Run of the mill "Asian fast food". Offer a little of everything so it's not really "Japanese". Basically your airport or mall Asian food outlet. Price is ok, wouldn't go back.

After window shopping on Labor Day, the kiddies and sister worked up a sweat and hunger and decided to stop into Sarku Japan for lunch. Located within a shopping center, parking was easy enough to find. As we stood in line, the sister registered at the counter for their (unwanted) text advertisements and received 6 pieces of Gyoza (fair deal I suppose). She ordered two Bento Boxes and subbed the the noodles for the rice. The food came out rather quickly but finding a clean table took a bit longer... I'll give credit to the person that was wiping down the tables but the problem was the crumbs that left the table and went straight to the floor... I dined on noodles and salad and was happy to find a Dumpling that was full of cabbage.. as greasy as I'd expect it to be, the food managed to kill the hunger pains but unfortunately with this new vegan diet created gas pains a few hours later.... the floor under the drink machine could have definitely used a cup or two of bleach and the twin said the Bathroom was Grade A D.I.S.G.U.S.T.I.N.G... supposedly someone backed it up and left a surprise for unsuspecting patrons.. she promptly informed the guy at the front counter about the problem who said.. "Yeah it flushes every 5 minutes..." (huh) just lazy and nasty and as fast as that grease hits the bowels the one thing that should be working is the bathroom ... I can say we Won't be returning and definitely don't recommend... I could of boiled some spaghetti at home and it would have been healthier and more fulfilling... Ms. Foodie

I know this is a fast food chain..... Maybe I'm spoiled with bento boxes from Sushi Prince($11), but the deluxe bento boxes ($10) here were definitely...MEH... We both ordered the teriyaki beef and were surprised at the thin slices of bland meat. I did notice that most people ordered chicken teriyaki so maybe that selection was better. I opted for the deluxe box which was an additional $2, and I got shrimp and veggie tempura. I honestly can't say that I have tasted anything worse than this tempura. The batter seemed soggy and old. I didn't think anyone could really ruin tempura, how hard is it to 'fry'? The rest of the meal(sushi, salad) was good. There's a selection of soy sauces and sarachi. T he place is clean and the staff is friendly. If you have only 10 minutes to eat, and want to stuff your face fast, then this place might do. I'll probably stick to the lunch specials at another local venue.

The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. I've been there 3 times, the first time we didn't have a reservation and the hostess seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. She said the waitlist was very long. We decided not to wait. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.

We used to be exclusively Ariake stans but this place takes the cake. As soon as we walked in I felt like I was transported to Japan. The smells, the decor, the low-key-ness. We ordered the maguro with mountain yam, tempura, a bunch of nigiri, and one roll. The tempura is as it should be (and it's so hard to see it done right here in the states). Crispy and light. We liked it so much we ordered another plate. They also give Japanese sized portions (not American) so it's easy to eat as a light appetizer. The nigiri was the star of the show. We ordered our favorite pieces a la carte (there were a few fish that weren't available like kanpachi and chutoro so we changed it for other pieces). The fish to rice ratio is INSANE. Super thick cuts and perfectly formed nigiri. I also loved the fact that the chef torches the eel in our tobiko eel avocado roll. Gave it an extra depth of flavor. Also we keep forgetting but we can ask for our salmon nigiri to be torched! Will definitely do that next time. I love the hole-in-wall vibe and the fact that it's like a family run restaurant. The wife and husband were speaking Japanese to each other and my boyfriend felt like he was back home. Can't recommend enough! Pro-tip hit up the froyo shop next door for dessert.

It's the kind of place built for convenience -- quick in-and-out, well packed, and still hot by the time you get home. Ideal for weeknight dinners when cooking isn't happening and you want something dependable without a long wait. Menu Size: The menu is extensive -- classic, old-school Chinese takeout style with plenty of combination plates, lunch specials, and chef's specialties. Lots of variety across chicken, beef, pork, seafood, and vegetable dishes, plus the usual appetizers and sides. Good option for groups or families with mixed preferences because everyone can find something familiar. Chicken: The chicken dishes are the highlight. Portions are solid, and the chicken is tender with good breading-to-meat balance in the fried options. Sauced dishes are well coated without being overly heavy, and the flavors come through clearly rather than tasting generic. Whether you go sweet, savory, or spicy, the chicken plates are consistently satisfying and feel like the safest bet on the menu.

My personal fave is their salmon nigiri and Fortune House Roll. Their rainbow roll is amazing too! The cuts of the fish are huge and a good proportion to the rice. Salmon literally just melts in your mouth! I love most of the appetizers, esp their karaage (ika and chicken), miso soup, gyoza and soft shell crab. The chefs are super friendly and accommodating, and one time, they even gave me nigiris on the house (probably because I was loving the food too obvious!). Parking is easy, and the place is quiet and clean. If you are in Burke, this is a must try!
