We stopped in for breakfast - first time in and found the customer decorated walls and the invitation to do so ourselves with large sharpie markers fun and inviting (especially exciting for our 4 year old)! My husband got the chicken and waffles - he found the chicken to be a bit unseasoned, the waffles "good", and finished his plate! I ordered the pancakes with blueberry compote. The pancakes were buttery and fluffy with the slightly crisp edges (which I love), and the blueberry compote tasted fresh, the bacon nice and crispy, while the syrup was missing the "maple" flavor for me - it tasted a bit like a basic sugar and water syrup with no flavoring. read more

I had their french toast, eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. Super yummy. Other guests in our party had one of the skillets and eggs benedict and they gave great raves about the excellent food. This establishment is close to my home, so I've been here many times. The last two times I've been, my scrambled eggs were browned and dry. The first time this happened, I sent my eggs back and they brought me some soft-scrambled. The second time, I sent my eggs back and they brought out a second serving of overdone eggs. This place is just awesome. I had been to The Shack in Valley Park, and this one is quite similar. There's a full bar at this joint that closes daily at 2pm - so there's a very chill, warm, welcoming feel as soon as you walk in. The giant wood doors and walls are decorated with customer doodles and quotes, and the servers and staff are all very friendly. Meals here come in very large (but not absurd) portions, so you'll leave full but not overly stuffed. You'll also be well-caffeinated if you order coffee because you're given a whole carafe for your table! Enjoy! And leave them another 5-star review. :) read more

The Shack is fantastic! Prepare yourself for a crowd as this place is always busy. If you don't mind a 30-45 min wait or grabbing a seat at the bar for brunch, then give them a try. When you walk in, you'll notice the walls are covered in writing of all colors and sizes. I've never written on the walls myself, but they must hand out sharpies to patrons to sign their name among the ranks. Good luck finding a space to add your name, these walls are COVERED. Their menu is hysterical, all the items have quirky, funny names. A couple of my favorite item names include "Why The French Hate Us" and "Do It Yourself Meg Ryan". In all seriousness, the food and drinks are delicious. I've had cocktails each time i've gone, always a generous pour and top-of-the-line friendly bartenders. They seem genuinely happy to work there. Personal favorites include the Brussels-N-Egg skillet from their "Healthy(er) Habits" section and the Turkey Focaccia off of the lunch menu. We were ordering curbside service every Sunday. Every time, there was something missing or incorrect. The food kept declining in quality. I sent a private message to their Facebook account about the problems but never heard back. We always tipped at least 20%. I get the feeling they really don't like doing take out because they charge extra for take out - like 5% or maybe even 10%. I've never heard of that before. I'm curious why they don't just end their take out/curbside service. It's better not to offer it at all than to provide it begrudgingly with poor service and low quality food. read more

LOVED THE SHACK!!! It's a busy place but it's worth the wait. The service was efficient and pleasant. After smelling the yumminess in the air, we were ready to get the brunch started with boozy cereal milkshakes and killer bloody marys. Loved my spicy bloody mary done vegetarian which had nice garnishes without the meat. My brunch mates let me taste their Coco Puffs boozy shake (totally yum!), Captain Crunch (2nd fave), Froot Loops (least fave since it tasted more like a smoothy than boozy froot loops) - this is the way to start brunch! Yes, you can get coffee, water and other drinks but why? I ordered Iguana Huevo Ranchero - chorizo, refried beans, queso blanco with corn tortillas plus crispy hash browns (yes, please) and 2 eggs over easy to top it off. This was our first time at this establishment and we were pleasantly surprised. Going out into the suburbs we were hesitate about this place but found that it had such a great vibe that could easily be found in the city. The graffiti decor is fun and unique, just like the menu and food. The menu items all have a fun and witty name to them, which makes ordering a fun experience. We started off with bloody Mary's and wow... we got the meat lovers one and it even came with a jerky straw! So unique! Overall this place was great, with decent prices and helpful, kind staff. I would suggest coming here to have a "special" brunch. It almost seems wrong to get a basic item like just eggs and bacon. We are excited to explore more of this menu... we will be back! read more

Best chorizo I have had in a LONG time! I would come back just for that chorizo: the texture, flavor, spice level, portion size--all on point. I had an omelette with chorizo, cheddar, and avocado. Hash browns were great, my biscuit was pretty good, but could have been hotter. My father, who is pretty finicky really enjoyed his ham and eggs as well. Waited about 30 min for staff to finally notice the crowd at the front entry. That's not their fault and I was relieved someone took the initiative to, but once seated the chaos continued. We waited an additional 15 min before another waitress saw we still hadn't been waited on and served us herself. She came from across the restaurant to assist and that was really nice of her. The food was good but we felt a little uncomfortable as none of the servers had masks over their mouth or nose. Some had masks around their neck. Our server didn't have a mask at all. We wore our masks when we weren't eating or drinking but many of the customers didn't wear a mask at all. We are fully vaccinated but the advice now is to wear a mask indoors even if you are fully vaccinated. We probably won't go back to this particular Shack. Hopefully the other locations are following the CDC guidelines. read more

I ordered the "Make a Grown Man Cry" which is a breakfast burrito served on top of crispy hash browns and then smothered in white queso sauce. It has clearly earned its menu name! Definitely a fork n knife burrito and oh so delicious! Have someone in your life who can't eat gluten and you never know where to bring them?? The Shack has a complete gluten free menu! My sister-in-law (who has celiac disease) had giant, delicious-looking pancakes, sausage links, and a bowl of fruit. They do have the standard brunch cocktails -- mimosas, bloody Mary's. I am a self-described coffee snob and I thoroughly enjoyed their coffee! Their mugs all have funny sayings too. Mine said "there is a chance this may be whiskey." I am currently sitting in the waiting area for a table. 4 tables walked in after my party of 2 and have been sat. Apparently, if you check in ahead of time using Yelp you can skip ahead of the waitlist of people at the physical location. This would have been perfectly fine, but at no point was this expressed to us when we were told it would be 10 minutes for a table. Communication is key.
