This our first visit to Scuzzi's in years. It used to be a casual Italian place, like a Zio's. We were pleasantly surprised to find that they had upped their game to become a fine dining Italian restaurant. If you have not gone there in a long time, go, now! The food was great. I had a delightful chicken piccata. My wife had the shrimp Scuzzi. Both dishes were made perfectly. More outstanding though, was the level of service. They have a trained professional staff - attentive, but not overly so, and responsive to any request. What a pleasant surprise compared to the typical San Antonio restaurant. The wine list was nice, and unlike most places, they had the wine I selected. And, it's a beautiful space - gold tile accents on the ceiling, booths that are ample in size. It was just perfect. From the appetizers to the main courses, everything was absolutely scrumptious and beautifully prepared. So, we went out to a different Italian restaurant, but they were closed at 6 pm, on a Friday. Weird, so we made reservations at Scuzzi's, and boy, what a great restaurant. We drove out there on a Friday night, made a reservation, but didn't really need to, but glad we did. We were seated right away, and the staff was super friendly. Our waiter took our drink orders, got a moscato politan, shiner beer, tea, and a water. All came quickly. I apologize, I took too long to write this review and I have forgotten what about our meal. All I can say is that I continue to talk about this place every time we talk about Italian food. All I can say is we got the appetizer and we tore it up. read more

Service was horrible Ray or Rey however his name is spelt, sucked. He was rude, dismissive and ugly towards us. He was very very horrible and ruined the experience don't come if you want to have fun because Ray will bring it down. He needs to be put in the back, or needs to continue to learn how to speak amongst customers. He had zero spatial awareness, all up in your face, and eager to do things quick which caused him to spill water all over me and the table. If i could take the automatic gratuity off, I would. So, I had a bit of a letdown at this restaurant. I ordered the "double chicken breast," but it was only a thin piece of chicken breast sliced in half. My sister's chicken cannelloni was also a bit cold, even though it was supposed to be baked. And when we asked for regular water, they kept giving us bottled water. I'm not sure where all the awards come from when the food isn't great. The lights kept flickering, which was a bit distracting. They seem to have a lot of staff, but it didn't seem like they had much to show for it when the food arrived. Definitely overpriced and could have gotten more food at Olive Garden. read more

"Italian ain't easy folks!" Ok that's my personal quote but you can feel free to use it. A good friend of mine, Brandon to be exact, frequents this house of Italian cuisine- so I decided to give it a tastebud test. Scuzzi's is located on the 1604 West access road between Huebner & Bitters. I live by Sea World which means I have about a 25 min excursion to dine here- and it better be good. If you're wondering why I'm speaking in the present tense, it's because I've decided to start my review as soon as my gluts settled into my seat at the bar which has (4) 55" flat TVs. It's a Monday night @ 8:30 and it's fairly empty. So if you're looking for a more quiet time to visit this spot, Monday's at 8pm is your slot of choice. As an appetizer I ordered the Brushetta (tomato, garlic, basil, olive oil, Balsamic vinegar on crostini) which was $9. It came out in about 7-10, not too bad on timing. For my taste, the crostini had the right amount of crunch- not too hard, not too soggy. The tomatoes were fresh and the basil managed to find itself drowned out by the olive oil & garlic. The Bruschetta appetizer came with 4 pieces. Check my photo I posted. My entree of choice was the Chicken Lasagna. It arrived about 25 minutes after order time which didn't bother me considering I had 2 friends to converse w/ during the interim. To my surprise the portion of lasagna was perfectly rectangular in shape and it held its form even as my fork sliced through its layers. This is the first time an Italian restaurant served me lasagna that wasn't an blob pile of pasta and meat sauce. All form aside, I wasn't impressed with the chicken lasagna. It didn't taste fresh. It tasted as though it was pre-cooked, refrigerated, re-heated in the oven and served. The spinach didn't have the kick that fresh spinach usually provides. The meat sauce tasted flat. The chicken lasagna while not detestable, it was definitely a let down. On a parting note, I will return and try their spaghetti. My buddy ordered the spaghetti and shared a meatball with me and it was DELICIOUS! So, while I don't recommend the chicken lasagna, I do recommend the meatballs. I have a gut feeling that the entrees are more fresh during the earlier part day. It's sad to admit but we all know it's common practice for some restaurants to refrigerate, re-heat and serve some of their entrees to maximize profits. Saving a buck is a priority for many restaurants in this price range. Visit early and try your luck. Good service, good Bruschetta, disappointing Chicken Lasagna. read more

Worst Valentine's Day experience ever - disappointing service and poor management! We made a 7 PM reservation weeks in advance, anticipating a seamless and romantic evening. Shortly after, they called again to collect credit card information, stating that we would be charged $50 for a no-show--a sign that they took their reservations seriously. Unfortunately, when we arrived, that was far from the case. We walked into a crowded waiting area, filled with patrons who were also expecting to be seated. When we checked in with Alex, we were told there would be a 45-minute wait, despite our confirmed reservation. The staff appeared overwhelmed, unorganized, and indifferent. Names were being scribbled onto a piece of paper, and there seemed to be no real system for seating guests. To make matters worse, after we checked in, we watched as another couple--who had the exact same reservation time and party size--was immediately seated without delay. When we questioned the inconsistency, we were met with dismissive attitudes and no explanation. We requested to speak with a manager, hoping for some accountability, but after waiting 15 minutes, no one ever came. With no resolution in sight and our patience worn thin, we decided to leave, deeply disappointed that what should have been a special night turned into an exercise in frustration. I fully understand that Valentine's Day is a busy evening, but a restaurant of this caliber should be able to handle reservations professionally and fairly. Good service isn't just about the food--it's about honoring commitments, treating guests with respect, and maintaining order. Sadly, this establishment failed on all counts. Our group had a lovely lunch at Scuzzi's in Leon Springs, TX. Since we were more than 25 people, we were able to get a limited menu at a fixed price. When we arrived, our tables were set up beautifully to accommodate all of us while allowing the ability to converse with many people at the table. The staff was beyond helpful and extremely competent. This is a group that has gathered for over 20 years, and this is the best experience we have ever had. The food was excellent, and there were enough servers that we were all given our food in a timely manner. This is not an easy feat. We commend them. I had an absolutely incredible experience at Scuzzi's. Booking a reservation was a breeze, and the staff was exceptionally kind from start to finish. I called ahead about birthday surprises, and they truly went above and beyond--there were flower petals, a sweet birthday sign, and even a separate table set up for all of my gifts. John, our waiter, was fantastic--he walked us through the menu, gave spot-on recommendations for drinks, food, and desserts, and kept us smiling all night. Having lived and worked nearby for years, I finally had the pleasure of trying it out with my department's Galentine's Lunch. From the initial reservation booking to the reminder email and confirmation call, the customer service was top-notch. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and treated to an elegant ambiance that exuded refinement. Our attentive server ensured we had everything we needed. My wife purchased a groupon for Scuzzi's being that neither of us have ever been there. The restaurant is very nice inside. Shortly after our bread was served I noticed old tomato sauce on the bread dish, meaning it was never washed. I informed the manager and he just discounted it. I wasn't looking for a free meal, but if he wanted satisfied customers he could have given me my meal free or at least something, NOTHING! And that wasn't the worst, as we were leaving our waiter winked at my wife (wrong on every level). I still have 11 more groupons, if anyone is interested please let me know. read more

My girlfriend and I took my son for a simple lunch. And let me tell you we had two very different experiences. First off, I'm an Italian American born and raised in Brooklyn New York. So I know my Italian food and take it extremely serious. And this place, does too! Their food was absolutely delicious. The pasta, the pizza, the fried calamari, the wine, Everything! The night of my birthday we had who I later learned was the owner service us, Mazi. He was very cheerful and warming. His night staff was as well. We had a wonderful Father's Day lunch at Scuzzi's Italian in San Antonio! The service was prompt and genuinely friendly, and the restaurant was super clean. We started with the calamari and their awesome fresh, hot bread--both were a hit. For our entrées, the lasagna was the perfect amount of cheesy goodness, and my penne alla vodka had an incredibly fresh, flavorful sauce. I had my son's graduation dinner there this past week and everything was absolutely perfect. The service, the food, the atmosphere was everything I hoped for. All the appetizers (I ordered a variety for my guests) were delicious and the dinner just as tasty. Went there with family over President's Day '17. San Antonio was unusually crowded over the weekend. Scuzzi's was a great dinner stop. We ordered the Shrimp Scuzzi's, Tenderloin as entree and Fried Ravioli and Bruschette as appetizer. The food was splendid, and ample for us all. They have a good wine selection to choose from. On our member's recommendation, I tried the orange chicken served with fried rice for my entree, as did two others. I was overwhelmed with the gobs of food the server sat in front of me. There were at least twenty bite-sized nuggets of chicken sitting on top of a bed of fried rice. That bed was obviously a California King! They were lightly covered in the orange sauce, but still crunchy. It was a very satisfying meal. I had the other half for supper, and it was almost as delicious heated up in the microwave. One of our people had a pepperoni pizza. It was probably about 18". The crust was amazingly thin. It just looked awesome to me. My friend enjoyed it, but carried a lot home with her. The fifth person in our group had the Reuben sandwich. She said it was delicious, but was put off by the amount of fat on the meat. Encore makes their own pastrami. The chef explained to her that the fat on the pastrami was what most people thought made it such a delicious meat. I know it looked great to me. The flavor was delicious and the pork was super tender, I just prefer my animal fat to have more crunch. 8/10 *Chocolate cake - again, this came with high recommendation from Celeste, and I'm so glad we listened to her. This was such a light chocolate cake, and it was not too sweet. It had a whipped filling and a ganache topping. It was nostalgic, took me back to the 90s when I used to live off of Swiss rolls all summer. 10/10 *Old-fashioned- for nine dollars, this is truly one of the most amazing old-fashioned I've ever had. The flavor is perfect and it is really strong, I had mine made with bourbon, but you could also go with rye. With all of that, our total bill was $103 before tip. Truly cannot beat that with the quality of food, amazing service, and beautiful ambience. And thank you to Julian, one of the managers that came out to check on us and make sure that we were enjoying our experience. We absolutely did, thank you!
