My wife and I stopped by one morning last month for two breakfast sandwiches on our way out to hike at Bear Lake...the first of which we ate on the drive, and the second we at a few hours later at a good halfway point stop in our hike. It hit the spot both times. I was kind of disappointed they were out of their cinnamon rolls by the time we got there around 9 am. The space is very small, definitely not a dine in place for large groups...there are a few counter height seats looking out the front of the establishment. We needed a place to grab a quick bite of breakfast on the way to the trails. Scratch was in such a convenient location to our cabin and they serve some amazing baked goods and breakfast sandwiches/burritos. My husband and I shared one of their giant cinnamon rolls. We shared one burrito on the way to the trail and had the second one as a snack during our hike. The food was fresh, tasty and just what we needed. Super friendly and fast service. It blows my mind how this place is operated... you never really know if they're open or not and when they are open you can never know if they're only accepting credit cards, cash, some lucky trinket you inherited from your grandpa before he passed. Look, I know the outside is not the most visually appealing and the parking situation is less then ideal (park in the back) but this place hits it out of the park (pun). The bread is homemade, meats are cured in house and you 100% taste that. Ordered the black and blue and each bite of the massive sandwich had my mouth drooling. Yes, the sandwiches are expensive but if you are an average person, you probably could split one with a friend, family member or pooch. Also, the quality of the bread and meat is worth the extra couple of bucks. Stop here and you will leave full and satisfied. Mom and boyfriend got the Philly Cheesesteak and loved it, could have used some sauce on it maybe as it was dry a bit. Dad got the BLT and he loved it, said he never gets a BLT where he can actually taste the bacon. They used thick cut bacon. Loaded potato salad was good to me, could have used more flavoring-maybe just salt and pepper. Chocolate chip cookie was amazing! Highly recommend this place. Food was fine but the parking lot was full so I parked and stayed in the car off to the side while my wife and kids went in to get takeout. Took 30 minutes to get the sandwiches and the manager came out and berated me for parking where I was (incorrectly stated I was blocking traffic even though the lot emptied out past me as I waited and waited) and implied I was a lying for stating the parking lot was full when I arrived. Mah! 1. I am all about supporting local businesses! So I am glad we stopped in. 2. The prices were a bit outrageous. You do get a pretty large sandwich and you can smell that they not only bake their own bread but also cook their own meats. However, $12( $13 if you want cheese) for a basic turkey wrap!!! Wow 3. Nothing is included with that wrap. No chips, small drink, sweet treat..nothing. 4. There was about 6 people there when I stopped in...way too many for a uber small deli joint. So maybe the high price of the sandwich is because of the labor cost. I'm glad we stopped in and was able to support a local business , but I would not go back nor would I recommend the place. Amazing, filling sandwiches! A lot of the food is made from scratch too, hence the name. We figured we deserved a sandwich after hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, so we ordered a sandwich each. My friend and I decided to go halfsies and trade her smoked turkey bacon avocado for my Philly cheesesteak. We both inhaled the TBA, it was soo good - the smoked turkey had a great flavor, bacon was nice and crispy, and the avocado was a generous helping. Delicious sandwich, the only problem was we were so stuffed, we only took a bite from the Philly cheesesteak. The bite I took promised goodness to follow, but I was too full.
