After several visits here, for some reason I keep forgetting to write a review. Everytime, without fail, immediately upon entering, I start browsing all the pictures on the walls of famous stars & wondering what Sardis must have been like many moons ago. I am sure the place was packed, reservations only for the biggest & brightest stars. Sitting at the bar feels iconic and a bit surreal. Exciting, people watching, relaxing and gain perspective of a bygone era. I have only had cocktails at Sardies, but is a must stop location, with my every visit to NYC. The perfect martini, Manhattan, sidecar, old fashion or whatever your desire is, the mixologist s are on point. A lovely, nostalgic ambiance, attentive & friendly service, along with fabulous people watching. Who could possibly want more from an iconic NYC institution? What's a girl to do? Good place to go to say you have been there. For the pricing though the food was slightly above average. Our table had the spinach ravioli, sea bass and lump crab sandwich. The lump crab did not perform well. The bun was too big and the lump crab was not flavorful. The sea bass and ravioli were excellent. Service was prompt. The food and service are good, but Sardi's is VERY overpriced for what you get. Worth going there for the experience and history (which is apparently what you're paying for), it's not a place I would frequent. read more

This review is just about the little bar area right off the front entrance. Great little spot for a drink before the theater. The bartender pours a very generous drink to go with the cheese / crackers, pretzels and peanuts on the bar. Cozy spot to have a pop before a show. read more

Iconic location and great to eat at before a Broadway show for that reason. Really good service, including nice complimentary bread and butter, and fun to look at all the caricatures of famous faces. The food was okay, but not great. The cheese plate appetizer was good and the frozen dessert cake was really good, but the spinach cannelloni and chicken curry dinner both missed. Overall, a worthy visit to experience once, but the food does not warrant a second trip. read more

Legendary NY spot. We only ate dessert here but it was fabulous. The only downside was that once our server discovered we were only ordering dessert, she disappeared and was as friendly as a cod. The rest of the staff was great though. read more

I thought this was a cool experience and the wait staff was very attentive. The food wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was pretty good. We enjoyed the jumbo crab cake for an appetizer and it was very good. We both ordered our meal from the daily special menu and it was quite good although I was not a fan of one of the sides. I am a longtime fan of Sardi's. The room is a Broadway institution. On my last visit it was a pre-show birthday dinner. Mr. Sardi was at the door and greeted me with his sense of humor. My martinis were perfect. I had an endive salad that was wonderful. I always order the steak tartare and it was delicious as always. My husband ordered scallops and while fresh and cooked perfectly, the dish was nothing special. Dessert is always a baked Alaska which never disappoints. Our server was attentive and approachable. A big bonus was that the table next to ours was populated with a party of Broadway producers and we had a lovely chat. How's that for a Broadway experience! read more

Even if Broadway means nothing to you, at Sardi's, you'll still find a charming, traditional establishment with tasty continental fare. The cannelloni is exceptional, and so are the pork chops. If you need to dine and dash, this place has more experience than most getting folks fed fast to make their shows. If you're a Broadway fan, you'll love its trademark caricatures. I can only imagine how many conversations took place here that made Broadway history. If you want to see Broadway actors, don't come during showtimes. They visit when they're NOT working. If you're looking for stars, you'll see them, too. I saw Brooke Shields and Antonio Banderas the night I went. But you have to know who they are. Sardi's will always be one of my favorite New York places. It's one of a kind. And don't forget dessert, but you'd better work out first to burn off the calories. read more

I'm rather astonished at how high the ratings are for this restaurant. I went here with my mother and father, both of whom had been to Sardi's when they were younger (back in its glory days). Although I can't speak to what it was like then (I'm told it was fantastic), it really was quite disappointing now. The entrees we ordered bordered on the small side. I ordered a shrimp salad and it was basically tasteless. What really pulls this restaurant down to the 2 star notch for me is how expensive these entrees were. Sadness. read more

This visit was my second time here..I came here last weekend with my boyfriend and we really had a good time. I had a sirloin steaks and he had a shrimp entrée. Now the first time I came here I absolutely loved!!! my steak idk what happened maybe I ordered a different one this time. The service was excellent!!...our server was very friendly and we were seated right away(we made reservations). Now the shrimp that my boyfriend had was the best shrimp in our lives!!!!..we even ordered it again lol..for my appetizer I had a crab cake which I thought was delicious!!...I would deff recommend this place. This restaurant had great service, but it was old and the people dining were old. There were caricatures on the wall of famous people, and I didn't recognize any of them. The lump crab cakes are awesome, but the pork entree was not good. It tasted charred. This place is also very expensive! I will not return if I make another trip to NYC. read more

The food was decent and the service very good. The real draw here, however, is the ambience. Everyone who is a Broadway freak is familiar with Sardi's and the caricatures for which it is famous. It made for a very fun lunch just before a show and I think it is probably a must do for the true old school Broadway fanatic. Like a real old Broadway performer, a bit of the bloom is off the rose here in terms of décor and menu, but it is still glamorous and fun and worth the price - at least for lunch. We got two pasta dishes and a glass of vino, all of which were good but not great - but you can't replace that authentic New York feel you get in Sardi's. Worth it and glad we have this as part of our memory book. read more

Yes, Sardi's is a tourist spot. But, just because a restaurant is a tourist trap, doesn't mean it has to be bad. There are plenty of tourist traps which have excellent food. Ten years ago when Jesus Christ Superstar was revived, I had a meal at Sardi's and it was excellent. This time, it was awful and plain embarrassing. A friend was passing through NYC for the night, she bought herself a ticket to Billy Elliot and I told her I'd treat her to Sardi's as a customary NYC pre-theater dinner experience. Our meals (I ordered sausage cannoli to start an sirloin rare with crushed horseradish yukon potatoes and asparagus as the entree, while my friend ordered salad with beets and goat cheese to start and spinach ravioli as her main) were just G-d awful. The sausage cannoli tasted like it came out of a Hormel can. While the beef, well, I've had better quality from the Key Food discount bin, and the mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box, with no horseradish that I could detect. My friend's salad and main dish were equally unimpressive. It was like going back in time to junior college when we all looked forward to "Steak Night Every First Saturday". Unlike Sardi's however, at least the college food was served hot and not a mix of tepid-warm and cool. The interior is dark, dirty and depressing. Everything from the carpet, to the vinyl seats, to the red and black walls is pretty dreary. Sardi's is in need of serious rehab, from the kitchen staff to the dining room decor. I could care less which celebrity actor or politician eats there. When you pay an average of $60 a meal per-person, it's not to see the caricatures on the wall. Here's my suggestion if you're looking to experience something out of the ordinary for a pre or post theater dinner, dine at the McDonald's in Times Square. Plenty of nice lights on the exterior, lots of hand painted murals inside and it's one of the largest and prettiest McD's in the world, according to the Travel Channel. The food is the same if not better quality, you spend a lot less and everything is served hot. read more

Terrible service. Told staff we had tickets to a show and arrived over and hour and a half prior to allow plenty of time. Food arrived after an hour despite asking twice where it was. Ordered a medium well done burger which arrived rare, but there was no time to ask for it to be cooked. Salad arrived with no dressing. Had to eat in 5 minutes and left most food as we were late for show. Bad service and mediocre food. read more

Great bread with dinner. If it wasn't for the bread I would not have left full as my budget for the meal was $15. The atmosphere was stuffy but the location was ideal as several shows are right across the street. Only stopped in for a drink at the bar upstairs. Unfortunately I have to say that the bar service was lacking. There was a decent amount of people in the bar area with only one bartender...okay no biggie. But this bartender seemed to have only one speed and was very inattentive at covering the length of the bar basically working from only one specific end. I will give him that the drink was delicious though. read more

Classy iconic ambience and attentive service for lackluster food.

We went to Sardi's because it was cold out and we could not get a table at Carmine's. At first the restaurant seemed nice, it was very busy so we thought how bad could it be? my wife order the spaghetti with tomato sauce and i went for the grilled chicken club sandwich. The pasta dish was a little bland but did have a hint of washing detergent?! My club sandwich was a disaster, the chicken was not grilled, it was roasted and it was still very very cold. There was no bacon either, so I ended up with a very untasteful chicken salad sandwich.....The waitress was unattentive as well, she took our order but never materialized until the time to pay the check. No one checked on how we were doing through the meal or asked if we wanted more drinks. I accept that the restaurant was busy but we were sat right next to the waiters station so there is no excuse. Even when we complained the manager did not come over and ask what the problem was. The meal in the end was comped because we were so disatisfied with the service and quality of the food. A terrible dining experience in my opinion. read more

Go to Carmine's instead!!! I was so disappointed and maybe because I was looking forward to have dinner in this iconic restaurant. I went with a friend for a 6pm dinner before a show. The place was not crowded. Waiters were not really welcoming or smiling. We ordered a "home made mozzarella" which was less than average with tasteless cold tomatoes, I had to ask for some olive oil to give a little something. My friend asked for the cannelloni and they were soaked in sauce... I had the French lentils stew and the mix with cauliflower, polenta and lentils was not a good idea. It was just a bad dinner but nothing else was really inspiring in the menu for vegetarian. What a waste...Oh and they are serving some "supposed" champagne but when I taste I really felt the green so I didn't order it... read more

I dined on Nov. 11. We were 3 adults & 6 children (7 to 17). It was a great experience. Our waiter was one of the best & nicest I n Have ever met. Went to Sardi's before a 7:00 show and even though it's touristy, I'm glad we went as it's such an iconic restaurant. The food was good as was the service. They really know how to time your meal so you'll be out in time for your show. The only thing I didn't really like was they served my wine in a little old fashioned wine glass. read more

Sardi's was my dream for 5 years and finally I went there for my birthday. First when we sat down, they told us that they had free tickets for a Broadway show and we could go. I told I was really lucky because it was also my birthday. After the show, we got back for dinner which was delicious and the staff was so lovely. At the end of the night, they brought me an American cheesecake with a candle on it and celebrated my birthday. I had the best birthday ever. Sardi's is my favorite spot now in NYC. Sardi's is yummy and a fun activity to do once if you want to experience something unique to New York. But as far as restaurant quality, it falls short. I had the salmon teriyaki over sweet potatoes. The salmon was cooked nicely, but the veggies were kinda bland and the portion was vulgarly large. Flavors were really basic, nothing I hadn't tasted before. For the steep price, the food falls short. We had an extra person join our party mid dinner and one of the people in the staff gave me attitude about asking for another chair. Hate getting sassy looks and or comments from waiters- so exhausting tbh. It was fun to be at Sardi's and see all the famous portraits, but don't come here for the actual restaurant part of it. read more

Currently sitting in this restaurant now. We had a party of 16 people. It took 20 minutes for them to come over and take our drink order. When we got our food, 12 of the 16 were not happy. This food is average at best. Food quality was very low. 2 people in our group ripped their clothes on a nail from the menu box. Meatballs were not good at all. Just so bad. Scallops were average and the risotto was watery with frozen veggies in it. 2 people returned their meals and to top off the dissatisfaction, they would break our bill amongst the grouped parties. That's not conducive for today when people don't have cash. Just to give you an idea of how ridiculous this place is, they charge you $10 for a glass of OJ! I will NEVER come to this place again. Not worth the price and walked out hungry. Save yourself the money and go to any other place than this. read more

Sardis is a New York classic. But I'd like to especially commend the bartender Joe. At the start of an evening, he and I had a small quibble over a drink order I placed at the bar. In retrospect, it's hard to say who was in the right and who was in the wrong. But it didn't really matter: later that evening, just to clear the air, he appeared by my side with a new drink on the house. I thought it was extremely gentlemanly of him and I won't forget it. read more

Food was good, worth the price considering the location. I would have loved to try the desert, but after waiting over a half hour to get our plates cleared and with no refills we where lucky to leave an hour and a half after ordering two club sandwiches. Shame though, my father took me here as a kid and I loved it wish I could have relived the memory. read more
