Came here to upgrade my engagement ring and to also have it cleaned. First of all, parking is not the best. I came on a Sunday afternoon so it's definitely busy. Shane Co is located next to the Office Max and Good will store and they all share the same parking lot. The lot is small but there is additional parking across the street. The additional parking lot is quite small too. We get there and had to wait about 10 minutes before a sales rep can assist. There is a waiting area with a coffee machine/snacks. This was a busy Sunday so our representative was helping us plus another couple. It's not her fault that she was assigned to two couples, but it did make me feel not as valued as a customer. In the end, the other couple didn't even purchase anything. Literally she went back and forth between us and just brought us different diamonds to view. Came back and asked if we liked it or not. I ended up upgrading my diamond stone but I really wished I went to the Shane Co in San Mateo instead. It was an exhausting experience since we were there for 1.5 hours. My engagement ring and wedding band was originally purchased in San Mateo and our experience was way different and much better there. Our representative gave us her full attention and even showed us the flaws in the diamond with her eye loupe magnifier. She was very thorough and patient with us when we had questions. She was such a sweetheart and gave us a discount because the rings and diamond were priced cheaper online. I didn't even know that was possible. PRO TIP: if the item is cheaper online, don't be afraid to ask the representative! They will price match that. The in-store price tag is always higher. I had to ask the Walnut Creek sales rep to price match the online price (which was 1k cheaper!) and she initially told me they don't do that. But I insisted so she went to the back room and came out a few minutes later saying that she was able to discount it for me. In the end, I do love my new diamond ring! It was ready for pick up in less than a week. For future cleanings/upgrades, I would make the extra drive to San Mateo. Overall 3.5 stars for the Shane Co. in Walnut Creek. read more

A year later and not much has changed. It seems like customer service is only important when you're looking to purchase. Other than that the cleaning/inspection service gets more and more mediocre. After reviewing recent low ratings it looks like I'm not the only one that's experienced it. I remember when getting my jewelry cleaned was exciting but now it's becoming pointless. Over 20 years of doing business at this location my wife and I have gotten 2 wedding rings, bought diamonds and had a custom set made for my wife and just recently bought a replacement box chain necklace for my wife's diamond journey Leo Necklace and it was like talking to a two year old that didn't want to help us and could hardly pay attention to customer needs. Oh and by the way necklace lasted less then 6 months broke and my wife luckily noticed and found the diamond charm on the carpet. Our last experience was a very difficult experience to review because it was somewhere between a 2-3 stars. First of all, back in 2015 we bought wedding bands and it was a very pleasant experience. We had one sales person focused on us. Got to see all the bands and bought the ones we liked the most. 5/5 This time it was more complicated because we were going in for a cleaning and potentially upgrading/new engagement ring for my wife. Thinking it would be a nice birthday present. The experience this time if described in a few words would be: busy, long, tiring, upselling, ignorant and awkward. Busy: The store was very busy full of couples. You had to squeeze between folks to even get a glimpse of the rings. Long, tiring: We were there for two hours. Our sales rep had to bounce between us and another couple, and that's probably why it took twice as long. Upselling: We hadn't decided our budget when we first came in so when asked the first time, we said we didn't have a budget in mind. After talking with my wife we set a budget and conveyed it clearly. It started great, our rep helped us find a band we loved, but issues came when choosing the stone. He kept choosing diamonds 30-40% over our budget and kept mentioning that we could pay for it with a plan. After a couple rounds of this, he finally showed us the first stone in our budget that looked good. Ignorant and awkward: We don't have much experience shopping for diamonds and was really looking forward on learning from the people here. Unfortunately our rep seem more eager to sell us the ones he wanted than trying to find the ones we would like. His descriptions when bringing out new ones was something like, "oh this one is nice" or "oh this one is great." While the couples around us talked about clarity, color and were offered loupes to examine closer. I had to ask for a loupe and for more explanation about clarity and color which he seem to do begrudgingly. And lo and behold the very first diamond he showed us had a black spot (carbon flaw) in the center of the diamond (which is the worst place) which was clearly visible without magnification. When I pointed it out, the response I received was "oh you're funny!" I ended up learning more from google while waiting... Eventually our rep finally showed us a diamond we liked... Unfortunately after all that we didn't end up purchasing because a misunderstanding on our part about how the upgrading works. If we had more time we might have found something to add on but they were closing soon and it was getting late so we decided to call it quits. The positive: our rep did help us find a ring and diamond we were happy with. And at least we got our rings clean, yay? The negative: pretty much everything else. The process was very frustrating. Added a star for the other rep that offered us water when he saw us standing around waiting half the time. read more

I've been to this location many times since its where we purchased our wedding rings. our experience here has always been great but today was a bit strange. as soon as I walked in I noticed all the associates were busy with a customer, but in the middle of the sales floor was a woman, who I assume is the manager. she was just standing there menacingly, looking toward the direction of a sales associate, almost as if she was trying to intimidate her. She gave off bad vibes the entire time I was there. she walked around and looked angry while micromanaging the staff, but didn't help any of the customers that were waiting for an associate. My husband bought my wedding ring at this location. A few years later he bought me diamond earrings. Then a few years after that we upgraded my band. All of the experiences were good. So I went in today to buy another band to put my life gem diamond (lab created diamond made from my husband's ashes). My husband of 42 years died in March. They refused to mount the diamond in a ring. Associate claimed the jeweler was worried if anything happened to the stone they would feel horrible. Diamonds are the hardest rock. The stone would not be damaged. What is the real reason. I don't know. I left in tears and sobbed in the car for 25 minutes. I will go to a local jeweler who will be more sensitive. There was a little bit of a gap between the diamond and standard-made halo setting, so they rectified it by ordering a custom halo setting specifically for my diamond, and mounting the diamond a tiny bit lower. I do not review but this experience was so beyond disappointing. First time ever looking at engagement rings with my boyfriend. Was hoping to really get a good start and base of ideas to give him with a pretty loose budget. We started looking at bands for less than 5 minutes, then we were forgotten. Our sale girl said she was going to see if she could find what we were looking for, disappeared for about 10 minutes. Then popped up next to us assisting another couple. No big deal just figured they were quick and needed help. Keep in mind there are wedding bands left right in front of us. Then she goes to another couple across the room. We had made eye contact multiple times so it wasn't like we were unseen. We had to have been standing there confused for over 15 minutes with no assistance. Just disrespectful and ruined what should've been a good moment and a future transaction. We were completely left alone; we hadn't even begun the conversations of rings. Did not get to see different styles of bands, types of diamonds, pricing, nothing. super disappointing. We left and had to tell a random employee behind us there was a band left on the counter. Now this girl was not rude when we were interacting in the slightest but just horrible system to never return and be assisting people not even 2 feet away. To try and get a resolution for my problems and was told by one manager that I could just exchange my setting out regardless of the policy's and the person they made me work with told me no I have to buy it and I have to upgrade my setting like the regular store policy even tho the manager I spoke to told me different. She pushed for me to spend double what I originally spent on my setting and i expressed how I was told something else. I live out of state and got no resolution at all and m it diamond is still loose on the verge of falling out again for the 7th or 8th time now . Went in on my birthday with my two girls to get them their first pearl necklace strands. Was greeted as soon as we entered then asked what I was looking for then assured an advisor would be with us momentarily. I was in at 4, I was told it would take 5 more minutes for quality check. More than 30 minutes later, and no update so I left. The professionalism this company and its employees exude is top notch (I mainly visit the Walnut Creek location but have been to a Roseville and San Mateo -- all great). This go around, I was assisted by Dominique one day and the my second day (took me that long to make the decision) Allyson helped round out my final decision. Dominique was helping another customer when I came back in but checked in on me with Allyson to see how everything was going because she was genuinely interested in my overall decision. At the end of the first day, I was leaning toward one ring and later to select my center stone but by the second day I went another direction. The ZERO PRESSURE atmosphere played a huge role in me making the best decision for my wife and I (wife left decision up to me so she could be surprised). If I'd have been pressured to buy, I very likely would have gotten a different setting; I'd have been happy as would my wife, but what we got was now perfect. We bought my wedding ring set in 2007. It has been perfect! I was in town and decided to stop by and have my rings checked and cleaned. Shane Co was so pleasant! They took my rings and came back and advised one of my stones was loose. Since I live out of the area, for a very small fee, they agreed to ship my ring back to me after it was repaired. They called a couple of days later and advised they had found a hairline crack in another diamond and advised they would replace it but it would take a little longer because they needed to find a matching diamond. This place was amazing. I've only shopped at a few jewelers during my time, but this specific location blew me away on how great it was. We were helped by Alysson (I hope I spelled her name correctly). She was one of the most professional, helpful, and kind people I've ever met during customer service in retail. She genuinely was trying to make us happy regardless how many times we asked for changes or to try things. During our visit, she was very helpful and was not pushy at all. The minute I told her that I am not looking to buy anything now, but rather casually browsing she immediately said thats fine and set up my profile for later.
