I got the meatball hoagie with salad and the yellow submarine served hot with califoria veggie soup (weds special) Everything was delicious! I used to eat here many years ago and just because of job changes and convenience I had gotten out of the habitat of eating at this one. I met with a friend who wanted to have dinner there, honestly it was not one of my better experiences. I ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and I did not enjoy the sauce - way too bitter. My friend had ordered the chicken salad and said he's got that all the time for years, I ordered after him and he had to ask twice to where his salad was my food had been there for quite a while. I guess I prefer to the location out west because it's roomier and just seems like a better setup. I was nervous the entire meal because the tables are too close so I could barely get in with the family behind us and the chairs are horrible lawn chair kind of plastic things - as a heavier guy I was nervous the whole meal but the chair was going to break. I like their pizza and wish I had stuck with that, I will still definitely get pizza from this location but definitely on the to go basis. read more

I am a longtime fan of Sgt Peffers. That being said, my most recent visit was a departure from the norm. My family came in on Monday night. After we placed our order, the server cautioned us that the restaurant currently had a gnat problem. She was correct. While we were eating, there were gnats crawling around on my salad bowl and my entree plate; the same was true for the rest of my family. It was not a very appealing setting for enjoying a meal. Our soup, salad and bread came out promptly. However, we did not get plates for our bread, which made it a little awkward to eat it. When our entrees arrived, they all came out in to-go containers versus being served on a plate or dish, including my son's pizza which came out in a closed cardboard box. I will visit again, but I am hoping the level of service goes back to what it has been in the past. read more

This has always been one of our favorite pizza spots. So much so, they catered our wedding! It's not the best of the best of Omaha, but the crust is unique to other pizza spots. It's almost homemade pizza taste and look. The toppings are plentiful, and the sauce is sweet but not too sweet. The chicken salad is one of our faves, and we get it every time. I only have one gripe with it though, it needs more lettuce! The lettuce to topping to dressing ratio is way too much dressing and topping for the lettuce you get. The sourdough rolls are yummy! My husband and I recently got takeout from Sgt Peffers and it's as good as I remember for my UNMC med school days! The baked pastas are the way to go, hands down! We ended up getting a baked cheese tortellini in Alfredo sauce and a vegetarian lasagna, which we ordered over the phone without any problems. The entrees were supposed to come with a soup or salad each and we got one soup (a chili) and a Cesar salad. The entrees also come with a roll. When I pulled up to the drive through window (yes, there's a drive through window for called ahead takeout orders!), though, it took upwards of 5 minutes for someone to notice I was there. Once they did notice, they were all very nice but there seemed to be some confusion about the order. They confirmed the order and then told me it would still be about 10 minutes, but then it was handed over to me in just a few minutes, which wasn't a bad thing at all. When I got home, we realized that they forgot to include the salad, which was a bummer. The confusion at the drive through and salad being missing aside, the meal was delicious. The Alfredo tortellini was super rich, creamy, cheesy, and super filling! The lasagna was a cheesy tomato goodness that balanced the creamy alfredo nicely. Can't wait to go back! read more

This was a good experience with Sgt. Peffer's, it is convenient for pick up with the drive through which is awesome. The staff was friendly and made sure our order was correct before closing the bags. We got food on a Friday so they had the Chicken Florentine soup which was really really good. Haven't had a bad soup from this place. I had the Italian sampler with a half and half of red and white sauce which is the move here. One of my buddies did the same. My wife had the tortellini with the mixed sauce and my other buddy did the cannelloni with the mixed sauce as well. I have been in the past and not done the mixed sauce and wasn't too impressed but something about having both of them to mix or go back and forth with is great. The side salad for my one friend was good just a side salad he did just get ranch tho and not one of their dressings. Rolls were okay. I have had the pizza before which is also good. Another thing they do which is really unique is if you're having drinks at the Homey Inn across the street they will deliver food over there as well. Definitely will be back and glad to see they were able to make it through the first stage of construction in the area. Look forward to my next meal here. read more

It's savory, indulgent and seriously just so good all around. We've also dabbled with the baked pastas a time or two and they make a great option for a family style meal at home or an easy drop off meal if you're like us and have friends with new babies every few months . Today was actually the first time I tried one of their salad options - and while I would've preferred a Romaine option or something higher quality than iceberg - the chicken itself, house dressing and overall size made it feel like a worthwhile menu option anyway. I'm not sure what happened this time around, but the pizza we had delivered to Homey Inn just wasn't up to the usual standard. The crust was extremely thin... thinner than what I've come to expect from this place, and it tasted like it needed more time in the oven. I typically don't mind a thin crust, but this tasted undercooked. When I picked up the first slice, all the cheese and toppings slid right off. I'm not sure if that was because I didn't let it cool enough or if it simply wasn't baked thoroughly. Either way, I ate it because I was hungry, but it was disappointing compared to what I've had here before. If we order again, I might mention it to them and see if it was just a one-off issue. read more

First, if there's any very low reviews in last year, keep in mind it could be politically motivated as there is a group of dotted people with a vengeance against any restaurant that doesn't go to their extremes. Second, this restaurant has gone down hill over the years. For the last few years there has been an awful smell when you walk in - like burning plastic - very unappetizing. I've mentioned this to them. They just shrug/kind of act like they didn't hear me. I think the food is pretty good. It's hard to think anything is great after that. Yet I like supporting small businesses like them and do love their gluten free minestrone soup. In fact, the soup is the best and most flavorful dish I've had in a long time. One year, I even ordered a bunch to bring to a potluck and it was a big hit. Hope they can remedy what is truly wrong and gain customers back. Despite living quite close to this Omaha classic, I hadn't tried it until just recently. I got the classic lasagna with a side of garlic bread, and while it was a solid take out meal, I'm not sure the lasagna itself (despite the addition of a side salad) was worth $18. It was quite good but I felt that price was a smidge steep for the quantity of food received. The garlic bread was quite good, although the addition of pepperonis did throw me for a bit of a loop. We've been going to this location for over 30 years. Unfortunately the quality is not keeping up with the rising costs. I get that all restaurants are rising prices, but the prices at this location are way over anything I'm willing to pay for what you get. In our to go order we had the meatball chunk appetizer. The service is terrible. The food lacks any resemblance of what it used to be. Parking isn't their issue. The food is the problem. The changed their menu and now it's just crazy amounts of cheese to the simple, great menu they had before. No wonder their restaurant went under in Carter Lake. I can't quite put into words how delicious this is but let me start by saying this salad is very hearty and at a place with delicious pizza and pasta, I often only get this salad because it fills me up. For lunch today we had pasta at Sgt. Peffer's Cafe Italian on N. Saddle Creek. It's a small place with scattered tables for two or four. During Covid times, we ordered delivery. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as crowded as the parking lot made it seem. The ambiance is a nod to the Beatles and a play on words with the owner's name-- Sgt. Peffer's as opposed to Sgt. Pepper's. There is a lot of Beatles memorabilia in here. We also really like the food. Bookguy always orders seafood lasagna which he says is "to die for". I usually order veggie lasagna but today decided to have Quatroformaggi mostaccioli--a four cheese sauce over pasta. It was a bit bland but still tasty and a large enough portion for leftovers. Both entrees came with soup or salad and a delicious house made bread roll. We both chose salad and Bookguy liked that it had iceberg rather that a different kind of lettuce. The salad was also a generous portion. The soups are different for each day and are not what you find anywhere else. They also have pizza and sandwiches. We love the food we get here and will, of course, come back again. read more
