Wow! I can't say enough about the Sevn Mile Cafe! It was super nice to be able to put myself on the waitlist ahead of time online. On a Saturday I think the wait was a hour. We ended up waiting 10 minutes once we got there. We sat upstairs, it was much quieter upstairs which was nicer. I order fresh squeezed orange juice... delicious and the Irish coffee also delicious! Ted got the cappuccino super good! I got the southern benny and a single berry dream pancake and he got the southern breakfast burrito. Everything was amazing. We had more than enough to take home. I've said this before I need to say it again it didn't location. You're guaranteed one of two things. Great food but poor service a great service but poor food today today's breakfast was the ladder. Great food, but poor servers when your server comes over you three times all within five minutes and asking how you're doing does not know how to read body signs. This most recent trip to 7 mile was a special birthday brunch, this trip was unfortunately just "fine". Okay food and okay service. While it wasn't busy our server seemed rushed never offering refills nor checking on us after the meal came out. Every time I mean to take pictures I forget until we've already devoured almost everything. Their standout entrées are basically all the benedicts, grits and migas. Also always ask for cilantro jalapeño salsa, you will not regret it. The servers are so friendly and happy to help with suggestions. When I was nine, I got lost in the woods behind my childhood home. It was early morning, just after sunrise. I was supposed to be walking to the bus stop, but I saw something small and blue dart between the trees and I followed it. I walked for what felt like hours, but when I looked at my watch, it had only been seven minutes. I found a clearing I'd never seen before. In the center was a table -- a full breakfast laid out on top. A breakfast burrito, mug of coffee still steaming. No chairs. No people. I stood there a long time, trying to figure out if I was dreaming. Then I heard something behind me. Footsteps, slow and steady, like someone who wasn't in a rush but very much intended to arrive. I didn't wait to see who it was. I ran. I didn't stop until I was back at the bus stop, knees scraped, lungs on fire. I never told anyone. That was the last time I felt truly hungry. Until yesterday. I was driving when I saw it. "7 Mile" -- no subtitle, no promises. I pulled in on instinct. Inside, everything felt... intentional. Like each chair had been placed by someone who'd done it before. The light from the windows hit the silverware just right. My server was named Mateo. I didn't tell him anything about the forest or the breakfast table or the seven minute time slip. But he looked at me like he already knew. Like he recognized me. I asked him what I should get. He smiled and walked straight to the back. When the plate hit the table, it made a sound I hadn't heard in years -- the same soft clink I remembered from the clearing. I took a bite and immediately remembered how cold my hands had been that morning in the woods. I remembered the shape of the coffee mug. I remembered the footsteps. Mateo came by only once after I started eating. He refilled my water without speaking. When he left, I noticed a faint blue thread hanging from the hem of his apron. I didn't ask about it. Anyway, I'm not saying this place is haunted. I'm just saying the food woke something up in me that's been sleeping since 2010. And Mateo? He might not be from hebackre. The French toast is my favorite, they offer many different flavors and toppings but I usually keep it simple with berries. It gets pretty packed on weekends, so definitely come early to get your name on the wait list. I enjoyed Seven Mile so much I had to revisit less than a week later. I tried a new dish since the grits were so good during my first visit. I got the Farmhouse Biscuit dish. The serving of hasbrowns was plentiful, the biscuits were soft and fluffy, and the sauces complimented the fish perfectly. I felt the ratio of biscuit to meat and eggs was very off; I would've preferred just one biscuit sandwich with double the bacon. Each sandwich had a single slice of bacon cut in half; they were good, but the bacon was basically nonexistent with the amount of egg and the thick biscuits. Hashbrowns were amazing! The service was just as great as the first time. Our waitress was training a new employee, who seemed to be in very good hands. Dined inside this time, so I got to analyze the decor a bit more.
