I was really looking forward to try this new bagel shop and had heard great things so I was super excited. I went into it with high hopes and was sadly disappointed. They got my food order wrong and forgot my coffee. I was left with an untoasted bagel, without the cream cheese I asked for, and limp vegetables. They also gave my roommate the wrong bagel. Standard bagel place. Nothing is made on-site but if you get in close to when they get a batch it tastes awesomely fresh. I've never gotten their sandwiches (I make my own at home) so I can't speak to that. But I do eat these bad boys over 2-3 days and they're still good. Great bagels in the bagel desert that is Graduate Hospital. They have very tasty bagels (not the best I have had, but definitely one of the top). The lox bagels are a bit on the pricier side, along with the rest of their menu, but well worth the extra money. I usually get half a dozen bagels when I have family/friends over and a tub or two of their various cream cheese spreads and everyone is always very content! The staff is very friendly but it can get a bit hectic in their small shop on the weekends. Line is usually out the door if you get there between 9:30 and 11:30 on the weekends, so expect a wait if you plan to go during this peak lazy Saturday/Sunday breakfast time. If you buy one of their specialty sandwiches versus picking up some bagels to go, you will also have to add on about 10 minutes waiting. However, the do have some tables you can wait at and amazing coffee to pass the time. I would recommend their iced coffee. If you don't want to spend a lot of time waiting, go during the week and there will be little to no line at all and you can get your tasty breakfast sandwich right away! All over, I would definitely recommend for bagels in Philly, but expect a wait if you plan your Fitzwater Bagels escapade on the weekend! read more

I stopped in here because I was in the neighborhood and happens to be in the mood for a bagel. I ordered two. French toast with a sweet breakfasty cream cheese, and a whole wheat everything with butter for later. When I got home (too out of the way to return) I realized they switched the spreads. So dumb. Do you like garlic and salt on your honey pecan cream cheese? Yeah, I didn't think so. Such a simple thing. Get your act together. I've tried to give this place numerous tries because I love the idea of a neighborhood bagel shop. However, they almost never get my order right (simple sandwiches from their menu with 0 modifications - I.e. Western club) or they ring it up wrong and overcharge if you aren't paying attention. And even then I'm still overcharged when I realize what I got isn't what I ordered but have already paid. I understand busy mornings and it happens but this has been a consistent issue the past 4-5 times I've visited. Very disappointing. Also FYI for all you jersey people when ordering a BEC, the eggs aren't cooked on a real skillet. It isn't the same. I would stick with a simple bagel and cream cheese order .. the wide variety of flavor cream cheeses is the only reason this review has 2 stars instead of 1. read more

I'm updating these review to be sure that it's current and accurate. It was brought to my attention that they do offer egg whites-so you can get around the whole chunks of egg yolk thing. When the location first opened my boyfriend and I were told "no" to egg whites once and we just never asked again. They do offer them now, so that's a plus. :) I'm still afraid to order avocado from them so I'll probably steer clear and add avocado myself. read more

This is a solid local bagel spot with a huge selection of bagels and spreads. My go-to is the Western Club sandwich (or basically any other item that features the spicy artichoke cream cheese). I would recommend trying to go during non-peak times if possible, because this place gets packed and may take a while if they are backed up with orders. read more

My husband and I went here this morning and were super excited to try it, because who doesn't love a good bagel and YAY for supporting local businesses. First impressions were the place looked great and the people were friendly. We did not have to wait long for our order but unfortunately we ran into some issues. I ordered a sundried tomato bagel with garden veggie cream cheese, and my husband ordered the breakfast sammy (egg and cheese on a bagel with added sausage) on a cinnamon raisin bagel. Unfortunately, it seems like they accidentally swapped one of my bagel halves with one of his. So my bagel was half sundried tomato and half cinnamon raisin, (and same with his) which really threw off the taste of the entire thing. Additionally my husband was surprised to see that the egg of his bagel had a runny yolk, (something he detests, and it wasn't mentioned in the description) and we actually ended up bringing it home and toasting it in our toaster oven to try to salvage it. I'll likely stop in and try them again in a couple of months to see if things have improved, since they are just getting off the ground at this location. read more

First time was okay but the second time back was a different story. The bagel sandwiches are pretty on point; however, the drinks were a disappointment. My girlfriend got the iced coffee and I got the iced latte, 1/4 of a way through our drinks we started noticing a weird taste. The drinks started to taste like rubbing alcohol or so we think that's what they tasted like. We threw the rest of the drinks away. Got a sausage, egg, & cheese on a bagel. Give the sandwich a 6.6/10 which is low for a $6.50 breakfast sandwich. It's a very small shop that gets crowded on the weekends. No air conditioner. I had to wait 20 minutes for my sandwich and was drenched in sweat by the time I got it. The line was not run efficiently. Numerous people that were behind me in line and had similar orders to me got served sooner. There's also no stove so all eggs are made on a George Forman like grill thing. Not sure how the sausage patty was made. Isn't quite the way I'm looking for my breakfast to be made or served. read more

I did not have a truly terrible experience here, but this place is underwhelming coming from someone who values a good bagel shop. Bagels and staff are average and they are out of pretty much everything by 11:30 on a Saturday despite staying open till 2pm. The bagels are a bit tough, not particularly fresh (and have an icky sweetness), and it takes a long time even with a minimal number of customers...If you live within three blocks of this place, it's good enough to walk to when you're hungover. At the very least, they serve them hot, barely, with a good amount of cream cheese. read more

Selection of bagels and cream cheese is solid but it's extremely over priced for what you get. I live nearby so I went a ton when I first moved in. But as time went on, the initial awe of the variety wore off and I began realizing how much I was paying for a bagel that was not made as good as your grocery store bagel. They aren't seeded that well and never toasted as much as you want (even if you ask for it to be toasted twice). The bagel is thin and has very little flavor to it. Then they'll just throw the cream cheese on it. The staff is miserable and never look like they want to be there. I get it's not a glamorous job. But if I'm paying $9 for a bagel with cream cheese, they could at least put a smile on their face. I've started going to Spread which is a bagel place only a few blocks away from here. Price is pretty much the same but their bagels are so much better and freshly made (you can see them make them in their wood oven in the store) and the staff is much friendlier. read more

NO FOOD SAFETY KNOWLEDGE! I usually like this place, but what happened today really pissed me off and I probably won't be returning to this location. When I came in there were about 4 people in front of me. I ordered a veggie Sammy with vegan cream cheese. After 25 minutes of watching a dude make everyone's bagels without changing his gloves once and his pants half way down his ass, I proceeded to watch him start my bagel after dismantling a chicken salad sandwich with his hands. He didn't think once to change his gloves for a VEGAN order. I then continued to watch him place my bagel on the countertop without cleaning it off, then cut my bagel with chicken salad on the knife because he didn't bother to wipe the life off, which is standard food safety knowledge. He showed complete disregard for dietary restrictions and allergies. This situation shows me that they do not properly train their staff or educate them on food safety. read more

I have never seen 5 more incompetent people try to run a business. My god are they awful at fitz water. I've gone 4 times first two times they ran out bagels. 3rd time I went they set the fire alarm off while toasting bagels..yanno the one thing they should probably have under control by now. Today I walk into the shops and they call my name and some guy walks up 2 seconds before me and grabs my bag. No one even attempts to walk outside and fix the mistake. They don't say sorry and make my order again without offering me anything extra for the mistake. I walk home and open up my sandwiches and they messed everything up. If I wasn't hungover I would've walked the 8 blocks back to show them just how incompetent they really are. Maybe they should all get off their phones and actually take care of a costumer correctly for once. Besides the fact they 5 idiots run the place the bagels are quite good but that is because they are from south philly bagels..it's doesn't take much to toast a bagel and spread cream cheese. If you have the option of going to a sit down breakfast or trying to grab a bagel from fitz water..choose the sit down breakfast because it will be quicker and you will actually get the correct order. read more

This place is the bomb. The BEC is brilliant (steamed eggs, not fried) and the bagel selection is amazing. I want to try them all (5 down). I've had the rainbow bagel (doesn't taste like food coloring, just tastes normal) with the funfetti CC, and some of the savory cream cheeses (spicy artichoke so good). So after 6+ visits to my new neighborhood bagel shop, I thought I'd give it a review. I didn't want to do it after my first few visits, because they were totally different experiences, mainly because of the crowd (the first time it was packed when they first opened, the second no one was in there for lunch in the middle of the week). And I figured it was only fair to let them settle into the new 'hood. But now I feel like I get the store. This is a franchise. Do not be fooled into thinking otherwise. They know what they're doing, but they're on autopilot. They might as well be called the Acme of Graduate Hospital Bagel Company since I've never seen the same worker in their twice (assembly line of workers?). But that's the bad of it as the service is all over the place depending on who is working. I'm writing specifically today because I just had a good (not amazing) experience at the shop, but the bagel sandwich I got (The Wagner) was out of this world. In fact, all of their bagels and all of their sandwiches have been amazing. And that's the plus side. So it's been a crap shoot on service. If it were in the middle of center city, it probably wouldn't bother me. But I can go to 19 degree cafe down the street where everyone knows my name and takes the time to joke around with me (to keep things real I have been going there for 2+ years now) vs just a few months at the bagel shop, but still no familiarity with the employees. They're always checking their phones and just not being attentive. Even the best service I've received there has been mediocre at best. I want and think they will succeed. I just don't see it changing service-wise. But a good bagel is hard to come by and until someone opens a real neighborhood bagel shop (which undoubtedly should happen even as a smaller level operation), I think it will still draw the neighborhood folks in, because we have no other delicious bagel options. Please work on your service and I'll rewrite this as 5 stars easy. Until then, it's just the Primos of bagels. Turns a profit, but it could be in any neighborhood or not one at all. read more

A welcome addition to the neighborhood! Are these my favorite bagels in Phila, no, but they are certainly not the worst! This is the same family who owns South St bagels which has been around for a long time so they must be doing something right! I'm a creature of habit and typically get the same thing every time which is funny since the price changes depending on who rings me up (from $4 something to $6 something which is a 50% change) which is because of not having a register button for the peanut butter I order, which is listed on their menu and would take a couple minutes for them to just add into their register system. I just wonder how many times I paid 50% more for my bagel when picking up larger orders where I didn't catch it! I'm a bit of a coffee snob who brews a French press every morning but there coffee is a good substitute if I'm in a rush or in need of a 2nd cup. Service is always friendly and the place is brightly lit and is clean. I do wish they would move the condiment bar from the register to the wall or elsewhere because it causes a clusterf*ck at the register at times. read more
