Great neighborhood family breakfast/lunch joint. They have all the morning basics and more there at a reasonable price.

Found this place on yelp. Wanted an alternative to the overhyped Bill's and this place delivered. The menu was simple and straightforward. (I agree with another poster about people complaining over a listed price.) The service was unspectacular but this is a simple cafe that get's busy between 10:30 to 12. It's really hard to find good American style breakfast and brunch in Cali if you come from another part of the country. This place was solid and didn't try too hard to be something it's not. We got there before the pre weekend rush and were promptly seated. One of my favorite things to order for breakfast is corned beef hash with over easy eggs. Many breakfast places disappoint, but Sara's didn't. The corned beef hash was flavorful without being too salty. I have only ate here once. Sara's Kitchen is within walking distance of my Aunt & Uncle's house in Santa Clara. My daughter and I went out to California for a visit and as we driving back to my uncle's house I made a mental note to try and visit at least once before I left. My favorite meal of the day is breakfast. While I am no longer eating big breakfasts on a daily basis I still like to go to a place like Sara's and do order up the high carb and protein specials (eggs, pancakes, bacon). When I am on vacation I feel I owe it too myself to splurge. I found the staff and the patrons to be very friendly. Of course Santa Clara is a small city and my Aunt and Uncle have lived there for many years so they new all of the staff and most of the patrons. In fact it felt like a scene from Cheers. I came here this past weekend with some friends who were visiting from out of town, expressly because of the great Yelp reviews. Turns out the reviews were trustworthy, because the food here was awesome! We DID have to wait 45-50 minutes before getting a table, though, and we were hungry to begin with when we got there, so that was the one damper on the afternoon. (We came for Sunday brunch, so that was probably why the line was so long. I imagine coming earlier in the morning or on another day would be better.) The place looks like it hasn't changed since it was first opened (there are photos on each tabletop as part of the decorations, of the old days when it was running). It's rather small, but I think it made it cozy. The servers were all really attentive and nice (especially the woman taking our orders-- calling each of us "hun" and making comments on our orders here and there). I think they could've been more realistic with the wait time (they told us initially 30 minutes...and the wait was nearly double that), but that's all. My friends all ordered different things from the menu (from pancake stacks to chicken fried steak to Eggs Benedict) and they were all extremely delicious and high quality, so I don't think you could go wrong with whatever you ordered. read more

I gave 2 star rating based on over the phone experience. I've been here to this place many times and have always been satisfied. With the food and how fast the service was. I tried ordering out 1 day and the lady who answered the phone was so rude and Unprofessional. She complained because I had a big order and "she was busy" she also said "Jesus christ!" to me over the phone because she had to write my order down. I recall being a bit skeptic about coming here due to all the other reviews, but overall I had a good experience here. Solid classic breakfast diner style food. I really liked that fruit didn't seem to cost extra in place of hash browns. The scramble was pretty big, I barely finished it. The place wasn't too busy when I went, but it did fill up quick on a Sunday. I was seated outside which was perfect with the weather that weekend. Sara's is one of the best breakfast places I have every frequented. My wife and I have been going here for over 12 years. After awhile Sara, Manny, and Maria will recognize you and always have a warm welcome for you. For breakfast, I always get the linguica omelet with a side of linguica. I have been doing the low carb thing for over 2 and a half years and Sara's always been very accommodating. For lunch or dinner, I highly recommend the pepperoncini cheesestalk with double meat over salad, although, for carb lovers, the cheesesteak bread is very good. read more

Sara's kitchen is a great breakfast spot. We usually go to Bill's Cafe, but of course they were busy. We decided to try something new! To start the service was prompt and friendly. The Belgian waffle with blueberries was great. They were generous with the blueberries and they were very fresh. To drink, I had chocolate milk which I was very happy with! It comes with a mountain of whipped cream. The overall atmosphere was relaxed. There was a mixture of college students and community members. The have indoor and outdoor seating- outdoor seating is dog friendly. I would come back for waffles and chocolate milk again! read more

Long time favorite place for breakfast. On weekends, there's almost always a line waiting for tables. What's nice is they're smart enough not to seat everyone at every available table. When I went out with my friend this place was number 2 on the docket and we ended up going here because place number 1 was too busy. Thankfully, they do have some outside seating--and it was a beautiful sunny day in San Jose (in February??)--so we sat outside. My friend recommended the chicken fried steak with eggs (which I usually love), but I have to say it was only okay. Nothing special. For ten dollars, I regret not trying the multitude of linguica dishes. Also, they didn't have fresh-squeezed orange juice...it was Odawalla. I prefer the fresh-squeezed variety. Service was a little slow because it was so busy; we went for breakfast on a Saturday. All of our food arrived without error and it was okay...I ate everything on my plate. The coolest part of Sara's Kitchen might have been when we were paying our bill and we got to see how busy & active the kitchen was. It was so cool to watch all the members working together: the bussers, the chefs, the waiters, and to see how harmonious this all was. The owner was nice, but not that nice. He talked to us when it was convenient for him, but hardly said goodbye (even though I said it to him) when we were leaving. There is no better place to get a "comfort" breakfast in Santa Clara. Introduce yourself and learn people's names; you'll be treated like family in no time. If you come on a weekend, you'll be happiest if you come between 7 and 8:30 - before the Santa Clara students wake up and take all the seating. :) If you haven't tried this place, you owe it to yourself to experience it at least once! I really like this place, I ordered soup and salad. $7. Really good bowl of soup, beef vegetable, there were many different veggies in the soup broth, real tasty. Perfect hangover food. Haven't seen that many hungover college students since... well college. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't stay open late... because it would also be great 2 am food. I had a ham and cheese omlet, which doesn't sound all that exciting but it really hit the spot. They could stand to have a better selection of hot sauce. Sara's Kitchen sits pretty in a quiet corner of the street, easy to spot as you drive by. It has a homely and warm feeling to it. The patio seating is what we opted for, for our Saturday brunch. The Hash Benedict was absolutely delicious. The Hollandaise sauce was done to perfection. We got it with a side of hash browns. The Cheese Chicken Steak came with the sides of pancakes and scrambled egg. While all the other components of the dish were good, the Chicken Steak was a bit too salty for us. The Vanilla Milkshake was yummy and thick and creamy. The staff is very friendly and service is super prompt. The menu is pretty extensive and prices are reasonable. The only thing that put us off was Sara, the owner's attitude. As the owner she lacked that warmth and definitely the smile she should be using to greet customers. I got a chance to try Sara's for the first time on Sunday for breakfast and what a great place. I tried the Linguica and Eggs sandwich, with a regular order of curly fries. The sandwich is roughly 7 or 8 inches long consisting of a Linguica cut in half length wise, melted cheese, and around 1-2 scrambled eggs, in a french roll. The curly fries were average, but you get a platter full. Service is friendly, and you get little pitchers of water and Iced tea (if you ordered one) so no chasing anyone down for refills. read more

Went on a very busy Sunday morning with two friends. Waitress was super busy and after telling us twice she would be right back she took our order. Food was moving quickly out of the kitchen. We ordered the Bacon avocado Benedict and a basic eggs and pancakes combo. Our Benedict came out cold. Like pre-made and not completely reheated cold. The other meal was fine. It's a shame the Benedict was otherwise awesome and I'm sure it would rock...if it is served hot. Invest in some heat lamps or a better system. Not going back. I too find it funny by seeing so many negative reviews. I have ate there about two to three times. And the two to three times that I have been there, I have had their cheesesteaks. Their cheesesteaks are pretty good. I agree with Kevin L. that the wait staff and the owners are good, particularly the old lady, who I believe is Sara herself. This place feels like you're at home. The customer service is awesome because they check on you repeatedly and you can tell they genuinely care. I've been here twice and have had a great experience both times. Their cheesesteaks are pretty good. I love the corned beef hash! I also love their french toast and Belgian waffles with fresh fruits! There's always a line like what everyone wrote, people don't line up for a crappy place! They line up for good food and great service. Highly recommend. Plus you can bring your pup and eat outside! I love to support our local family businesses and this is one of them. I've been coming to Sara's Kitchen with my family for years now and we love this place. Maria is their best server, she's been there forever and knows her stuff (btw, she always serves on the right side of the restaurant when you walk in the door). Food is awesome and service is quick. There's always a ton of people there on Sunday mornings but they usually get us in pretty fast. I usually order the Garden omelette or one of their cheesesteak sandwiches. They're famously known for their cheesesteak sandwiches, and they are awesome! My favorite is the mushroom. Their parking lot is super small but there's always plenty of street parking available. Prices are pretty fair, however we just went there this morning and their prices had gone up since the last time we visited earlier this year. read more

Omg wow. Sara's Kitchen had originally been the place to go when Bill's was packed and had a 45 min wait, and I was about to choke a bitch if I didn't get my breakfast on ASAP. But after my most recent visit, my sentiments have definitely changed. I forgot what I got the first time but when my eyes laid upon the masterpiece that is the Turkey Scramble (#45), I knew shit was about to be poppin off. I mean it's got everything you want and need, all in one place. Hella veggies, avocado, and some (lean) meat for those of u on a health kick. Also - home fries. Always go with home fries. I mean tbh I look at these potatoes and I'm honestly kinda like wtf is this MESS cuz it looks a lil wack haha but it's bomb af don't be deceived. Really nothing to brag about, but nothing to trash on either. Really good service, nice music playing, food was made just right. Portions aren't incredibly hard to finish, yet it gets the job done. Really cozy diner, perfect for breakfast and brunch. I ordered #51: "The Hangover" Fun name, although I didn't have a hangover, just wanted the extra meat :D - 2 sausage patties, 2 slices of bacon, 2 eggs, pancakes, and hashbrowns...yup a lot of food. This place has been around a long time, and when you go there, it's easy to see why. It appears to be a family-run establishment, and that shows through in its coziness. I have been very happy with any breakfast item I've ordered here. I don't really like peppers, but if you do, order the red potatoes with onions and peppers instead of hash browns. For lunch I have tried the BLT (skip it), the fish and chips (thumbs down on the fish, big thumbs up on the chips), the grilled cheese, a mushroom and Swiss burger, and a regular cheesesteak (yum on all three). In short, breakfast is a great bet here (with good coffee!). Lunch items can be hit or miss, but when they're hits, they're really hits. read more
