I've made a reservation 2 weeks ago for 9 people to celebrate the Lunar New Year. We arrived and waited 5 minutes before they showed us our table. There were 3 servers working the dining area and the take outs. The place is small and super packed. No one came to our table not even to bring water and menus for 25 minutes. I grabbed the menus and our group waited for another 10 minutes. I told the head server that we will be leaving because no one came to take our drinks and food orders. It seemed they were super busy. She showed up to our table as we were leaving and told her so. She said ok and didn't care including the other two servers. This is the first time that we received horrible service. The owner and manager should know that it will be busy on Lunar New Year so they should have more people working where one taking care of the take outs and the payments while leaving the other servers to take care of the dining area. I wanted to try this place because of their reviews but I won't ever after tonight. I have better service at Super Star, Hong Kong Cafe and Star Kitchen even when they are super busy. I loved this place!! The food was so delicious that made my mouth water when every dish was brought to my table. The service was really nice, they were great and loved their smiles. The ambiance was really great too, it felt more like a chinese resturant than any other places that I have been to. I really recommend the fish in giner wine sauce, Shanghai duck in brown sauce, Rice cake with swimming crab, Shanghai Braised Pork belly, and crab meat tofu!! We went here after their remodeling days. They provide a Private Room if you are bringing along your guests for a BIG PARTY. Hubs and I went here for an EARLY Friday Evening Dinner at about 17:10hrs ish. By the time its almost 18:00hrs, this establishment is indeed packed with other patrons alike. We opt to order from the "CHINESE MENU". Hubs opt to have 2 Main Entrees of the Salt and Pepper Chicken ($12.95) and Cannon Beef ($13.95). I opt to have the Spicy Squid Sautee ($10.95) and the Fried Rice ONLY with Shrimp. All in all the food comes out fast. Both the Cannon Beef and Squid dish DID tasted similar. The only difference was in the Canon Beef dish contains Carrots, while the Squid dish Does NOT. Both dishes contains Bell Peppers, Lotus Roots, Bamboo Shoots etc. Both dish its MORE Greasy than I am used to. The saving grace for my overall dining experience is the Fried Rice, that I ask ONLY to have Shrimp. Its the WHITE kind of Fried Rice, that I prefer. For this alone, this establishment received 3 stars in my books. Else, it would be lower than that. Solid family owned spot with lots of regulars. The menu is diverse although I don't understand how a restaurant can be good with so many items on the menu. We opted out for green tea duck, shrimp dumplings, Hong Kong noodles - food is good, not wow but just solidly good. It's a decent spot if you want to stay local. Came to Denver with friends as tourists and glad we found this amazing Chinese restaurant with the most authentic Shanghai cuisine. Nothing we ordered has made us disappointed. In fact, I can't find anything to complain from the food. The fact that we finished all dishes (we ordered 7 dishes for just four of us) except just for one that we DONT really have any room for it, will explain everything! I am a longtime fan of Shanghai Kitchen! Years ago when our favorite spot closed we found this gem. Christmas dinner tonight was no different on the quality and care put into our dinner. The wait tonight was a bit overwhelming but all said it is a blip and not at all their normal service. On any other night when we call in an order it is fulfilled quickly. We had hot and sour soup that had just the right amount of kick and our favorite sesame beef (it's as close as we have found to our favorite Kung Pao Beef from Red Coral). The most disappointing experience ever first visiting Denver. We had high expectations as we have heard that there is great customer service in Denver. We were mistaken. We arrived and were not acknowledged at the beginning and had to basically seat ourselves. Now it was time to take the order. The girl was brand new and we felt bad because it felt as if she was just not trained by the manager and the owners. We had to call her out because she had forgotten about us to place the order. We placed the order and literally waited about 30 min until we had to call a manager over because it was just taking too long and there were probably only 5 tables in total at that time. The manager was extremely rude and she said she "does not know how the dishes look like or how they are made" I mean cmon you are the manager right? Now it was time for the "food" We had ordered 4 soup bowls in total. The manager came out with 3 soup bowls and one incorrect order. Keep in mind we have been here for about an hour now. We told her we have waited about an hour now and have just gotten our soups which is wrong. She was extremely rude again and started to say we should have known what we were ordering. We were like what??? You guys are the ones who took the order wrong and now you're blaming the customers. At this point we were fed up and we just wanted to leave. When we were leaving the manager went to her friends and started saying things in her language and all of their staff was just looking at us. Horrible customer service for a restaurant that says they have the "best Chinese food in Denver" Managers please learn customer service and train your waiters and be respectful to them. Worst Chinese food I have ever had. Pic 1 is what 40 dollar fish look like. There's no utensils in the bag and only two bowl of rice for five dishes. I called and they told me that the sauce was missing and told me that they could deliver. To make their trip worth it, I have ordered another dish but it took nearly an hour for them to deliver to 3.9 mil distance. Once the food was delivered, the driver kept asking for tips and told me that he doesn't have a pen so that he wanted to sign instead of me. I was trying to keep my dogs inside so I asked him to give me the receipt so I can sign with my pen. He wouldn't even give me the food without promising to give him a tip. I have never met such an unethical and unprofessional driver before. His action resulted in my dog escaping the room. read more

So glad I found this restaurant. Order of the Chinese menu and you won't be disappointed! I lived in China for a long while so I like my authentic Chinese food (not sweet and sour chicken sort of americanized chinese). This place had the best Dan Dan Noodles and Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings. SOOOO good. The real star is the Beef in Hot Chili Oil (you can also get fish if you want). This dish reminded me so much of the dishes I would have in Beijing. The spice was just right with some of that numbing pepper...mmm! Perfect dish. It is a bit pricey (perhaps not by american standards, but it just feels wrong to pay $12.95 and up for some of these dishes that would be probably $3-4 in Beijing). This place has yet to disappoint! Every time I have eaten here, I have tried something different and it's always delicious and fresh. They have two menus, one more authentic food and one traditional food. I've had the chicken lo mein, sesame chicken, orange chicken, pad Thai, fried rice, wanton and egg drop soup, fried wantons, egg rolls, and a combination plate. You can also turn any entree into a meal and get soup, 2 wantons, and an egg roll. I've also used postmates to deliver me food from here and I have no complaints! Worth the drive to check this place out. They have two menus, I assume one more traditional and the other authentic. We sat in a really nice private room in the back. All of the tables have "lazy Susan's" for sharing. The food itself was all pretty tasty. Within our group we tried at least 3 soups and 7 entrees, all family style. I've been eating at this restaurant since it was in a different location (same center) with the old name Jimmy The Chef. This is great American style Chinese. There is a wide range of options typical to Chinese restaurants. I'm a big fan of the mu shu veggies myself. Came for Pad Thai, but when I asked about that vs General Tso's chicken, the General chicken was recommended. Nice atmosphere. They had a lunch special that had soup, egg roll, and appetizer. Wonton soup was good - had some strong onion slices in it, but some iceberg lettuce shreds (?). It was a small cup but filled with stuff, including 3 wontons. Wontons were thin and long though - a little hard to eat with the soup spoon / dipper. Crab Rangoons were good, served with good hot mustard and sweet sauce. Ordered for lunch delivery in the DTC. Portions were big, and arrived fresh and hot, and the delivery guy was very friendly. The garlic shrimp was packed with vegetables and was the standout. The General Tso chicken was heavily breaded and the sauce tasted so strongly of peanut oil that it was unpleasant - we didn't end up eating much of it. Fried rice was standard and good, egg rolls tasted like they had been frozen - the insides weren't packed with fresh cabbage but with an almost indistinguishable mush. I don't know why recent reviews want to hand out lower ratings. Maybe people don't understand how it is to try to run a business under these COVID restrictions. I have been a frequent customer for 10 years here. Sometimes they have to train new staff as it is hard to find people to work anymore. I have always been happy as a clam with the food. But I would tell you to order off the Chinese menu not the regular menu if you are picky about authentic. I have my favorites and they change things up for me as I have food allergies. I just tell them what I am allergic to and the chef goes after it. Favorites: Yong Chow Fried rice without pork sausage gluten free. Cumin Beef, Basil eggplant, Vietnamese spring rolls with chicken not shrimp or tofu. They are really very good. I love this place actually. read more

I would rate the food about 3 stars, but their service definitely bumps it up to 4. We came here on a week day dinner.. it wasn't busy at all so there was no wait time.. The 4 of us each had an order of soup dumplings.. these take a while to cook, so if you know you want soup dumplings, let the server know as soon as possible hehe. We also ordered 2 meet dishes.. I think one was honey chicken and the other was kung pao shrimp.. both were pretty good.. but nothing out of the ordinary. The soup dumplings were also really good but half of them were already ruptured, so the juicy didn't burst in your mouth :( that's the whole point of it!!!!! so that was disappointing.. Even after we finished eating, we stayed for a bit chit chatting.. and the the staff didn't mind.. they kept refilling our waters and allowed us to take our time. That was really sweet of them.. most restaurants give you looks if you stay too long.. but the staff at Shanghai Kitchen was so kind and friendly throughout the whole time. This place is the best Chinese food in Denver. When my fiancé and I first moved to Denver, we stumbled upon this restaurant looking for an easy dinner after work. Strange little place. I was visiting in this area and we selected this place to try for a weekday lunch. My first impression is that they tried to get every large restaurant detail crammed into a space the size of a medium bedroom (bar, tables, booths, fish tank, waiting area, television, plants, oriental screens, decorations, etc) yet it somehow did not seem crowded. How did they do that? The food was good, not spectacular, but good. My brown rice was a little dry and the chicken in my dish was a little tough. The key here is "a little." Both could be fixed with a little more care. The food came quickly, which was a plus in this busy tech center & large high school area. We arrived a few minutes before noon, so we did not have to wait; but those that arrived just a few minutes after us, did. Service was cordial; although, without any friendly smiles. I like to get the feeling that the staff is happy to see their customers. Would I go back? Perhaps, after I have tried the other options in the area. What can they do to make me want to come back?
