As an RN who works close by, this particular location of The Shack has been a staple for me & my coworkers. Doesn't usually disappoint, until today when my coworker found a huge screw in her sandwich. This goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway -- she could have lost multiple teeth if she hadn't noticed the screw before biting into the sandwich, or worse, died a very painful, horrific death. The Shack is the perfect spot to head for those mornings when you wake up hungry. Their portion sizes are huge and their food is really tasty. This visit I got the "Please Dad, Don't Buy That Affliction Tshirt" which is a croissant sandwich with eggs, bacon and cheese. The croissant was really flaky and buttery. My partner ordered "Make a Grown Man Cry" which is a breakfast burrito with bacon, sausage, eggs, queso, and salsa. It had a little bit of spice, but wasn't over the top spicy. The morning started with great service from Victoria. Attentive and present as much as was needed. Drinks were really good and came with little wait. I got the breakfast empanadas, the special. The crust was perfectly flaky and not greasy. The filling was delicious and the cheese sauce was the best I've had in a long time. Tasted like real cheese sauce, not some canned goo. We shared the hash browns and were glad to have ordered them. REALLY tasty and had the right amount of crispy potatoes cooked just right. We have never had a bad dish here. I love the spacious, relaxed atmosphere. Depending on who you are, the booths may be too spacious or uncomfortable given the overly generous table to bench space ratio. I have also never had bad service at this location or the Chesterfield location. Everyone is consistently friendly and helpful with interesting menu items. I had the country fried steak today, and my husband had the Why the French Hate Us with a pancake on the side. Once I gave my eggs some salt, I loved my dish. Each piece, eggs, hash browns, and steak with gravy, was equally good and balanced together. My husband's dish was good as well. The coffee is very good and sourced from a local roaster. I appreciate that they leave a whole thermal carafe on your table regardless of how many in your party are actually partaking (in our case just one). My omelet (short rib) was not bad, but lacked flavor despite the addition of horseradish. I remedied hat by using the local hot sauce available on every table. read more

I came here on a Saturday afternoon and ordered ahead over an hour in advance. I showed up on time for my pick up and the girl on the phone informed me that everything was running 15 min late today. She asked if I could come back later to pick it up. I told her I had an appointment in 10 min and would just need to cancel my order. She placed me on hold and checked with her kitchen staff which said it would actually be ready in 5 minutes. This was such a relief and made a lot more sense since I had just ordered a single hash brown dish. By the time she brought it out to me I had to eat quickly before my appointment but that wasn't a problem since it was so good! They were spicy, flavorful, and delicious. This place is busy!!! We had to wait about 1.5 hours- but luckily we put on our names on the list before leaving our homes. Would highly recommend this especially on the weekend. The restaurant is big and the parking is easy. They have a coffee station you can use while you wait- after you pay for the coffee you can drink as much as you want. Once seated the service is great, quick and friendly. We ordered multiple dishes for our table for 4- some sweet and some savoury and all were great. Portions generous. Not sure if just an off day, but everything for our breakfast experience was bad. What was kind of a neat idea to let people write on the walls, has now morphed into a dirty environment. Using the bathroom at a restaurant should be spotless, however it was dirty, and disgusting, and this was at 7:30am when they weren't busy yet on Just 5th. We were seated in the area that the bartender had, so we were an afterthought. And, again, it wasn't busy at all. Our breakfast was not cooked as requested. Hash browns over cooked and served cold, maybe sat due to server distractions. Requested omelet cooked soft, but overcooked. The only thing that saved it was smothering butter over to moisten it. Toast was hard and cold. No reason to give this another try. Why spend money again after such a bad meal from an established restaurant? read more

I was first introduced to the Shack after receiving a gift card from a friend, and since then we've been back 2 more times! The Shack has several locations but I always go to the Frontenac one for convenience. It's great for a casual, fun, kid-friendly brunch/lunch, but keep in mind that it gets crowded even on weekdays and bigger groups will need to wait 20-40 minutes. I most recently went to the Shack last Friday for a weekday brunch with a group of 12 people. We waited about 25 minutes after arriving and unfortunately they couldn't move 2 tables together, so the closest we could sit was diagonally, which wasn't ideal. We were in the back room with the TV which was highly entertaining for my toddler. I like that they encourage drawing/writing with permanent markers on the tables, walls, and floors. I ordered the Starchy and Cluck again because fried chicken drizzled with honey and sandwiched between their fluffy waffles defines brunch for me. My eggs were perfectly medium well done as I requested and the portion size was just right along with the hash browns.The chicken could have been a little more crispy or breaded, but otherwise it was very well-flavored and went well with the waffles. In the past I've also really enjoyed the Huevos Rancheros plate and the Kitchen Sink Skillet. We'll be back the next time I'm craving chicken and waffles! read more

I came here with my brother and during the week it is nice. Not as busy which is great as well. The shack is one of those places for me that I don't want to go to every time I go for breakfast because in some ways they have fun breakfast selections but other ways they are weird and I sometimes just want plain French toast. I do recommend this place and it has never let me down. I just don't go all the time. I really like cinnamon raisin French toast. It's convenient because you can wait at home and watch your place in line change. The food: it's very good breakfast food. If you don't feel like cooking or are entertaining out of town guests, this is your spot. I'm giving it four stars because I thought it was a bit pricey.
