Dan was attentive, made food suggestions and allowed a pasta substitute from large noodles to Angel Hair pasta. The Alfredo Shrimp pasta was to die for! The Italian wedding cake was very tasty. I think the appitizer Sampler should have had more than 1 shrimp and 1 Scallop but the amount of Calamari was great. I would definitely dine at Scuzzi's again. Scuzzi's is our favorite Italian restaurant in town. My wife and I particularly enjoy their happy hour menu, but Scuzzi's has also been our go to restaurant for family get togethers and birthday dinners. Starting with the ambiance, the restaurant is clean and well maintained, the tables are set with white tablecloths (which is a rarity these days) the lights are dimmed but not too dark, and background jazz music is at a good volume (not too loud). Overall it's a relaxing place that nicely blends neighborhood lounge with upscale restaurant. The staff is very professional, well mannered, and attentive without hovering. It is evident they have had great training. On to the food, we almost always get oysters and Shrimp Scuzzi's. The oysters are a good size and prepared well, if you don't like them fresh, I recommend the oyster Mazi. Over time we've had most dishes there, we keep going back to try all the happy hour dishes, but dinner standouts have been scallops, chicken piccata, beef lasagna, even the steaks are really good. Good wine list, I always get the same type of wine, but they have good options. Mazi does an outstanding job running this well oiled machine. I highly recommend for date nights, family dinners, and special occasions. read more

I had 2 cocktails which were okay and the seared scallop entree which also had pasta in a lemon butter, garlic sauce. Still being relatively new to SA, we haven't explored the Italian restaraunt a here and decided to give Scuzzi's a try; despite it having a 3.5 star review. My first impression was that it was nicer Italian restaurant with darker woods that somewhat felt like a steakhouse. It was busy and the noise level was high. We were promptly greeted by a waiter who quickly said welcome and "do you want a shot of tequila?" It seemed out of place for the ambiance and foreshadowed the service we would have. When we did place our drink order, the waiter tried to upswell us on larger drink orders and almost reacted in a condescending way when we declined. Our food was delivered promptly. I got the carbonara which was way too heavy and too fettuccini-like to be a traditional carbonara. Again, when I ordered it as it came, I was pushed to add a protein by the waiter so I obliged and added shrimp. We didn't finish our entrees so we got them boxed. The waiter pushed for dessert even after it was obvious we were done. All in all, the food was average but the services was obnoxious. It didn't help hearing them do the same to other tables too. Came here for Valentines even with a reservation we had to wait a bit however it's Valentines Day thats to be expected. Ordered the calamari appetizer which is by far one of the best in town. It's strips instead of rings. It was very tender. The fettuccine primavera was cooked just right. The SCUZZI shrimp was succulent. Both the tiramisu and the limoncello cake were Leo very delicious. Staff was friendly, the food was delivered timely and fresh. Been wanting to try this out for a while and glad I was able to finally enjoy. There are several banquet menus to choose from. We added appetizers to create a four course meal. Everything was out of this world!! The place is not what one would expect. It was a bit ornate and heavy handed when it comes to decorations. Felt like a place old mobsters would go to and have gone to for 50 years. Table was spacious and the service staff very friendly. Our waitress was really nice and accommodating. The food was tasty: my wife had the Bruschetta and I have the Linguini Carbonara. Bruschetta was great, as for my pasta, it was cooked properly, al dente, and the sauce was very flavorful. They used, in my opinion, too many onions and the onion cuts, lengthwise, didn't pair up well with the diced pancetta. That said, a good dish. They were quite busy with the limited options so the kitchen got a bit backed up. The service here was excellent and that really helped boost the score. The food was fine. It definitely tasted fresh but felt a touch dated relative to the more modern trends. The same applies to the decor but that kind of works as it has a more old school Italian restaurant feel that conveys class without making you feel out of place. The prices were on the higher side but the portions were generous. Combined with the excellent service I would recommend this place for a nicer night out. read more

My wife and I went here for someone's birthday celebration. The staff were friendly and the area where they held it, the patio, was very nice. It was a little breezy, so they turned on the heaters. At the end they did something else for her as a birthday. My wife is a very big fan of Italian food and she loved everything she had and would go back without question. She had a Caprese salad and manicotti and loved every moment of it. I, however, am not the largest fan of Italian food, so I ordered a steak. I asked for it to come medium rare and when I cut into the it steak was brown all the way through. I thought that it might be just because it was the edge. I was invited to my girlfriends 35th birthday dinner at Scuzzis. I had been on a egg diet the entire week before her dinner so I was more than ready to go when the time came. The place was semi packed in the parking lot but once I walked in there was tons of space between patrons and social distancing taking place. My girlfriend had a pretty large party it was about twenty of us, it was 5 tables put together to accommodate her large party. The setting was nice, the tables were adorned with white tablecloths and the waitstaff was impressive. I got there a tab bit late but I didn't notice because my waiter was so attentive to getting my order in, I didn't feel so late like I wasn't eating with the group. I ordered the Chicken Saltimbocca Dinner and the Lemondrop Martini both in which were exceptional! It was my first time having that dish and it was so good. The wine sauce complimented the chicken and the pasta was soft but still had girth which I liked. It wasn't a flimsy noodle ha! Lol The LemonDrop was perfecto not too sweet or tart, was pretty strong and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and overall experience. It was so nice catching with all my high school girlfriends with everything going on in the world, I'm so glad we make that time. I rate my visit 5 stars because of my delicious meal and the fast, attentive service I received. My entire experience was pleasant and I would definitely recommend if your looking for a romantic Italian date night or a sexy girls night or birthday dinner. This was our third consecutive year to celebrate Thanksgiving at Scuzzi's. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the host was very welcoming and polite. We had been looking forward to our Thanksgiving Day lunch with a few family members and also to celebrate a birthday. Immediately after being seated for our 11:00 a.m reservation a family of 5 was seated nearby. They decided to include a family /friend via speaker phone to join them while they dined. Needless to say it was loud, annoying and very disrespectful. After about 20 minutes we told our server to please have management ask them to be respectful and quickly end their call. After about 10 minutes of this annoyance the family was asked to turn down the volume on the speaker phone conversation. Our holiday/birthday lunch was completely ruined simply because management didn't have the courage to ask the family to end the call. Sadly this tradition will now end and it wasn't because of the food, service, or price. Our bill was $293.36 and we left a $60.00 tip to the server who was acting very nervous not knowing how to handle the situation. It wasn't his duty to resolve the issue. We made a reservation but when we showed up, it was like they were a busy restaurant that did not take reservations as patrons were told even with reservations there would be a 40 minute wait. Some people left even though they had reservations! That being said, after we were seated, our service was very good and we did not have to wait for extended periods of time for our food. Our waiter was attentive and the food was fresh and flavorful as always. I had pasta with vodka sauce and it was very flavorful and the pasta was perfectly cooked. We came here for a dinner date and overall we were pretty underwhelmed and felt that the food didn't fit the price point. For example when our food came out they offered Parmesan cheese, but it was pre shredded and they just spooned it over the meal. We also ordered 9oz of wine which comes in the little decanter and the waiter immediately poured all of it into the glass. The food was good just not $30 for a plate without any sides. I ordered the Gorgonzola chicken which had Gorgonzola cheese, spinach, olives, and red bell peppers and was served on a bed of spaghetti. I like good food and service. This is the second time we've come here for dinner and both times I have been very happy with everything. Granted we had reservations on Valentine's Day, which means that they were very busy. But I didn't mind the time between getting my salad, entrée and dessert. It gave me extra time to enjoy the food and make room for the next dish. I left satisfied, not stuffed. On Valentine's Day they did have a special menu, so from the special menu I chose a Garden Salad, Shrimp Scuzzi and their Italian Cream Cake. Upon entering, your greeted with a "comfortable" feel in their dosing room along with a very welcoming hostess and bar. After being seated, we have the pleasure of service from very personable waiter. My wife and I ordered veal piccata and chicken Marsala respectively with house salads and lemon cake for dessert. In a appropriate time, our meal was brought to our table. The bread and the house salad we're good. The was tinder, and the pasta was cooked perfectly but was slightly under seasoned. However, the capers helped flavor the dish. My wife was slightly disappointed with her chicken Marsala, but I thought it was okay. In fact, I tasted the marsala wine and was fine with the dish. I think my wife is used to generic chicken marsala. Finally, I think the dish was fine, and would like to try more offerings. Struggling with what to give them overall. The food was fine and not only was it Mother's Day weekend, but they also appeared to have a big party of some sort that required a lot of their attention. That being said, it was a mostly sub par experience. We had a party of 9 with a reservation for 630, and we were sat in the far corner of the restaurant closer to 6:45. Usually that wouldn't be an issue but they appear to be having AC issues and the portable, temp ACs they are using were no where near us. It was hot. Our server was attentive. No complaints there. The food was mostly good, but it took almost an hour to arrive after we ordered it. I blame this on the big party who got their food while we were waiting. Understandable. We all enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip and bruschetta appetizers. Very tasty. The main courses were more hit and miss. The penne dishes we ordered were not good. The vodka penne was a complete miss. My wife enjoyed the tri color tortellini and my son said his chicken Alfredo was good. We probably won't go back until the AC situation is figured out. This is our favorite Italian restaurant in San Antonio. The food is delicious with large portions. Enough to share. And they will split and give extra sides for only $3. My favorite is the Gorgonzola chicken. Then today I ordered a different chicken dish with squash and lemon butter sauce and now I can't decide which was better. Such a hard decision for next time.
