I've dined at Senro in the past and I have a good experience. I also had take out before and had a good experience. I don't know what it is about this last time, but I had a mediocre experience with my last take out. I ordered a beef teriyaki for my wife and I also had a beef roll and a few other rolls. For this Pleasanton/Dublin area, Senro Sushi is great. Love it! I was really pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fish in the sashimi salad, it was so fresh and tasty. It had a generous portion of sashimi slices. I also had some unagi nigiri, which was crafted with a large portion of fish and small portion of rice, so I could eat it comfortably without stuffing myself. My second time eating here was not as great. The poke salad I ordered seemed extremely off-color, but I know this is not necessarily indicative of lack of freshness. The Ika Ika roll was interesting, squid was a but too chewy. The Carnival roll was good. The restaurant was spacious (which I am not used to, for a sushi restaurant), there were booth seats for more intimate gatherings and longer tables for group dinners. Ate here a few times. Food is alright. Not the best, but also not thw worst. You can definitely tell it is not owned by Japanese people. The tempura has a lot of thick batter coating the vegetables and shrimp. The chicken katsu is also cut the wrong way and makes it hard to eat. I am not a sushi snob but I can tell when it was way above average. This is exactly the case here at Senro. My small sashimi was very generously cut. Each slice of fish was twice the size of your average sushi joint. It was so large that I had to half it with my chop sticks. And the fish meat was so soft and delicate that I could cut it in half with great ease. My mango crunch roll featured really recognizable slices of mango and each roll had macadamia nut inside. I am not easily surprised and rather lazy when writing reviews. This one I felt compelled to write, well deserved! read more

Today I had the worst experience of my life. I ordered the beef bento box and I saw a piece of hair on it. I told the waiter and she gave an attitude. Good place for local sushi in the San Ramon area. After researching a bunch of places, we decided to check this place out. Conveniently located in a shopping center so parking is not an issue. We got there about 7pm on a Saturday night which at first we expected to be a long wait. We were glad to see the place was pretty packed and there was not long wait. Service was fast and the servers were attentive. I got the dynamite roll which I felt was good but a bit on the heavy side due to the sauce and the tempura batter on it. My bf got the 49er roll which was good but didn't care much for the lemon topping. We also shared the ecstasy roll which was really good because it had a variety of different rolls on it. read more

This location is Senro's newest. The original restaurant is in Pleasanton which we've visited regularly. Tonight, we decided to check out the new San Ramon locale. Absolutely fantastic sushi. The rolls and nigiri are beautifully crafted and so fresh. Really delicious. Big portions and so worth it. The Senro restaurants puts all the others in San Ramon to shame. I did not try the sushi. Service was decent but overall pretty slow for the amount of customers they had. The staff was very friendly. We got one roll and the roll was decent so no complaints there, but the chicken curry was just a mess. The curry tasted like powder curry you get from the super market, or one of those box curry packs. The chicken needed more preparation and still had the raw chicken taste. Best sushi in San Ramon!! The fish is incredibly high quality, comparable to some of the best sushi places in Tokyo. The sashimi portions are generous. The rolls are pretty good too, but the nigiri and sashimi are amazing. Also, The service here is excellent. We've been to other sushi places nearby and the servers have been rude and have "overlooked us" at times. This place always treats us equally. For a special treat, ask for chef recommendations, they go out of their way to do things extra nice for those orders in my experience. (I try to go at least once a week.) read more

It's with heavy heart that i alter my review. The first time we came here the planets were all aligned perfectly apparently. Service was excellent. Food was great and everything was fast and efficient. So we decided to keep coming in. But every time we have been here since has been disappointing. The wait staff is often slow and the right hand rarely knows what the left hand is doing and that's really not a good trait to have in this business. The food is still good but typically it comes lukewarm like it's been sitting out for a while. But the worst of it comes in the form of organization. We typically order sushi and an entree. Our sushi orders always come with huge time gaps in between so either my wife or i have to sit there and wait for the other person's food to arrive out of courtesy before eating. I've waited as long as 10 minutes before one of us got their order. One time i got my main entree before either of us got our sushi appetizers and the wait was so long, bordering 20 minutes, that once my wife's food finally made it to the table i had to demand they take my entree back and give me a fresh order because it had been sitting there so long it was cold. This is unacceptable. You need to time your meals out properly so you bring everyone their food on time and at the same time. Not bring things randomly as you can manage to get them made. Tonight my wife had to sit there with her sushi for 10 minutes waiting for me to get any food and i ordered a side of extra teriyaki sauce to go with my entree and that got brought to me almost immediately after ordering so it just sat there for like 20 minutes unused. Really disorganized. Sad to say i don't think we will be coming back in the near future. Which sucks because it's very close to home and the food really is great when it's hot and fresh and brought to you in the proper time frame. read more

Not good at all. This place is not a true Japanese restaurant. Im very disappointed with the food they served. They should call it Chinese food not Japanese but very friendly people. I ordered beef teriyaki and the beef was so tough that i had to sent it back. The worest beef teriyaki i ever had. How can you not make a good beef teriyaki unless they use really cheap beef. Which i believe they used the cheapest beef! Everything else was not very good as well, even the rice?! They didnt even use sushi rice, it looks like they just used short grain rice. Same offerings as the Pleasanton location without the crowds. I love the Hawaiian poke (mmm macadamian nuts...) Shelby rolls and any of their spicy rolls are awesome. We have gotten baked scallops and hand rolls too. I've never been disappointed by any sushi orders here. This restaurant is tucked into a corner of a strip mall that once was a Quiznos long ago. It definitely sees a lot more business than the sandwich shop did but I'm still worried that this place might close up eventually just because it's very hidden. If you love sushi, this place is great! It's not as fancy inside as yanagi - but it's also more affordable and I think their bento boxes are better here. read more

Service is sub par but the fish is so good it's 100% worth the unfriendly staff. I used to come here at least once a week when I worked in Bishop Ranch--they seat you quickly, will serve you quickly, and will get you out quickly. If you're looking for a casual, long-term lunch or dinner, I wouldn't expect that. It's hidden away near the Safeway so it's easy to miss, but they're always packed during lunch hours. I really wanted to like this place but honestly I don't see why it has so many stars. The food was only okay and the service was terrible. The real reason I'm writing, though, is because of the lack of information on their menu. The rolls have way more ingredients in/on them than what is listed on the menu. If you have a sensitivity to any kind of fish, sauce, or anything this isn't the place for you. I came with a friend who has a sensitivity to some fish products, and she literally couldn't eat any of her food because they put unagi sauce on one of the rolls and tobiko on both of them. The top of the menu states "some of the rolls may contain tobiko" which is how they get away with putting fish eggs on literally every roll, but I don't see why that wouldn't be listed in the description, and the other roll had no mention of unagi sauce whatsoever. This would have been dismissible had it not been for the way we were treated when we spoke to the manager Cathy Lee. When the first roll arrived, we told her that we didn't know it would come with tobiko and asked if we could have it without. She then proceeded to be extremely rude, took the roll back to the kitchen and did god knows what to it and took forever to bring a new one. The entire interaction with her was unpleasant, and for that reason I will not be coming back here. If I were you, I would only come here if my expectations were extremely low. Don't take the four stars to mean that this is a quality establishment. read more

My friend had an allergic reaction after the first bite and they were not willing to comp or even attempt to make the situation better instead they blamed it on my friend. Senro Sushi was perfect for lunch. The ShrimpTempura was lightly battered with a delicious Ponzu Dipping Sauce. The Sashimi Assortment was sliced nicely and very fresh. The Titantic Roll was so flavorful and the Cheesecake Dessert balanced out the savory and sweet flavors. We were looking for a local sushi place in the area, and Senro came up on Yelp for us. On a Sunday night, the place was half empty, but it was Easter. Between 5 people, we ordered the large sashimi (25 pieces), 2 negihamas, tempura appetizer, beef udon, hamachi kama, a Shelby roll (no sauce), and the L&A sashimi roll. All the fish was fresh, and tasted good. We had enough of the rolls left over for one more meal for 1 person. So, why the 3 stars? The service was a little slow, and the negihama was very strange to us. It's a very standard roll, usually with seaweed on the outside, rice, and then the yellowtail, with scallions. We order it at every sushi restaurant. However, here, we ended up with 2 rolls with rice on the outside, then seaweed, then the fish. It was very mushy, and not particularly appetizing to any of us. And to top it all off, the moment we walked into the restaurant we caught a strong whiff of a strange smell. At first I thought it was the smell of the bathroom, but my boyfriend claims it was the smell of wet mold. Either way, our dinner was paired with a strong, strange odor. read more
