I was a bit startled by the high prices, but as others have said, these sandwiches are plenty huge to share -- I can't imagine eating an entire one, even after a long hike. They've got all the typical sandwich suggestions or make-your-own on a variety of bread choices. Everything comes perfectly hot & toasted, so it takes a little longer than those sandwich chain shops. Stopped by on the way to Rocky Mountain National Park. Scratch seems to be more liked by locals than some other places, so I take that as a good sign. It was fairly busy on a nice afternoon in the summer, but we were able to order and get our food in about 15 minutes and grabbed a table outside. I got a chicken salad sub and a slice of coffee cake for after the hike. The chicken salad sandwich was fabulous--very tasty and the bread was just crisp enough. The coffee cake was meh--not a whole lot of flavor but it was still nice after a long hike Service was curt--not the most warm and friendly place I've been to, but the food still stands out. Breakfast burritos the size of your head! Stuffed full of eggs cheese and choice of meat - my favorites are cheddar and Chrissy bacon or ham and cream cheese. If you get there early enough you can snag a cinnamon roll. I suggest calling and ordering ahead. Sandwiches are great too! Huge! Delicious! The fresh bread, the perfect meats, and the top notch ingredients! So thankful for Scratch stepping up the food game in Estes! So far, I've been partial to their Black & Blue (amazingly, mouth watering!) and the Reuben (soooo good), but, my husband has gone a dozen times on the way home from the park (and on the way into the park!) and tried many different options and has not been disappointed once. As for cost - totally worth it at their $7-14 price range for a sandwich. First: remember, you are paying for high quality, healthier, homemade ingredients. (This is not Subway!) Second: Share! Even after a 30 mile bike ride, I have split my sandwich with a friend and been more than satisfied. Third: Try a special of the day! It's normally less expensive and showcases the creativity of the staff. Seriously, thank you, Scratch, for helping to bring Estes out of the bland food hole they have been stuck in for decades! My husband and I agreed that these were probably the best sandwiches we've ever had! I created my own with honey whole wheat bread, turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, and sriracha aioli (image attached) and my husband had the Philly Cheesesteak. All of the ingredients were obviously very fresh and delicious, from the smoked/carved turkey, sliced avocado, incredible bread, and more. The staff seemed very knowledgeable and passionate about making a solid sandwich. It was awesome to see the bread, meat, and cheese go on the grill after we ordered - while we had to wait a little bit for our sandwiches it was clearly so fresh! Needed to swing by a deli on our way up to our Sky Pond hike. Scratch was the first place that came up for us so we decided to give it a try. When we first arrived, we were concerned because there the place looked closed. No cars in the lot, no "open" sign that we saw. But once we walked up the stairs we saw that there were some people inside in the kitchen. Their menu is pretty limited here, and the few options that I wanted to go for (i.e. Turkey, Bacon, and Guac) they were out of. It was only 9 am so I was surprised that they were already out. And they don't even offer chicken as one of their meat options, which I found strange. I think the "bakery" portion of their name is misleading. I didn't see any pastries besides a tray of cinnamon rolls that they had just made that morning. But even then, they only make a couple of dozen and don't make more once they sell them off. We ended up settling for the italian sandwich. It was definitely savory - in fact, it tasted exactly like pizza. But the whole thing was just super greasy, so much so that it was soaking through the wax paper and made you feel a little sick after eating just half of it. I think if you're in the need for a quick sandwich on the go and you want friendly service to go with it, Scratch is the place to be. But if you are looking for (healthier) options, or just more variety, go somewhere else. read more

We were in Estes Park for a quick overnight getaway and found this place for a late lunch. It is located at a strange mashup of an intersection but that did not distract from the great food and the beautiful view from the porch. I had a the grilled cheese with a perfect gooey mix of cheeses that I could customize as I wanted (mustard and tomato for me). My husband had the roast beef French dip - delicious. First visit today so here is some advise for first time visitors. 1. Make sure you are hungry ! They give huge portions. I could only finish 1/2 my sandwich and I hadn't eaten since the night before and I was stuffed. If someone is heading into the park I would think one sandwich would take care of a person for the entire day. 2. They make their own bread and it is amazing ! 3. I recently visited the bakery during a trip to RMNP. I was excited by the amazing pictures of baked goods, sticky buns, and cinnamon rolls. When we walked in, the case only had pasta salads in it. It was 9a on a Thursday. I don't know if they only bake things on weekends or what. I was disappointed, but they did offer breakfast burritos. I was glad we stayed. The burritos were huge. Neither of us were able to finish them. They were actually really affordable too. While I was sad I didn't get any of the delicious baked goods I've saw others post pictures of, it was one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in a long time. read more
