The absolute worst service! I walk into the restaurant, and there is only another couple there and myself. I take a seat at the bar and immediately I am asked my drink option. Then, after handing making my drink, she just walked away and never saw her again. I was hungry and wanted to order some food and was really waiting to see what she would recommend. Two of her girlfriends come in and they start chopping it up in the corner. I get it it's right after the holidays and I'm sure she had, some bad experience during that time as people can be rude to those in the service industry. But there's no excuse to be complaining about it at work and then not even come by and ask if I would like anything off the menu. Another lady walks in sits right next to me, and she gets offered not only a drink immediately, but also asked if there's anything she would like off the menu. Came here twice, once for breakfast and the other for a quick lunch and was disappointed both times. I ordered an almond milk cappuccino that was served cold. For lunch I ordered a Dallas salad with grilled shrimp. I was told it would take 15mins and I ended up waiting for 30. The shrimp was cold and the salad was bland. Incredibly overpriced. $60 for 4 drinks. One small breakfast omelet and side of hash browns was $16. I will say that the drinks were strong and the atmosphere was nice. I didn't get the chance to try their dinner items, but the food was relatively good! Nothing spectacular, but the hash browns were tasty! Went here on 8/27/16 with my inlaws for brunch. My local inlaws wanted to try this place out so Brian P. & I drove from Hotel Zaza to meet them here. The place was dead at 11 am. Only one other table was occupied in the place. Brian and I sat down and waited for his parents to park (we valeted, and this place does validate parking for you.) Service is so slow. We had to flag someone down just so we could order. Waited nearly 40 minutes for 2 steak & egg entrees, a lobster omelet and shrimp and grits. During that time, we had to ask for refills of water for our tea and ice water. If the place is dead, there's no excuse that we need to be looking around for refills for our bone dry glasses. My steak and sunny side up eggs was $18. I didn't want potaoes, so it was an additional $3 charge to substitute berries. My one tea bag with 2 cups of hot water was $4.50. Unfortunately the whites of my eggs were still clear and raw. Steak was fine, nothing to write home about. Be warned, the $25 shrimp and grits only had 6 shrimp & the $16 lobster omelet looked chintsy on the lobster. Their prices aren't justified for forgettable food and non existent service. While it wasn't terrible, I wouldn't eat here again. If you're staying in the adjacent hotel, I'd choose any of the zillion restaurants over this one. read more

I haven't been here in a few years (could hv sworn I wrote a review but don't see it...here's another). Used to come for lunch/dinner after shopping. The foie gras, quail egg appetizer was my fav. Along with the Scottish salmon and beef tongue...so goodt! Felt nostalgic and decided to drop in for breakfast. My daughter had the Belgian waffle with vanilla bean whip cream. She said it was "weird the waffle was crunchy outside but really soft on the inside". I told her that was called SKILLS! The vanilla bean whip cream put it over the top. The bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy too. I ordered the lobster omelette with home fries. The potatoes were cooked just right...a Lil crispy like I like them and I didn't have to ask. The omelette could hv had MORE main lobster inside but I enjoyed it either way. I think my craving is back. I shall return next week for something new. I have eaten here probably five times. I've never left thinking "I can't wait to come back," or "I need to tell people about this place," or even "Next time I'm going to order..." I want it to be good. It is a beautiful space. The menu sounds interesting. But the food is uninspired and just doesn't deliver. Here are my second thoughts on The Second Floor 1. Don't try to get clever with a Caesar salad...you just screw it up...don't serve the romaine leaves whole 2. Wow that was an expensive and unimpressive burger 3. Gee, these portions are small, but it works out okay because the food isn't very good Service is adequate. I decided to stop by here for a night cap only, so I can't comment on their food. However, I ordered an old fashioned (with Maker's Mark) from here and found it to be just average, even though they charged me $14 for it. The presentation wasn't great (they used regular ice vs. an ice ball and then gave me a straw with it). And too much cherry was used and my drink ended up having a cloudy, pinkish appearance - almost like a bloody mary. I give it a 3/5. The interior design though was very chic and modern. If you are a big whiskey and scotch drinker. I highly recommend this place! They have a good variety of whiskey and scotch. I had the adult grilled cheese to munch with fries. It had brie, red onion, and arugula. It was good. Service was good and the ambiance was good for an intimate dinner unless there's a loud group of people watching sports game on the tvs. We sat at the bar right infant of the big tv and it was great! The place is hard to find coming from the mall but its right behind Rocky Mountain and Corner Bakery on third floor across from Macys. Parking is valet and I would recommend parking at Macys then walk over. read more

It's Mothers Day! We had reservations for 8:45am . Walked up and the restaurant is 100% empty. A sign on the Hostess area said " Set yourself" odd It's Mothers Day. We sat down and waited for 5 mins. I got up and stuck my head around the corner to say we are here. When the waiter came up he told us that the back tables are blocked off for Mothers Day. Let me say it again It so Mother's Day at 8:45am. The manger came out, Gabby, and said that the nice area in the back with white table clothes is for the Mother's Day brunch. When I called earlier in the week, I was told that you could order either menu or Brunch. Gabby said we had to move . She should be fired! She could have allowed us to stay, eat and be out in an hour and reset the table. Once again there was nobody in the restaurant! I hope executive Chef David Smith reads this post. Our family eats out at top restaurants all over Dallas and would Highly recommend not going to the restaurant. Thanks for a great MotherDay experience! We were mistaken The space is loud and bright off of a busy lobby area That's on us for not checking it out ahead of time. The Second Floor was a surprise. It's hidden literally on the second floor of the Westin, and is just at the top of the escalators as you walk into the front doors. There is also access from Galleria Mall near Corner Bakery. We've been here a few times, and have always been impressed with the food. The foie gras isn't the best foie gras in town, but the pork belly appetizer is a must try. As for entrees, you really can't go wrong with any of the choices - we've tried them all! My absolute favorite drink from the bar is the Dallas Parkway Cocktail without the sugar rim. It's girly but not too sweet where your teeth start stinging, and I crave this many weeks! read more

I like this place! If you don't know, I love brunch. So we came for Sunday brunch. 2ndFB is located in the Galleria Mall's Westin Hotel. As you can imagine parking can be a hassle- but don't fret. Pull up to the front of the hotel's valet area. There is complimentary valet parking for restaurant eaters. First off, the ambiance is nice. You should expect that in the Galleria. The restaurant/bar is clean and sleek with neutral colors. It's private- on the second floor so not a lot of traffic,and they have curtains that obstruct the outside view-leading you to really focus on being inside. Food- Brioche French Toast & Steak & Eggs- were both amazing. I added on the Chicken Apple Sausage and it's wonderful- fresh and juicy. Portion size is good and prices are reasonable considering you're eating in the Galleria. What didn't I like- they have no Brunch drink specials- Mimosas are $8. We came here to celebrate my mom's birthday, and was pleasantly surprised. There was a football game going on that day, so the fans were rowdy (as expected from a hotel bar). The ambiance is kind of strange here because it's a hotel bar..but also a restaurant without a dividing wall.. but also attached to galleria mall. Our server was awesome. I forgot his name- a middle aged man. He apologised several times for the customers. I expected the food to be mediocre because of the environment and lack of customers, but I think this is a place where it's lacking the volume of people, furthermore leading to understaffed waiters and maybe chefs. That's where I dock a star, because the food took so long to come. However, our waiter still made it a pleasant experience for the event! I was most impressed by the fish special! They really put in the work to make it crispy on the outside, but soft and flavourful on the inside. Our beef and mussels were also notable, along with the daily soup! I was pleasantly surprised by the second floor. I think they might have a travel zoo deal going on- worth checking out! read more

Had drinks with a friend here after a grueling 4 hour long job interview. I can't speak to the food, but the drink service and quality were both very good. My friend's rum and Coke was well made and my Amstel Light was properly chilled. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. Decor is elegant but not over the top, and the location on the second floor is a nice space, but curtains and a walkway diminish the outside view a bit. Noise level was moderate but not too loud. The only downside that we encountered: While the restaurant will validate your valet parking pass, it doesn't cover the entire cost. You're still on the hook for seven dollars or so; pretty uncool IMO. Overall, it's a little spendy, but a nice place. I'd like to try the food sometime; the happy hour menu looked very good. read more

I learned about The Second Floor from a friend of mine who is also a major fan of whiskey/bourbon/rye and I am pretty much depressed that I didn't know about this earlier. Their selection is out of this world, and you can try a bunch of different kinds. I recommend talking to their bartenders (who are actually trained really well) and discuss which brands you already like and let them make suggestions. This doesn't come at a small price, you're looking at an average of $12 - $15 a drink, sometimes more if you get a nicer whiskey, but it's really worth it! Drink it straight, or have one of the BEST old fashioneds you will find in DFW. Hand muddled with real sugar cubes, orange peel, and a delicious italian cherry. I absolutely love it here for the drinks alone, but there's even more to it. They have very tasty snacks too, I'd recommend the calamari and the fries (done shoe string style with some very good seasoning). If you can catch these on happy hour prices they're awesome! It is on the second floor of the Westin Hotel attached to the Galleria and it's the perfect place for a business meeting, a date night, or a quiet meeting with friends. You don't have to dress up, a lot of people come by who are staying in the hotel, but if you show up in sweatpants you're going to feel under-dressed, fair warning! This is not where you go to celebrate or party, it's just where you go for a nice night and I promise you'll enjoy it!! read more

One of the coolest hotel bars one could ask for. I'm a bourbon snob, and I was immediately in a giddy state of euphoria when I sat down at the bar. A Basil Haydens rocks glass was in order. For $12 bucks, sure it was kinda' steep, but what the hell are people complaining about; IT IS A HOTEL BAR, PEOPLE! Also, for the $12 bucks, I will note- the pour was very generous, so probably the equivalent of what an $8 drink would be. (Bourbon math) As far as the ambience, it's trendy, and the clientele (Westin biz travelers) matched. Several older men desperately trying to hook up with the female travelers. Tired, and bored with watching the married guys strike out, I opted to get a flatbread pizza to go. Once back in my filthy room, I devoured the pizza (John Kasich eating style),and damn was this one good pizza. Fresh jalapenos, and sausage, with a great tasting sauce. Yep, worth the price, even for a hotel restaurant / bar. Friendly service, great liquor selection, and a damn good pizza. I'll return, when in the Galleria area. read more

First impression: a little too rich for my blood. I'd need two more decades of life and two more digits on my bank statement to feel I belong here. I didn't come here to fit in, though... I came to get my malt on, and for that Second Floor is well equipped. The whisk(e)y selection is unrivaled in town, the prices not so much. Single malts are already expensive, the markups at bars are even more expensive, but to mark up your prices even further is excessive. A couple drinks here cost nearly as much as a full bottle from a liquor store, essentially a 700% mark up. But wait... There's still value to be found. They have over half a dozen scotch/bourbon flights for $30 or less. The pours, although obviously not full, are still very generous. You definitely get more for your money seeing as you get the variety plus 3 half pours for the price of (or even often less than the price of) a single of any of those same whiskies. Also Happy Hour (4-6 M-F) is also an extreme steal for both food and drink with multiple options for $5 or less. And it seems like the average patron is aware of this based on the packed-to-empty transition that seems to happen nearly instantaneously at 6pm. A small but trendy space with helpful staff. I wouldn't drive out of my way to come here, but I'd definitely recommend it to anyone staying at the Westin or in need a of a shopping break at the Galleria around Happy Hour. read more

First time dining here was for a small breakfast meeting. We were seated at a table in the front of the restaurant near the bar but for an early meeting it was fine. Clean, simple and quiet dining room with tables spaced out. The menu isn't large or unique but the salmon tacos I ordered were fantastic and made this a 4 star experience. Three small corn tortillas (think street tacos) with scrambled egg whites (substituted for whole eggs) were served with melted cheese, big slices of avocado, fresh lime wedges and small morsels of salmon. Yummy. I was expecting more salmon but I still enjoyed it. I wasn't able to pick up the whole taco without making a mess. Definitely a fork meal but still worth it. I would order this again. Service was pleasant and efficient. We were in and out in less than an hour. read more

Dining at a hotel has always been an anethma to me. I know, there are some fantastic restaurants located in hotels, but my culinary adventures lean towards the free-standing hidden gems and hole in the walls. So when I heard about a great restaurant/bar at the Westin Galleria, I thought - "Great, it's in a hotel AND in a mall" - even worse. I've never quite figured out the underground maze of Galleria's parking garages. I almost felt like crying as I walked through the garage and through the mall to eat a meal - it just felt so wrong. Second Floor Bistro is easily accessible via the second level of the mall by Corner Bakery. The restaurant itself is small-ish and modern looking with glass encased walls. There's a nice lounge area with a fireplace that would be even cooler if you weren't looking into the second floor lobby of the hotel. Clientele seemed mostly hotel guests and the occasional stray like myself. I ended up grabbing a glass of wine at the bar from a bartender who was very professional. He knew I was dining alone that night so he made sure to keep me company while providing enough personal space. When he handed me my menu, my eyes glazed over as I saw a short rib pizza with agave and cheese. Short rib is one of my great loves and I have never turned it down. Oh my. I know my pizza and this was fantastic. Crust had a slightly sweet taste that teased the tongue. The contrast of the shredded short ribs on the agave was stellar. A very inventive dish that has been hard to forget. Out of principle, I probably won't visit Second Floor very often. However, if you're ever nearby the Galleria or you're struggling to choose between Mi Cocina (yawn) and Grand Luxe (double yawn) and you're not thrilled with either, go with the better alternative - go to the Second Floor Bistro. read more

I first learned of The Second Floor in 2005-2006 and had to check it out. I recall during my first visit being surprised that I had never heard of or noticed it before. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the Westin Hotel Galleria and is easily accessible through the mall or from the street. Parking in the area can be tricky so they offer free valet. During most of my visits the restaurant has been nearly empty and THAT is why I love it so much. I feel like it's an unknown jewel sitting in the heart of the city. While everyone else is waiting for an hour to get a table at the other popular restaurants in the mall, I can walk into The Second Floor on any day and have great drinks and dinner in the time it takes them to get a table. The menu is Americana (fish, pork, beef) and the beverage menu is extensive. I always start with their cheese plate and I've tried the salmon, scallop salad (no longer on the menu), and steak. The service has always been excellent and on a few occasions I've sat at the bar and chatted with the staff (several of them have been there for years). There is also a small seating area with a fireplace (usually turned on in the winter) where I've enjoyed long conversations and drinks with friends and dates. The location at the intersection of 635 and Dallas North Toll make it ideal for meeting up with friends who live in other parts of the city, the service is great, the food and drinks are good and it's off the radar. You wouldn't expect a hotel restaurant - even one at a Westin - to be such a fine place. At least I didn't. The Second Floor Bistro made me a fan. It has a modern decor that does not seem pretentious or out of place. It suited the room quite well, and complimented the food presentation and atmosphere. The seats were comfortable and the table sizes were good. On to the food... oh my, the food. Quite possibly some of the richest, tastiest, exquisite food I have had in a long time. For me there are two types of food - the kind that 'fills the hole' and the kind that makes your taste buds cry with joy and your tummy do a major happy dance. This place has both. You leave satisfied on so many levels. We sampled practically every appetizer on the menu. The foie gras was prepared so that it had a light crust on the outside, and the perfect interior. This stuff was a tastegasm. If you like foie gras, then you'd best try it here. The crab crepe was also superb, just like another reviewer described. For my entree I had duck confit ravioli, and wow was that simply fantastic. Five generously sized raviolis with a delicious sauce that didn't feel heavy at all. I was feeling like I would need to be rolled out of there after all that, but we also managed to sample a few desserts as well. The sorbets do rotate, and we had three different flavors than a previous review. I don't recall two, but the third was a berry flavor with gel cubes of a liqueur. Heavenly. Prices are not outrageous, either. For what we ordered, I expected to be hit with a massive bill. I can easily say that you could have a single appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert with wine for under $70. Go. Go now! read more

The crab soup was made with crab meat boiled in shell, then the crab whisked away and turned into a single fritter. My friend said it tasted like how the dumpsters smell at a pier, just terrible. I had corn and crab chowder. It wasn't great, but it was mostly edible. We shared a pizza. The exotic peppers were indeed far too spicy, even if we asked if they were hot and should be omitted. Stupid seeds. They were hot. Then, the waiter took away my friend's water glass and never brought it back. When she mentioned that he'd taken it away (while we ate spicy pizza), he gave her a look that suggests that he buys his dope from the soup guys. We skipped dessert. Nothing looked good. You should probably just skip this place, it has terrible service, a weird setup, and is oddly undersized for serving a jumbo hotel. No one offered to seat us. We were just waived in the direction of the tables. If you wanted to stand around in the front half and drink a cocktail, they could probably do that just fine. read more

I assumed that it would be tiny portions and the best i would be able to hope for was something unique--- But, I bought a TravelZoo voucher for this place just to try it out and I have to say I was very impressed. Atmosphere-- small cozy but modern Service -- We had a very cute waiter she said she had been there about a year and knew the menu made some great recommendations and even had one of the chef's come out to tell us about the sauce for the rib eye -- very cool to see who made our food. 1st Rave Factor -- They have a wine list with all 20$ bottles selected from their Sommelier Gina -- we picked the Natura Malbec from Chile and wow it was a great wind particularly for the price. Appetizers: We had the Tuna Tare tare and wow... they were fantastic... you get 3 little tacos with the tuna in them and a generous schemer of guacamole but not a typical guacamole -- We also had the Thai Style Calamari that too was fantastic... in fact the best i have had anywhere. Main Course: Since we were trying to get the full value from our voucher we got the Rib Eye and the Filet -- (I almost never buy a steak at a restaurant for numerous reasons) Other things on the menu looked great like the Halibut -- The steaks were fantastic cuts of meat and cooked to perfection. The Rib Eye came with a steak sauce they make in house very good and unique we did not really know what it was when it came out and without thinking just put it on the steak -- in hind sight I would not recommend that and in stead just dip so you have a chance to taste the steak without the sauce... The filet came with a crab topping and sauce Bearnaise all very good (the Bearnaise was unusually light and was perfect to let the steak shine) but again in hind site i would have pulled the crab off and eaten it alone -- witch i did about half way through. The Chef that selected the meats that we had knew what he was doing... i love steak and cook it at home a lot he chose some great cuts that set his kitchen staff up for success all they had to do was cook it right and they did. We did get a desert -- flowerless chocolate cake with a raspberry sorbet on top it was a good ending to the meal All said and done... i will be back to eat at full price... i want to try the halibut. read more

It's a bit hidden, so you have to know that it's upstairs from the Westin entrance (if you're in the main area of the mall, it's behind the Rocky Mountain Chocolate company). Anyhoo, I've been here twice and everything has been great both times. The most recent time was since Joel Harloff took over as chef, and the quality was still great. The wines I've tried have been good and the scotch selection is vast. Awesome things we've tried: the cheese plate, the calamari salad, veal osso bucco, crispy golden tile with okra, butternut squash soup with lardons, duck confit pot pie, and a lemon cake dessert. All ridiculously good (especially the calamari and pot pie). AND, on Fridays they have an all-night happy hour of 1/2 price apps. So that calamari can be yours for like 6 bucks. They even have a foie gras appetizer that is eligible for the discount as well...where else can you get half price foie gras? Like I said, it is a bit expensive for a spur of the moment mall meal but honestly, I'd go to the Galleria specifically to eat here! To start off, I will say that I was here a month ago for a work meeting and had a delicious breakfast, which was why I wanted to come back. That time I split the almond flour pancakes and the spinach and cheddar omelette with someone. My husband and I came here for brunch today. His food was delicious. He had the Margherita pizza. I had the smoked salmon omelette. Don't get this. Just, don't. I don't normally leave bad reviews, but this was so terrible that two hours later I still feel nauseous. I only had one bite, but it was enough. The service was also poor. There was hardly anyone there, yet service was slow and I never got a refill on my coffee. This was the most over-priced, mediocre brunch I've ever spent $320 on for four people. Came here on Easter Sunday after church. I was immediately disappointed by the unoriginal hotel carpeting and airport bar decor. For the Easter buffet, the tables were set up outside of the restaurant in the fourier area which made the whole experience feel cheap. The food itself was fine, but nothing tasted great. They had a lot of variety in the spread from sushi to tortellini to a carving station, but it was really a jack of all trades master of none situation. Open Table had listed them as a good spot for Easter brunch, but I was sorely misdirected. Don't make the same mistake. read more

We went to 2nd floor for dinner on Christmas day. Overall the experience was disappointing. The service was very slow...perhaps they didn't expect many diners? The bread was good. We ordered the wilted spinach salad. It came with an entire bag of spinach, in a warm plate, but not exactly wilted. The flavors were a little strange and didn't really work together. My husband's steak was undercooked. My scallops weren't bad but nothing to write home about. We skipped dessert. read more

I can only comment on the breakfast, but it was absolutely delicious. I had the crabcake Benedict, my husband and children opted for pancakes and it was delicious. It was a little more expensive than I would have liked to spend for breakfast, but it was located in the hotel we were at and the reviews here were great. Being that it is Dallas there are cheaper options, but on food alone, this place was great. The price however was a little off putting If you are staying at the westin, this place is great, the menu appeared to have some great options. Just be prepared to spend close to $90 for a family of four for breakfast. read more

This was our first attempt to find a good whiskey bar in Dallas. The selection here is really outstanding, but the prices are as high as can be, twice what they are in other places. We each did a flight, my husband did the rye mash (he was very pleased) and I did the scotch 101. The 3 scotches listed online were not what were in the list in the actual restaurant. The prices for the flights, again, were high, but the presentation was excellent. We decided to eat, and split the cheese and meat board (which wasn't very good, especially for the price) and the pork belly cubes (which were excellent, but the portion was tiny) We also had the NY strip, which was very good, and actually not that expensive for the quality of the dining experience. But really the other customers were the worst. Very loud and obnoxious, acting like frat boys who never grew up. Which isn't all that surprising, since they seem like they are all wealthy, intittled, middle aged, the kind of people who don't think about anyone else and probably never have. What a great way to end the week. My roomie, a buddy, and I had dinner at The Second Floor Bistro inside the Westin Hotel for restaurant week. We literally ordered the entire menu. Everything tasted great and the wine pairings with each course was perfect. May I add, writing a review when you're a bit tipsy may be quite a challenge... From what I can remember, I had the duck fettuccine as an appetizer and for some reason I had trouble finding the duck in the appetizer. As the main course I had a grilled chicken dish which was very tender and moist. For dessert I had an interesting coffee scone dish accompanied by a shot of what tasted like coffee and rum. Definitely a good choice. The ambiance was of a modern decor and the service was very courteous. I would like to go back and have drinks in the lounge area in the near future. read more
