Worst Sushi experience of my life. Shame on me for going with a cheap sushi option, but damn even Grocery store sushi is better than this place. The sushi rice on the roll was spongy. It was grossing me out and I could not finish my meal. I think Sarku is good for fast food Bento Box options, but don't go here for the sushi. Again, it's on me going with cheaper sushi, but I hope they read this review and up the quality of their rolls. Sushi rice is not supposed to taste spongy!

Cheap reliable food. Really what's more to say. You will always come here for the most bang for your buck.

This is probably the best mall food court restaurant you will find in Oakridge Mall. The chicken and shrimp are always cooked perfectly. There are hits and misses with the veggies. Most of the time they are warm and basically raw. Today they were just cold and undercooked. I want to emphasize I have been here many times and this is the first time the vegetables have been so undercooked that they taste like you need a veggie dip to put on them. You really need to pay attention when your food is on the staging area. Sometimes they place scoops of food and you have no idea if you should take your plate. It's just a little inconsistent sometimes. It would help if they communicated a little more during the order or when they are done. Overall for mall food it's not bad. It's probably the healthiest option out there aside from just getting salad.

IMO, Sarku Japan is one of the best mall food court options for price, value, taste, and quality of food. For $13, I got a big o beef bento box, added chicken, some gyozas, and California rolls. It was enough to feed my daughter and me easily. I love watching them cook everything fresh on the griddle. They are super fast, and the food is fresh and super tasty. The crust that forms on the chicken is supper flavorful and delicious.

Pre-covid review: My cousin and I came here on a weekend and it was busy-busy! I'm unsure why this location doesn't have much of a high rating because my personal experience went really well! My stomach usually isn't happy if I had bad sushi but after eating here, I didn't have stomach pain at all and the fish tasted really fresh. Tekka maki: 5/5, Simple but still my favorite (I forgot which rolls my cousin ordered though + the bento box) Service 5/5, Food took awhile before coming to our table but I understand since it was busy.

*Dined in the mall* I forgot how good this place is! This rating is based on the value of the amount of food and taste for that value. This is not a 5 star dining experience but my gosh! They load you up so much I had food for 3 lunches. I love the chicken teriyaki. The sauce is a standard teriyaki so a tad sweet but not overly. The chicken is cooked perfect and I love how some of the pieces are a bit crispy. The gyoza is good, stir fried. For mall food, this is bussin'!

Look at the pictures I posted and tell me that that is not the most beautiful looking dish you have ever seen. Teriyaki chicken and chow mein noodles covered in teriyaki sauce, enough to give you a heart attack and make your taste buds explode at the same time. But worth it! Sarku Japan at Oakridge and a Valleyfair is a tradition to get after a long, exhausting day of shopping at the mall. For about $10 and at most 15 minutes of waiting in line you can get the most mouthwatering, biggest sized portion, and tastiest item in the whole food court. I percent recommend subbing whatever vegetables or rice you're planning to get to be "healthy" with the noodles. Because these noodles are thick and covered in teriyaki sauce, make sure you ask for extra.

We love Sarku! Whenever we come to the mall, this is typically the only place in the food court we get food from. This place does tend to get busy, but the food always comes out fast. With COVID, they are doing a good job with safety measures. The staff are wearing gloves and masks and there is hand sanitizer by the register. My fiancé and I both got the teriyaki chicken and they were very tasty! There's is always a good amount of both rice, veggies, and meat. It's extra tasty with some sriracha! We got our order to go since we didn't want to eat at the mall. They gave us utensils, napkins, and sriracha packets in our bag. I know we will be back soon!

They be giving free samples. The food is ok and a good place to eat at a mall food court.

But after weighing the price of the all-you-can-eat vs ordering exactly what we were craving a la carte, we decided to just order off the menu, which was the smart move since it was much less expensive and we ended up full. The place is casual and a little not-fancy decor or ambiance wise. You wouldn't bring anyone here you wanted to impress. . .but the food is what's important, right? The sushi was good! The rolls were large, the options were creative, and everything was tasty and met expectations. I wouldn't say it's elevated sushi, where there are layers to the flavors and you go "wow". But you get your sushi and see the portions are a good size and are happy that you get to dig in and eat satisfying sushi. I'd come back here again, especially for casual sushi where you want good value. Service was good as well - again, nothing fancy or overly attentive, but perfectly adequate for the level of restaurant. Also, it came pretty quickly, which was a plus as well (it wasn't that crowded when we went).

We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. I wouldn't mind coming back again to try other items on their menu when I'm in the area.

A waitress there had told me there would be a $7 charge to do that and I paid anyway, but a waiter from our most recent visit assured us there's no charge to mix broths and that there may have been a miscommunication. Glad I asked! We always order 2 sumos: Black Angus Prime Ribeye and the Premium American Kobe Beef but we decided we love the Kobe beef more and would stick to that moving forward as it is more marbled and tastes fattier. My go-to order is SUMO Premium American American Kobe with Traditional Seaweed (Konbu) soup. The American Kobe is much more marbled and tender than the more expensive Angus Prime Ribeye. Sure, the ribeye is a 'better' cut but its actually not as good for Shabu since the thin slices negates the need for the ribeye to be a tender cut. The Angus Prime Ribeye is generally and usually not as marbled as the Premium American Kobe Beef at this place. Regular/Large/Sumo is 5/8/11 oz if you are wonder, I asked.

Everything was courteous and polite and welcoming. The food was not bad either. The Volcano Roll was a new item for us and it was kid-approved instantly. I also got the Warriors Roll and the waitress suggested the Dragon Roll after I decided on eel and not shrimp. The prices are reasonable as well.
