The location is good but busy, the food is not bad but the service could be more friendlier. I came a little bit after lunch time and there was no one in line. The worker came over, did not greet me and just stood there. He had a face like he didn't want to be there. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with fried rice and veggies. He gave me my receipt and didn't say thank you. Proceeded to get the orders ready. I waited in the seating area and one section seemed a bit dirty. The food did not take long so I left and when I got home the portion was fine and food tasted good. When the worker gave me the food, he didn't ask if I needed anything nor did he say thank you. So disappointed! We stopped by today to try this (new to us) place. Food was terrible. Rice was not Japanese, or if it was, no Japanese person would ever own it! The bento bowls here are decent. Considering the price a good value. I like the chicken and seafood used. It's not going to win fancy awards, but in the time of inflation it works. Came here today because Blue ocean and Yamachen were closed and we had a sushi craving at 3pm, enter Sarku. We ordered the salmon avocado roll and the spicy tuna with free cucumber added. The service was wonderful and willing to modify our rolls and provide plenty of extra ginger. Worst sushi I ever had in my life. Seems sushi from here is a mistake from desperation. My recommendation is to stick with the meats and seafood/bento box. Cool to note as a soda fountain option they had vitamin water xxx acai-blueberry flavorful which I haven't seen before. Love me some vitamin water and the price for that keeps going up so nice drink option for around $2. Would I ever come back? hell no! but it was cool to have the option for 3pm sushi. read more

After window shopping on Labor Day, the kiddies and sister worked up a sweat and hunger and decided to stop into Sarku Japan for lunch. Located within a shopping center, parking was easy enough to find. As we stood in line, the sister registered at the counter for their (unwanted) text advertisements and received 6 pieces of Gyoza (fair deal I suppose). She ordered two Bento Boxes and subbed the the noodles for the rice. The food came out rather quickly but finding a clean table took a bit longer... I'll give credit to the person that was wiping down the tables but the problem was the crumbs that left the table and went straight to the floor... I dined on noodles and salad and was happy to find a Dumpling that was full of cabbage.. as greasy as I'd expect it to be, the food managed to kill the hunger pains but unfortunately with this new vegan diet created gas pains a few hours later.... the floor under the drink machine could have definitely used a cup or two of bleach and the twin said the Bathroom was Grade A D.I.S.G.U.S.T.I.N.G... supposedly someone backed it up and left a surprise for unsuspecting patrons.. she promptly informed the guy at the front counter about the problem who said.. "Yeah it flushes every 5 minutes..." (huh) just lazy and nasty and as fast as that grease hits the bowels the one thing that should be working is the bathroom ... I know this is a fast food chain..... Maybe I'm spoiled with bento boxes from Sushi Prince($11), but the deluxe bento boxes ($10) here were definitely...MEH... We both ordered the teriyaki beef and were surprised at the thin slices of bland meat. I did notice that most people ordered chicken teriyaki so maybe that selection was better. I opted for the deluxe box which was an additional $2, and I got shrimp and veggie tempura. I honestly can't say that I have tasted anything worse than this tempura. The batter seemed soggy and old. I'm not sure how to rate sarku other then it was medicore for Japanese Togo food. Have I had better bento boxes for the same price yes indeed. My mother and I shared a deluxe bento box with chicken teriyaki. Now I like to avoid chicken teriyaki partially because some places make it too sweet and in this case it was just that a tadbit too much sauce for me. The chicken pieces were a bit sloppily chopped but eh...it's chicken.The choices for side were white rice,noodles or brown rice. I chose the brown rice with it for an extra .50 wow it cost to be healthy. I think I was expecting too much from a Togo place for a bento. I mean there could've been a bit more salad and a side of Miso soup would've been nice for $9.19 or even a dumpling. It came with 2 soggy shrimp tempura, and a few veggie tempura which were not as crispy as I would like. The California rolls weren't too bad there was a decent amount of imitation crab in the roll. But overall kind of a mediocre bento. I also ordered the green dragon roll which was eel avocado and cucumbers. The portion of food I received was pathetic. They even skimped on the rice. The rice! The cheapest part of the meal. I am accustomed to the "double" meat that Sarku is known for inside of malls. This place does the Sarku brand injustice; the food is greasy and portions are small. The service is below par for a QSR. For some reason, the stand-alone Sarku establishments have always been disappointing compared to the locations inside of the malls. The food seems to be made to-order and can take a bit of time, which is fine because I love eating fresh foods. But when I have to wait thirty minutes (not counting the wait time from standing in line...) during a Monday lunch break, I think it's a bit ridiculous. No apologies or asking for some leniency (maybe there was a situation that customers didn't know about that was slowing down the process..)--nada. And if there are going to take THIS long to cook the meat, you would expect that it was done right. Unfortunately, I had to recook the meat in the microwave because it wasn't thoroughly cooked. I know that Sarku is a chain, but I do enjoy going to their Teriyaki and Sushi Express locations. I always get the Deluxe Bento, which comes with a garden salad with dressing, 4 pieces of California Roll, Chicken Teriyaki with white rice, and two tempura shrimp and tempura vegetables (like sweet potatoes and broccoli). I always ask the chicken to be cooked extra well-done, and sometimes they get it, and sometimes not so much. Either way, the teriyaki is pretty good with the rice, and you can also add some sriracha sauce to give a kick. Usually, the tempura is right out of the fryer so it's fresh, and the California rolls, if they're busy, are freshly hand-made, too; sometimes, it can be a little stale and the tempura can be kind of cold. My husband always gets the Chicken Teriyaki with the double meat, and he even enjoys his meal. You can find Sarku in malls, but I like getting the bento boxes. This Fairfax location also has yum-yum sauce, so it usually comes with 1 container of it when you order (they charge you more if you ask for more). I was in the area and thought I would walk past this place to see if it would be any good. I saw this big ad for chicken teriyaki plate with rice and veggies for only $5.79. I had to go in and look further. Once I was inside, I figured, why not? I'll give it a try. You order at the register and they give you a buzzer to come back once the food is ready. For my dish, you can choose to get either rice, fried rice or noodles. I love noodles so of course, I gave that a try. I waited for about 5 minutes and then my food was ready and sat down to eat. This place is very casual. There are lots of tables but only a few booths. The food is placed on a tray and you clean your table and place the tray back by the trash can. They cook your food for you once you order and you can see the chefs do the cooking. As I was eating my food, I saw so many people come in. The place was packed on a Friday afternoon. I was very surprised but hey, it's hard to get food so cheap these days. The food was decent. It was not the best food I've eaten but I didn't expect it to be excellent. They do however promote that the food has no MSG and some other health benefit that I can't remember at the moment. It was definitely filling though. I ate all of it and didn't have to eat again until dinner time, where normally i would eat a snack between lunch and dinner. They also serve sushi here and I didn't try any this time around but I saw the table next to me order it and it looked good. I might have to give it a try next time. The workers look like a bunch of high schoolers and the dude giving out the food was kinda derpy because he got my order mixed up or something but I should've expected much. He apologized though and got me my stuff in reasonable time so I'll let him pass for that. The space was well-ventilated and there were plenty of seats. Bathrooms were clean too, good stuff. Now the food...haha. Tell me why it seemed like the cook literally melted half a stick of butter and poured it ALL OVER THE DAMN FOOD. Over the chicken, over the rice, over the vegetables. Butter tastes fine when I taste it subtlety, but when you have to drench the food in butter then that either means the food is extremely tasteless or...well, the cook doesn't know what he's doing. Great place to grab a nice hearty meal. They give you a very good sized portion of food, and definitely does not skimp on the meat portions. I usually get myself a nice chicken teriyaki plate with either white rice or fried rice depending on what mood I am in, as well as a side of veggies. The fried rice is about the same as any type of regular fried rice you can get in any asian influence establishment. The chicken is very tasty and juicy and cooked perfectly. They coat the chicken with a nice amount of teriyaki sauce and each bite packed full of pleasant flavors. The big knock I would have about Sarku's would be how the chicken and other meats here tend to be very greasy. I have to use a couple napkins to dab over the chicken, that way I don't have to eat all the grease. But to be honest they can't change this, because of how they cook the chicken. You can't have that good tasting meat, without cooking it with a good amount of oil. Its not a make or break, so I can live with dabbing off the meat. One other thing to note is I think this Sarku is actually one of the better tasting locations compared the ones. I think the location in Springfield Mall is the worse because the meat there is always overcooked. All in all, great place and I will definitely be coming back here again and again. Yesterday they charged me for things I didn't order, and then hassled me about refunding their overcharge. Then the Sarku store manager gave me only chicken when he knew I had ordered and paid for shrimp and chicken teriyaki. (We were the only people in the store at the time.) I have been trying to expand a little bit and decided to try out sushi. The thing that bothers me most about sushi is that sea weed aftertaste which this place does not have. The dumplings are okay not really anything that one can write home about but the teriyaki chicken is alwats excellent. Super excited that I found a teriyaki restaurant near by. I like the fact that the restaurant was bright and clean with the cutest chairs ever!!! At first I thought this place was only teriyaki but was super excited to see that they offered bento boxes and sushi. Since I'd never tried sushi with teriyaki chicken I had to give it a go. I also ordered a side of veggies. I'm guessing I was the first person to order just veggies on the side because the cashier had no clue what the price was and someone in the back eventually said they'd charge me the price of a drink.
