4/5 Came here for quite a few times before I write this review! This is a nice Japanese bar in LIC area to grab a drink and satisfy your Japanese food cravings. Their tonkotsu ramen is nice and simple. The chashus are nicely charred. I wish the portion is slightly bigger and the soup could be slightly richer in Pork flavor. Their tuna tataki, takoyaki, gyoza, grilled squid are my favorite apps over here. And my favorite dish to order for the entree is chicken oyakodon, super flavorful sauce and the chickens are very tender. Must get! read more

Love this place, and the happy hour is great. $5 well drinks, beer/wine and selected cocktails. I haven't eaten here yet but the food looks good, and has a lunch set. Happy hour is from around mid-day-7pm. They also have a TV which shows sports. read more

A great dinner place in LIC. We came as a large group and the service was great. I tried the tuna crispy rice, stir-fry udon, and shrimp tempura udon. All of them were great! the udon had great texture and the tuna crispy rice had a good ratio of rice/tuna. The broth was also good and the tempura was light and fluffy. read more

I really enjoyed my night here because the food was EXTREMELY fresh and delicious ! I've ordered from them before and I loved the sushi... specifically the firecracker special roll and the blast roll. Tonight I had the yellowtail Serrano which was perfect! I dipped it in the soy sauce and it was really mouthwatering. I also tried the seaweed salad and the texture was perfect. It was very fresh and light. The poke bowl was what I had for my main course. Let me tell you - this was the freshest salmon and tuna I've had in a while ! It was perfect. The portion was good and the Japanese pickles were very tasty. They went well with the poke bowl. I can't forget the green tea mochi ( yes we got all three bites green tea flavor) ..... they were to die for ! ( at least for me because the outside was chewy and Inside was filled with green tea Ice cream. The waitress also gave us green tea to wash down the dessert at the end. Did a take-out during pandemic with sapps numerous times and it was such a life saving! Sushi quality is out of this world with affordable price in LIC. And now Sapps is open with outdoor dining with many choices of frozen margarita and frozen lychee martini. I came with my gf and got the chef sushi. It was incredible! the bluefin toro is melted in your palate. Hamachi Kama finished with miso glazed was amazing! Unfortunately, can't take that home because of the sauce. Overall, I totally recommend this place in LIC ! It's a must-try spot! ! read more

My friend and I could not make up our minds about what to order, we chose Flash Specialty Roll and it was really delicious. The team is incredibly friendly. I really valued that. Sapps was a happy surprise find near Jackson Park LIC. The food was pleasantly edible, prices were more or less justified, and service was overall okay. That being said, our party asked for more wasabi at one point, and we hadn't received it for 30 minutes until after our sushi order was basically all gone. Not sure what that was about, but definitely put a damper on the experience overall. If you live in the area, it's a decent restaurant to satisfy your asian cravings for the moment, but there are some pretty big names coming in - I'd hope they get their shit together, from tightening up the menu and ingredients to addressing some of the seeming logistical issues in their service. read more

I keep hearing that the sushi is okay here - but I'm actively telling my friends to not bother with Sapps after a lackluster experience with the Tonkotsu ramen. The broth is as soulless as it is opaque, and the noodles hardly liven the grind of finishing this bowl. It may have been unintentional but the two pieces of pork gyoza also came fried together, attached by strands of starch, like out of a plastic bag. Wouldn't recommend. No hosted or wait staff, just sat myself at sushi bar. Sushi bar did not look fresh, had flies buzzing around and the guy was cleaning w bleach behind the counter which was over powering. Spider roll was just ok. Shumai was eh and fishy tasting. Sapps is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Long Island City. I've come here multiple times and I always enjoy my meal. The fish is always so fresh and their speciality rolls are delicious! My favorite is the The Gantry roll, The Blast and the yellow tail with scallion roll. For appetizers, I love the spicy tuna on crispy rice and the yellow tail serrano. Their yakitori is always a huge hit especially the chicken skin and porkbelly with asparagus. My boyfriend really enjoys their chicken katsu, they give a huge portion and the chicken is always fried to perfection. Come here for happy hour because the drinks are strong and yummy! Their lunch specials are also a great deal on Monday-Friday, 3 rolls for $15. read more

Great sushi spot. The rolls are large and fresh. The service is excellent. They have a great happy hour. And it's one of the only spots to watch sports in the area. My favorite roll is the tuna loco by far. You also have to try the thunderdome it is awesome. It's basically tuna and salmon cubes wrapped in avocado it is very very good I highly recommend. I have been here a few times and will continue to go back as it has yet to disappoint. read more

Such a cool and hip Japanese place in LIC. Love the vibe and their music selections, but most of all, their food is great. I would usually go for their sushi, but decided to try out their salmon teriyaki. Salmon was fried and was crispy- delicious ! Definitely a good portion. This place has great lunch specials and is very close to my place of employment. It gets filled VERY quickly around lunch time so make sure you get there on the earlier side of lunch time to ensure seating. I enjoyed my chicken teriyaki lunch box, my biggest issue was the wait time. When we walked in we were practically the only ones in the entire restaurant but it just seemed like it took so long to get our food. People that came after us got their food before us. We found this sushi spot/bar by accident. We were walking by and people seemed to be enjoying themselves so we went in. Food was good. The rolls were fresh and I think everyone enjoyed their food. Maybe 2.5. With barely a B rating on Fakespot, I wonder how many of these 5 star reviews are legitimate. Sapps will survive sorrowfully because of scarce options in the area, not because of food quality. First, the menus are inconsistent. They do not have the same menu items. See photo: Japanese curry vs. Katsu curry. Also, club music is probably okay for all other clientele but it was a bit too loud for my party. Second, miso soup, the one thing any Americanized Japanese restaurant can't screw up on bc it's paste and mix was so salty that I was unable to finish it. Third, the Japanese curry or Katsu curry was watery, didn't come with any garnish or sides (really, not even carrots!?) and was a whopping $15 for dry meat plus rice. Fourth, sushi rolls all have spicy tuna or spicy salmon. You know what that means right, folks? Spicy anything with so called sushi means they can serve subpar fish and drench it in sauce/salty spices. And of course they can charge much more because anything "spicy" seems to have a surcharge. We ordered a bunch of rolls and the sushi rice was just regular rice. Fifth, we fell for the add-on and got the squid appetizer which had the consistency of rubber bands. The teriyaki sauce was also watered down. Sixth, the fish. Salmon teriyaki looked like a sad sap(ps). Again, two pieces of mixed greens, one cherry tomato, and so called seasoned rice was just rice with five black sesame seeds. Grilled yellowtail (hamachi kama) was so dry that it left a chalky aftertaste. They did not even give sauce but gave the standard Japanese garnish. Lastly, the drinks were nearly neighbor's Dutch Kills prices but no where near the quality. This is not worth coming back to and it's surprising to say that their sister Shi on Center Blvd. May actually be better. read more

Came here for dinner and had such yummy yummy food!!! We ordered the tonkatsu ramen, wagyu appetizer, chicken skewers, chefs special sushi, and beef don (forgot the Japanese term). Everything was so good!!! The ramen was flavorful and comes w a small cute box of spice! The meat was soft and juicy, egg was boiled and still had the poach. Wagyu appetizer was literally melt in ur mouth! Chefs special sushi--literally my favorite! Everything was so fresh and i never had fried shrimp head but it was so good!! Tasted like soft shell crab. We also had the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream! The choc cake was very hot but paired so well w the vanilla ice cream. Also love the fact that it was flourless, didnt feel heavy. I have been here four times now, and every time I walk out so pleased! The sushi is fresh, and the staff is very accommodating and nice! I really like the relaxed, urban atmosphere. No one is rushing you. I would also recommend both ramens on the menu, they're very big and not too salty at all! The Agedashi Tofu is my favorite appetizer. Overall, seems like the restaurant really cares about putting out good quality ingredients on their plates. Last week they had a grilled squid special, that was really savory and again, fresh.
