This a small local cafe right off the I-5 Freeway, a great place to stop by if you're on your way to or from San Diego or even post surf-sesh. I came on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 PM, and there was no wait. The staff was pretty friendly here. I ended up ordering the Rancho Omelette with egg whites. It came with hashed browns and toast ($12.50). It was a huge omelette! It was a little (maybe a lot) on the greasy/oily side, but nothing your napkin can't soak up. The hashed browns were good. They weren't oily at all and were nice and crispy. Even the toast was perfectly toasted. Not phenomenal but not too shabby for a cafe you can hit up after catching some waves at the beach. read more

The menu is reflective of Southern California diner food; Traditional Americana breakfast items like pancakes, omelettes, waffles, etc. with some Mexican influences like breakfast burritos and chilaquiles. Portions are very big and fair for the price ($10 -13 for most items). These are the type of breakfast burritos you need eat with a fork and any item fills up like plate. if you don't eat a lot of food you might be better off sharing with a friend. Stray observation 1. S.C. Cafe = San Clemente Cafe. I know it's obvious, but sometimes your brain isn't functioning 2. You may have a little trouble if your party is relatively large. I'm shocked no one has reviewed this place yet!! I'm not exactly sure of the address, but it's across from the Surfin' Donuts right off the El Camino Real exit on Interstate 5, just go right if you're coming from San Diego or left if coming from OC/LA. They have great breakfasts: Any of the mixes are awesome, and spuds style adds potatoes, flavor, and lots of calories. If you're looking for lighter fare they have oatmeal, and some good veggie dishes, the vegi mex is tasty, but a little dry. The coffee is tasty and comes with plenty of refills, the pancakes are melt in your mouth delicious, and it's a good mix of young folks, old folks, surfer dudes, and the like. There's usually a wait, but it moves quick as the service is prompt and very friendly. It's the bottom floor of what looks like an office building, but don't be put off, it's very good, and super cheap: breakfast for three rarely exceeds 30 dollars. We asked the valet at our hotel in Dana Point to recommend a good "local" place for breakfast. He sent us a few miles South to the SC Cafe and it was more than worth the 15 minute drive. As the previous reviewer stated, don't let the casual look or atypical location of this place fool you... this place makes a mean breakfast. The Country Mix Spuds style was about $9 and it was easily enough food (and calories) for two meals -- but that didn't stop me from eating the whole thing. Ask for a side of Pico de gallo. It's fresh with just a bit of kick. My mom and my wife had the Bea's Omelette, also delicious. Don't remember the exact name of my dad's entree (Rancho Omelette?) but it involved eggs and steak and chopped peppers and was quite tasty. The best part wasn't even the food. It was that even though we were obviously tourists, the owner / waitress Nicole and waiter Johnny treated us like we'd been regulars for years. Nicole even managed to introduce us to her mom and brother who were sitting at the counter. While nobody can accuse SC Cafe of being particularly inventive with their food, I've ordered just about everything on the menu over the years and not once have I ever been disappointed. The food here is simple and delicious. My go-to breakfasts are the chicken fried steak or the chilaquilies. I love them both. What really wins me over however is are the owners/staff. SC Cafe is a family run business and I really appreciate that feeling of being welcomed with a smile every time I walk through the door. First time here... needed a dog friendly place since our fur baby was with us on vacation. Small hole in the wall in a small newer plaza, but plenty of patio seating. A bit on the pricey side for mexican food than we're used to for a hole in the wall. We tried the California Burrito... definitely Haoli version... but it was SO flavorful!!! Lots of bacon. Each bite had an even amount of flavor. A bit greasy, but no worries... it was devoured quickly! Lol. Would definitely recommend. And for sure we will make this a regular stop heading back and forth from Cardiff! read more

A very small little cafe, but you eat with good company. A very friendly staff each with their own little flair. Even with the place itself being small and an even smaller parking lot, it is a place well worth eating at. There isn't too many tables to sit at, but it's a cute little place that has some good eats. The bathroom is outside and around the side of the building but clean which we women do appreciate. There is a cute little note taped to the toilet for the guys asking them to lift the toilet and to put it down when they are done. It is signed from "the ladies" a little something that made me smile. My friends and I have enjoyed their food and have bookmarked it to come back to when we are in the area. read more

What I really enjoyed about the breakfast this morning was the fact that nothing we ordered tasted oily (despite the fact that we order Chorizo and eggs spuds style, two different omelets, and a bacon quesadilla). All the dishes were nice and light and we even left with our bellies full without the taste of chugging old used oil from Mc D's down our throats like many breakfast joints that I have been to! The portions were large and the coffee was actually pretty good. Has a good surf town vibe... and all the staff were very friendly. Although I wasn't happy with the gravy for the biscuits and gravy, I was happy with everything else. The biscuits were really good, hashbrowns were homemade, toast was hot, eggs were done the way my mom loves them, and the coffee was AMAZING!!! I didn't say anything about the biscuits and gravy, because well no restaurant really makes their own gravy. It either comes out of a can (which is how it tasted) or it comes out of a pouch. I also didn't complain because the biscuits were yummy. What I was happy about was the fact that even though I didn't complain about my food they still took it off the bill. That right there, is amazing customer service and will get me every time. If the owner or cook is reading this thank you so much for the breakfast, and please consider making your own gravy. It is super easy fast and has much more flavor to it. All you need is bacon, flour, milk, salt and pepper. A good southern gravy is always a crowd pleaser. read more
