Having had breakfast here previously, we decided to try Scratch for dinner and enjoyed it! I'm not a kale person but the country gravy fried chicken biscuit that had kale on the side was good! The kale kind of melted in your mouth and the chicken with the gravy and biscuit was good! I think the only thing I would have liked is a bit more gravy. The smashed potatoes were fine but nothing special. One thing I forgot to take a picture of was the deviled eggs which I enjoyed! They aren't your typical deviled eggs as they are deep fried and like anything, everything is better fried! We ended with Brulee'd French Toast and the Bread Pudding and both were delicious!!! When we arrived for our reservation there were maybe 4 tables being utilized which was a little concerning considering it was a Saturday night. The service was just bad. Went to Scratch Kitchen for brunch on a Saturday. It was about a 20-minute wait, which wasn't too bad. Service was good. Had the spicy chicken and waffles, which was pretty decent. Chicken was moist, and waffles were cooked perfectly. The spicy component wasn't very prominent, so anyone with low spice content need not be deterred. Also shared the sweet bread French toast, which is one of my favorite dishes to get there. Parking is not an issue as it's free and ample spots in the structure usually. read more

Dinner at Scratch Kitchen was very delicious and plated well. The service by the staff was really good even though the restaurant was full. When we got to the host station we were greeted and seated rather quickly. We had a reservation but we were seated very quickly. Some restaurants you make reservations to sometimes doesn't seat you right away. The ambiance of the restaurant was very beautiful and the noise level was average and not disturbing at all. Stopped in to dine before COVID hit and shelter in place was ordered. My girlfriend had heard about the Milk n Cereal pancakes, and the concept sounds amazing so we decided that Scratch Kitchen was a must stop before we left the Island. We arrived mid-afternoon, so the place was essentially dead, it was our group of four, maybe one other table and the people who worked there. I ordered the Kalbi Burger, Guava Picker, & and order of the Famous Milk n Cereal pancakes for the table. In the spirit of brunch life I decide in the Kalbi burger since it comes with an egg on it. & I was very happy with my choice, the burger was very juicy and cooked perfectly. The Guava picker was both light and refreshing. And the main event, the Milk n Cereal pancakes ended up letting me down. I think they're more of a novelty more than anything, they have a condensed milk based syrup, and toss the Frosted Flakes on the plate for you which is fun, but the pancake themselves we just OK at best. Definitely wouldn't order them again if I were to ever come back. My biggest gripes were the small menu selection (not a huge deal), but the prices are pretty steep here, you can definitely find something on the cheaper end and get as good or better of a meal. read more

Decided to try dinner from here based on a friend. Ordered the lilikoi ribs and grandma's porkchop online. It was ready before my scheduled pickup time. When I looked at the porkchop, seemed a little too deep fried. The seasoning on the porkchop tasted kinda "asian"(like a little bit of 5spice was on it) and was a little salty. The pasta that came with it was fine, a little too much capers and didnt really taste the lemon that was supposed to be part of the sauce.. Porkchop was well done and a little dry. As for the ribs, it was more salty than the pork chops and couldn't even taste lilikoi. Corn and the smashed potatoes it came with were bland. For the price of both dishes, it is not worth it. I've been to scratch several times but only for brunch. Each time I am so happy upon leaving! Since my husband and I were in Kakaako the other evening, we decided to stop in and try their dinner menu. We were lucky and got a table right away (which was clear this is usual because after us, everyone had to wait). Lucky us, because we were hungry! We decided to order the burger and the kale cobb salad with shrimp. We got the popcorn chicken for an appetizer and this was honestly my favorite dish. The chicken came with three different sauces and each was better than the last. We devoured the chicken within probably 3 minutes. Had a fantastic meal here this week. Made a reservation for 7pm on a Tuesday, but it wasn't too busy. I want to try everything on the menu, mostly comfort food. I had the fried chicken and biscuits with fried kale. The kale added great flavor to the meal. It was too big for me to finish. Burger- the burger was cooked to perfection, very juicy. Appreciated the gooey-ness of the brie cheese. The slice of apple was a nice substitute for the pickles and the bacon was crispy! I've been ordering take out from here since a year ago. Before the food was great but quality has gone down. Not much flavor in their sandwich. The oil they use to fry their food taste old or used too much. Food's taste isn't as consistent like before. Maybe the chef's make whatever they want? Now the restaurant has kitchen appreciation charge. I'm not sure how long the charge has been there but the restaurant should pay their kitchen staff better rather than relying on customers' "kitchen appreciation charge". Staff were also unfriendly. I ordered take out online and it was fast and easy! The system they used required me to sign in to my google account first (which is a first for me). I paid online through Google and received a text message confirming my order and when I can expect it will be done. It also provided me with instructions on how to pick it up (super helpful)! My food took about 24 minutes to be done. I ordered a Pork Adobo Loco Moco (my favorite). Filipino food mixed with local food = YUM. I never though adobo with gravy would be so good. I'm sure the food is great. I don't know because my wife is the one who's ordered. I got the receipt in my email. There is something charged on there called a kitchen appreciation fee with an explanation. Why am I paying for all those things INVOLUNTARILY? What if I didn't think my dish was prepared well or my silverware was cleaned subpar? A tip was left but that was based on performance of the server. Why am I also responsible for spreading a little more around to the rest of the staff? (i dont get this stupid policy as it was not like they were full) And then another staff said i could sit at the counter if i wanted.. then a different staff said if im not ordering anything I need to go back out and wait. Super rude as I was already drinking the water and still reviewing the menu since ive never been there before. 2) My friends came, and we sat and quickly ordered. They brought two coffee and we said we only ordered one, then she came back later and i said i also ordered a pineapple juice and she said why didnt i tell her earlier? hmm what? You should know what i order or ask whoever took the order. She just had a snarky attitude 3) Then later we asked if they could take a pix for us, and she told us to wait (like she didnt want to) and just went around and did her own business. Luckily a while later, a nicer servant came back and took one for us. 4) On top of this they also charge an extra 4% kitchen fee. Not sure how i feel about that. During this time of take out orders and dining at home, it's good to know that restaurants aren't skimping on good ingredients and good preparation. Tonight we ordered takeout: "crispy" Brussels sprouts Lilikoi BBQ ribs (starter) Dawn Patrol salad House burger Grandma's fried pork chop pasta I'm sure the sprouts would have been crispier if we had dined in but they were very tasty with the right amount of saltiness from the capers and parmesan cheese. The lilikoi ribs (4 ribs to the order) were meaty and tasty, with the right amount of sweetness. The salad was also tasty and it was nice to be able to dress the salad with the great balsamic dressing rather than have a soggy salad. The house burger is a double 4 ounce patty affair, enough for my dinner guest to squirrel away the second patty for later! I loved the pork chop pasta: it's a very lightly breaded pork chop deep-fired to a perfect medium-well doneness over pappardelle pasta with a delightful caper parmesan coating and some fresh veggies. A nice balance of porkiness and pasta (lol). We skipped dessert because we cheated and bought a cheesecake from one of the bog box stores, but it's nice to see you can even get the bruleed French toast or cereal pancakes for dessert at dinner time. Dec. 2018 review: I stopped in here for breakfast since my mom raved about the French toast that she had last time with my sister. We had the French toast and I also ordered the sausage and shrimp grits. We also had some coffee too. My mom was right, I'm not a big fan of French toast, but the French toast was soft and yummy. It had also blackberries and strawberries. What a treat! The sausage and shrimp grits was also delicious. My mom never had grits before, so she was pleasantly surprised how good it was. We had reservations. We started with the Popcorn Chicken and a side of fries. I've never had popcorn chicken like this before. I think it was made with dark meat. It had a good flavor, and they gave us a variety of sauces to go with it. For my meal I had the Scratch Loco Moco with the pork adobo.
