Three doubles, one without sauce
Rosie H.

4.5 rounding up IG made me do it. They had me at wagyu halal. Fridays 5 pm - whenever they sell out. Now in the reels they did warn that it took about an hour from waiting in line to order till the order was ready, so I kept that in mind. The parking is a little wonky because it's a pop up but I was lucky to find street parking nearby. By the time I got there, there was already a long line of people patiently waiting to put in their order. I was looking forward to having fries with my cheeseburger but unfortunately, they weren't selling fries that night. Bummer. At any rate, it did take about 10 minutes before ordering three doubles - one without sauce and two with sauce. I waited about 40 more minutes before my order was called. During that time, I ordered a latte at another pop up next to Say Cheez Burger's tent. It was great because it kept me warm since the weather was getting colder at night. There was a man there with his dog and when I asked him if he's tried their burgers before, he said, "Yes, four times. It's definitely worth the wait." I was excited hearing this. By the time I got it home, it was still nice and warm (I think it helped that I put on the heater and they put a cover over the box). The cheeseburger was a hit at home. I took my time eating this to taste all the flavor. I love really smashed burgers so this was really tasty to me. I love the little crispy edges, grilled onion bits, and the soft grilled potato buns with the melted cheese and pickles. I have to say it was pretty damn near perfect. The burgers are rather large which helped with the price point of $12. Now, is it THE best? No, but it's up there! I'd say Mario's Butcher Shop Deli is probably the best smash burger I've had thus far but it's missing the crispy lacy edges that Say Cheez Burger has.

I love a good smash burger and this place hits the spot!! I'm sad they're only open on Fridays but it's such a great end of the work week treat. They're a small popup in the back of a random street but don't let that deter you. There were quite a few people waiting for their orders but the ordering process was quick. The workers were super super nice. I had to place an extra order a few minutes after my original order and the worker said he'll add it all in one so i wouldn't have to wait extra longer :) I love that they packaged all the burgers in a box that made it easy to transport. It stayed nice and warm and crispy even 15 min later. The burger itself was yummy! Ive never had a burger that was so crispy and juicy at the same time. Would definitely come back and hope they stick around for a while!

We ordered 5 burgers tonight as we have been wanting to try this place but with their limited open time, we haven't been able to coordinate. The rating would be a 3.5/5. I found the beef to be a bit salty and didn't care for the crunch. I understand it is a smash burger, but the meat was over done. I appreciated that the burger bun and burger itself did not get soggy, even though we had to drive 30 mins before eating. The sauce was a good blend. Overall the burgers were decent minus the points stated above.

Say Cheez Burger is a small establishment. I went to their opening day and a couple of times since then. They're located across a mosque every Friday night under a tent. I really like their smash burgers but it's definitely on the overpriced side. My husband and I got four burgers and one fries for $56. I believe each burger was $13. The service is relatively fast depending on the day. There's no way to contact them with a phone number so you should check their IG account to make sure that they haven't sold out for the night. Overall-- I would come here once in awhile, especially if I happen to be at the mosque on a Friday night, but if I want a burger, I can get them from cheaper places.

2x2 spicy smash burger and fries

This was a 10/10 smash burger - great flavor, not very greasy, good size, cooked to perfection, and a nice spicy kick with the slides jalapeños (maybe consider chopping the jalapeños instead)! The fries were pretty salty so I'd recommend toning it down on the seasoning. Also the line was nice and short. Make sure to get there at 5pm so you're not waiting an hour for your food :)

So glad I made the trip after work. The burgers are delicious, the bun (potato bun) complements the burger so well. I was impressed with the fries too. They are the perfect level of crispiness and with the dash of season they were tasty! The customer service was top notch! We will be back for sure!

We were looking for a good burger to eat so we checked yelp and saw this place and decided to come check it out. At first we thought we were lost because it was in the corner of an industrial business area with no retail or restaurants nearby, but quickly realized it was the pop up in the parking lot. Ordered a double smash burger and just the smell of the cooking meat was tantalizing! When they gave us our burgers we were surprised by how big it was, and even more mind blown by how big it was. But that doesn't even compare to what we experienced when we bit into the burger. 2 bites in and we knew we needed another one. I've been to a handful of all the popular smash burgers in LA. Burgers never say die, For the Win, Amboy And this smash burger is on par, might be even better! Simple menu of a double smash halal wagyu meat with cheese onions and pickle. The edges are crispy and crunchy, seasoned perfectly. The bun is soft and holds together well without getting too soggy and the size of the bun and meat is almost double the size of other smash burgers. If you're in Irvine, and looking for a real, good quality smash burger, pull up. Sadly they're only open on Fridays. If I didn't live too far, this would definitely be in my regular rotation.

Arrived one Friday around 10 and they were sold out. Came back at 830 and the queue didn't look too bad but the wait was unnecessarily long. The burgers weren't ready until 1030 pm. People who came around 7 pm waited more than 2 hrs. The taste and portions were spot on but not sure I'd wait 2 hours next time.

Place is packed and boys on the grill are working hard. Tons of people hanging in the parking lot waiting for their orders. Can't wait to dig in and give it a try!

Dang !! Yelp pointed me here so I gotta give back. This place is delicious. It's a quality smash burger. Guy taking the orders so friendly ! Apparently now they offer fries too. My water bottle is for scale.

Having…read moreeaten at hundreds of Lebanese restaurants across multiple states--and traveling back to Beirut once a year--I have a very high bar for authenticity. My wife is also very familiar with the cuisine and cooks many of these traditional dishes herself. Last night, we tried BEI in Costa Mesa, and we are both absolutely thrilled to have found it. The hospitality here is amazing. Tommy gave us a warm greeting right as we walked in, and it was a pleasure chatting with him all evening. Our waiter, George, was equally amazing. He isn't Lebanese himself, but he jokingly told us that he is becoming Lebanese more and more every day just from eating the food here! He knew the menu inside and out, guiding us through the options and sharing his personal favorite plates with real passion. As for the food, my wife and I completely agreed that the chicken shawarma was easily the best I have ever had anywhere in the United States. It fully equals what you would eat at a high-quality restaurant in Lebanon. The toum (garlic spread), which is an absolute must for the chicken, was unbelievable. The hummus, baba ganoush, batata harra (spicy potatoes), and the fattoush salad were all absolutely amazing and perfectly seasoned. We finished the evening with an incredible knefeh for dessert. Even the hookah was great--smooth, well-prepared, and the perfect addition to the evening. They have a DJ on Fridays and a belly dancer on Saturdays, giving the space an awesome weekend energy. If you want genuine Lebanese cuisine paired with true Middle Eastern hospitality, BEI is a must-visit. We will certainly be back every time I am in town!

Several beer pitchers in @ HACHI (just next door-shout out to them)-- for a celebration of a breakup, the end of midterms, or simply the triumph of continuing to exist (in THIS economy?? were all needing to praise ourselves for simply surviving) -- we found ourselves drawn, like moths to a fluorescently lit flame, to Halal Guys. Now listen. The food? Solid. Reliable. The kind of food that understands you are not here for nuance. You are here because life has punched you in the throat and you require a plate of rice, chicken, gyro meat, and mysterious white sauce to spiritually stabilize. I used to go to the OG one in NYC when i was getting punched in the throat there too. (PUNCHED IN THE THROAT BY ACADEMIA, FIGURATIVELY, y'all haver crazy imaginations outthere). BUT it;s the people... It's always the people... The staff. My siblings in falafel... it was 10 PM. You could feel the collective energy of "we have been serving drunk people since sunset and you are the 437th group tonight explaining your breakup story while pointing at the menu." Not judging, just warmth and the quiet aura of people who have seen things. Who have witnessed humanity at its lowest point: ordering extra hot sauce and then immediately regretting it. JC looked in my soul and I think he understood,,, everything. AND JESS! (my fairy wielding a spoon scooping the heavenly meat and talking to me like a therapist??) And they fed us. Efficiently. Overall (1/5) This was easily my worst Halal Guys experience…read moreand honestly left me really disappointed. I came craving something familiar and left feeling like I wasted both time and money. First Impressions (1/5) When I walked in, there was only one person working, handling the fryer, the register, and assembling plates. I genuinely felt bad for her, especially considering the steady line forming. What We Got (2/5) I ordered a regular plate, which is what I usually get at Halal Guys. Nothing customized or complicated, just the standard order I have had many times before at other locations. Taste and Quality (0/5) The food was shockingly bad. The rice was raw and crunchy, which was hard to believe at first. The meat pieces were tiny and very chewy, and the pita bread was extremely soggy. On top of that, it was only around 4 pm and the usual spinning meat and grill were not even on, despite the line picking up. Service (2/5) The worker was clearly trying her best, but one person running everything in a busy location is not realistic. She was constantly running back and forth between the fryer and the line, which made the whole operation feel chaotic and slow. Space and Atmosphere (3/5) The space itself was fine and what you would expect from Halal Guys. Clean enough, but nothing stood out positively enough to offset the food experience. Was It Worth It (0/5) Not at all. As someone who is pretty frugal and almost always finishes their meals, I could not finish this plate. It genuinely felt like a waste of $18. Final Thoughts This location does not seem to be held to the same standards as other Halal Guys in the area. This experience was disappointing from start to finish.

However this time I thought I would try something different. So I ordered online with Mint. All the pictures and reviews were decent so why not? Well I should've stuck with my OG's because this was not it. I ordered x2 buttered chicken that was in a very small container (see photo attached) for $20 EACH! Garlic Naan that was $5, Mango Lassi also $5 and Gelato. First, if you guys are paying $20 for a small tiny container of butter chicken in LH please please do yourself a favor and go try Southern Spice. Their flavors are mouthwatering and the portion is huge. I understand inflation but this is ridiculous and the flavor is blah. It's like there is no spices in there at all just butter and tomato sauce AND the kicker...no rice! Super weird to me that they do not automatically give you rice! Like who just orders butter chicken or any Indian,Chinese, Korean dish for that matter without rice! I mean rice has to cost you guys a pretty small fraction no? Just give people 1/2c of rice! If not, at least you should make note of that on your menu so people know ahead of ordering. The garlic Naan is decent really no complaints there, the Mango Lassi they gave me was the size of a kiddy cup (see photo) Literally a child's sippy cup is bigger than what I received for $5 insane! And just to make matters worse, when I opened by bag they placed my gelato directly on top of the hot food! So when I took it out, it had completely melted. $10 for melted pistachio creamy soup, just what I wanted. You guys have to do better for your customers. I get the price increases but for what you are giving and the immense amount of lack of flavors...is wild. Save your money, drive a little bit further and eat some true Indian food in Irvine/Tustin cause this place is not it. The pictures posted are truly beautiful but pictures are not everything especially when it comes to food quality and flavor. I am only giving two stars bc the Mango Lassi and Garlic Naan were decent tasting.

The bowl already comes with the raita sauce (a yogurt sauce), so I got the green sauce as my choice of sauce after asking the staff for recommendations. The protein portion was super generous and very well-seasoned with their spice. The green sauce was my favorite and everything in the bowl mixed well together. The whole bowl was delicious and it didn't feel heavy, wasn't greasy. The Kashmiri Chai and the guava mango lassi are the most popular drinks, so I decided to try the guava mango lassi. The flavors blended so well. One wasn't more overpowering than the other, and the sweetness level was perfect for me, also, not too much ice. Masala fries So crispy and well-seasoned!! Could be a little less salty. Gulab jamun cheesecake Also asked for recommendations for their cheesecakes and decided to go with this one. It has the fried donut ball in the middle with syrup. It didn't taste too sweet to me, but I also have higher tolerance for sweets. The center has so much of the cheesecake cheese and it was super soft and fluffy. So delicious! The samosas were also great! Crispy and not too oily. I also love that they use compostable takeout containers, including the lid! The interior looks nice and there are a few seats available. There's outdoor shaded tables and seats too. The only downside is that I wish the outdoor seats were a bit cleaner. There is a free parking garage, just make sure to park in the retail spaces.
