We have never had a bad meal here (been maybe 5 or 6 times). The staff is wonderful - courteous, kind, and accommodating. When we're feeling like a long dinner, we'll sit and go through three or four courses. If we want a short evening, we'll sit at the bar and have a quick bite. Everything is beautifully prepared. My husband says the best Beef Wellington he's ever had was made at Shamus. I can't contest that - it was delicious. The atmosphere is both pub and upscale restaurant combined. Visited Shamus for lunch with my husband and son during a recent visit to the Erie Canal locks in Lockport. What a pleasant experience--cloth tablecloths during lunch! The restaurant was crowded with a mix of retirees, business people, and visitors to the area. The staff was friendly and competent, the food delicious, and the prices reasonable. My sister took me here for lunch one day, this is where "the ladies that lunch" go to lunch. The building is old, you can tell this place has been here for awhile. We had the lobster bisque and salad, my sister loves this the lobster bisque. The lobster bisque is thick, rich and creamy, no skimping on lobster here. The salad was crisp, green and good, I had mine with 1000 dressing (don't normally order) and there was also bread with butter also good. I do wished I had tried something else since once I saw what other diners had ordered, I wanted what they had, but that is just the way I am; always wanting someone else's lunch. . The atmosphere is pure NY here, the hostess is all NY too. This is place where you know the martinis are good (I should have ordered one). When I visit again I will. Finding Shamus was a nice surprise for us, since we don't often head up to Lockport for dinner. It was definitely worth the trip, if you're looking for a civilized and dignified yet fun dining experience. Guinness on tap, of course. I had duck breast, and it was the best I've ever tasted--so rich, I thought it must be steak. It was served with a flavorful risotto and crisply grilled asparagus. Other diners in our group had salmon with fries and a reuben sandwich with homemade potato chips. Everything hit the spot. The service was polite and attentive, but bear in mind that this place gets quite busy, so it may not be easy to catch your server for incidentals. Their salad dressings are homemade. Nice selection of specials and desserts. Shame on us for not trying this place before. read more

I wish I could give more stars to Shamus, since the food was pretty good, yet by the time it came, we were too annoyed to really care. We ordered coffee and that didn't even come for twenty minutes or so. It seemed like we waited over an hour before any food at all came. At that point, we had complained about the service, and to their credit, they definitely seemed to make an effort at that point--the manager (I think) came over and assisted the waitress in bringing us our food, apologizing for the wait, but that didn't exactly fix everything. I would certainly not bring my family back here, since the whole experience was pretty irritating and they still remember it negatively. read more

All three of us ordered the Saturday Prime Rib and it was outstanding - all of us agreed! As good of a flavor as I can remember in a prime rib. The seating area was a bit tight but we had a very nice corner table so we didn't notice. Appears to be a converted historic home. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Our stuffed mushroom appetizer came quickly and was awesome. My seafood pie was very good and my wife's seared scallops were excellent. You should try the mashed potatoes with peppers and onions that are pan fried before serving - really good! Was too full for dessert, but selection was tempting. Service was spot on, no waiting for anything, and the manager checked in with us after the entrees were served. Although the place is named Shamus and there is a BIG green clover on the sigh, there were no Irish selections. I ended up setteling on a Beef on Weck, which was very good. Staff are the best feature - attentive, competent and friendly. Service was prompt. Food was mediocre - prime rib steak was cooked as requested, but at least half was fat and left on plate. Sides were spartan - baked potato was plain, no chives, butter, bacon bits, etc provided.. My wife's seafood was plain as well. The two mixed drinks were below average - bartending skills not evident. Dinner for two, withut a bottle of wine, was $100 - no bargain. read more

Number one, Shamus is spelled incorrectly by Irish terms. It's supposed to be Seamus. Other reviewers state it's cozy, it sure is if you like being cozy with other tables. The table they put me on was almost on top of two other tables. Couldn't move to eat. Then I looked at the menu anticipating Irish Fare but there was nothing at all Irish on the menu. They had one item named a hot Englishman, which any Irish pub worth it's salt would not be found anywhere but the trash can. I then looked at the prices for the lunch and we got up and left. One star is all they get for being overpriced for being so phony. read more

We had an enjoyable experience here. My fiance ordered the prime rib and I ordered the baked chicken. We started out with stuffed bannana peppers and scallops with Carmelized onions as starters. The food was perfect to include the service. We stopped at the bar afterwards and the bartender skillfully made me a Tom collins. My fiance enjoyed his black and tan Guinness. Atmosphere was cozy. I cannot say enough about the Shamus restaurant - I absolutely LOVE it!!! It's always been one of my favorite places - cozy atmosphere, wonderful food, the Harps are always cold, and the service is always courteous, friendly and quick!! By far the best Reuben sandwich I have ever had (and I've tried a few!). My baby shower was held in the upstairs room, and I would not have had it any other way!! Love this place!! We held my daughter's high school graduation celebration in the private room upstairs. There were 17 of us and it was perfect! For appetizers we had bacon wrapped scallops and stuffed mushrooms. They were delicious and hot. The food was beautifully presented and outstanding. Everyone raved about their meals. The favorite dish was the Alaskan King Crab Risotto but I preferred the bone-in pork chop. The staff was helpful and accommodating. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a private party. We are new to Lockport and so this was our first time visiting Shamus but it definitely won't be our last. We came on a whim on a Tuesday night and the place was very quiet and cozy. I loved the decor/atmosphere it was very welcoming and warm. Our server(s) were great, and the food was excellent. My boyfriend got the Osso Bucco and I got the Tenderloin with garlic & bleu cheese crust. Looking forward to coming back in the Spring/Summer and dining on the patio. read more

I have enjoyed Shamus Restaurant for several years for lunch and have encouraged family and friends to dine there. This last time, however, despite the delicious roast beef on foccacia bread/pasta salad which my daughter-in-law and I loved, and the cajun fish platter which my daughter enjoyed, I must regretfully award only three stars. Here's why: - despite the fact that the restaurant was not filled to capacity, our waitress took an inordinate amount of time to return to our table to take our orders, approximately ten to fifteen minutes! She should have noticed as she passed our table many times to attend to other patrons that our menus were closed and we were ready to order; - we had to request napkins at our table when our food arrived and our waitress did not apologize for that oversight; - ordinarily, waitresses check in with a table at least once during a meal to make sure the patrons are satisfied with their choices. This did not occur; - the waitress did not ask if I would like more coffee during our meal; only when my other family members ordered coffee with their dessert was my coffee cup refilled; - when our check was brought to our table, it was yet another ten to fifteen minutes before the check/credit card were retrieved from our table; by that time, we were the only patrons in the restaurant and were seated very close to where the waitresses could see our table. The food was delicious, as it always has been. The atmosphere with the white tablecloths and pleasant ambiance is relaxing. Perhaps we encountered a new waitress who, when she hones her skills will be as efficient, aware of patron needs, and friendly as I have experienced in all my past visits, so I am not giving up on Shamus and will return to give the restaurant another chance. read more
