I was impressed with the class and finish of the restaurant as a whole. A bit tucked behind an obscure area of the Galleria, but definitely worth the walk out of the way of your shopping to check out. Options include an appetizer section that could easily pass as a light meal, a cheap, but gourmet, burger section, and a selection of finer/heavier meals/entrees. The friend that I dined with had the skate wing sandwich served on flatbread rather than a simple bun (different take on a simple sandwich, right?). He also had a corn soup that offered corn mushrooms, a new ingredient being incorporated into menus. Excellent choices for a unique/filling dinner. His only came out to $15. I had the chacuterie plate with 3 meats of house-cured sausage laced with black truffle, 2 slices of layered duck confit, and I believe venison? Skimpy and fairly ordinary for a $15 plate. As my entree, I ordered another item off of the appetizer menu, a crab crepe. Extremely rich, but light. Crab was very natural tasting and the crepe was perfectly light with a nice heavy bechamel on the inside. I'm a sucker for cream sauced crepes. Served with a somewhat mediocre fennel salad and a sour bloody mary sorbet. Both slight disappointments were easily covered up by the amazing crab topped crepe. read more

Just had dinner here and can't say I was too impressed. I was definitely expecting more out of a restaurant from a Westin hotel. Let's start off with a couple of positives. The service was good, attentive and professional. The space is a cross between modern and a bit fine dining. However the food is a miss. I ordered a cantaloupe carpaccio salad which was okay. It is not hard to mess this up as it was just greens and cantaloupe. For entree I ordered the roasted duck breast with greens and duck confit fried rice. This dish was way too salty. Not sure what kind of rice they used but it was hard, not very fried rice like. It was overly salty with soy sauce. The duck itself was also overly salty but well cooked. The greens that came on the side was either overly cooked or not very fresh. We skipped the dessert as it didn't interest either of us. If the restaurant is reading this, the staff did ask me how my food was but since I was in a dinner meeting I didn't want to be too picky and complain so I opted not to say anything. read more

The Second Floor is a nice quiet place nestled in the Westin Galleria Hotel. My wife and I went for lunch yesterday. Got there at 11 to beat the lunch crowd. Only one other table was occupied. We had wine and ordered in about ten minutes. A conference in the hotel had just broken for lunch and 6-8 tables filled up fast. Sadly there was ONE waitperson for the entire restaurant. She did her best but service was sadly lacking everywhere. Our food came out cold - not surprising since it sat in the back while she waited on the entire dining room. The manager tried to help, as well as the hostess who seated people - everyone kicked in to get food delivered but it just didn't work. Expensive appetizers, expensive entrees for lunch. Our bill was a hundred bucks which included the least expensive Chardonnay on the menu ($40!!!) Food was not great, besides being cold. Wife had turkey sandwich which was dry and bland. I had oysters in cornmeal appetizer (not bad) and what was called a chicken lettuce wrap. I envisioned the lettuce wraps you get in a Chinese restaurant, with the chicken inside. This was cubes of chicken and mango on Bibb lettuce -not conducive to a 'wrap' at all. It was a salad. And it was $14. Plenty of good places to eat in Dallas. This unfortunately is not one of them. I got the salmon breakfast tacos. The tortillas were dry. Seasoning was OK. Service was a bit on the slow side (though not excessively so). Fiancée ordered eggs Benedict. Eggs were a bit overcooked and hollandaise was quite thin. The Canadian bacon was not of very good quality, and lastly the skillet potatoes would have been great except they were too salty for my taste. read more

This place has a TON of potential. The drinks, food, and ambiance are all great; however, the staff, not so much. There seemed to be more people standing around than tending to patrons. They also made it very clear that it was not yet midnight, and therefore not time to leave. Not fun to hear when you're traveling and just want to have a few beers and a burger. Advice to management: be smarter about your hires. You want people that WANT to be there working, and are passionate about customer service. I'll bet you $(name your price) that this place could be a 4-5star spot on Yelp with the right staff. read more

I have eaten there at least 5 times over the last 2 years. I really like how adventures they get. Once in a while its a miss with some dishes but most of the time the appetizers and main course are simply fantastic. When you offer a Foie Gras ice-cream ( no longer available) or a brownie with bacon... you will find some unsatisfied souls. Personally.... 2nd Floor was the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at in 40 years dining in Dallas. The facts: 1) It was Valentine's Day so we arrived early to enjoy a drink at the bar. My date and I ordered the Cucumber Martini, the alleged house specialty. They were too sweet for me so I ordered my date another and I ordered a martini up with olives. I was served a martini with cucumber. The second Cucumber martini was NOTHING like the first and remember this is their "signature drink". I sent it back explaining to the bartender this was nothing like the first one we ordered. He said, "Well, I didn't make it" so he made another. Again, it was nothing like the first. 2) We were then seated at the table. My date ordered the butternut squash soup and I ordered the cider poached foie gras torchon I had seen on their website. It DOES NOT exist. They substituted some other version of foie gras. 3) Then I ordered the Hanger Steak "En Croute" from the menu and as seen on the website. The waitress said they were out of hanger steak. I challenged back "It is 7:30pm. You are not out of hanger steak. You never had it in the house. So why is it on the menu?" No response. 4) After dessert I ordered a cappuccino. It arrived with no sugar offered. I eat at the best restaurants in Dallas and was eager to visit the 2nd Floor after reading the reviews on this site. What a load of BS. I will NEVER visit the 2nd Floor again and neither should you. I would honest to God recommend The Sizzler over this hole. The fact their website still has Christmas and New Year's specials should have been my first clue. My wife and I have been going to the Second Floor for some time and we are never disappointed. The food is great and very imaginative. Even better is the bar for cocktails, You can have the usual...vodka martini, etc. but you will find no better place for a well crafted cocktail if you are more adventurous. Try an Aviation, Last word or Corpse Reviver. You will find that Jose and Seth behind the bar can make just about any cocktail you would like as well as a number of their own creation. They also have an amazing array of scotches if that is your interest. We recently had a birthday party in the adjacent private room. They did an amazing job with food, beverages and ambiance. It was perfect in every detail and our guests uniformly praised all of the arrangements. read more

Wow, this place is a pleasant surprise, located in a hotel and a mall, you don't expect much. This place really shines though, had the Foie Gras followed by the Ahi Tuna, both excellent!!! The wine list was also quite good... Service was excellent sitting at the bar. read more

Wonderful signature cocktails. The Cucumber Sip is refreshing and delicious. The Dallas Parkway is sweet and devine.

We just had Christmas lunch at the 2nd Floor. We had a great waitress who was very attentive to our needs and very helpful in navigating the menu and making sure our drinks were satisfactory. We had the pizza with boar,venison, and duck as toppings, and it was nice, a different twist to pizza. Oh, the stuffed eggs appetizer with bacon were very tasty. The atmosphere was conducive to enjoyable conversation - not too loud but warm and inviting. All in all it was an enjoyable time for all. read more

Kudos to the Chef! At our large table everyone enjoyed well crafted soups, salads, entrees and desserts. Truly, every dish was creative and tasty. It is a shame though that the restaurant is run like a common mid-level hotel lobby restaurant rather than the upscale food service business it could be. Prices were reasonable for dinner but too high to come back regularly for lunch. Went there for Thanksgiving - was terrible. You expect to pay more (65.00 for adults) but you also expect more. They ran out of food ( the basics like dressing) so you were scraping the edges of the pan. Or you had to wait for other items to come back out - then stand in a long line to get to those items or cut in. I let other cut in for mashed potatoes??! but other folks gave the evil eye because they had to come back and stand in line to get items. The one item a dessert item there was one 1 left and the staff said they were popular so they would know so they could put out more for the next time block seating. When I looked at my account online noticed that they had charged me nearly 100.00 extra. I called the manager who said they have an old outdated system ( this is starwood hotel line) and so they charge and extra 20 % - which should be added back within 3 days - they already added gratuity to my check; so this and extra 20 % for ??? When I also mentioned that they ran out - he said I would have gotten you something if you asked. None of the staff offered and for that type of a charge you expect that the service will be good. read more
