I can't believe that a restaurant that's been open for 20 years doesn't know that soy sauce isn't gluten free. They list so many things on their menu as gluten free (like the Num Tok) but these dishes are made with soy sauce (not tamari) which contains gluten! Tamari is gluten free soy sauce that is widely available - you can purchase it in bulk at Restaurant Depot. Upgrade your ingredients or redo the menu so that anything with soy sauce in it isn't listed as "gluten free". Their chili oil is also made with Knorr vegetable bouillon which contains gluten but doesn't list the allergy on the jar. This is also the chili oil they bring to the table. The tamarind candies they give away for free have gluten. This place is clueless. If you have gluten sensitivities/allergies or celiac disease avoid this place at all cost. read more

We were craving Thai food on a Sunday after a night out and did not want to drive too far, so we decided to try this place. As soon as we walked in, we noticed the smell in the restaurant was pretty unpleasant, but we were hungry and still decided to order. We got the pad see ew, fried rice, and panang curry. The pad see ew was honestly amazing. The noodles had a really nice chewy texture and the flavor was spot on just like how I like it on the streets of Bangkok. Unfortunately, the fried rice and panang curry were both really disappointing. They tasted bland, watery, and just did not meet expectations at all. Pretty solid thai food. Was exploring southwest austin when we stumbled upon this little place. Here is my review! Food: Khao Soi : 10/10. I think this was the dish that stood out the most. It was rich, had great flavors and everything in the soup went well together. Definitely a must try. The portion size was huge too. Tofu curry: 8/10. Was good. But there was no veggies other than basil in there! Flavor was on point though. Other noodle dish( may have been pad see ew): Good but also needed more veggies. Not sure why there were only brocoli stems instead of just brocoli. Overall, ambiance was great and service was very friendly. I suggest adding a few more veggies into your dishes though! read more

Ambiance is okay, nothing to write home about but clean. Now, the service is my biggest complaint. We asked for a side plate, and a glass of warm water. These are pretty easy to accommodate but we received none and overall service was lackluster. Food wise, ordered the khao soi and green curry. Green curry was average, I've had better and it lacked flavor. The khao soi was fantastic, a rich, spicy broth that made the dish. This dish itself is a 10/10....but we found a piece of foil in it. They didn't charge us once we told them about the foil but I am hesitant to come based on my overall experience. read more

I loved Sap's. This restaurant has great authentic flavor and it has a huge quantity of food. I went with a couple of friends and we ordered multiple dishes and were able to split them and still have enough to take home. But with how great the food was it was hard to put down. I've eaten at Sap's a couple times before now. It was always just okay. This time was the last time. My wife and I ordered the Pad Macaroni with tofu (mediocre to begin with). Halfway through, we noticed bits of pork mixed in. We're not vegetarian, so we could still eat it. But if we had a pork allergy, or avoided it for religious reasons, this could have been a real problem. Here's what really did it: when we asked the staff about it, they said, "Yeah, it looks like pork, sorry about that." That was it. No offer to remake the dish. No asking if we had allergies. No mention of even telling the kitchen. If you have food allergies or avoid certain meats, stay away from Sap's. Cross-contamination clearly isn't something they take seriously. read more

It's my second favorite Thai spot (after Super Thai!) my comfort order to go was: Saps Wings (5 pieces) priced at $8 and I went with the Waterfall dry rub seasoning with kaffir lime leaves & tangy tamarind. Meing Kum ($11)wraps which is essentially lettuce pieces with dried shrimp, peanuts, small lime pieces, coconut honey sauce (very spicy!!!) and onions. For my main dish I got the Panama curry ($14) with white rice, and chicken. I loved the wings! The seasoning is always tangy, fresh and the wings fried to perfection. The lettuce wraps are just okay. This was my first time trying these! They're expensive for what it is, it's surprising how it costs more than the wings! They also included onions in my order when I have an allergy to onions and peanuts were missing. I think the nuts would have added a nice crunch. I usually order their beef fried rice so trying the curry here was new for me as well. I enjoyed the spice but it was a bit bland. I wish it came with more veggies in it and a larger portion size. I am a bit of a creature of habit; every time I go to Regal Westgate cinema for an evening movie, I go to Sap's afterwards. And I usually get the same thing: fried tofu. I choose this appetizer because it's late and I don't want to eat too much before bed. But the fried tofu is just what I need and perfect for a late night snack. For only $7.50, you get six pieces of fried tofu, served with sweet & sour sauce and ground roasted peanuts. The sauce is so sweet and savory, good enough to eat on it's own. Service is somewhat fast, considering that the restaurant is always full and there is only one server per room. No complaints! Honestly way too overhyped. Got the Yum Nuer salad and Thai tea and the drink was good, but the salad was ok... Their chicken to be fair is nice and tender but the dishes are so plain! The reason why the food is so good is because of the Thai flavors.. not because they make good dishes. And not to mention, all the reviews about how it's not well maintained are RIGHT! Had flies swarming all over my food and my friend's plastic cup had LIPSTICK STAINS ON IT... Definitely not planning on coming back ever. I have been wanting to try Sap's for so long and I'm so glad I finally did! Me and my friend both loved the food here. I got the Sap's special panang beef curry and oh my gosh it was so good. The beef is slow cooked and you could definitely tell with how tender it was. The curry itself had so much flavor and depth. My friend got the chicken masman curry and she really enjoyed it as well. If you don't like coconut I would not recommend it because you could taste the coconut milk in the sauce. We also shared some crab rangoons and they were good as well. I wish they were either a little bit bigger or came with more than 4 though. The service here was great, our server was very nice and gave great recommendations and our food came out pretty fast. Service/ambiance: There's plenty of parking but the surrounding area is a bit sketchy, especially at night. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and our service was pretty quick. Food: I enjoyed the chicken pad kee mao and it was very reasonably priced at $13! My friend liked her Khao soi, but she said it was a bit salty. I've been coming here since high school and I'm so glad they've survived all the changes to the city. It's casual, has beautiful Thai umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. It's great seeing decor that is not overly IG / content focused. Sad to see the ratings go down, I'll say it's still a really great neighborhood spot. They remain fairly consistent in recipes, but it does feel like every time they print the menu it's just price increase. Also they got rid of the green dumplings, those were my sister and I's go to. Anywho, service was quick and friendly. We visited Sunday around 4pm. Tried the Brussel sprouts, perfectly crisp maybe a little too sweet for my taste. The balsamic glaze became overwhelming. Also ordered crab rangoons, not pictured, they were crispy and tiny. It came with 4, but felt like 2 ha. We shared the beef chicken pad see ew, well balanced flavors. We split it and had another portion to take home. we asked for some chili options. They gave us a tin dish with chili paste, sambal, and some homemade brined Thai chilis. For dessert we ordered the mango sticky rice. May-summer is mango season, the mango was at its peak! Again, well balanced - Not overly sweet. I enjoy Thai cuisine, and the first thing I order at any first-time Thai restaurant I visit is Pad Thai--it's my go-to benchmark for gauging the quality of their dishes. Unfortunately, when my order arrived, the noodles were very dry, as if they had been sitting out for a while. The flat noodles were cold and clumped together--I was literally able to pick up the whole clump of noodles with my chopsticks--and difficult to mix with the bean sprouts and crushed peanuts. The flavor was equally dry that lacked freshness and balance; in hindsight, I should have gone with the Tom Yum soup instead. Also, on a separate note, the restaurant's preset tipping percentages are misleading at best and dishonest at worst--since they're calculated after tax, a "20%" tip actually comes out closer to 23%. read more

This place hits the craving even though with my limited knowledge of Thai food - I'm on the fence about whether it is authentic or not. Their curry is warm, hearty and flavorful - fitting for a cold windy day. I have tried the Massaman, Penang and Green curry and all of them are quite tasty. The Pad See Ew is spicy (and I mean spppiiicyy because I have pretty good spice tolerance). Its very oily though but it kinda hits the spot if you are craving for a flavor of Thai spices but not really the authenticity. Service is simple and swift. I like this place. read more
