Like a frozen dinner. It's take out, I get it, but if it's not acceptable to present to a table in the restaurant it shouldn't be acceptable to send out. 2 stars only because the side order of bread was good. First time in this location but I always have a great time at Serafina. A bit hidden from view on the busy Newbury Street, it was pretty empty at dinner time on a Thursday night. This location feels cozier than the larger on in the financial district and a lot smaller. We loved the complimentary bread and fantastic service. My friend and I ordered... Rigatoni Bolognese: 5/5 perfect in every sense. Right ratio of meat and al dente pasta. This is my new go-to dish here. Farfelle Limoncello: 4/5 my friend liked the flavors but wasn't a big fan of bow-tie pasta and wanted a tad more shrimp. You can't really go wrong for a casual dinner here. Came here for a friends birthday dinner and it was super nice; our waitress was super on top of it, really kind, and made sure our water glasses were never empty. Serafina is actually her favorite restaurant! I had walked past this restaurant many times on Newbury Street, but never really noticed it to go in. I'm glad that I've tried it out now, the food was definitely delicious. They gave us a nice basket of bread to start with which is always appreciated. My friends loved their penne alla vodka, and the chicken salad I ordered was also very yummy. the food was good. the problem lies in the misleading menu that appears outside of the restaurant for viewers to peruse. it offers an 8oz filet mignon with French fries for $26.00. However the menu presented to me inside the restaurant showed the same steak and fries for $45.00. I questioned the waitress who denied this discrepancy . We walked outside and I pointed out the dinner in question. She got the manager who was not agreeable and stated the steak was $45.00. No apologies, no explanation. This was a deliberate case of false advertising- bait and switch. Not good business practice and certainly doesn't promote returning diners. read more

Came here for Easter brunch/lunch. My boyfriend and I had the special. He, the eggs pergatory, which were two eggs in a red sauce with two slices of bread, and myself a special French toast. Although the eggs were good, the sauce was quite sour. Dipping the bread in the sauce helped with the sourness. My French toast was disappointing. I was expecting an atypical French toast but it was nothing like French toast. It tastes like a day old fried dough bites drizzles with powered sugar, Nutella, and what seems like condensed milk and a couple berries. Something I may consider for dessert, but definitely not for brunch. Others in our party, had their house made gnocchi which they loved. Such a niche place! It's an underground restaurant and was very insta-coded with murals on the wall. I reserved a table ahead and sat down at 8:15 for dinner. My family and I were only in town for 1 day, but this completed our experience. I was initially worried that the staff wouldn't take me seriously because I was a kid, which I have read reviews about, but the staff was so kind and attentive. The food came quick and was incredible! Please get the aranchini it was the best I've ever had (coming from an Italian who is very fond on aranchini). I got the ravioli alla salvia and it did not flop. Hands down was incredible. Portions were kind of small for the price, but the taste made up for that. I made reservation on tuesday 5:45 on open table for 4people and on the note i wrote 3adults, one child and one infant. When we got there, the old cacausian man who seems to be the owner or manager was not very friendly. He was not happy that i reserved for 4 and told me i had to book for 5 inclduing the infant. There were about 4 customers in the restaurant and quite empty. However, he put us in the back area where staorage is. We asked to have another table, but he said its the best table in the restaurant. I am not sure if he is racist or just did not welcome family with infant and child. It is in the basement and interior design is not like the photos in open table. This place is by far the worst serafina location with terrible interior design and unwelcoming owner or manager. So we left and came to eataly. There are so many better places. DO NOT GO HERE. The owner or the manager act as if we are in his house and he is providing free food. Im sure this location will not survive. He should not be in seevice business. I used to go to this chain and liked it, but i am never going back. read more

Had a really great experience here a few days ago. This location is in the heart of Newbury st and usually I wouldn't venture there just because of the parking. However due to the coronavirus I was actually able to easily find a spot on the street. They have a good outdoor seating area and are also offering limited indoor dining as well. Now for the good stuff....started out with burrata and prosciutto, just a delicious melt in your mouth appetizer. For main I had a bolognese and my friend had the cacio e Pepe. Both were absolutely divine, perfect comfort food. We also decided to share the penne all vodka and it was worth a couple bites and to take home. Lastly finished of with a light and not to sweet tiramisu. Only tiny complaint I have is the mango mojito was a little sweet. Either way stop by when you are in town! read more

This place is a little hidden restaurant on Newbury St, easy to walk right by. You have to walk down a few steps to get to the door. They take reservations. I came with a group of 10 on a Friday night to celebrate an anniversary and they were able to accommodate. Noise level is low. You get complimentary sourdough bread with balsamic vinaigrette dip. I highly recommend the Rigatoni alla Bolognese. The pasta is cooked perfectly, and there's just the right amount of meat sauce. The portion size is good too, not too small but not a huge amount of food either. For dessert- you have to try the tiramisu! It's literally drenched in espresso. And they also pour this light cream on it, which makes it extra moist. The food comes out quickly. Service was excellent, and everyone was nice. Prices are very reasonable. I'm not sure why some of the bad reviews, honestly. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

I met a colleague for dinner here. I no longer get in Boston as much as I used to so when I go to an Italian restaurant I have high hopes (grew up in an Italian household with fresh cooking). I wasn't wowed nor was it bad. I know what is good Italian fare and I just expected more but certainly would not dissuade anyone from going here. Service was good. Wine selection is stellar!! Had my first Brunello and I am hooked. Maybe I am biased but I tend to get better meals from smaller places in Federal Hill or North End. read more

How unfortunate. I remember going to the Serafina on Madison Ave in NYC with my mom several years ago, and it was awesome. Too bad my girl and I didn't feel the same at this place. Booked dinner for a party of 5. This review would be much better based on the food, which was pretty decent and nice. However, during a pandemic, when Covid-19 is on the rise, signs all over the restaurant enforced Boston's indoor mask mandate. The man in the Christmas sweater was the manager walking around the restaurant, not wearing a mask. The bar tender did not wear a mask. The hostess did not wear a mask. Most of the cooks did not wear a mask. When we asked the manager why he wasn't wearing a mask he said because they just don't. This is my first negative Yelp posting - it's unfortunate that the staff, starting with the manager, think they are above the state mandate to help keep patrons safe. If I would have known or read a posting about this prior to making reservations, it would have changed my mind. I'm sure some out there will support this and others will hopefully benefit from knowing in advance. I won't be returning. read more

Have been here in year's past, and stopped in today for salad and pizza with the significant other. Dance music playing overhead was festive, if a bit too loud for noon on a Sunday. Arugula and tomato salad was well made and tasty, if a tad overdressed. Everything in it was fresh, and the sliced Parmesan cheese was excellent. We then shared a pizza, topped with mushroom, arugula, artichoke hearts, and prosciutto. The ingredients and dough were very tasty, but it didn't come out very hot, and also came out quicker than I'd have expected if made fresh; not sure exactly what happened but it was solid enough - not great, but solid. Nothing wrong with the meal here; we ate everything, and enjoyed it. Three stars means "good," and it WAS good. But I think they can shoot higher, and reach it, if they try. Solid lunch, no doubt about it. Give it a try! read more
