Near-impossible to get a table, but if you can, then it is well worth it. We first tried to get in on a Friday night at 5pm ish, which was unsuccessful because the queue was crazily long. So we came back on a Tuesday at 3pm and managed to grab seats at the bar - slightly tight seating but expected. The food was incredible, service matched that and we loved the tiramisu and the martinis.

I would rate this at a 4.5. The restaurant is great and they do their dishes well. It's also reasonably priced for what they provide. Their biggest issue is the immense clout they've received, causing insane long wait times. AFAIK there are no prior reservations available and they only take walk ins. Walked up at 4:30 on a Friday. There was already a line around the block. Around 5 a server came out and took down all our names and numbers. Then you're allowed to leave and come back when you get a text. It seems like they fully book out the restaurant for the night through this line so rolling up later on in the evening is a no go. It's a cosy restaurant with one main dining room with about 10 tables seating parties of 2-4. There is also I think a private dining room to the side seating larger parties and also a bar and an outdoor sidewalk/patio with several additional tables. The lighting is dim and the ambiance is warm and comforting. Their wooden chairs have a sleeve in the back that they fold up and place the menus in - I found this a little tacky as it creases the menus and makes them dirty. Their menu highlight seems to be greens as they have about 15 salads/veggie dishes available. I had the insalata verde which was incredibly fresh. The dressing was very light and cut the bitterness of the greens rather nicely. The calamari comes with exactly two fried shrimp - the shrimp are huge and quite a bit better than the actual calamari themselves; they should add a separate fried shrimp basket. This is not served with Marinara. There's also quite a popular fried zucchini dish where the zucchini are sliced into long, thin fries. The dessert menu is on the bottom of the main menu and isn't priced. The zabaione came out to $16 - we got strawberries; it seems like they switch out the fruit based on seasonal availability. The cream was thick and flavorful - the touch of Moscato wine came through very nicely. I appreciate that they don't make diners wait on the sidewalk for hours. It you don't mind eating late/waiting in the vicinity for a couple hours to be seated and can make it here around 4-5p I think it's a nice eat. There's plenty of comedy, jazz and Washington Sq Park not too far from the restaurant to kill time while you wait.

I walked into Via Carota on a Friday at around 1pm. We were quoted a wait time of around 45 min for lunch which we decided to wait for so we put down our name and then went to get a coffee nearby. After not hearing back for around an hour, we went back to check in with the restaurant and there was a long line of other people waiting. Thankfully we went back then because the hostess said a table but just finishing up and we were next in line (with so many people waiting, I feel like tables would be given away fairly quickly if you aren't there in time). The restaurant is obviously super cute and vibey: lots of natural light, the white tablecloths, a young and attractive crowd that looks mostly out of Hollywood movies. It's both elevated and casual at once. Our waiter came by to explain the specials for the day and start us off with some still water. We ordered two glasses of sparkling rose which was refreshing and yet had enough body and flavor complexity with fruity hints. For food we shared: - Fritto misto: generous portion of fried seafood. Perfect for sharing. Comes with a lemon wedge. A bit on the more heavily battered side and a bit too salty. I wish it had come with a side of some sauce to balance the flavors out a bit more because it got a bit old by the time we were done. - Piselli salad: worth the hype! Freshest lettuce I've had in a restaurant in NYC. So beautifully presented too. It came with beautiful green peas that screamed "spring is here". Truly beautiful combination of flavors with the earthiness of the peas, the creaminess of the cheese in the dressing, the salty punch from the prosciutto ribbons. Quite excellent! - Funghi: another really great dish. Very rich, they actually served this as a side with our pasta which I thought was very smart. The mushrooms are meaty and the dish includes a few varieties of them. It's flavor profile is earthy, with highlights of shallot, olive oil, and of course the smoked cheese at the bottom which ties everything together. I almost wish they served this with toast or some sort because it is pretty rich on its own. - Cacio e Pepe: creamy, pepper forward, nicely balanced sauce! Pasta was not al dente. Good but would not say it's the best cacio e Pepe I've had in NYC. A bit disappointing. - Pappardelle: this one came with a nice boar ragu that was tender and perfectly spiced. The flavor of the sauce again was nice but nothing out of this world. The pasta was also a bit too cooked. - Semifredo: after a long debate, we chose this over the tiramisu which ended up being the perfect choice. This dessert is amazing-- first of all the flavor profile is like that of a Ferrero Rocher except less sweet. The texture is mousse-like but not too airy, and full to the brim with bits of toasted hazelnuts. The flavors of chocolate and hazelnut are perfectly in balance. It comes with light whipped cream, chocolate dipped gooseberries, and two small biscotti. A very fun dessert with a lot of components that will keep you happy until the end. Overall, standouts really were the apps (especially the vegetables), and also the semifredo! In terms of food, this place is good but I am not sure it is much better than other more lowkey places around the city. The ambiance and location are pretty exceptional though and I would likely come back if the opportunity presented itself again. I can see the appeal of this very open, elevated space in the heart of the West Village, especially in the summer. Prices are on par to other popular Italian spots. Service was very good and professional. 3.5/5 stars.

    Classic Tiramisu for dessert.

Stopped in for a Sunday lunch. The location is beautiful with a chic rustic feel to it. The service is fantastic, having been greeted immediately upon entering and shown to our table. Attentive service follows through. The menu changes seasonally. We ordered the carpaccio special and Spuntini Olive All A'scolana appetizers and the flat pasta with pesto sauce special. That would have been enough for two, but we also ordered the Rigatina - pork belly and wow that was amazing. For dessert we shared a classic Tiramisu. The wine selection is good. This location deserves several return visits.

I am a local. I am also a foodie. I ate at Via Carota for the first time. My expectation was that all of the hype was just that..."hype". I was wrong. The food, service, vibe was amazing. We had the salted fish, a salad and Cacio e Pepe and a Negroni (and the bread). Everything we ate was amazing. The food was sublime. The service was casual and a "TEN". The vibe (ate outside) was perfect. Loved it!

Walked up around 4:45pm with no reservation for a table of 4, was seated just around 7pm - not bad since there's lots of cute window shopping to do in the area. We chose to sit outside, just a warning that there are a couple of street vendors with their kids that keep coming up to the table throughout dinner to try to sell you stuff - if that would really bother your dinner, perhaps choose to sit inside. The appetizers were my favorite part of the meal - salad was excellent, and the arancini had a generous amount of cheese. I think the pastas we tried were just okay, and surprisingly small portions for the price. My partner has been here before, and thought the risotto was much better than the pastas we had. Would not recommend the polipo - the octopus was a little rubbery, and the olive pesto was a rather odd blend of flavors that we ended up leaving mostly untouched. The braised pork ribs were actually really good, and a ton of food - felt a little heavy by the end, so it was nice to split it with 4 people. Overall, about 3.75 stars, good but not my favorite Italian place.

Via Carota has been on my wish list for years. Finally I slipped in at lunch today - put my name in and waited less than 30 minutes and before I knew it we were sitting outside with the best people watching view. The hostess was incredibly kind and professional. Our server was outstanding in every way, especially to tables around us who were very rude to him, which he handled with complete grace. I regret I do not recall his name, but he wore glasses which had a greenish frame. He was a true professional. Now the food - it was more delicious than I have been anticipating all these years. We had the prosciutto appetizer, the wild boar ragu pasta, and the cacio e Pepe. The pasta was exquisite. We also had the affogato for dessert which was almost a replica of the best affogato of my life, which I had in Florence. Our awesome server told us the chef was from Florence- it all makes sense! Completely delicious- I wish I had tried sooner for the wait list. I would go back over and over.

We went for lunch and the place was pretty packed. We had a reservation but the table we got was pretty small. That def made the ambiance not the best but the service was great. The food was solid but we didn't feel like there were any standouts. The white asparagus was my favorite of the bunch

Snagged a 10am reservation on a Sunday. Ended up solo dining since my guest bailed last minute and no regrets. The staff was so friendly and kind for my situation they gave me a mocktail on the house! the inside gives classic old school nyc italian vibes truly super aesthetic i still ordered a ton of food to enjoy. i started with an anchovy bread and it was so savory i loved it! also got their seasonal salad with raddish, hazelnut, honey, cheese and this was such a good call. it was crunchy and savory i just knew i had to take it home to enjoy later. for entrees i got their seasonal salad tagliatelle pasta which had a small portion but i honestly couldnt finish it anyway. super savory and full of flavor and came out piping hot as i like it def would recommend and come back as theres still so much i want to try

I will be dreaming about the grilled mushrooms and skate for a long time. I've been trying to eat here for a long time and my cousin snagged a reservation so I was able to tag along. We were a group of 4 and tried a bunch of menu items - they all really blew us away but I would have the skate dish every single time. Bustling restaurant - a little tight in some spaces! Our bags kept getting bopped into and service was slightly off - one of our dishes was missed but the nice thing was we had extra time for conversation as it extended our meal!

Yeah. Definitely worth the hype. A fantastic lunch to remember in a quaint living room setting. The arancini was fried to perfection. The sauce on the cacio e pepe was glistening, tantalizing you to finish the plate without savoring every bite. I had to try the tortelli special (it was a monday). Once again, the server killed it with the suggestion.

Just walked into this establishment, down the street from our home swap in West Village from Venice Beach and was treated both rudely and in a pejorative tone by glass-wearing, short brunette female staff, when inquiring about a reservation. For my snowy BIRTHDAY today of ALL days. Lady we aren't begging to give ya business! Taking it elsewhere asap. Lawrrdd have mercy!

Meatballs and tagliatelle (sans peas for some reason..?)
    Dining D.

Waitstaff and ambience was wonderful. Food was good but was expecting it to be amazing. The meatballs were not that flavorful and then eight was the sauce but the texture was great. The Tagliatelle was greasy and only a hint of Parmesan and not enough prosciutto- also for some reason ours came out with no green peas... We also got the cannellini beans and bead to start. Everything was tasty and the price point was good. Just nothing life changing.

I dined with a friend and we ordered 3 pastas instead of an appetizer (fantastic choice). We tried the following dishes: *Garganelli Mushroom Ragu and Ricotta Salata.
