We have lived in Lockport our whole lives and can't believe we haven't been to shamus, the hidden gem of Lockport before. We loved the atmosphere, it felt so cozy and warm. We walked in without reservations but the hostess was super helpful and managed to get us a nice table in the corner. We could not stop talking about how good the food was. We got the stuffed poblano pepper and we will be back just to have it again. It was so good, it wasn't spicy and had tons of flavor, I would highly recommend it to anyone. Our entrees were just as good. The Reuben had real corn beef and it tasted so fresh, it was delicious. Our waitress Gina, was super accommodating considering our table was isolated but we never felt forgotten and she took great care of us. We can't wait to go back!! read more

Today was probably my 10th time eating at Shamus and I have never be disappointed by a meal or service there. The bread, butter and oils that come out before your meal are so delicious that I could just go and eat that for dinner. However, the best part is yet to come with each entrée. I've tried their chicken pot pie, buttermilk fried chicken, baked haddock, burgers, homemade chips, soups, signature cocktails, fresh salads made with lettuce from local farms, and even their Thanksgiving dinner! Special occasions like their St. Patrick's Day block party and brass bands on the patio aren't just fun, they're memorable. Mother's Day brunch is also a hoot. If you like Shamus for lunch and dinner, you will love their early morning options on special brunch days. Hint: order the croque madame. I used to frequent this place when I was eighteen and so was the drinking age. It's original location was a block away from it's present one. It was charming, the new location is charming as well but now it is oh so Cosy. In spite of ownership changes the food was always good. The most recent owner threw the switch and now the food is no longer good, it is great. Their menu is not cliche and the specials are delightful. There are many Bar/ Restaurants like this which do just fine providing an Irish ambience. Celtic Beers on draught, outstanding whiskies from the " Ould Sod " and music with tin whistles, you know the drill. This fine restaurant is so much more. The waitstaff is veteran, the Chef is first rate and the owner is dedicated. Physical changes are in store. New outdoor seating, new restrooms and a larger kitchen. Shamus Restaurant only gets three stars despite the incredible food and presentation and cozy atmosphere. The parking lot holds about 10 cars, max. All others park at your own risk on the street; the walk to and from the restaurant can be very dark and cold, depending on how far you have to park. Last thing I want when I'm hungry is to hassle with on-street parking. The service was slow and inconsistent. Our water only received refills when prompted, which was difficult because no one walked by hardly at all. It was a very long wait just to have the waitress come over and introduce herself and ask if we'd like drinks, by which time we already had our orders ready to place. The entrance into the restaurant is very tight and uncomfortable. Having grown up with my father being an architect, first thing that comes to mind when entering the building: "Is this to code?" There are a half a dozen chairs lining the wall opposite the staircase when you walk in. To get by when people are sitting in said chairs reminds me of being in a crowded church pew. The person sitting must turn their legs sideways and you must walk parallel to them and shimmy by. How awkward! And the stairs going up look steep and narrow; thank goodness we didn't have to attempt the ascent! We were seated near the entrance, which wasn't terrible at all. On positive notes, the service was friendly and helpful. I was too engrossed in conversation with my dinner partner to be concerned about the tardiness of the service, but I can see how it would prove frustrating if I had a hungry family as my company! The service was accommodating, as I had asked to substitute salad and veggie for fries and coleslaw with my fish dinner. Our waitress was happy to do so. Our food came out fairly quickly and was presented cleanly, meaning no over-saucing, over-breading, over-loading the plate. You become so accustomed to sloppy, gloppy, heavy food. It was a wonderful experience to have just enough fish and a clean presentation of mashed butternut squash. The flavors were very good, too! A perfect blend of sweet and savory on my plate. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and hometown feeling. The bar was in another room, so the noise level wasn't too bad, though it did get loud when we left, around 9:30pm (on a Friday). Prices were decent; there was a $1.50 fee for substituting salad instead of coleslaw; not bad. All said and done, including a cocktail and an entree from the Specials menu, expect to pay $25-$30/head. I expect to come back here in the future, just not when I'm feeling famished or impatient! read more

Shamus on You! I cant say enough about Shamus Restaurant. Its very Irish in there! It was just like I was in Ireland if I'd ever been there, which I haven't, so I'm just kind of assuming its like Ireland. The food was delicious but I had to split my meal with Gramma because I dont make a lot of money and Gramma never pays for her own meals. Good thing I left the kids' home with the babysitter and a can opener. Do they always play that music in restaurants like this? The fanciest place in Lockport! It's a delight. The blackened jumbo sea scallops are my favorite thing to get here. They're sweet and a little bit spicy. Who doesn't love caramelized onions?! The atmosphere is quiet and cozy. It almost reminds me an Irish grandparents house. I like it. On our last visit, I ordered an after meal Irish coffee and they sang happy birthday to me while they served it. It was just a regular happy birthday song, not anything obnoxious or embarrassing. We went to Shamus over the weekend, after a day of wine tasting. It was wonderful - I can't say enough!! The atmosphere is quaint, and comfortable. The dresscode was casual. So a little dressed up, or dressed-down is acceptable. It is surprisingly busy, yet the noise of other diners never seems to creep into your dining space. You can have have a conversation in low tones and be understood. The service was attentive without being sufficating and the food was delicious! I was super full - because I didn't stop myself. Hometown favorite! I went here all the time when I was younger with my friends and my friends parents. It's a family owned business so everyone there is so friendly and the service is great. I love having their speciality cocktails. They are so tasty and the prices are so reasonable. Same goes for their food prices. For everything you get you can't go wrong. All their food is also awesome. Last time I went I had the French Onion Soup along with the lighter fare steak. I like that it was on the light side so I could save room for my dessert! We split a raspberry white chocolate cake that they have had on their menu for a while now. I was so happy it was still there because it has always been my favorite! Came here on a Monday night with friends. Such a pleasant experience! Service was excellent, food was outstanding, and ambiance is wonderful. The salad is extra delicious, not sure why but YUM! I ordered salmon and it was PERFECTLY cooked. Baked potato and veggie sides were tasty too. Also, they do no have happy hour but drink prices are extremely reasonable. I didn't drink but my friends did and each drink was around $4. That's a great price! I can't wait to come back for more delicious food!! I think the key to better service is to come on Monday-Thursday, when there is no party upstairs. My brother-in-law works in the restaurant business and said the freshest seafood is usually delivered on Thursday, so that'd be a great time to go! Seafood is what they seem to do best here. We stopped here this afternoon for an early supper. The owner Ann Murphy and her daughter took excellent care of our every need. Our meals were fresh and superbly prepared. The crab cakes could have more spice, the lobster bisque was great, but nothing in the vein of WOW..... still, i liked it. The outdoor table area is sweet and comfortable. The wait staff was superb. I wanted to sit with a friend I hadn't seen in almost a year and we weren't badgered by the waitress to hurry up and order. Plus points there. The wine list needs to be updated (that the Estancia is the only decent wine on the list is not a good start for an evening). The Herman Weimar outside of Rochester would be an EXCELLENT choice for their menu. Remember, this is an award winning wine by a German who came to America to PROVE that an excellent Cabernet Franc could be created in America. Let's give the man a hand here. My husband and I had dinner at Shamus for the first time about a month ago. We had a delicious dinner on their beautiful patio. When my husband was planning my birthday dinner this month, he decided to call Shamus to have it catered. We chose food from the Comfort Food drop off buffet. It was outstanding! The fried chicken was a huge hit, and the Guinness Pot roast was the most delicious pot roast we ever had. All of the sides were fabulous..fresh mixed green salad, beautiful seasonal vegetables, wonderful Mac and cheese, creamy mashed potatoes and the fluffiest biscuits! All of our guests loved the menu, and gave high compliments for the food. My husband dealt with Ann, who was very accommodating and easy to work with. After years of living close by and being enticed by the wonderful smells I decided to walk in with some friends. I had always brushed the place off and I definitely regret doing that. The menu isn't massive so I suggest checking it out online before going. I order a bacon burger and soup and both were delicious. My friends ordered the dessert which was a type of cinnamon roll with ice cream, which they said were amazing. The restaurant is a little more pricey but it is well worth it. I ordered the hot and spicy Crispy Chicken Tender Sandwich for lunch. I would've taken a picture of it, but I was so hungry that I forgot. First, it was huge! Second, it was absolutely delicious! The sauce was amazing and it was cooked perfectly. I usually order the fish fry here (it's the best in the area!), but something told me to try this sandwich and I am so glad I did. Even with the limited menu, what was brought to the table wasn't what was specified on the menu when it came to some of the sides. No attempt by server to rectify and barely offered an excuse. Had a great extended family banquet, in a large private area upstairs. Fine, attentive service and food came out surprisingly quickly for a group of 11. Nice apps including excellent stuffed mushrooms, broiled scallops and potato pancakes. The bread tray had fine selection of breads with 2 flavored butters and seasoned oil. We then ordered a wide variety of meals....i had a fine lobster bisque with the seafood pot pie....very flavorful with crust of puff pastry. Others enjoyed their selections, including the twin filets and spinach arugula salad. A few had desserts including pumpkin creme brule and peanut butter ice cream pie. We decided to stop in on a Thursday night about 5 PM. No other customers were there yet, a couple more came in as we were finishing up. The atmosphere is very nice and comfortable. The waiting staff was polite, she even had a great wine recommendation for me, and checked in on us just enough. The owner came by and asked how our meal was. The French onion soup was amazing! My fiance ordered the lobster bisque and that was good as well. His steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare and had a generous amount of blue cheese on top. I got the seafood risotto which I thought was good. My seafood was cook perfectly but i personally felt the risotto could have been just a little creamier.
