We got the teriyaki chicken which had really good flavor. The general tso chicken (white meat) was also yummy. The lo mein was ok. I ordered online and picked up the food. Happy family X 2, Egg drop soup and a side of fried rice. When I walked in the door the small dining/waiting area did not smell good. If I had not ordered online I would have walked out. There was a women at the counter when I walked in, She looked at me, made eye contact, and then walked back to the kitchen without a word. After standing at the counter a few minutes she returned and asked my name, charged me and brought my food out. The egg drop soup was good. The happy family was awful, not much flavor and tasted as though it wasn't fresh. My wife also found hair in hers. The side of fried rice was for my daughter. It tasted like it was not fresh. I live a block from this location...I've passed it a million times. I read reviews...but frankly I'm snobby when it comes to Asian cuisine. I like fresh food...clean atmosphere...and good prices. With so many hangups you can see why it took me a while go try Sesame House. Today with the storm coming, I decided I didn't want to cook! I read the reviews again and decided just to go for it and here is how it went... I went to the website I placed the order waited 15 min and headed on over. I get to the plaza and easily find a parking space at 4:20 on a Friday. The place has booth like tables and seats maybe 30 ppl. The place was clean. When I walked in there was a lady behind the counter. She promptly took my payment and then advised me that my order was not ready...all the while taking 5 call in orders. I could hear sizziling in the back along with pots banging...and in my mind they were doing those benni Hanna type tricks while cooking! I waited another 10 minutes and my name was called. Gathered my nicely packed bag of loot and headed home. I plated the food and fed the heathens!! Lots of food...no complaints..and it was still hot! read more

The photos on Yelp had me geeked to try this spot. I ordered my norm with a few extra items. - Combination fried rice - Chicken & Shrimp w/ broccoli - Fried chicken wings w/ sauce - Crab rangoon & One spring roll - Egg drop soup I must say everything was on point!!! Keep your expectations realistic. One glance at the menu would tell you that they sell Americanized Chinese food. If you're a self-proclaimed Asian cuisine snob, or you only want authentic Chinese food, then go to Plano. I had the Pupu platter that I ordered to-go. Despite the horrendous name, the Pupu platter was decent. The eggroll had a nice crunch to it, and the skewers were delicious. I did end up getting full from the order even though it's labeled as a appetizer on their website. The rest of their portions are generous, so I'm glad to see that the appetizers were no exception. Been going here since late 90's when they opened. Lots of food for a reasonable price. It's also quite good. My only issue as others have commented is that some of their battered dishes can be quite heavy on the batter. I love those sesame chicken, fried rice, and cashew shrimp the most. Definitely worth checking if you are in the area or plan on passing through. read more

Going to update my review. It's very good at what they are: a neighborhood Chinese take out joint. If they would make a few improvements it would be a really excellent joint. We have seen other Chinese places raise prices and cut portion sizes. Sesame House has had some very modest increases but portions remain huge. Quality is excellent. The place is spotless; my wife said the restroom was a as clean as a Buc-ee's. In general the sauces at excellent. The issues are in two areas: quality of battered items and how they cook vegetables. My wife loves orange beef but here the sauce rocks but the batter is very heavy and the it's just a solid brick when you get home. And it's evident they precook their vegetables as they are just mush in all the dishes. Onions, bell peppers, even carrots are mushy overcooked messes whatever the dish. Best dish is the hot spicy pork which is really twice cooked pork. The battered dishes are heavily battered. Try to order them sauce on the side. We get the Orange Beef and it's very good. The spicy dishes are medium spicy if you don't specify. It's plenty for us. We always get the Hunan spicy pork which is basically twice cooked pork, with a great sauce, and black pepper chicken.
