We were craving Thai food on a Sunday after a night out and did not want to drive too far, so we decided to try this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as we walked in, we noticed the smell in the restaurant was pretty unpleasant[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but we were hungry and still decided to order. We got the pad see ew, fried rice, and panang curry. The pad see ew was honestly amazing. The noodles had a really nice chewy texture and the flavor was spot on just like how I like it on the streets of Bangkok. Unfortunately, the fried rice and panang curry were both really disappointing. They tasted bland, watery, and just did not meet expectations at all. Between the inconsistent food and the smell inside the restaurant, I probably would not come back.

Street pad Thai - 1-5 customizable spice but 1 is spicy rather than mild. Really good.

It is impossible to find a plate of noodles THIS large with a price this reasonable. It was impressive in both size and flavor. That is all. Would return.

The menu here is overwhelmingly large. The food itself was pretty decent and flavorful. Pretty large portions too. Our server was nice.

I've been wanting to try sap's for a while now and hit it up on a Saturday evening. As expected, they were packed but we were seated immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is okay, nothing to write home about but clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now, the service is my biggest complaint. We asked for a side plate, and a glass of warm water. These are pretty easy to accommodate but we received none and overall service was lackluster. Food wise, ordered the khao soi and green curry. Green curry was average, I've had better and it lacked flavor. The khao soi was fantastic, a rich, spicy broth that made the dish. This dish itself is a 10/10....but we found a piece of foil in it. They didn't charge us once we told them about the foil but I am hesitant to come based on my overall experience.

Sap's Ver Fine Thai Cuisine is my go-to Thai restaurant for both dine in and take out. They have a wide variety of menu options including family favorites like pad see ew, crab fried rice, noodle soups and stir frys, alongside low-fat and gluten-free items. They offer authentic Thai dishes made with fresh herbs and quality ingredients. Usually I place my to-go order over the phone and it is usually ready before the pick-up time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is bright and fun with colorful umbrellas decorating the ceiling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Whether you get the food to-go or eat in the restaurant, you are in for a consistent experience with food and service. My go-to's: *F3 Pad Sea-Ew - Flat rice noodle or vermicelli rice noodle stir-fried with your choice of protein, Chinese broccoli and egg in special mixed soy sauce. I add chicken. *P6 Fried rice - Stir-fried rice with peas and carrot, with mix soy sauce, and side of cucumber. You can choose your protein and I have had it with chicken, beef, tofu and crab. All good choices. *P19 Rice Soup - Home-made rice soup in chicken broth with your choice of meat topped with green onion and cilantro. I add tofu. *D1 Sticky Rice with Mango My step-mom is from Thailand, so I know my Thai food and this place never disappoints. It is authentic Thai food and anything I have ordered here has been delicious, but you have to watch out for the spice because Thai food can be really hot!!!

Best Thai food in all of Texas. No contests. Always fresh always delicious. I have tried every dish and each one as yummy as the next. The owner is an austin treasure and could write a book on his incredible life and journey to get this amazing restaurant started. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Love this place, the food and the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I love Saps! It's my second favorite Thai spot (after Super Thai!) my comfort order to go was: Saps Wings (5 pieces) priced at $8 and I went with the Waterfall dry rub seasoning with kaffir lime leaves & tangy tamarind. Meing Kum ($11)wraps which is essentially lettuce pieces with dried shrimp, peanuts, small lime pieces, coconut honey sauce (very spicy!!!) and onions. For my main dish I got the Panama curry ($14) with white rice, and chicken. I loved the wings! The seasoning is always tangy, fresh and the wings fried to perfection. The lettuce wraps are just okay. This was my first time trying these! They're expensive for what it is, it's surprising how it costs more than the wings! They also included onions in my order when I have an allergy to onions and peanuts were missing. I think the nuts would have added a nice crunch. I usually order their beef fried rice so trying the curry here was new for me as well. I enjoyed the spice but it was a bit bland. I wish it came with more veggies in it and a larger portion size. All in all the curry was good but left me hungry. My favorite bites are: the wings, saps rolls, crab ragoons and beef fried rice! Can't go wrong with those.

Fav Thai spot in Austin! Authentic flavors and hits every time. Great for late night too

    Fried tofu appetizer

I am a bit of a creature of habit; every time I go to Regal Westgate cinema for an evening movie, I go to Sap's afterwards. And I usually get the same thing: fried tofu. I choose this appetizer because it's late and I don't want to eat too much before bed. But the fried tofu is just what I need and perfect for a late night snack. For only $7.50, you get six pieces of fried tofu, served with sweet & sour sauce and ground roasted peanuts. The sauce is so sweet and savory, good enough to eat on it's own. Service is somewhat fast, considering that the restaurant is always full and there is only one server per room. No complaints! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is lovely and not overdone; the ceiling is covered with colorful hanging umbrellas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I have been wanting to try Sap's for so long and I'm so glad I finally did! Me and my friend both loved the food here. I got the Sap's special panang beef curry and oh my gosh it was so good. The beef is slow cooked and you could definitely tell with how tender it was. The curry itself had so much flavor and depth. My friend got the chicken masman curry and she really enjoyed it as well. If you don't like coconut I would not recommend it because you could taste the coconut milk in the sauce. We also shared some crab rangoons and they were good as well. I wish they were either a little bit bigger or came with more than 4 though. The service here was great, our server was very nice and gave great recommendations and our food came out pretty fast. Looking forward to coming back!

Service/ambiance: There's plenty of parking but the surrounding area is a bit sketchy, especially at night. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and our service was pretty quick. Food: I enjoyed the chicken pad kee mao and it was very reasonably priced at $13! My friend liked her Khao soi, but she said it was a bit salty. I wouldn't order the fried calamari again, because the coating was a little bit off and seemed more like onion rings. Would definitely come again for a quick and inexpensive meal!

Food was great - it was open very late and despite that the ambiance was serviceable. Some trash in the parking lot though. One thing I would say is that some of the food was a bit salty - would visit again though.

Never going back. Kept asking if everything is ok!?! No, I kept saying and ran out of the place.

After landing in San Antonio yesterday to kick off my summer vacation, the very first thing I did…read moretoday was ask my friend to bring me back to this restaurant. The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.

Pad see ew with chicken - I liked their version and would probably get it again. Pad woon sen with pork - typically my favorite noodle dish and I think they did a good job. Garden roll - good but not as packed as others I've had, and at a higher price point. Pineapple fried rice with pork - I liked this but was a bit on the oily side. Tom kha soup - I thought this was very good and had a decent amount of chicken and mushrooms Overall I liked everything but some items I felt I had better versions of elsewhere. It's also on the pricier side. Still, if in central Austin I think it's a solid choice for Thai food.
