The nice thing is that they had a happy hour special deal even on the weekends. Our server was really nice and provided great customer service. The ramen hit the spot. It was creamy and not too salty. The noodles had a good bite and really filling. The sushi rolls were great! WOW! What a great Japanese restaurant! This restaurant really exceeded all my expectations on all points including food, service, price and dining atmosphere! I was really pleased with the delicious and generous amount of food received when we ordered teriyaki chicken bento boxes for dinners (which I very highly would recommend getting)! Sapporo has a very wide variety of items to choose from on their menu but being that it was my first time here, I went with the chicken teriyaki bento box, which provided a sampling of their food items. For a little or less than $19 for this teriyaki bento box you get: choice of a starter salad or soup, a large portion of fried rice, teriyaki chicken, 4 California spring rolls, 2 tempura fried shrimp, large portion of tempura fried vegetables, and chef's choice of 4 pieces of sushi. The fried rice is delicious and not too salty, all of the sushi is fresh made and with really fresh ingredients, the teriyaki chicken is one small breast that's been grilled and laced with teriyaki sauce. All of the tempura was delicious and not greasy/oily. In regards to service, we were greeted by a friendly host and seated rather quickly. Our meal was served by a very courteous and attentive waitress. I loved coming here because they made us feel very welcome! Overall I would give this place three thumbs up (if I had another hand)! I've now eaten here three times. The first time I didn't think it was all that great, so I'm glad I gave it another chance. Maybe there is a new chef? The first time I ate there I ordered a steak bento box. I found both the steak and the tempura to be pretty mediocre. However, the next two times I shared tempura from my dad's bento box, and the third time I came here I ordered the steak yakiudon and it was absolutely delicious! Perfect sauce and chew to the noodles, as well. The second time I ate here I ordered the crab rangoon (or cheese wonton - I forget what they call it on the menu, same concept) and the crunch and flavor was perfect. I also ordered the caterpillar roll, which was great as well. They used a good amount of avocado and eel, instead of padding it with way too much rice to save money like some, uh, other places... I've also had their banana tempura for dessert as well as their mochi ice cream. For the mochi ice cream, they allow you to mix and match flavors (they are BIG dessert plates) which is cool. Their matcha ice cream hasn't got the ideal balance of sweetness and earthiness in my opinion (doesn't have much flavor at all) but their mango ice cream is delicious. Banana tempura was lovely, as well. Oh, and their plum wine! I'm not sure what brand they use but it is so, so good. It may be the best wine I've had, honestly. It is $10 a glass, though, which is pricey for wine (I don't know anything about the prices of plum wine specifically, so it may be more reasonable than it looks, i've no idea) The rice in the bento boxes is cooked well, the service is fast and friendly, overall very little to complain about other than that first mediocre meal. If you're looking for pretty good Japanese food in the woodlands I would recommend it. read more

This is the best sushi in Spring for me!! There are cheaper places, but this place is so worth it... Spicy Garlic Edamame could be just that, but they bring it to a new level. The flavor is great! Their sushi is delicious and fresh, but also beautiful. This is my top recommendation for sushi if you are anywhere near the Woodlands, and worth the drive if not. Whatever you do, though, don't miss the spicy garlic edamame, and the Crispy Rice Ball was amazing too. After that, the Yuzu Yellowtail with Jalapeno, Cilantro, and yuzu, is also a show stopper. Used to eat here regularly when it was Masa. My first visit since Sapporo took over, I was reluctant as third restaurant in a local chain. The interior has been upgraded with decorative chandeliers and booth lightning. Very dark ambiance. Kinda hard to see. But bright lights at sushi counter nice elegant contrast. Rearranged entry and seating to fit more people comfortably. Quality of wait staff a definite upgrade. Our group started with Apps of Spicy garlic Edamane (addictive and not overly spicy). Excellent with a beer or two before dinner. Definitely worth getting. Enough for 4-6 people to share. Tempura Shrimp and Veg. Freshly and perfectly fried in clean oil. Three shrimp, two broccoli florrets, 6 1/2 onion rings, 4 sweet potato slices and 4 zucchini slices. My only disappointment was the dipping sauce. Overly mild and pretty much flavorless. My other "criticism" is that technically not classic Tempura as dipped in Panko after tempura batter. Technique does add an extra crunch factor. Shrimp fried dumplings (5 or 6?) Again perfectly prepared. Very tasty filling. Like other two Apps, definitely worth ordering. Miso soup good in a standard way. Nothing unusual or special. But prepared well. Menu has a seaweed salad that sounds interesting for next visit. Many surrounding tables having very good looking cocktails but I can't comment on quality as did not partake. Our table of four shared a selection of sashimi, sushi and rolls. Toro, sea bass, yellowtail and salmon sashimi all pearly, dewy fresh and excellent. Sushi: A bit less rice to fish that I prefer but excellent except for snapper, which was a bit old and grey and had definitely seen better days. Personally I disliked ALL of the rolls, but my dining companions liked them. Too Americanized for my tastes. (Mayo, crab, avocado, shrimp tempura, eel sauce, yuck), Another complaint is the quality and of the pickled ginger. Too large of slices. Servred smashed/packed together. And some piece tough and inedible (not peeled properly?) The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, besides above minor miscues, was Sapporo is lacking the unusual authentic Japanese specials that Masa used to have. Back then on a Friday night, place had a healthy contingent of Japanese ex-pats. Now mostly suburban Americans which this restaurant obviously caters to. But given its in the middle of The Woodlands, five minutes from my house and I can get to it easily without the hassle of the crowds of The Waterway, or traffic of I-45 or Grand Parkway, I will DEFINITELY ADD this place to my rotation list of to-go places. A SOLID FOUR STARS. Agree it's a bit pricy, but except for the snapper, it's well worth it. read more

I make an effort only to commend people for great service but I can't stop thinking about the horrible meal we had last night at Sapporo so I have to vent here! We've always enjoyed the service and the food but last night were in the mood for something new and all ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box. The teriyaki chicken itself was absolutely disgusting...truly! The chicken was a very dried out, thin slice of chicken with something that resembled a bland, out of the bottle BBQ squeezed on top of it. Yuck! The Sushi and Tempura veggies were yummy, but the main entree was really really really bad. We had out of town guests with us and were so embarrassed! No one ate their chicken. A hidden gem! I was visiting from out of town and this was the closest sushi restaurant to where I was staying. OMG it's absolutely phenomenal. Definitely get the stuffed jalapeños, you won't be disappointed. I had the tuna tower, Tiger Eye roll and the Hot Papa roll. They were absolutely delicious! Having been to Sapporo in the back of The Woodlands, was very happy to see another location in Panther Creek Shopping Center. We've had the pleasure of visiting numerous times for both lunch and dinner, weekdays and weekends without anything to complain about. The food is always consistently great, fish is so fresh almost as if they pulled it out of the ocean when you order. Start off with an appetizer, they are all plentiful and excellent. Then wander into the Eel, Yellowtail, Fresh Salmon, Escolar and any other fish we have had has always been just amazing. The rolls are huge and beautiful. The Ramen is a huge bowl and yummy. Not a fan of Fried Rice HOWEVER, their version is not greasy at all which we found to be important to us. Chef Vincent and the entire sushi Chefs do incredible work while always being extremely friendly and happy. The entire staff of servers equally friendly and professional always clearing away plates and glasses as well as making sure everything is perfect yet not overpowering or lingering. The owner is very proud of his product his restaurant puts out and friendly to everyone who visits, does not matter if your first time in or 100th time in.
