Great facilities and well run. Really good classes and group activities (e.g. Pickleball nine times per week). They also have free child care for members at certain times. Center would be even better if child care times were more flexible for working families (open earlier and longer on weekends) and same with class timings (lots of 5-5:45am options and middle of the day, not so many 6-8:30 options) All in all great place and value for money read more

My recommendation is based entirely on my perspective of a working adult. Memberships are too expensive for the limited hours of operations. They should explore options that would allow working adults access outside their limited hours. Too little equipment. I've been a member for more than 10 years. The facility is nice. The staff are nice. I like that they are by the trail. But, it is intended more for folks who don't work during the day or children. If they ever expand their hours, I would recommend them. read more

Free Weights & Exercise Machine Room - Equipment is getting old, Room is very musty smell. Needs to be updated 2 Pools - Not managed very well, cannot attract and retain guards. Lots of pool issues in past 1 year from no pump to no heat to no guards. Need management overhaul. Seems to be de-emphasizing swimming thus members are NOT happy - Indoor Pool: Closed on Sundays saying outdoor pool is open till temp is above 45 degrees! Who wants to swim outside below 65 degrees unless you are masters or below age 50. Classes - Generally good and well managed. Overall rating of 3 is average due to classes being above average, and pool being poor rating. read more

I used to like this location, but it is so crowded, and the parking lot is usually maxed out. This morning set me off because I worked out later than usual (9am) and my goodness, it's Summer and the parking lot was insane as well as Moms with many kids that wouldn't even make eye contact with drivers. Glad they are getting their money's worth from a family membership that I subsidize with my sky high senior rate. Then discovered that three possible parking spots were taken with drivers who parked right down the middle so no one could park next to them! By the time I made it to the workout room, it was also jam packed. Just because it's juneteeth??? I'm done with that location because it's only redeeming value was pickleball. The senior group that plays in the morning is so mean about newcomers, that's also a no. Snobby members and too many "Alterkockers" eating donuts and hanging in the gathering area. Icky vibes. I won't give away my preferred locations because then they would get too crowded. Semones even with its beautification has too many problems for me. read more

I went on a tour of this facility after one of the moms in my mom's group recommended it. The young girl helping us at the front desk was very nice, but the facility is pretty old and seemed ran down. I've been to different YMCA facilities and I think this one definitely needs a update! I've been a participant of YMCAs all around the country. I've just moved to Dallas and I wanted my children to learn how to swim. They've done some updating to the main areas, which is great, but it doesn't change the fact that the gym-area is too crowded. There aren't enough of the popular weight machines, there isn't enough room in the free weight area, and they've become lax on keeping sanitizing wipes in the workout area, hand sanitizing dispensers filled. I noticed today that they have not put them back in the newly updated areas, either. The class that I loved and faithfully attended every Saturday morning prior to the pandemic has never returned. Suddenly, all the reasons I joined this place are disappearing. I just got back from a visit to small town Wichita, Kansas, and the YMCA I worked out at was 10 times better than what we have in this neighborhood. read more

Too bad we're paying almost $100 a month for two people and have not been able to swim on the two days we wanted to go the last couple weeks because of "pool closed due to poop in the pool". When we visit our family in Dallas, we love going to this Y! The facilities are spacious, clean, and varied. Lots of choices as far as programs and ways to work out. There is an indoor pool and a huge outdoor one as well. It gets really crowded in the summertime and for good reason. There is plenty of staff too. When we had little ones, we appreciated how friendly and clean the childcare was. If you're not a member of a gym and need a family-friendly place to grow and work out, look no further. read more

We use Semones Family YMCA mostly for the pool and kids swimming classes. We love their swimming program. My kids learned to swim here. I also had a few private swimming classes. At this Y there are also ton of kids clubs and adult classes, reasonable gym, good child care and an amazing community spirit. I always participate in their annual Turkey trot over Thanksgiving! Clearly, we love this place :-) read more

New workout area recently renovated so it added lots of space to a previously cramped cardio area. The cardio area is very large now & the first thing you see when you walk in this location. The outdoor pool and spray garden were also redone in the last year or 2. This location offers a variety of sports and they start kids soccer at age 3. One of the few locations in the area to do that. I only wish they were open later & I could justify keeping this membership rather then a stand alone gym membership. I still enjoy the facilities and they also offer great swim classes and summer camps. The swim instructors are always very friendly and seem very willing to go the extra mile and make each child feel great in that setting. read more

Stepping into this building is like stepping into the 1940s. I'm a young black man and from the moment I stepped into the building, people would watch me like I was going to steal or hurt them in some way, racist comments were made about me and my "dark" appearance, and after I retorted with the same disrespect I received, I was asked to leave. Facility is also dirty, and feral children are always running about. Also don't be fooled by the "tokens" at the front desks, they're for show. read more

DO NOT OVER PAY FOR THIS GYM! I joined this gym about a year ago and to be honest I am surprised I stayed here that long. COVID happened so when my gym closed down this was one of my few options so I went with it. So far most of the staff has been great but when you pay for a gym the staff does not matter if you don't have the right equipment or enough equipment. I would only recommend this gym to people looking for a place for their kids to hangout after school, as an adult this gym will not meet your fitness needs. Some of the equipment they have is not even allowed to be used by paying patrons only personal trainers in a session or if they just want to workout. I have never been to a gym where people who work there have their own room and equipment. Not even the $400 a month country club gym I went to before this had anything like that for their staff. I am sure the reason for their own space to workout is because they're already aware they don't have enough equipment in their gym for the amount of people who go here. If you are thinking about this place just go to 24 hr fitness, its half the price and has 4x the equipment this gym has. Honestly the only reason I gave this place a 2 star and not a 1 is because I like most of the staff here. read more

My husband and I are fans and family members of Richardson YMCA, in general. I'm a long time experienced certified fitness coach from Cooper Institute since 2008 and hold 2 pro cards in fitness bikini. That being said, after giving birth 3 months ago to our youngest(4th baby), I got back in the gym to loose 47lbs(postpartum). My girlfriend wanted to workout with me. So, I agreed to meet her at Town North YMCA (her house is near by)so we can workout together, a couple weeks ago. Katy Taylor, old looking morning gym manager with odd blonde hair, interrupted our workout & was completely rude to us. She said it looked like I was training my girlfriend& I wasn't allowed to help her workout. My girlfriend and I showed we were members..We told her we were just working out together(both of us covered in sweat) in a small corner of the gym...but Katy Taylor continued to talk down to us,interrupt us & told us to "tone it down" if I was going to help my girlfriend workout... and I am not allowed to get my girlfriend's dumbbells., Even though their was a guy spotting his pal right behind her. Katy Taylor continued to chastise me about not being a employee of YMCA, nor covered under their insurance.. and implied I was dumb, without asking me of my gym knowledge or experience. My girlfriend and I stood there quietly until she finished rambling about her rules. (we checked.. no rules prohibiting friends working out together or getting each other's dumbbells). I find this facility to be ok.. but I would not recommend the gym location or the inexperienced gym staff. Out of professionalism, YMCA corporation should retrain their gym managers and check their attitudes. As far as presentation of their trainers, they need to look the part ( not boney, skinny fat or over weight) and act the part. It would probably help their trainer's revenue. We didn't see one gym staff member in shape. Not one. They all walked around with a clip board for training guidance and kept their clients to machine weights and little barbell training. They all did the same exact thing, with their clients. I can see why my girlfriend asked to workout with me. Yes, YMCA and Katy Taylor, we(members) are allowed to workout together, wether it be friends, family or spouses. And we(members) have the right to workout without being terrorized or bullied because we are not wasting our money on particular trainers you have on staff. read more

I give this only 3 stars since the mens bathroom is dirty. Tile floors are old and urinal and toilet area smell like they shouldn't. The work out area is FREEZING and the management says that its controlled off site? Several folks are talking on cellphones and no enforcement. On the other hand, the equipment is nice and available. The neighborhood Y is good, but could be much better. This Y has both indoor and outdoor pools, a good quality 1/4 mile track and new work out facilities. The problem I have with this Y is the clientele! There are a lot of older people (think really old grandparents) who socialize here, which is great. However, some of them wear inappropriate attire when working out. Overweight old me jogging around the track while YMCA soccer games are going on. Overweight old women wearing spandex and jogging bras while working out. Not that I'm in super great shape, but I cover up! ha! read more

Best gym ever! When I first moved to Dallas I had no idea where to go and coming from Chicago where I had an awesome gym 3 Blocks from my condo and had everything anyone could ever need in one place. But I will tell you that when I discovered the YMCA Town North (which is about a 6 minute drive from door to door) and just loved it! It has everything you need for your entire family - outdoor pool, indoor pool, variety of new gym equipment, great classes, sports for children of all ages, free child care with the best people (my children love it) and just all around good people - great sense of community. Just go and take a tour, try it out for free for a week and you will fall in love like we have! read more

Individual TVs for their cardio machines makes working out less mundane. I enjoy my time more than I would just listening to music on my headphones. HOWEVER, their stations and channels get crossed sometimes which is uber frustrating. For instance sometimes, I will go to channel 8, and channel 11 will be showing. So, if I was planning watching The View during my workout then, I now have to watch VH1 or Pawn Stars or something. They need to work that out because it has happened more than once. I like that they seem to have personal trainers that appeal to multiple demographics, and they have A lot of options for classes, although I wish there was some method to the madness of class scheduling though I tend to go late morning. There seem to be a lot of older people who work out there, But that is to be expected because of the neighborhood. The staff has never been anything less than nice and friendly. I have been greeted by name upon arrival a few times prior to even swiping my badge. The locker room is smaller than I expected, but most probably work out then go home to shower, as do I. All around good hassle free place to exercise. read more

Awesome facility and activities for my summer camper. This year will unfortunately be his last since he is 13 yrs. old but has had great experiences so far. The workers are super nice and keep my teen occupied and feeling important among all the other little youngsters by assigning him leadership roles, etc. I wish we lived close to this facility so that we can take full advantage of the other activities, like their gym and pool! read more

Also known as Town North Y.M.C.A., this facility is pretty nice. We have a family membership and I think it's like $75/month, something like that, but they are very generous about who "family" is, since they count our nanny and even her two kids in the mix! Great workout facility for the adults! Tons of tredmills - I've never had to wait for one! Rowing machines, step masters. It's really big! Plus, indoor and outdoor pools, play areas for the kids, daycare available for up to two hours while you work out, free coffee. Seriously, this place is deluxe! And since they open at 5:00 a.m., what IS my excuse for not going every morning? LAZY!! SWIM LESSONS FOR YOUR KIDS!! We started our son when he was 18 months! Minus one point for the locker room . . . kinda yucky! But what the heck? read more

This is a great facility with a wide range of workout equipment, classes, and facilities at an affordable price. Perhaps the only problem, though, is that there is a large membership base and some classes (Spin, Yoga) are very full or difficult to get into at peak hours. But if your schedule can accommodate some off-peak workout times, then the Town North YMCA is a great place. There is a large cardio room with rows of treadmills and elliptical machines. The one downside here, though, is that the TVs only get a few channels (ABC, ESPN, CNN, Fox News) and do not seem to get basics like NBC or CBS. That's very strange. The cardio equipment shares the main room with a good-sized space of weight equipment. There is an indoor and outdoor pool with a wide variety of ages, with a good number of master's swimmers down to children's swim lessons ($10/per lesson). There is also a large basketball court that is used for open gym (standard 5-on-5 games) to youth basketball leagues to large group cardio classes on Saturday mornings. They also offer free child care (up to 2 hours) for infants and up to older kids for busy parents looking for a quick workout. There are lots of great benefits and programs at the YMCA and they make good use of their space -- which is essential given the large number of members. read more

Pros - The YMCA has great folks working there (the nicest), good classes and friendly members. They also give back to the community. Here is what I have noticed that really has kept me from quitting my other club 1) Their machines (ellipticals, treadmills. etc) are always in need of repair and no one seems to be repairing them on a consistent basis. For an example, one of the ellipticals that I got on last night the volume did not work, or the other day a strange clicking on another one which could be fixed if someone was tending to them on a regular basis but they are not (in addition, I have had other instances where they do not work), think about this, they could test their machines daily while they are cleaning and sanitizing them (which makes me wonder if they clean and sanitize them daily?) and 2) The free weights are pretty basic for a gym that has not updated their free weights in 15 years, not sure why they do not invest in newer free weights and weight equipment. Do they really care about the repair of their equipment or is the money being spent on something else. read more

Nicest Y showers I've ever seen. Towels galore too! No locks to borrow for the locker room but it seems like a wealthy neighborhood, so not worried about theft. No sauna or steam room, but there is a hot whirl pool in he women's locker room. Equipment is fancy. Indoor and outdoor pool here. read more

I'm a visitor here and the staff just couldn't have been nicer. I called two separate times for information, and was treated professionally and my questions answered thoroughly. and respectfully. When I got to the facility, same thing. Awesome people, the members are super friendly. The instructors were great too. I will visit this Y again when I 'm in town. Loved it! I didn't go in the pool but it looks amazing. Swim test required if anyone younger than say, middle school age is in the deep end. A one star rating for this facility is uncalled for, sounds like Angela M. had a beef with a lifeguard or something, evidently there was a mistake made by a Y employee but that does not call for a one star rating. What a hassle to swim here. They wanted babies to wear wrist bands from cut up trash bags. Have you ever tried to make a baby wear something they don't want? My son was in a life jacket, and is a toddler and they insisted he have a swim test. What part of he doesn't know how to swim and thus is wearing a life jacket and clinging to me don't you understand. Plus, where are these rules posted? But poor communication whether it be via their Web site or on site is a hallmark of the area YMCA. read more

Ok gym but overcrowded and the childcare is very disappointing. The baby room is very small with not enough workers. My 21 month old was crying despite being in there several times before and after 5 minutes the worker came and got me out of a class (I was just in the warm up) and said she needed to go. I felt like they were over capacity and wanted to get rid of her. I asked if her 6 year old older sister could sit in the room with her, that would make the baby happy and they said NO. I had to leave without working out. read more

Family-friendly gym and an overall great place to workout. The biggest draw for me is the workout classes. They have something for everyone: from yoga to cycling to zumba to cardio muscle (my personal favorite!) you're sure to find something you like. It's pretty busy when I get there around 6pm on weekdays which is to be expected, but they have a lot of treadmills, elliptical machines and bikes so you don't have to wait long to get on a machine. read more
