The meatballs were delicious and warm The poke tasted well...descent flavor What we absolutely loved was the surf & turf tacos I will say their service is great Easy to reserve Staff is super friendly and professional They also seem very attentive... In no way am I placing this restaurant down But I did feel that the food tasted very " home made " And not exactly outstanding " chef like " Perhaps I am not wording it correctly But also for a place in Del Mar it was pretty inexpensive .... The highs - The host staff and the bussers were awesome and so on top of it. Good job to you. I love all the amazing dogs that get to hang out there; it's like the Westminster kennel show..... Coconut shrimp was yummy. Coffee also delicious. Bread and salsa = outta sight. Lows Waitress forgot about us after greeting the table. Didn't see her again for 25 minutes. Bummer I was starving. My wife and I decided to stop in to Sbicca for brunch/lunch on a recent Saturday. Overall, the food was good but the service was really messy...like who's on first? Here is what we experienced: - We decided to sit on the pleasant front patio. A server stopped by and took our drink orders, and we also asked for water. Shortly thereafter, someone else came by and asked if we wanted drinks...he didn't have a clue that we had already provided an order to the other server, but two is better than none right? I guess. - Our drinks arrived but the water was forgotten. After a while the second server stopped by and asked if we wanted to order food. We weren't ready yet but let him know that we were still waiting for water. - A bit later, the first server came by again and we gave her our food orders. My wife ordered the Crab cake floretine and I ordered the fresh local catch fish sandwich...well, apparently they actually had to go out to catch the fish because we waited, and we waited, and we waited. We even saw someone else arrive, order, and get their food all in the period while we were waiting for ours. - Eventually the server came by (by now my pint of beer was just about gone, even though I was nursing it so I would have some left when I was eating) and she admitted that there had been a printer problem in the back and that our order was now back on track. No offer to make up for the issue; no offer to comp a meal...even just a little token of something would have created some good will. - So, our food eventually arrived. My wife really liked her dish; my fish sandwich was good, but the fries I had asked to be extra crispy certainly weren't and the fish was a bit dry. The server never stopped by to check on how our food tasted, so we kept trying to flag someone down to get a bit more of the sauce that was on the sandwich. Eventually we were able to get her attention and get the extra sauce. That made all the difference, as I really enjoyed the sandwich after that. Again, Yelp has it right. 4 stars is perfect. Good not life changing. I bet the brunch on Saturday and Sunday are fantastic and way better prices. $5 mimosas. That a good place to start. Last night we sat upstairs and enjoyed a nice warm summer night. We started with a Rosè and a cocktail, both good. They have a very well put together wine list. The Malbec I had later was terrific. My wife's chard was very good as well. Food wise, we started with the cheese plate and I asked our server to eliminate the blue. Not a problem Brett said... he was the shining star all night. Just fantastic! Also had the special seasonal risotto. Uneven for me. Also had the trout which was very very good. The big knock here is price. $30 for trout? In Bev Hills ok, but a beach restaurant? I know it's Del Mar but that is a big boy price. I'll come back for the $5 buck mimosa and start over. read more

Good service in a downtown street of Del Mar. good menu too and we tried appetizers of steamed bun, meatball and calamari. I like the steam bun and calamari which has lots of veggie. The entree menu has good varieties and the signature dish is roast pork prime rib. I tried it. It came really thick with 2 rib bones in one uncut piece. But amazingly the meat in the middle is really soft and juicy. I wish there are more flavor but the texture is really nice. We also tried the desserts. I had the Kulah tiramisu and it was a bit too sweet for my taste. read more

We have eaten at this restaurant several times and we always enjoy it. The atmosphere is great with a really nice outdoor patio area. The bar area is also fun and lively. The food is really delicious. We have tried several entrees and appetizers and we have enjoyed them all. We especially like the fried calamari, which is probably the best I've ever had. Dress is a range. You will see people there in jeans and a nice shirt all the way up to suits. I would say dress more towards the nice shirt and jeans attire. read more

One of our favorite places to eat in Del Mar. several awesome patios downstairs and upstairs. Not tons of TVs in the bar area, but you are steps from the ocean so who needs tv! Fun crafty cocktails. The spicy marg is SPICY!! Everything we have ever ordered was beyond delicious. Chicken buns, chicken parm and bolognese are our favs! We could eat them multiple days in a row! If you are going for lunch you can easily walk in and get a seat at the bar or a table. If you're going for dinner make a reservation, they fill up most nights. read more

Terrible, I never write these reviews but had no choice tonight. These guys are the worst. Sat us under a heat lamp with black soot falling on our table in our food and on our heads an clothes. We sat it out but even though we did not really complain...when we told the manager via the staff at the end the manager did nothing. They need to fix this issue report it to the food hygiene group in the town and credit people who sit at that table. Thumbs down to this place and they had such a nice view and nice waiting staff, but the management don't get it. read more

This restaurant never disappoints. The food is great and reliable and the service is always great. We come here often and just about everything on the menu is amazing. I love the beet salad, the Korean beef lettuce wraps, meatballs, and the filet mignon tacos. Definitely don't miss out on any of these if you're considering trying! This beautiful and classy restaurant in Del Mar blew me away! The food is great and everything I had was like WOW. I was so full when I left. Couldn't fit anymore good food in my stomach. The Food 1. Bacon wrapped shrimp with avocado, corn, cilantro & romesco 2. Korean beef lettuce wraps with strawberry, cucumber & mint 3. Bowl of lobster & shrimp bisque 4. Buttermilk Fried Jidori Chicken 5. Truffle Mac n Cheese with truffle mornay, aged white cheddar & crispy bread crumbs 6. 5 herb truffle fries So my favorite has to be the Bacon wrapped shrimp..omg AMAZING. The shrimp is big and juicy and it's wrapped around medium cooked bacon. I was in heaven. Next time I'm ordering two of those. My second favorite is probably the 5 herb truffle fries. The seasoning made it addicting and I couldn't stop eating it even though it was making me full fast. Korean beef lettuce wrap was tasty. Lobster & shrimp bisque was a good choice and I like that it's not too rich. Truffle Mac n Cheese tasted like alfredo to me for some reason but not in a bad way. I was too full to eat the Jidori chicken so I had to bring it home, but it was still delicious the next day. Service was on point and our waiter checked up on us a lot and was accommodating. We had multiple people come by to clear the table of empty plates, because we ordered so much food. I like that the staff was on it and attentive. Overall great experience! Holy busy signal! ‍ I have passed by this place many times and have always wanted to try it. So when my friends said let's go for happy hour I was happy they chose Sbicca. My friends had been there awhile and had a high top right by the front door. It's a small place so it was pretty packed. You know, like sardines. I ordered a glass of Sauv Blanc...New Zealand of course...from the waitress (Jessica T) and patiently waited for it to arrive. About 5 minutes later Jessica returned with my glass of wine. But there was one thing missing. THE WINE! Never have I ever been served an empty glass of wine. I thought maybe she had one of those mini carafes in her other hand and would pour the wine into the glass. NOPE! She placed the glass on the table and walked away. Ok, maybe she forgot the carafe and is coming right back. NOPE! I sat there staring at my empty wine glass for about 7 minutes. Then Jessica came back and unapologetically poured the wine into the glass. It was pretty busy and she was the only waitress so I kinda get it (no I don't). But the amount of attitude that was given to everyone, especially when it came time to throw the checks in the table, was uncalled for and extremely unprofessional. I will go back to try the food someday. Hopefully Jessica will have a better day...if she's still there. read more

Very nice location, with an upstairs and downstairs seating. Came for a pre wedding rehearsal dinner and a party of 18 people. The establishment had no problem seating us comfortably with ample personal space. We started off with some shareable items, the crab cakes and crispy chicken dumplings. Crab cakes come in two, so if you're a big party order a few to go around. The dumplings were surprisingly good, not like the ones you get in the frozen section at trader joes. I ordered the Mexican white shrimp dish and subbed the chorizo risotto with a veggie risotto. Best decision, cause the risotto stole the show. Don't get me wrong, the shrimp was sufficient, but the sides are not to be overlooked. A few ordered the salmon which came out perfectly cooked with a nice sweet chili glaze, heirloom tomatoes and a nice saffron aioli. We also ordered the prime rib which came out like a work of art dripping in compound butter. The steak was a massive 12oz for $49. Didn't get to try the short rib or buttermilk chicken, but I guess i'll be back for it! I usually take pics, but I couldn't help but devour my food. read more

Such a fun little spot in Del Mar to have dinner. You can sit outside and enjoy the night air and people watch. The food was mostly incredible. But the burger was (which was ordered med rare) was so well done it could barely be cut. So we had one fail. Everything else was amazing and the ambiance was wonderful. My friends & I have always had a good experience here. However, this evening . My friend & I had drinks on the patio early, 4:00. We had closed our tab & were headed out but continued a conversation in the walkway, to the side. The tables On the patio were all empty. There was no one coming up the walkway. Maribel, the Hostess went out of her way to ask us to move because they were expecting a rush. Really?!? We found it extremely rude as there were no people coming up the walkway and if there were, we would have adjusted our positions. I happen upon Sbicca after a good morning walk for some some breakfast. I did not want something to heavy so I ordered the "Everything is Green in the Field Scramble" which came with three eggs, fresh spinach, freshly chopped jalapenos, chopped green onions and sliced avocado served with potatoes, but I went for some Toasted English Muffins instead for $12. Before the scramble arrived, I was presented with a complimentary pop over with butter and a berry preserve. The pop over was quite pleasant to eat. It arrived piping hot, which allowed the hard butter to melt readily in to the bread. The pop over had a very good light toasting on the outside and very moist center. The berry preserve that came with the pop over was great. The scramble was very well prepared. I loved that it had that it had that velvety soft texture and had spot on seasoning. The spinach was just right and the green onions had a good peppery pungent flavor and crispiness. The jalapenos added good flavor and just a mild heat, but nothing tough. The sliced avocados were perfectly ripe and went along perfectly with the green theme. The English Muffins came with a great toast on them and were perfect for eating the scramble with. They were firm muffins and I can see why they use these same ones for their eggs Benedict's. The scramble does not come with the toast, but it's available for an extra fee or can be substituted for the potatoes. I ate at the bar, and the female bar keep was great. We walked in looking for a meal and were escorted upstairs right away. So far, so good. Looking around, we took in Sbicca's comfortable, clean decor. From the upstairs deck area, the ocean peeked through shoreline roofs. We swirled our waters, and winked at our fellow lunchgoers[1]. Our waiter asked for drink orders, and I hesitated whether to spring for a half bottle of wine. After that, our waiter found an excuse to be elsewhere, and apparently kept ignoring us, probably in favor of richer, less indecisive customers. When he finally did return (about ten minutes later, despite admittedly half-assed efforts to hail him) service was fine, more or less, probably because we opted for the half bottle (a light Grgich Hills "Estate" Chardonnay from Napa Valley), which was a recession-friendly half-off ($21). We shared a calamari appetizer ($8.25) whose highlight was its fun chipotle cocktail sauce. Not bad. My entree, the chicken havarti quesadilla with avocados ($11.50) came with a habanero-papaya (!) salsa, and a rather meek basil pesto. Despite the impressive-sounding ingredients, it was underwhelming as a whole, and the strangely overpowering cheese used wasn't a bonus. There was a bit of sunshine on my parade, as the accompanying fresh habanero mango salsa had a wicked bite. (Could have used more, and will have to - next time?) A flavorful vinaigrette salad flanked the quesadillas, and kept me from falling asleep. Sbicca's cooking wasn't particularly cheap nor memorable, but we had good conversation and decent wine. I visited Sbicca years ago for a friend's girls-only wedding shower. I thought the food and views were ok but nothing memorable. Recently, friend and I originally made lunch reservations for Poseidon but that quickly went to heck when we saw the disastrous parking situation by the beach. So we stumbled across Sbicca - well, more like Sbicca fell in friend's lap as she was driving and cussing about the parking and so happened to find one free open space RIGHT IN front of Sbicca. Maybe cussing really helps when finding parking. We ordered: Hess Collection red wine: - This nice Hess red wine was soft and easy to enjoy during lunch. Grilled jumbo shrimp cocktail with horseradish cocktail sauce $16: - We both thought the shrimp cocktail would be served cold so we were surprised to see these beautiful grilled crustaceans set in front of us. The shrimp, my goodness gracious, was AMAZING. They were grilled to perfection and tasted oceany sweet with a hint of smoke from the grill. The spicy horseradish sauce was just as good. . Citrus salad with organic mixed greens, crumbled feta, cherry tomatoes, almonds, avocado & blood orange vinaigrette $11: - We had the best server Karina that afternoon. Friend ordered this salad and Karina graciously split it for us. The split serving was generous, nicely presented, and filling. I could taste a bit of the bitterness from the blood orange but that's what I would expect from that citrus. The greens were fresh, feta was creamy, and I liked the crunch from the almonds. Bolognese sauce with rigatoni pasta, wild mushrooms & aged parmesan $23: - This rigatoni dish was the bomb dot com. The pasta wasn't overcooked and the tubes absorbed the bolognese sauce with ease. The sauce was full on meaty. There was so much beef (maybe even veal/pork as well?). There were large bits of mushrooms in the sauce. Plus, you could see tiny chopped carrots incorporated as well. Stone Pale Ale battered fish tacos with chipotle remoulade, napa cabbage, guacamole, salsa & corn tortillas $13: - The fish was battered and fried nicely. The exterior was crunchy while the fish (perhaps cod) remained flaky and moist inside. I loved the chipotle remoulade sauce on top. It was so creamy, flavorful, and rich. Crispy brussel sprouts with pancetta, aged parmesan & sherry vinegar glaze $9: - The brussel sprouts had a nice char from the deep fry but I didn't like the pancetta. The pancetta tasted un-porky to me. Something about the pancetta tasted artificial. But the aged parmesan and sherry vinegar glaze went well with this side dish. Kahlua tiramisu $10: - The tiramisu was served in a mason jar. You could see all the beautiful layers of this dessert. Perhaps it's been too long since I've had this Italian dessert because this tiramisu was fantastic. The mascarpone was light and fluffy. You could taste the kahlua in the soaked ladyfingers. And the chocolate shavings on top just made this dessert even more fab. Visit my blog for more pics and detailed review of this visit. We surprisingly enjoyed Sbicca that day (even with no a/c).
