft sorry as she spun around. She went off to tend to other tables. But later in the meal I did hear her talking in the back with a man in Chinese about how a customer was complaining about a small bone in l their food. Guess she doesn't know I speak Chinese. At the end of the meal, I asked our waitress if she was the owner. She said no, quickly followed by a "the owner is not here today". Then I asked whether the owner was Chinese. Super duper long pause, followed by a soft spoken yes. Well, my favorite place in Memphis is also Chinese owned. I think many of the Japanese restaurants are. Ah well.

AYCE sushi sounded like a good deal initially. But overall the quality just wasn't there…read more I do like that you can sample a lot of their different dishes and appetizers. And that's probably the main advantage of selecting this option. We came in with only an hour to spare, with last call being at 2:30 pm (despite the buffet running to 3 pm). But within 45 min we were done. The dishes came out reasonably quick. It's a 2 hour limit if you come earlier and can manage that much food. There's no sashimi. And the slices of sashimi on top of the rice that compose the nigiri are pretty thin. The hand rolls came out soggy which means they were sitting for a while. And they got a ton of rice inside each one. Lots of sauce too especially in the eel cucumber hand roll which I didn't care for as a result. The dragon roll and Conroe roll were both ok. Nothing special in terms of specialty rolls. Shrimp wontons look like crab Rangoon and the crab Rangoon looks like jalapeño poppers. I asked the waitress about this and she said they get that comment a lot. Hmmm. Just beware. Also the skin on them as well as the fried calamari tasted tough which I think usually is attributable to old oil. Not a big fan of the beef tataki or peppercorn tuna appetizers. They had a little kick to them but the flavor was off and the tataki was kind of tough. We were told the Yellowtail jalapeño appetizer is the same as the peppercorn tuna just different fish. So we passed. The mango salmon appetizer is salmon wrapped around a mango slice. Sounds ok but because they drench it in some sauce, it tasted kinda ick. Our order of coconut shrimp never came but we weren't disappointed as nothing through the meal wowed us and it was an afterthought order to fill us up before leaving. Tempura Fried Oreo is your chance to get a Fried Oreo if you've never had one. They come in a set of 3 but you can ask for just 1 if you're full or not a big desert person. Staff was friendly. And the place was pretty busy even late into the buffet hour. I think this place is Chinese owned. Heard a lot of staff speaking it mandarin and Cantonese. And "chi" actually means eat in Chinese ... Clever.

Erm... THE GOOD:…read more-The hostess was polite. We made a reservation for 6pm, and our table was ready & available early when our group arrived around 5:40pm. -Outstanding service from our waiter ("Tommy"). He was kind, attentive, and so courteous. He most certainly had the patience of a Zen master handling our rowdy party of 10 with a few rambunctious children. There was not a single error in our orders... It's refreshing to find good service these days when dining out, and Tommy was honestly such a gem. THE BAD: Sad to say, but the food was overall pretty low tier. Every sushi roll was wrapped sloppily, with mismatched shapes & forms, nothing aesthetically pleasing, and everything disastrously falling apart with the slightest nudge. The menu was elaborate - with pages upon pages of fancy names of dishes and interesting descriptions of each item. Enticed by the menu (and realizing it was also Happy Hour, woohoo), we sampled several appetizers & rolls. Unfortunately, there was nothing impressive about the taste of any of them. In fact, it was all disappointing compared to similar items found elsewhere... It was all practically grocery store sushi rolls with a bedazzled name, and most of it looked like it was assembled by someone who had taken a single sushi-making class off the internet. That, or they just didn't care. THE UGLY: -Some other turn-offs were rickety & unstable tables, which we remedied by propping the bases with chopsticks... -And, there was also questionable black-green goo (mold?) on the ice of one of our drinks. We were so thirsty, we risked it for the biscuit (after our kind server brought us a new drink), but I would think twice about ordering ice in your drinks here. So, shoutout to the stellar waitstaff, especially good guy Tommy. But, "Try harder," for the kitchen crew. With the disappointing (and questionable) food quality we probably won't find ourselves dining here again.

I have been craving two choice delicacies lately, and both are present, albeit in single precious bites, on this menu: bluefin otoro and A5 Wagyu. I ordered a piece of Otoro nigiri, a set of 3 hand rolls, and an A5 gunkan. My server suggested ending my meal with the Wagyu, and it was an excellent and much appreciated tip. First, to start with the otoro was a luxurious beginning to my meal. How I've missed this distinctive treat! Following the nigir was a succession of three delicious and wonderfully savory hand rolls. And the pièce de résistance, the grand finale bite of A5 did not disappoint. It was rich, fatty, and incredibly flavorful. The hot tea paired nicely with, and I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch in this smallish but stylishly simple dining room, which thankfully still felt spacious due to its soaring ceiling. Service was stellar, as well. Pricey? $58 before tip for lunch felt like a splurge. But it was absolutely worth it. And I see a few return splurges in my future.
