I stopped in after hearing all the hype and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the interior looked. I sorta wanted to try the whole menu so we ended up getting a shack burger, a chicken shack, crinkle fries, and a concrete. Their chicken was delicious. The sauce was so flavorful, the bun was soft, the chicken was all white meat and perfectly cooked. I'm not much of a burger person, but I snagged a couple bites and it was tender and flavorful. My favorite part were the fries. Super crispy but fluffy on the inside, I could have eaten an entire order by myself. Lastly, the concrete was chock full of mix ins and you can't go wrong with frozen custard. I've had their burgers back in DC and I was happy to hear that they were coming to Cary. I went as soon as they opened and it was great. If you like smashed burgers then you will definitely like their smashed burgers. They offer smashed burgers, fries, concretes, and hot dogs. They have a large space with seating inside and outside in the back. They also have dog treats that you can get off the menu! Overall, I am really happy they made their way to Cary. I had heard a lot of positive buzz regarding the famous NYC based Shake Shack and upon hearing they had opened an outpost in Cary, I was eager to give it a try. I purposely waited a few months after they opened to visit because I had heard they were drawing big crowds, but when I found I was near the Waverly Place shopping center, I knew I had to stop in! Let me start by saying this is a nice location with the newly renovated Waverly Place. The building is modern and there were plenty of tables. If the weather were nice outside seating would be a great option also. I ordered the double shack burger, crinkle fries, and a chocolate shake. The tally for my meal was $17.29. (NYC establishment, NYC prices!) The burger was very good, with the double patties of meat, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and their signature sauce. The fries were filling, but really nothing special. The shake was good but at a price of $5.19 I have to paraphrase Vincent (John Travolta) in Pulp Fiction ("GD this is a pretty effin good milkshake. I don't know if it is worth $5 but it is pretty effin good!). I was impressed with the food and location. At the price point, I doubt I will be a regular (plus I don't get to Cary too often). I do recommend giving them a try, however, and I am glad Shakeshack decided to bring their burgers to RDU! read more

Shake Shack is delicious! Like soooo good. There special sauce is the thing that dreams are made of. Their burgers are flavorful and crisp around the edges, which is such an interesting finish to a burger, but I kind of love it. Crinkle fries are nostalgic for me and are a great guilty pleasure to top off a meal like Shake Shack, if you're going to go, you might as well go big! And the fries are the perfect way to do this. I also tasted the milkshake my husband got, and oh my goodness! It was creamy and had lots of cookies & cream to make it not just vanilla custard with some flavors, but a true milkshake experience. The only down part to my experience is it seems like they are still ironing out the wrinkles of the operation, so the service was a little slow and the employees were still learning the ropes. This is the new game in town and if you like newness it's the bomb. The decor is very chic and trendy; it's a nice place to go, meet friends and kick it. The counter staff were good people and I can't say anything bad about them. There's a nice outside terrace that offers a comfortable view depending on the time of day but because it's new Shake Shack is working out the kinks, the logistics of how to do things. For example standing in line. I had the misfortune to have to stand outdoors in the late summer's hot sun but it sure looked to me like there was plenty of room for the line to form inside. Ugh... The bottom line is the food and its value and in this category the Shake Shack was lacking. I wanted their cheese fries which I couldn't have because they were missing the key ingredient....... cheese. I felt like those people who wait in line at McDonald's for a milkshake only to be told at the counter their machine is broken or worse waiting in line at Popeye's to get their new chicken sandwich only to be told they're out until the end of the month. Just not cool but you soldier on as did I and settled for normal fries but I was bargaining for something a little better than the kind of fries you'd find in any supermarket frozen food section which is what Shake Shack gave me. The food snapped in the photo below, just as you see it, for me and my guests, without anything to drink came to $24 and change; that's two shackburgers, a shackago chicken sandwich and two servings of fries. For an ordinary working person I think that's a bit high for a mid week lunch but if you like footing that kinda bill and eating mediocre food in a really nice, brand new place Shake Shack just might be for you. This is by far one of the best burger joint in the area. I'm not sure what exactly is in the shack sauce but it's delicious. The fries were OK but a little bland. The chicken bites were well-cooked and tasty, but the barbecue sauce was an odd flavor and I wound up just eating them dry. The ice cream in the concrete I got was strangely gritty - like it was freezer burned. Concrete was delicious! Would very much so recommend it. I had a double shackburger and I'm gonna be honest and say that although their burgers and fries are good I feel like they're being overhyped. It wasn't bad but it wasn't life changing or unique either and it's pretty expensive for something that wasn't unique. I decided to go with some of my friends the week they opened up. So, I waited an hour just to order. The food came out relatively fast though (~5 mins). I've never been to a shake shack before, but the food was pretty much fast food I've tasted before. I didn't like my visit there initially because of the long wait, but once the line doesn't start out the door I think I would enjoy going there. I had the shack burger, shack-cago dog, fries, and a 24oz beer. The shack burger was good for the sauce, but nothing else really stood out. The shack-cago dog was nothing special to me. Just a regular hotdog with some extra toppings. The fries are crinkle cut you could get from the store. They have two beers (only one on the menu) but I like having the option to drink so it's a plus for me. I spent about $20 on all that food, and I wasn't completely full but more content. I at least liked the outside patio and the quick service, so it's a decent place to go to chill. Overall, I think I need to go again when the wait is a lot shorter. read more

Great location with outdoor seating. There's a scenic water fountain right next to the restaurant. Most of the staff was courteous and helpful! Food was fresh and delicious. Loved the bourbon bacon burger, had tons of flavor. Fries were perfectly crispy. Shakes were delicious, though could maybe be a tad thicker as we got the malted options. Sauces are good and didn't cost anything additional! Only small downside was was one staff member who didn't know what a menu item was (the purple cow float) and refused to find out for us. His answer was "we don't have it," even though it didn't say sold out on the menu. We had to flag down another staff member to get an answer. When I came back to order additional food, he was at the cashier on his phone and said only the other register (which was attending to other customers) was taking orders... though he could've clearly taken my order. I got the double stack and the patties were perfectly grilled, all the vegetables perfectly placed with perfect amount of sauce. YUM. I also got the cheesy fries which were DELICIOUS. Probably one of the worst burgers that I've had in Raleigh... TERRIBLE. Didn't realize the hamburger came with zero toppings and not once did the person taking my order ask/mention anything about it. I guess it was written on the menu, but it's not usual to slap plain greasy un-pattied hamburger on a bun and call it food. If you want an un-seasoned pile of hamburger meat and really need to waste some time and money, this is your spot. I couldn't be dragged here again, one and done. The first time I'd ever been to Shake Shack, back in Madison Square Park when it was still a novelty, I didn't get what all the fuss was about. I waited in that huge line and thought I must be about to get an amazing burger. The burger was tasty, but honestly I still don't know why people regularly line up out the door for these burgers. So today I found myself among those people lined up out the door at the new Cary location, now that I live in NC and think it's nice that a Shake Shack has opened here. The Shack Burger and cheese fries were as expected. I enjoyed them. The concrete was disappointing. I ordered the Pie Oh My. The custard itself was largely melted, and the chunks of peach and pie were weirdly big and difficult to eat. I got served cold cheese fries during one visit (they were still frozen), and I experienced pretty bad service on my first visit. The space is nice with an open floor plan I really like, and it's nicely ventilated so it doesn't get smoky inside. Unfortunately, they didn't do such a great job with the hiring- the employees seem annoyed to be there, minus a few. Even after three weeks there is still a line out the door. My coworkers wanted to give it try for lunch since everyone has been raving about it. The food was good but definitely OVERPRICED. I paid $10 for a small chicken sandwich, fries and no drink. We got there around 11:45, before the lunch crowd and the service was still unbelievably slow. I have gone to Shake Shack several times in NYC and was happy to have this one open so close to my house!! My standard Shackburger was as expected, although the patty seemed a little smaller and less "together". "Less together" is actually a good phrase. This location is "less together" than what I expected. That was my biggest disappointment. For example, we also ordered 2 SmokeShacks -- one came with bacon and one did not. Really? The place was moderately busy - short line but folks coming in still - this was around 8:30pm. Service was NOT fast. Fries were sitting under the heat lamp before we ordered and were given to us after we waited 15 mins for our order. And did I mention we waited 15 mins? Shake Shack is an exciting and welcome addition to the Triangle area, but they definitely have some kinks to work out. I went to try it out with my family on a Sunday evening about a week and a half after opening. The line was outside wrapped around the building, and it took about 50 minutes between getting in line to receiving our food. We were disappointed to learn (after waiting a while) that they were out of quite a few menu items - the shroom burger, many concrete toppings, and most disappointing for me, cheese sauce. I was most looking forward to my cheese fries and a concrete, so those were a big bummer. I got a chicken sandwich and it was okay, but I prefer Chick-fil-A. I know it's a burger place, so a decent chicken sandwich is fine. The fries were great, crispy on the outside but light on the inside. Only would've been better if they had cheese on top! :) I ordered a build your own concrete, despite there being no signage that said you could do that. I only knew from visiting other locations. I ordered vanilla with marshmallow and cookie DOUGH... and received vanilla with marshmallow and cookie BUTTER. It was still good, but I was really looking forward to the cookie dough. The receipt didn't indicate any of my toppings ordered, and they were still so busy I didn't bother disputing it. Lastly, they didn't have any ranch, which is something I think any burger/chicken/fry place should have. Not sure what all the hype was about....good marketing I guess. The burgers were surprisingly small and average flavor. I've had better burgers at so many other places than this, totally unimpressed. One burger place that comes to mind is Abbey Road Tavern and Grill (10X better burgers than Shake Shack, not even a fair fight). The fries are big enough to split between two people. The burger was simple, yet phenomenal!!! The atmosphere in Shake Shack is warm and friendly.
