Pros of In-N-Out: super customizable burger plus the secret menu is pretty cool. Their burgers are amazing! Cons of In-N-Out: Very limited menu. Pros of Shake Shack: they serve alcohol haha. The crinkle cut cheese fries are amazing. They offer gluten free buns if you are in to that. They have breakfast sandwiches in some location, as well as treats for your dog. Cons of Shake Shack: The terribly long lines (especially the Times Square location.. nightmare, you will never get a seat there). Sometimes the fries don't have enough cheese on them. Pros of Five Guys: Free peanuts. Cheapest out of the three. Cons of Five Guys: Too much peanuts. I always feel a little sick after eating there. I went to this location late at night (around 9:30pm) so it was not crowded at all. It was easy to get a table. However, we had to wait very very long to get our food. It was probably about 15 min. I am not sure why they took so long when it was not even crowded. I had the smoked burger which was ok, I prefer the ShackBurger. I also had the bacon cheese fries. This location must be running out of cheese, there was only enough cheese to cover a small portion of my fries. I like cheese to be strewn all over my fries! I have ordered from here twice this week and BOTH times they completely messed up the order. Multiple items were missing, food was ice cold and soggy (like it had been lying around all day), and I paid extra for customizations that were never included. It's like they don't even care at all what they put in your bag. It was missing all of what my friend ordered, his sandwich and fries were not in the bag. I couldn't decide between a hamburger and the portobello mushroom burger, so when I saw the option to have both on a single sandwich I went for it. This is fine if you're ordering in, but I experienced poor service. I had a promo for a free shake through the app, so in person I used the app. Not only did the app add a burger that I didn't clock on, it didn't register my promo and I ended up just paying for my shake. Ok, fine. I'm standing in the restaurant and I see the staff just milling about, talking and moving a few food boxes here and there. It's not crowded so there's not much to do, which made me assume I would get my shake quickly? Overall, I waited 25 minutes just standing there watching them not make my shake, then make it and leave it on the inside counter to get warm. Is 3.5 stars some type of joke? Shake Shack is fire. They have even upgraded some of the locations to have touch screen menus, which really cuts down the line, and makes the entire process of getting your food so much faster. The shakes are always incredible, and I am such a fan of how they rotate through so many specialty flavors. The burgers are amazing as well. I'm not sure what is in shack sauce, but I could bathe in that stuff and be happy. Fries are great plain, but you haven't lived until you've had the cheese and bacon fries. An avid fan of Shake Shack, we had to bring our friends from California here so that they could experience it for themselves. I will say that outside of this location, we had a hell of a time finding parking. We ended up paying $15 to park the car in a parking garage so we could eat here, but it was worth it! This place is incredibly fast and even though the lines were long and the place was packed, we were able to order quickly, and got our food in a quick amount of time as well. I recommend getting a side of cheese to dip the French fries in. The cheese sauce is amazing! On the west coast, we have In N Out Burger, and I hail Shake Shack as the In N Out of the east coast. Shake Shack has all the amenities of a great burger joint, plus some extras, like unique drinks and chicken options. Like many people, we stopped in for a late night snack after a night out. I was happily surprised to see a new addition the menu: the Hot Chicken. If you, like me, love a good hot chicken, this one is absolutely worth a try. Apparently, you can order it "super hot", which I only recommend if you have a penchant for punishment or singed taste buds. I got it regular and it was perfect. The chicken was tender and juicy while the crust was crispy and delectable. It was undoubtedly hot, but not overly so. It also came with some sort of slaw that cooled down the spiciness slightly. I am absolutely going to get this again. As for the burgers, let's be real, they're always incredible. Make sure to get the shack sauce for burgers and fries. read more

Went to Boston for the weekend with a group of friends to celebrate some of our birthdays and ended up coming here for a meal one afternoon. It was the first time my husband and I had been there so of course we had to get everything! We got cheese fries, burgers, drinks and shakes- soooo good. The space is a decent size and there are plenty of TVs with sports on, so its a great place to grab a quick bite. Some of our friends have been raving about shake shack, so we had to try it. The biggest reason they are getting 3 stars is for the value. You will pay a lot of money for what you get. The menu is a la carte and is a little hard to navigate. A burger will run you $6- $7 but then you have to pay $2- $3 for fries. The burger is like they took a Wendy's patty and put it on a McDonald's bun, sauce, and toppings. Which it has good flavor, but not worth $6. Well, on the one hand... I always enjoy good service. I happened to try it at the height of rush hour. The line was out the door. But there was a Shake Shack employee watching the line and putting people in the velvet ropes in an organized manner. I like that. The line moved reasonably quickly and I got like a beeper thing so I didn't have to stand up close to know when my order was ready. It was ready within 5 minutes too. Excellent customer service. I see a lot of complaints about service but I feel like maybe they fixed the problem. But . . . it was over priced and not that good. The burger was just a burger. The burger is kind of small. Fine I like small but I don't expect $5.00 for a small burger. The fries were fine and there was a decent amount but over all, over 8 dollars for a burger and fries is a bit much. I probably will be back as there isn't a ton of places to get lunch in the Seaport District, but I probably won't eat there every day. As a tip.. when I came along and saw the line out the door I almost left and a few other people did leave. But that really isn't any indication how long the line is inside. There is room for about 10 people inside. I think the owner should probably come up with a better configuration so that people in line are inside before the winter. Also it does have a pretty surprisingly large "dining area" that wraps around the side (with a door on the side) so you can likely find a place to sit even if the ordering line is out the door. read more

This was my first foryay into Shake Shack. I haven't been to many places where there is a Shake Shack and when I saw this was about 10-15 mins from the airport, I knew I had to try it! I had the shack stack - a shack burger and mushroom burger stacked into one. It was really yummy but also really intense. Because of the fried cheese and all of that. Next time, I would just double up the shack burger or something. The fries were just OK - frozen crinkle cut variety, nothing special. The shakes though, man! The shakes were next level! I had salted caramel, the wife had Dulce de Leche. These were some of the best shakes I have ever had. Comparing to a place like an In N Out, In N Out has them beat on burgers but Shake Shack wins in the Shake department. I would definitley go to Shake Shack again, but maybe after dinner for a shake since that is really what is special about them. read more

But that aside, literally every single free table (which was over half the restaurant) looked disgusting. Hire someone to walk around and wipe the tables when people leave or else I will avoid this place like the plague.
