Rarely does my wonderful husband buy me jewelry so I cherish it when he does. My husband purchased a beautiful pearl bracelet for me, but it was too small. He returned to the store (trip #2) to get it redone and they made him purchase two pairs of pearl earrings to get the pearls from, to the tune of $337.18. The new pearls were not the same size or color as the ones on the bracelet. He returned to pick up the bracelet (trip #3) The new pearls had to be drilled out to put on the bracelet. The person who did the drilling wasn't skilled as we could see chips on the ends of these pearls. In addition to the shoddy work the bracelet was way too long. We returned to the store (trip #4) where I was sized for the bracelet. We decided that just one pearl would suffice to add the needed length. My husband returned today (trip #5) to pick up the bracelet. Upon returning home, I could immediately see that the bracelet was not strung properly and ended up being the same length as the original one purchased. Come on! Either they lost some of the pearls or the shoddy work of not double knotting between each pearl shortened the bracelet and didn't add the needed length. (The pearls actually move over the knots.) i had a great experience buying my lady's engagement ring here. allyson was a phenomenal help and explained everything so well. i really enjoyed working with her and she genuinely seemed excited for me and wanted me to know everything i needed to know (maybe she sensed i had no idea what i was doing). plus, she's so down to earth. she would greet me with a "hey man!" whenever i walked in. i'd highly recommend her if you see her there. they made the whole process so painless and they have such a great warranty, it's totally worth some of the extra cost as i was looking at some other less expensive options. my only complaint is that there was some poor follow-through and not so much communication on any updates on the ring. i did have to call in a couple times to figure out what the status was with the ring, but they were great every time i called. i really don't expect to purchase another engagement ring, but i would really recommend this place if you're looking for an engagement ring. unless your uncle owns a shady jewelry store that you can get a good cheap ring at, this place is definitely worth a visit. read more

Before selecting my fiancés engagement ring, I visited all of the major jewelry places nearest to my home, i.e. Zales, Kay and some local places. Next, like the Shane Co radio commercials suggested, I visited them in Walnut Creek an hour and a half from my house. The ring they helped me to select is absolutely gorgeous. A pleasant customer service experience and a fairly knowledgeable staff about the rocks they carry. Prices are probably a hair above industry standard but not bad by any means and you are buying one hell of a guarantee/warranty with their products. Free cleaning, resizing, stone tightening, stone replacement and repair if they fall out or get damaged, and a guarantee of the appraisal value you paid, meaning you will get no less than what you paid to put towards an upgrade later on, but will get the value of it increases. These are outstanding qualities for a jeweler to offer. No other jeweler does. Helzberg comes close but you have to pay extra for their service plan, and they are already more expensive. My only recommendation is if you are picky and hard to please like i am, let them know so they can take extra precautions to make sure they meet your expectations for pick up. Only reason i don't give them a full 5 stars is they don't have a whole lot of stores so if i ever decide to move out of the area, getting my bi-yearly services to maintain the warranty will be a pain. read more

Went in the first time in january this you to check it out and found something i like. the sales reps were wonderful help and i found something i liked, and i knew that things were going to see and ill never see them again and everything is always different. Well a month later after valentines my fiance took me back to get our offical wedding bands and my real engagement ring and we told the sales reps the two rings i feel in love with, and sadly they sold them, but the man found a wedding set that had the two combined in a way and i fell in love. Then we picked my fiances ring and also the diamond right there. We were there for about an hour, and he said my ring would be ready in TWO HOURS! so we went around town and checked things out and came back to pick it up. it was BEAUTIFUL! 2 days later my fiances ring was finished. the only issue was my diamond looked funny for a moment so i brought it in two weeks later, and the guy fixed it in 3 minutes. The prongs were not tight enough and they cleaned it. Easy fix. nothing to worry about and the diamond was NOT going to fall out. i just swear i saw it moving. and they fixed it! read more

We went to get rings cleaned which has always been a 10 minute ordeal. Today, the person who helped us took it to the back and disappeared for an hour. Others were in and out getting service for fifteen minutes max. After an hour had passed, a different representative asked to see if we had been helped. While my experience buying the ring may have been ok at best, the upkeep and dealing with them afterwards has been a nightmare. The ring I used to propose had a stone fall out immediately after she put it on. The stones kept on falling out so we went back to replace them and they did, but, that didn't solve the problem. So we were told it would happen for the rest of the time she owned it. We were very upset as anyone would be until we were told another option was possible. They would remake the ring from scratch and the main stone would be carried over which ended up happening. They told us to come by on August 17th for pickup and now there're telling us it's not ready until the 19th. Worst place ever, regretting even coming here to begin with. read more

We have always been treated with great respect (even when I've come rushing in wearing sweatpants, smelling like the Chinese food I just ate), and all sales associates we've ever dealt with have been helpful. They weren't phased either, by the several times we came just to look, try on, and get a feel for what styles we liked. Their repair work and cleanings have been more than acceptable to me so far, too. Example: I lost a small stone from a bracelet (my fault, basically), but they replaced it and made the bracelet like new again---FOR FREE. I feel that the silly radio ads really do live up to their name--an array of price points for beautiful jewlry and diamonds, all at reasonable prices, and with friendly staff who don't act hungry for a commission. Wedding band shopping experience: excellent. My fiancé and I only shopped one time before for bands and it was just on a whim while we were at the mall. The store we went to for sure didn't have as much variety as Shane. When we first went we thought we would have a clue as to what we wanted but we were proven very wrong after trying on a few rings. Being very new to wedding band shopping, starting with a few choices was a good way to get our feet wet without overwhelming us but even at that, among the choices it was very hard to tell what we really liked or just which styles we leaned towards more. At Shane as soon as we walked in we were greeted and our jeweler was ready to help us explore all the different choices. She made it really easy to filter out what didn't look right and encouraged me to look at all the choices because you never really know until you try it on and are able to give a style a definite yay or nay. She really took the time and didn't try to rush us at all. She was really informative especially with helping my fiancé as he does not wear jewelry at all. I think it's much harder for a non-jewelry wearer to choose than someone who does and she made it so easy. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were quite a lot of people shopping but as our jeweler was helping us, her undivided attention made it seem like it wasn't crowded at all. Everyone seems pretty good about helping customers without overcrowding people at a single area at once. The unpretentious low-key atmosphere made it very comfortable to shop. When you don't shop regularly for big jewels some fancy bougie jewelry shops can be intimidating. Shane's advertisements is really no lie, they are really your jewelry shopping friend and I would definitely be happy to come back, even come alone and feel comfortable. As we were shopping she even had my engagement right cleaned and it was so sparkly. It looked brand spankin new and the diamond even looked even bigger! We got to take my fiancé's ring home that day and a week after I went to pick mine up. I was in and out in a breeze. Customer service is excellent here. Luckily, I have been doing my wedding band homework for weeks and knew exactly what I wanted. I had been in many stores looking for a channel set, round diamond wedding band with 8-10 diamonds. Somewhere between .5-1 ct. Good color, great sparkle and clarity for a smaller diamond still counts for me. And the setting was the most important. Some rings I had tried at other stores had different spacing between each diamond, or the band was open in the back. So even though, I was wearing my play clothes that day, I didn't let that stop me from taking charge. I had read the reviews and had some mixed ideas of going in. The sales team was standing in a cluster of 3 when we first walked in socializing, so I'm glad we got our guy Todd, who was very helpful when I told him exactly what I wanted. My concern is that my engagement band is 8mm wide, so I needed a band that could match up to the heft of my existing band (not some flimsy thing) and only be 3mm-3.5mm wide. We bought the 1 ct band with 10 diamonds (which was perfect for me) for $1595. G-H color, S1-S2 clarity. And those little buggers sparkled. I think we were there for a total of 15 minutes, maybe less. Todd escorted us to the back with the registers (which was weird, I admit, but we did get to see the jewelers working back there - cool). Put it this way: Shane Co is to any other jeweler as Nordstroms is to Walmart. You walk into Shane Co and they individually help you out. If you're the type of person who has their mind set on a specific diamond, they help you out. The sales people there try to adjust their sales tactic to what they think fits your personality. Brain helped us out spectacularly. We wanted to really know about what we were buying, so he sat us down and brought us diamond after diamond until we realized exactly what we were looking for and what we were willing to pay more (or less) for. He stayed after with us for about an hour and half after the store had closed. The Shane Co will make purchasing your engagement ring (or any other piece of jewelry) about the experience and the life long commitment they're making to you. If you go to a jeweler in the mall, as my fiance and I did, the first thing they tell you is you'll get this discount, buy our credit card and you'll get another discount and so on so forth. Shane Co doesn't have sales because their prices are never marked up...the only reason another store has sales is so that they can inflate their prices later. Furthermore, Shane Co really DOES have high quality diamonds. Their SI1 are another store's VS2. You may pay less for a huge diamond elsewhere, but is the quality as superb as Shane Co's? Also, the sales people are honest. Brian sat down and told us exactly what would be a waste of our money relative to what we were looking for in a diamond. Something that was personally important to me was that after going to all three Shane Companies in my area, not once did they tell me that I look too young to get married. I look a lot younger than I am, and at every other store I went into, the sales person remarked on how young I am to be getting married. They also made me feel pressured with the prices they had, while Shane Co aided us in putting a diamond on lay away with not extra cost if we decide that we don't want it. No restocking fees, and no transfer fees if we want them to bring in another diamond for us. I would recommend Shane Co to anyone who wants the perfect diamond relative to their needs, and also to someone who is looking into making the purchase of an engagement ring an experience, one that is honored for a lifetime. read more

My husband bought me a new wedding ring and bands for Christmas, I decided that even though they were pretty they were not my style and we went in and exchanged with no problem. After about 45 days I decided I still didn't love the ring. I went back in to the store and was helped by Sarah. She spent two hours with me helping me decide which stone shape I liked the best and which bands were really what I loved. I ended up getting the most beautiful princess cut halo ring with split diamond bands. I'm so in love with this ring and know I will love it forever! Being a discerning shopper, I wanted to get the whole package. I wanted a beautiful ring for my girlfriend (soon to be fiancee) at a reasonable price and I wanted service and warranty to go with it. I've read some of the other negative reviews on yelp going on about diamond quality and being treated poorly for coming in with sweats etc. Here was my experience. I shopped at the Walnut Creek store. I had done some online research on diamonds before hand and compared them to other online companies. I found their prices to be comparable. I also went into Macy's (and I think highly of Macy's in general) due to an advertisement for a $1000 ring that looked great in the picture. But when I got there it wasn't a solid diamond, but a bunch of small diamonds mashed together. At that point I said, forget it. I'm going to Shane Co. A friend of mine had purchased his wife's ring at Shane Co. and was very happy with it. I had gone in months earlier to buy a promise ring. It wasn't a huge purchase and the sales clerk who helped me was Diane Cach. She was very helpful and courteous. I received a thank you card in the mail a couple of weeks later. Diane and I talked on the phone and I told her what I was looking for and my price range. She selected three diamonds among the parameters I had given her and took 30 minutes to go through each one examining the four Cs. I was impressed and satisfied with the service. Macy's and the online jewelers didn't bother to do that. And as far as busyness goes, I waited longer at Macy's for a clerk than at Shane Co. (We need to remember that sales people are just that... people. They have off days too.) Given that Christmas time is very busy, Diane was responsive when I needed her to do anything for me. I have an EGL certificate to go with my diamond and I'm happy with it. At the end of the day, I had a budget and a ring in mind that was going to make my fiancee very happy. I walked in with a very good idea of what I was looking for and Shane Co. gave me the run around, the 2 salespeople were rude, and they didn't even bring me what I requested to look at I bought an ideal cut 0.72 carat AGS0 stone elsewhere and at a price Shane Co. wouldn't touch, even if they were willing to call it in on memo. I was shown craptastic IGI and EGL certed stones (which are widely known to be overgraded, most of which Shane Co. "re-grades" in house with their GIA trained appraisers. Why even carry EGL and IGI in the first place? They tend to be inferior, plain and simple, and EGL and IGI exists to drive profit for resellers like Shane Co (you buy a diamond you think is an H VS2 and it's actually a J I1) - yes, this happens. When a salesperson tries to convince me that Sarin reports, ASET images, Ideal/Brilliacescope images aren't necessary, that is a massive red flag. These are important aspects to give one an idea of the light performance of a stone, and most importantly, that you are getting what you're paying for. Angles and quality of cut make a stone - color and clarity (which people focus way, way too much attention to) should be secondary factors. Multiple times, they used the line "your eyes are the best judge." You know what a good starting point is, however? Numbers. Not hawking inferior lab graded stones. Acknowledging that in general, princess cuts with depths less than 75% will perform superiorly to those that don't, that tables shouldn't be greater than depths, that AGS is the only lab to certify cut quality in a princess cut. That AGS000 cut princesses will, much more often, be superior to anything but GIA Excellent cuts, and even then, there is more work to be put in on GIA certed princesses to find the true beauties.But, no, Shane Co. wanted none of that conversion. And why do you think that is? None of their diamonds would meet an AGS 1A or 1B rating on a David Atlas chart and if they did, they would be prohibitively expensive. I would run, not walk, from this store who does not want to engage in a truthful conversation regarding the quality of their stones and work with a trusted Pricescope vendor who sells stones of superior cuts - Brian Gavin, Whiteflash, GoodoldGold, etc, all of whom are highly vetted and sell much higher quality diamonds than this store. You CAN find a great truly ideal cut stone (by definition, only AGS cuts ideal princess cut, nobody else in the world does, though there are plenty of GIA Excellent cuts that will look just as good if you or a broker has time to sift through the certs) and you won't find them here. Even Costco is better than this place - you are guaranteed H VS2 Very Good cut in a GIA certed diamond at a competitive price and with lifetime returns. Oh, and if you think their covering your stone from loss is a perk, it's not. Your insurance will cover that. read more

This is in addition to what I wrote two days ago. I went back to Shane Co because Christian had ordered another ring that I saw online so I can see it in person. Now, keep in mind that I JUST brought my yellow sapphire ring home the other day - and then saw this other one online and was curious... Granted, I didn't get the one he brought in and decided to keep the one I had originally chosen, Christian still took the time to educate me on EVERY aspect there was to bringing my beautiful yellow sapphire to me. He explained about how they mine it, to showing me its raw rock form, to how the cutters decide on where to cut to minimize impurities to cutting to show the best color. He also explained how there are procedures out there that are unsafe for the stone while trying to enhance its color, and which ones were unsafe. He told me about saturation, light dispersion, how the cuts were done, how they are able to spot fake sapphires... HOOOO BOY! He told me about so many things, it was almost information overload, but in a good way! It was so interesting that I really didn't want to leave but i was taking up so much of his time. He didnt seem to mind though, he wanted me to make sure that I was educated on what my stone had gone through, making it even MORE special. This guy is absolutely amazing. Through it all, you can feel his excitement while teaching me these things. His smile was huge, his eyes shone bright. This guy really loves his job. And he was sincere. This wasn't a fake thing. I had already bought the ring. But it was really fun to learn all of this stuff and it wasn't like a "OkayyouhaveyourringBYE" type of things. This guy is true. And you dont' find too many people like this. His heart is in it. Tom Shane, if you are reading this, Christian deserves to be a manager of his own store.
