The double Smoke Stack was great. Nice, good thick piece of bacon and the patties were juicy. Also loved the rich chocolate taste from the chocolate shake that I got and will be back to try out the custard. A really good replacement for the Häagen-Dazs and Ghirardelli storefronts that closed last year. Fries were nice and crispy. The only problem I see folks having with this place is that there were so many employees standing in front but telling people to use the kiosk to order themselves. I was excited that this shake shack opened in the mall recently because I'm a fan of shake shack! I was thinking that it would be the same service as the larkspur landing location where there is the tablet and there's also cashiers to move the line faster. This location only has 2 tablets to order from and the line was long with no one doing the register. I doubt the food was prepared fresh because the food I ordered was somewhat cold. I ordered a lemonade that was the cranberry, fries, chicken sandwich and the Christmas cookie shake. There is only the area where the security checks your vaccination card to eat in the food court. I walked around and all the tables were full, I know San Francisco city and county has the mandate, but I felt uncomfortable with strangers with no social distancing! I ate my food in the corner where the closed cookware store used to be. I came here December 23rd before I did some last minute Christmas shopping. First of all high quality on the meat patty, and amazing fries with bacon. I have been coming here at least 2-3 times a week. Everything is normal until last week a male cook burned two patty in my double cheeseburger. I wasn't able to check, it was pick up order. Went home and start eating and two patty burned to crispy. I took photos and called the manager left and voice mail. Hours later no one responded, I decided make another trip drive to the restaurant and Lauren manager is on the site at the time. She handled the situation professionally was going to give me a refund the order, but I wanted to her make me a fresh double cheeseburger instead so they won't lose profit. I do like the ordering kiosks. The wait for my food wasn't too long, and my order was completed correctly. One of my favorite options of Shake Shack is their ability to customize based on my allergies! The food was exactly what I wanted and it was warm and fresh. I understand that it's important to have fun on the job, but it's a such thing as having too much camaraderie it's a very young location and it lacks real customer service i think its way too many employees there and most of them just try to look busy and that would be cool if they actually got the order right, the burgers are amazing but out of the 5 x I've been to this mall location you would think it wasn't so upbeat and playful with one another that the customer is just like secondary or an after thought. The vibe is so off at this location that I'm going to probably travel to cow hollow or emeryville. The management has to be under the age of 23. This Shake Shack location is in the food court of the Westfield Mall on Market St. I came here around 6:30 pm on a Saturday evening and the line was about 30 ft long. It moved reasonably quickly so I waited. Only the self-service kiosks were open for ordering, no one was staffing the registers. The first disappointment came when during the ordering process when I realized that I couldn't order the peppermint chocolate shake. I flagged down an employee to inquire about it and they said they were out of chocolate custard. With more than an hour until closing time, can't you make more of it? I changed my plan and ordered a Christmas cookie shake instead. Then the wait began. It took 20 minutes from placing the order to receiving it; note my order was not anything particularly large: two burgers, one box of fries, and one shake. When I finally received the text that it's ready, the employee still couldn't find it. Turns out they assumed I'll take my time in picking it up and texted me just as they were getting started on making the shake. When I sat down to eat, I had the final pair of negative surprises. While the shake burger was yummy, the shroom burger was much worse than what I've had at other Shake Shack locations. The mushrooms were impossible to bite through and kept flying out of the "patty." Moreover, the cheese that came with the fries was barely enough for half of the fries. Not sure when they started being so stingy with cheese, but it's not good look. I buy the cheese fries because I want cheese with them. Big thumbs down! The food court as any food court was rather loud and unclean. Not my first time at Shake Shack, but my first experience at this location. The line here is quite intimidating...especially considering they have a self-order system in place. Either they need more screens or they just need to have fewer tech issues. I know I had quite a few. Thought I'd try the limited edition spicy The Hot Ones burger with bacon. The bacon was crispy and not too greasy--how I like it. There's a lot of comments here about how spicy the sauce was and how it burned but I didn't even notice any heat until maybe half-way through the burger. Would def not rate it 2/3 peppers. Was more like "mild" IMO :P The fries were also perfectly done. I personally think the cup is too small for ketchup so I recommend 2x per fries order. Would be awesome if they could have some spice rubs and a bag for shaking the fries! Remember McDonald's used to have them? My friend's Smoke Shack Burger was too salty as well. Our burgers were also smaller than expected. My Chocolate Pie Milk Shake was okay, it just did not have enough chocolate flavor and was not very cold. Okay first the service is super slow and I get how it is because I work at a shake shack myself, but come on man my girlfriend asked for something and one of the workers just rolled her eyes and walked away. Not to mention that everything we got in our order was wrong or just down right missing. The food was poorly put together and tasted like metal. How that is possible genuinely baffles me. The fries were cold, hard and dry, so I asked the employees about it. They went and got another box that had been sitting in the warming area and confirmed with the back that those were "fresh" fries. The new box of fries was slightly warmer but also hard, dry, and overcooked (very dark in color). At that point, I just gave up. The boxes of fries had been sitting there for a while, and there were barely any customers so I'm not sure what their reason was for preparing that many boxes of fries. I have been trying to figure if I actually like or care enough about their food that I would make a trip of it and I honestly feel like there isn't anything that I find I really crave. The shake itself has a "fall/autumn" feel to it with the combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and apple. If you order ToGo, check it when you receive it! I have been to the downtown mall location 5 times, got orders wrong 5 times. Ordered AND PAID for DOUBLE burger, got SINGLE instead. Ordered mushrooms or bacon or NO cheese. Never got it right, and found out when I got back to the office or home. I have complained to the manager and to home office. They sent me a gift certificate which I never used. Not worth the trouble as I don't think their burgers are that good. I was downtown yesterday @ 1:00 pm, and decided to give them another try. Bad choice, when i got home order was wrong again! They gave me a single cheeseburger and it didn't have lettuce in it. When I ordered, i was second in line. When the cashier finished with the person in front of me, I moved to the register, and she left me standing there and moved right to giving people their orders. I stood there for several minutes waiting for someone to take my order. They have a machine to take your order, but I don't like to use them. She kept looking at me, all rushed withe the other lady that was delivering the orders. After a while, she realize that I was not going anywhere and I was not going to use the machine, then she said, "I will be right with you, sir". When she vane back, apologized for the wait and took my order. The machine broke down when I was going to pay. Had to wait again for the machine to reboot until i could pay. She went back to help the other lady packing the orders. I called her when the machine rebooted and she collected my payment. She clicked for me zero tip, I always leave a tip, as I know these employees make minimum wage. But there is no place to leave cash tips. By this lady's actions - running from place to place - I presume she is the manager. A manager is supposed to manage, not run all the work stations. It seems that this location is always under staffed. Especially at the noon rush. After they took my order, there were still like 10 persons waiting for theirs. Went to the S.F. Stonestown Shake Shack with 5 friends to give it a try. It's in the former Olive Garden location. Plenty of places to seat and most of the crowd appeared to be school aged. Tables were reasonably clean, and the staff seemed to be hard working. I tried a standard fried chicken burger with fried. The food did NOT work for me. The food was over processed and had no body or taste beyond salt. The fried chicken has been cooked in old, reused oil that left a bad taste in my mouth. I went home and brushed my teeth to get rid of the bad after taste. IF you like tasteless food that has been overprocessed you will love Shake Shack.
