The woman "helping" me was all over me and when they didn't have the perfume I came for it was like I wasn't aloud to look for or at anything else. I started to leave and was going to settle for a cheap perfume roller on my way out, of something else but when I stopped to look she came right up behind me and told me they didn't have what I was looking for. The pros and cons of this place are the same - the service. The staff will try to assist you over and over... if you just want to browse it's kind of awkward. But if you want expert feedback, it's there. Sort of. I had one staff member hook me up with affordable products that gave me the best skin of my life. I had other staff members recommend product after product that I didn't like, and then I felt strange turning down their recommendations and looking for something else. Good makeup but don't even bother getting a service done here. They have changed the policy from the old makeovers and I thought maybe it would be worth the extra money since they now use trained makeup artists, but it wasn't. They artist took forever to makeup her mind about what to do and what products to use, which was really annoying when you're being charged $1 a minute. The manager kept saying the artist didn't know any of Sephora's products, but she was going to help, then just walked away. The artist said she didn't have enough time to do more than one part of my face and refused to put foundation on me, then when she was done ten minutes early had no idea what to do with the remaining time so she just gave me a mirror and sent me outside to look at my face. read more

The worst service at any Sephora I have ever been to. After my daughter brought in a faulty make up she bought and asked kindly if she could return it, she was then looked at and treated like she had just robbed the store. The attitude was off the charts rude & then the manager came up & I explained how condenscending her colleagues were, she snapped to me & my daughter, "no they weren't!" I love this Sephora. It is totally a neighborhood shop. I usually have to ask as staff approaches less here but I can always get someone to help me find things or learn about product. I focus on cruelty free items and love how knowledgable some of the staff are here, the music is not ear damagingly loud and obnoxious and the staff is mostly sweet. It is smaller so sometimes the gifts with purchase are less exciting and often they have limited supplies but I will take that over the more intense experiences of some of the other, bigger Sephoras! read more

I went to Sephora today as they have just re opened. The staff was incredibly friendly and handing out waters for everyone waiting outside, they are being really careful about limiting the amount of people in the store and everything was super sanitary. I was looking for a new fragrance and took their Fragrance Finder Quiz in the store which allowed me to quickly narrow down which fragrances would work the best. Horrible experience. Only 5 people in the store and two employees. Waited for someone to help me, but nobody did. So I tried a moisturizer and store clerk immediately ran up to me and said we can't try anything on scolding me. Did she ask is there something I can assist you with? NO SHE DIDNT. I've had the pleasure of getting a custom makeover at this store twice now, as a Beauty Insider Rouge member I frequent many Sephora's and even though this one is a little smaller than most, it is an amazing customer service experience and I've never have to wait in long lines or wait forever to get someone to help match my foundation color or choose skincare that is right for me. Don't know what this store's problem is.... my friend and I walked in so I could return some makeup and look around in case we wanted to buy anything else. We were being watched the entire time like we were criminals. Every time we would leave an aisle after swatching makeup a sales associate would immediately go to where we were and check to make sure nothing was missing. Really weird and uncomfortable experience. I'm not sure whether it's because we're young (college aged) or if racial profiling was potentially involved. I absolutely love the Westlake Village Sephora! I have shopped at several Sephora's throughout LA county. All of them are great but Westlake is special. The girls are amazing. They are sweet, knowledgeable, kind and down to earth. I truly enjoy every minute in that store. The vibe is so refreshing and they love my dog I really like each and everyone who works there but Yvette is the BOMB! She is the most knowledgeable about my particular skin. She always hooks me up with exactly what I need to address my skin issues. She also gives me samples to try to be sure I like it before I buy anything. Honestly, I will never understand why racists work where they could bump into minorities. One of the sales associate walked up to me frowning, asking if I needed help to find something. I wanted to use one of those makeup removers before trying a mascara. She said she would get me a wipe, which didn't make much sense. She brought me a single wipe, which smelled of watermelon. I was slightly offended and also grossed out; I don't know how clean her hands are to put that in contact with my eye. I didn't use it, tried the mascara over the mascara I already had on my lashes, saw the results and bought it. Wish I had gotten that passive-aggressive, unhappy woman's name... But I think the best punishment for her is to watch a minority woman go shopping at noon on a Tuesday while she has to work. read more

Summary of my long review : Want extraordinary customer service? Do you want someone who has in-depth skin care knowledge, who is genuinely honest, and not chinsey with the samples? Someone who truly only has your skin heath in mind and not just interested in the sale and/or goal of making the $$$ sale? Then Darline is perfect for you. This review is about the customer service and a referral to someone who will give you outstanding customer service across the board. Don't get me wrong, I've never had bad customer service; they are attentive but generic. On my most recent trip to Sephora I received outstanding customer (07/03/19). I arrived at the store 30mins before closing. I usually don't wait until last minute but I was delayed by a ridiculous amount of pre 4th of July traffic. I wasn't there to pick up a specific item, I was/am in search for an item(s) to rectify/improve the concerns I have about my skin. Usually I'm offered assistance right away however, this time all the employees were helping others and ringing up customers. So I looked around at some of the items I had done previous research on. So to make a long story short; I waited over 30mins due to a difficult customer. The store was already past closing hours when finally one of the three came to help me while the other two deal with the rude/difficult customer. The woman's name is Darline. So because it was after closing hours, I felt uncomfortable and rushed because I actually had questions. But Darline's demeanor was calm; she gave me her full attention. She didn't give off a undertone of anxious vibration. I tried to be quick however she did not rush me at all. NOW What impressed me enough to write a review and share my experience is her knowledge and genuine honesty. After explaining my skin history, concerns, and what I'm looking to accomplish; I asked my question about the the products that I heard were good (from YouTube and just reading reviews) as well as Products I saw while I was waiting. And instead of pointing to the most expensive product she suggested and explained in great detail about the products that would rectify and enhance my skin. In the past I've always received the same customer service; which is a bunch of suggestions of a bunch of drift brands and products that "might work". For the suggested products they would generic information instead in-depth explanation why they believe the product would address my skin issues. Everything they know about the skin products could be read on the box. Which in my opinion shows that they have a generic knowledge about products but aren't actually knowledgeable about skin care/health. But speaking with Darline, I could tell she was extremely knowledgeable about skin health, of all ages. And as I mentioned before, she's honest. For example, I was looking at face washing brushes. I've always been interested in them due to their popularity yet never bought one because my mother told me it would slowly scratch my skin (I'm 31 btw lol). I asked her about them and share my mother's opinion, and asked for her honest opinion. She looked at me and in a low voice said, "yes, that's true. It will". Those brush things are over $100 not to mention the difference brush heads. I was surprised! Occasionally you'll meet a semi honest sales person but usually it's because they size you up and refer you to a slightly lower priced version/product that they believe you could afford. They don't suggest the experience item in order not to lose the sale completely; but still all they care about is making the sale even if it's not highest priced. Darline, was truthful even though I know won't buy that item however in did put my faith in her opinions/suggestions. I could tell she genuinely cared about helping me because the samples she gave me (serum and moisturizer) were enough to last me a week. The samples I've been given in the past have very little in their very small containers. Darline suggested I take a picture before trying the samples and promised by the end of the week I will see improvement. It's only been a few days and yesterday I noticed my skin has slightly improve; definitely quicker and better than any other products. And let me tell you, all the samples are amazing. Skin care is important. Finding the right products is hard and usually an expensive pursuit. Her in-depth knowledge about skincare has given me what I need without the expensive and disappointing roller coaster search of the products that will give me the skin I desire. read more

As a result of an email scam, I purchased two $500 gift cards. Within 30 minutes of purchase I realized what had happened and called the store. They directed me to their Corporate Office who checked the status of the cards - they had not been used. They froze the cards and I returned them to the store that same day. At the store, I was instructed to contact "Corporate" because the store could not do a refund on the "frozen" cards. Corporate advised me to contact my credit card company to dispute the charge. They said when Sephora received the dispute they would not challenge it and I would receive my $1,000 back. They said they could not issue a refund because they do not refund on the purchase of gift cards. I did exactly as told, but Sephora did not. The charge went back on my card. I called Sephora again. Had to tell the whole story again because there appeared to be no notes about any of our previous conversations. Again confirmed that the cards had no been used and were still frozen. After a lot of transferring here and there I finally spoke to someone who said they would send me an email in 7-10 days and ask how would I prefer to receive my refund. I chose a paper check and they confirmed my home address. A month later and no email or check. Well that's not exactly true. I was receiving several emails every day or two marketing products, but nothing in response to my refund. When I called again the "beauty advisor" had to work very hard to come up information on me. I requested to be transferred to a supervisor who again spent a good deal of time asking me questions, "reviewing my records", and speaking with her manager. She confirmed there had never been any activity on the gift cards and that they had been frozen. She informed me that they had changed their policy and no longer could issue paper checks because too many people were having checks stolen from their mailboxes. We were now back to the "we don't issue refunds on gift card purchases". I do not understand how any reputable business can refuse to return my money. If someone had used the cards as the result of the scam, then I understand that by purchasing them I would have been held liable. But that didn't happen. It appears I have simply given Sephora the gift of $1,000. I am not sure exactly what my next step will be but I am not ready to just take this lying down. Got my makeup done for prom here and the girl rushed hardcore. Her name was Chelsey I think? She had another client waiting and really tried to speed things up which made the makeup look pretty bad. The eyeliner was crappy and one side wasn't pointy at all and within maybe 30 minutes one of my lashes was coming off which I ended up ripping off an hour into prom because everyone kept pointing it out. She also made my eyebrows look red???? I'm blonde how does that make sense. She didn't line my lips either which made the lipstick look bad too. The first time I visited this Sephora store I wasn't impressed at all....no one asked if I needed help, when I managed to get the staff to stop talking to one another at the counter by asking for help they were rude, and then they didn't stock the REN product I wanted to purchase (they are a smaller store so don't stock as many products as the larger mall stores). Second visit with my daughter last night was much better. A young female staff member approached and asked if we needed any help as soon as we walked in the store. When we said we were looking for foundation she went to get the specialist makeup artist to help us. Crystal came over and she was fantastic! She used a number of different foundations on my daughter to get the right colour (my daughter has very pale skin and foundations often look yellow or orange on her light skin tone), then introduced her to a number of different products to try out including a highlighter and a mattifyer. Crystal applied the makeup, wrote down what she used, gave us a free sample of the mattifyer and didn't push us to make a purchase. She was very gentle and understanding, and had an good constructive answer to every question. She also told us to use the mattifyer after the foundation, which she had learned in a Sephora training event. My daughter was extremely happy with the foundation Crystal recommended, she checked it in different light, including outside, and ended up buying the product. It is the first foundation my daughter has been able to wear without a tide mark on her neck where it ends, even though she has visited a number of Sephora stores, had staff help her and used the computerized system for foundation matching. Crystal took 5 minutes, tested 3 foundations and bingo she found the perfect one! If you need any help ask for Crystal, we will in all our future visits. read more

When this Sephora location first opened, I felt ill treated. No would ask me if I needed help or when I would go up to one of their make up consultants who were just standing talking to each other they made me feel like I was being a bother. After three unfortunate visits to this location I decided to go to the Oaks location where I felt more welcomed by their employees. Since I work in Westlake Village, I decided to swing by this Sephora to pick up a few items. The women who, I assume, were vendors for different cosmetic companies, were there and they were very friendly. I needed advice so I asked one of Sephora's beauty experts dressed in their uniform who gave me a very terse response. Today, I found a $25 off when you spend over $50 dollars of more Rouge discount card Sephora sent me in the mail and decided to go in an return my items so I could repurchase them and re-purchase them. When I asked the sales associate if I could do this she gave me attitude and asked her fellow sales associate if she could return and repurchase the items to which the other sales associate said were not supposed to but if you're going to do it just do it. First, there are so many other ways to say that in a less passive aggressive manner. For example: "we can't, I'm sorry" to which I would just return the items and pick them back up from the store and go back in line to purchase them (if you ask me, that's more work for them and me - restocking the items that were purchased or throwing them out whatever sephora's policy entails) or they can say, "we normally can't, but we'll do it this one time". Second, the elitist look on their faces ... like I was giving them so many more problems and not worth a smile. My transaction took a quarter of time the transaction before me took... and yet the person in front of me received a friendly demeanor with a thank you and a smile than I had... Third, was it really that hard or a burden to do what I asked? What's so bad about saving $25 dollars that I would spend probably at Sephora anyways... isn't that part of the purpose of a sale or promotion to entice consumers to buy more?? Fourth, I'm the most upset that every time I come into this Sephora I am made to feel like less of a customer. I've worked in retail too - I get the hours are long and sometimes the customers are demanding especially in this area and during the holidays. However, I do not believe I should be the butt of their passive aggression towards customers - because I do not fit the profile of their regular westlake customer or because I am not a regular customer of this Sephora. Their customer service should be help at the same standard for EVERY customer that walks in their doors. I am very disappointed. If Sephora trains their associates, they need to work on better customer service for all that this location - if Nordstrom can hone that into their sales associates, Sephora can too. Hortencia was at the register when I checked out this morning. What a terrible representative for Sephora! Her unfriendly, dismissive manner made me feel like she had zero interest in my business. I had a question about a product that she couldn't answer. That's fine, but she was clearly not interested in helping to understand my confusion on product pricing. She misunderstood my issue, because she didn't take the time to listen to me. She was not wearing a name badge, so I asked another clerk in the store the name of the person at the register who had just checked me out. In general, the reps at the Oaks Mall, another Sephora store in our community, are better than those at the Westlake location. They greet customers and are engaging and always interested in assisting. But the behavior of the reps at the Westlake location, though not stellar, has never risen to the level of prompting me to take the time out of my day to write a review. I just avoid that location. The company should take a close look at their Westlake Village employees in general. They should know that Hortencia is not welcoming or helpful to customers. Because of my experience with her this morning, I left the Sephora store feeling like they really don't care about their customers. read more

I came in on my lunch break so it was a quick trip. The location is small but there is plenty of parking making it easy for me to get in and out in a short time frame. I needed to grab tinted moisturizer and mascara. I was looking for one by Bobbi Brown however this location (and some others) do not carry it the girl who helped me was knowledgeable and helped me find a different mascara that did the same job as the Bobbi brown one. I love that Sephora sometimes has reps from the different lines there doing mini make overs I always get suckered into trying new product that way. I'm giving 5 stars for Taylor helping me with mascara and Yvette for helping me with self tanner. The rest of the employees weren't friendly. I would have liked to spend a few more hundred dollars on products from this location but I felt like I was a bother and I've never felt unwelcome in any Sephora other than this trip. I don't buy high end makeup often but the 5 times a year I do, I buy a lot. The girl at the register took my hundred dollar bills, realized she didn't have any change in the register, decided to ring me up on the register next to it WITHOUT taking my hundred dollar bills back out of the original register. SO she had to call management to retrieve my cash. The "manager" had a miserable look on her face and didn't offer an apology or "oh! Oops!" It was like it was my fault. I would usually just chalk it up to "everyone has a bad day" but the second I got home, I had to do my makeup and and hurry to an event. My makeup forever eyeliner broke within two seconds of use (not Sephora's fault of course). On the upside, my benefit roller lash mascara and Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes mascara are both good. This is the day after my trip to Sephora & I'm currently sitting here with my St. tropez self tanning mousse on & so far so good on that product! I always have a great experience shopping at Sephora, Westlake Promenade and I always enjoy entering into this beautiful store. One of the employees named Enrique is always very professional, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. He never leaves his customers by themselves and checks on them constantly to see if they have any more questions regarding a specific product or they need more assistant. Yesterday I asked him about a specific note in perfumes and he answered my question professionally and helped me find all the products I was looking for. It's so clean and organized in here. It's not busy so you can get the help you need. The one located at the mall there is always something being moved which is a pain when I want to be in and out of there and lots of people. My favorite product is fully stocked here, it is rarely available at the mall and I won't say what it is otherwise everyone will come and buy it up here too and I won't have any for me. ;p I love not having to sit through endless red signal lights heading to the mall for makeup and facial cleansers - this is a quick stop with no mall parking lot fuss so that alone earns it 5 stars. :)) The staff working here are really friendly and helpful and came to me as soon as I walked through the doors. read more

Her customer service was great, she asked me questions and paid attention to detail, and was very knowledgeable!
