Here's the verdict: Chirashi (5/5) - there were an assortment of tuna, sashimi, shrimp and egg. There was possibly hamachi but I couldn't tell in the car if it was. Everything was delicious with a huge portion of rice. I got pretty full so I only ate the rest of the sashimi, so I had plenty of rice leftover. Came with salad and miso soup Kobe nigiri (5/5) - first time trying kobe nigiri and it did not disappoint! hanging out for my date, and found this spot, since we want to try a little of everything,we ordered some most popular appetizers edamame, tempura, soft shell crab which are very good. For sushi we ordered the sushi and sashimi combo which comes with soup and salad already as well as 5nigiri & 6sashimi &ca roll. Came here before covid and the service was just ok, and now almost two years later, the service is even more slow! Expect to wait 40 plus min for entrees during an early dinner service on a weekday. Food is still decent and servers are very nice when they come around. Food: 1. Beef Yaki Udon {4/5 stars, $13.99} - Generous portion of stir fried noodles tossed in a sweet soy based sauce with onions. Good but overly greasy. 2. Tuna avocado roll {4/5 stars, $7.00} - 6 large rolls with tuna and avocado. It was good, but tuna was very tough. 3. Carnival roll {3/5 stars, $14.50} - Small roll with real crab, eel, and shrimp on it. It was just ok, shrimp was over cooked and barely had any eel on top. Service: Was seated right away which was good. But after that was sitting with my sister and took about 15 minutes to get water, and another 10 minutes to order. I'm not usually one who complains about bad service, so the fact that this experience made me want to write a review says a lot. TLDR: The food was subpar at best, and the service was absolutely nonexistent, below the bare minimum. If I could rate 0 stars, I would. 3/26/25 dining time 1 pm-2 pm My dad and I dined in on a Wednesday afternoon at 1pm (keep in mind they end lunch service at 2:30pm, so plenty of time). There were 4 other parties and 4-5 people working with 1 being a dedicated server and 1 floating between server and kitchen. We were seated, and everything was great until we got our food. We ordered the takoyaki appetizer and 2 bento boxes (1 tempura and beef teriyaki and the other is chicken katsu and tonkatsu) By this time, all parties except my party and one more cleared out. I can only comment on my portion of the food The teriyaki came with 6 balls, and they were absolutely not worth any money at all. To my knowledge, the outside should be soft but crispy; the ones we got were just hard on the outside, not crispy or soft, just hard. The inside had the smallest piece of octopus possible. I had 3 of them because I thought I just got a bad one, but after each one, I was just left with disappointment, so after the 3rd, I stopped looking. The inside was filled with an overwhelming amount of the batter (for lack of a better word) to make up for not including a normal piece of octopus. The bento boxes each came with salad, miso soup, and 4 pieces of California roll. The salad dressing was extremely watered down, so much so that when I got to the bottom of the bowl, I had to physically look inside the bowl to make sure the lettuce wasn't sitting in water. The miso soup was fine, a little bland but fine. I thought the California roll looked a little cheap as they don't include cucumber with theirs, only the crab and avocado. Maybe this is a common variation of California roll served in restaurants I just haven't realized, but most, if not all, of the California rolls I have encountered come with cucumber. The chicken katsu and tonkatsu were the best thing, which is saying a lot because they were subpar to say the least. The service: (For context, I myself work as a server in a regular restaurant, not a fancy place or anything like that) This is the most disappointing part. The service was absolutely nonexistent other than getting seated, our orders taken, paying the bill, and them saying thank you when we left. About 15 minutes into dining in, I had drank about half of my tea and placed my cup in clear view of the servers so they could see it and eventually refill it, they never did. We were never checked up on or given any service between putting our order in and after having to raise our hand to ask for the bill, other than a server setting down our food. After getting all our food, all service ceased to exist. At 1:45, after still not getting a refill, I had finished the rest of my tea and had to drink my miso soup if I was thirsty. My dad and I had been clearly done with our food for about 10 minutes at this point, and still no one checked in, refilled drinks, offered a box or a bill. At 1:50, my dad asked the male server for more tea, and he said "sure". Spoiler alert the tea never came for about 10 minutes, and we just left. At this time, another customer who looked like a regular had come and sat at the sushi bar. All the servers proceeded to talk it up with him and attention towards other customers truly went out the door. I had to raise my hand and ask for the bill. I don't know what my dad tipped however, I personally would have tipped 5% or less. read more

I have been going to Senro San Ramon for more years than I can remember. Last night I ordered my most favorite roll the Titanic. My first thought was the portion size looked smaller and it did not taste the same to me but the most disappointing part was the salmon on top was sliced so thin it basically fell apart. Came here on a Friday night since we were in the area, plus it was packed at Bishop Ranch. Food was decent, pretty much what you would expect from a whole in the wall sushi spot. The staff was very kind and attentive, and they brought out the food fairly quickly. Was very surprised by the portion size of the teriyaki salmon! The restaurant is on the smaller side, so I can imagine it can get pretty busy over the weekend. The photos and reviews looked okay, but not promising, so my expectations were not that high - even so, I was still kind of disappointed. I was intrigued by the Kani Kama nigiri and Snow Crab Leg nigiri, but when I inquired for more information about the difference between the 2, the employee was not that informative or knowledgeable about the difference. I ended up just ordering my usual - the sake maki and salmon nigiri. The restaurant was empty on my visit, so the food came out fairly quick. There was quite a lot of people working on a weeknight that was not too busy and since there were no other customers there at the time, I felt like all my eyes were on me and it made me feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable. read more

Updated review, after 4 years: The COVID19 situation has us ordering by Doordash most of the time. It may be a bit irrational on my part, but I've greatly limited consumption of salads, poke, and nigiri/sashimi over the past 9 months. I love sushi and will look forward to having it once the pandemic ends. Senro has been in San Ramon for a while and was always a solid place for cooked items and sushi. My current favorite is their make-your-own bento boxes where you can get 2 or 3 items plus miso soup, rice, and salad (which I discard). Recommendations for your bento: * Salmon Teriyaki and Saba Misoyaki are both solid, and good portion too - almost like a deck of cards. * Beef Teriyaki is actually thick and more steak-like which I like. Chicken Teriyaki was easy on the sauce which is a plus. * California Roll were decent, and technically this type of sushi is mostly cooked so I'll make an exception. You get six (!) good-sized pieces and the avocado tasted fresh. I also liked how the wasabi and ginger was arranged in a rose-pattern. * Gyoza: Note to self - these are the superior pan-fried versions and not the inferior, oily deep-fried ones. * Lastly, the free miso soup is good too with lots of seaweed and soft tofu. read more

Show Time [$13.95, 4.0 stars] -- Spicy tuna, macadamia, avocado top w/albacore, jalapeno, torch, creamy garlic & unagi sauce. Senro! What did you do? I've been coming here forever and have always enjoyed it. It was our go to sushi. This seems to have happened in the last few months. It's not the same. The menu is almost the same but not. We loved the garlic edamame and now we don't. It's too salty and too spicy. The baked scallops were under cooked. This is not supposed to be a raw food dish. The albacore was the same and they did give us three instead of two so that was nice. I'll still be going there but it's not the same. The waitress was adorable and I didn't recognize any of them. I think the sushi chef was the same but I don't think the person in charge of the hot food is. read more

Went to Senro last night only to find it had new owners. My wife ordered Teriyaki Beef and it was served extremely rare, inedible. The sushi rolls were very different than in the past. They were mushy and lacking in flavor and texture. The fish in the Chirashi I had didn't seem very fresh. The texture was somewhat slimy. The server offered to cook the Teriyaki further but at that point my wife no longer wanted to eat it. We received several apologies but no offer to remove the unacceptable food from the bill. Once a favorite place for Sushi, but no longer. We will not be returning to Senro. read more

We are long time customers of SENRO, and placed an online takeout order last night. A text message quickly confirmed our order and said it would be ready in 45 minutes. I arrived a couple of minutes early, they usually have orders ready early, and there were 3 people waiting for takeout. Finally 20 minutes after the scheduled time, a woman brings our order. I didn't have reading glasses, so couldn't read the order details, but she confirmed four rolls. After arriving home, we realized it wasn't our order. I called and text to tell them about the error. No response to my text and put in hold and finally disconnected phone call. So a late order, the wrong order, the food was not good, and no response to calls and text. Horrible service. read more

It is an old name but with new owner. The sushi quality is way better. I have visit it at least five times. For tuna, senro uses all blue fin from Spain. Salmon is from Scotland. Unagi all used sea eel. I love this place, main chef is very friendly and portion is big. Price is a bit cheaper than previous owner. Yes, I can understand Friday night is busy. I knew it's going to be some wait. Fortunately (or unfortunately), it didn't take long to be seated. Also didn't take long to order food. Now the clock starts ticking. 30 min of wait, it's Friday night, understandable. Another 30 min later, Hmm.....what's going on? Be patience, ok. Another 15 minutes of "no end in sight waiting", I finally found a server to check our order. "We are busy, there is nothing else I can do!" and walked away. Really? That's the customer service? We happened to be sitting by the cash register. Many to-go customers were waiting for their orders and being told the same thing (there isn't anything I can do!). I am not in the hospitality industry but can tell you a few thing you can do about: * Communicate with your customers in advance. It could be as simple as "I am sorry, we are busy tonight and it's going to take little longer." * Apologize - I don't mean "customer is always right". But in this case, if your restaurant isn't capable to deal with the Friday night surge, perhaps someone should look into the business model and how to run it effectively. Until then, apologize to your customers. * So for 75 minutes, nobody bother to come fill our glass of water. Sure the sushi bar is backup. But don't tell me none of the servers are busy, with the exception of one server keeps telling customers that "there isn't nothing I can do!" So I tell you what I can do - leave and never return. read more

I've been coming to Senro for a couple years now. The sushi is good, not inexpensive but also not too expensive. They have a lunch special that is awesome and will fill you up for about $20. They also seem to have enough variety that you won't get bored after a few visits. The parking in this shopping center isn't stellar but I suppose it could be worse. A bonus to this restaurant is that they have several TVs so if you're looking to watch sports there's a decent chance they'll have it playing. Service is quick. read more

Got this meal to go! Senro is in a convenient spot and if you're looking for a quick bite this might be your spot! I felt the salmon here was great. On the other fish, I felt that they didn't have a super fresh taste to them. Some fish were a little more seasoned which I think was intended to cover a bit of the fishy taste that I was getting. Ultimately for some pieces I had to resort to wasabi and soy sauce for me to enjoy the pieces. Personally I prefer to drive a little further south and go to Amakara but if I were in a rush I think Senro is a good pick. read more

I'm originally from Los Angeles and there are a lot of good sushi places down there. I typically eat sashimi or sushi. It's all about the fresh fish and not the rolls. I've been to dozens of sushi spots. In Nor Cal., including the city, and still, nothing compares to the freshness and taste of Senro. They are always spot on. I always have the best experience; food wise, and service wise. It never deviates. There are so many sushi spots within a 5 mile radius. None can compare. It blows my mind that these guys are not at least 4 1/2 stars. Senro has the best sushi in Northern California. Period. Point blank. Amen. read more
