This place is the best Chinese food in Denver. When my fiancé and I first moved to Denver, we stumbled upon this restaurant looking for an easy dinner after work. It was so good I continued to drive from down town denver (in rush hour traffic) to meet my fiancé here for dinner. We definitely became regulars, and everything we tried is amazing. The orange chicken is our favorite, which is basic but they make it extra special! So I am not Chinese... but I have been to China many many times for work, so I hope I can be counted as semi legit for knowledge! :) I do consider Shanghai Kitchen to be authentic. I took my Chinese factory manager Alice and Chinese born driver to this restaurant a few days ago and both really felt the food was authentic. We got a smattering of literally everything. I really enjoyed the wood ear mushroom cold salad. Yum! We had tons of options for me (vegetarian) and the other two carnivores. And it was a treat for me to talk with the waitress in English about the Chinese menu. I am not at all proficient in Chinese, but hope to be at some point. The food is served Family Style like traditional Chinese restaurants. I assume you can just get an entree like normal, but we got a huge amount of food and ate family style. The staff was super nice too! The food was yummy. I would recommend it for a more authentic Chinese food experience than the orange chicken you get at express Chinese restaurants.That is NOT Chinese food! This restaurant does not deserve the fame as one of "The Best Chinese Restaurants in Denver". The taste of the dishes was not bad, but could be better. For example, the soup, Yan Du Xian (腌笃鲜) was full of (salted) belly pork and soup but lack of spareribs and bamboo (which was different from what was described on the menu). The dim sum, Shanghai Mini Dumplings wasn't like handmade or that unique, but was more like a frozen product that you can buy from the Asian grocery store (so the price isn't worthy). Honestly, I felt really disappointed as a Shanghainese, because I think this is not authentic enough. What's worse was the service. The owner and the waitresses were fine. They cared about the guests. For example, the waitress frequently checked in if we needed anything, and the owner checked in when we found the rice was raw-taste and maybe not cooked enough. It was the front desk manager (she) who can ruin every decent aspect of this restaurant. She neither prepared ahead of time to welcome guests by providing a right version of menu, nor explained clearly and reasonably about a price difference (increase) before, during and after our meal, which led to an unnecessary arguing. She tended to demonstrate an undefeated image, meaning if anything's not correct, it is YOU, the guest's fault. Even if you have been there, in-person, with the printed menu that she provided, it is your fault that you don't know to check the price online, or ask for a holiday menu (which she doesn't provide with you because she assumes you won't like to eat). She didn't listen to you or care about you at all, but just dumped out all her bullshit words. It is very ridiculous to see her poor reasoning skills. When you ask about A, she talks about B, and then you follow her and talk about B then she moves on C. With her, you will never reach an agreement because you are never on the same page!!!! Anyway, this manager (too greedy and lack integrity) has successfully turned my "joy" visit to a regretful visit and ruined my holiday trip to Denver. Will never come back!! read more

Came in to try a new Chinese place. Started with an OK hot and sour soup which is the only reason this place even gets a star. Everything after that was poorly made. Got the coconut shrimp- half were burnt. The egg roll was disgusting and mostly oil. My fiancé and I split the Mongolian pork entree and it was 80% onion with small scraps of meat you had to go digging to find. The waitress lost our ticket so it took forever to get our food at all. My sister and I both brought our families on a Saturday afternoon. It was dead. The service here is pretty awesome. We ordered a ton of food; fish and beef in hot oil, Dan dan mein, tea smoked duck, crystal shrimp, scallion pancakes, soup dumplings, and other dishes. While the food was good, I prefer my Sichuan dishes to be extremely spicy in hot chili oil. The dishes were not really spicy. My sister and I shared the fish and beef in chili because she wanted beef and I wanted fish. I'm not a fan of beef in this dish so I was disappointed when it contained only a few pieces of fish and a lot of beef. Our total, with taxes and tip, came out to $225.00. It was a good place to try out multiple Sichuan dishes but I will go back to my usual spot in Aurora next time since I prefer super spicy. read more

My GF and I live in DTC and had the worst experience with this restaurant. First we order delivery from their own website and after an hour of waiting they call us to see why we did not pick up our order. We had to tell them we marked it as a delivery and paid a tip and everything (It is even printed on the receipt). So we got our food and it is cold of course since they should've delivered it 30 minutes ago. . . We decide to just eat some of it and it tasted horrible, food was dry and over cooked. the Crab Cheese Wontons smell like they were bad. we also ordered Sesame Chicken and Kung Pow Shrimp and you can BY FAR get better food from Panda Express... Save your money! Lastly we called back to explain everything after finally agreeing to a full refund the restaurant demanded they come take their food back we packed it all up for them and it has now been sitting outside our front door for 2 going on 3 hours. . . I recently moved to this part of town and have been looking for my local Chinese​ delivery and takeout favorites. We ordered Crab Cheese Wontons, Sesame Chicken, and Combination Fried Rice. The wontons were some of the best I have ever had and the fried rice had great flavor and lots of meat. The sesame​ chicken, while good, was not my favorite. All white meat chicken, dry, and tasted like it came out of a freezer and fried. The flavor was ok but also very sweet and not much heat. Great seasoned duck with strong taste. The bamboo soup also had very authetic Shanghai flavor. However, the steamed dumplings were not recommanded. The skin of most of them were broken, so there was no soup remained in the dumplings, which was one of the most important component of a good steamed dumpling. Last Wednesday Colorado had a nasty bomb cyclone. All of the DTC restaurants were closed. Pizza, other Chinese, etc etc. Although it took a while to arrive it's understandable since the weather conditions were so bad that you couldn't even tell if the traffic light was go, slow down, or stop. And the service is so bad, the waitress did not provide us any water until we asked, honestly there is no service at all. 9/13/2019 for the first time I entered this Restaurant. I looked over the extensive menu and was very please with what I saw. I ordered the Wonton Soup and the Beef Lo Mein. The stock of the Soup was very deep and so delicious, very flavorful! The Lo Mein was very hearty as well. The Beef was cooked to perfection, not dry or stringy. It was moist and the noodles were very delectable! I found a place to go for sure. I am going to try the Mu Shu next and Peking Duck very soon! Without any apology, she even asked if we had another card to pay the bill. No one from the restaurant provided any solid solution. This is my favorite Chinese food in our area. Excellent service, atmosphere, and food. They've updated the restaurant A LOT since we first started eating here. You could comfortably eat here dressed up and for an occasion, but you will definitely see shorts and t-shirts. At the recommendation of a friend I ordered from the Chinese menu. Delicious. Muong bean noodle dish with black sesame seeds and sauce which is absorbed nicely by the noodles. Yum! If you're looking for a review from someone who really knows the place, read on. I can't believe I haven't written one before. The executive overview: Order from the 'Chinese' menu. You must ask for it, and it isn't on their web site. Try the Five Spice Been Curd (has pork in it), any of the fish dishes (yes, fish at the strip mall Chinese place. It is great!), the Yang Chow fried rice, etc, etc, etc. The normal stuff (what you get everywhere else) isn't exceptional here. The full skinny: I went here a time or two and ordered the same old stuff you get at these places - Kung Pao or Hunan Chicken or the like. It was, to be blunt, mediocre. I walked in one day in a hurry, and ran into several friends (not to drop ethnicities, but they happen to be well-qualified) who had ordered too much food and asked me to join them. Serendipity now! The food from the Chinese menu is different, great, tasty, interesting and not what you get at the other Chinese places around. I am not an expert on Chinese, but the fried rice is more like what we got in China than anywhere else. I haven't worked through the entire menu, mostly because I keep getting things I love. Sichuan peppercorns, Chinese sausage, preserved vegetables, wine sauces, light breading, seaweed, and yes, fish at the strip mall. If these sound good, you're going to love this spot. They do have some gluten free options as well, but you have to ask. The Chicken and Vegetables in white sauce is very simple, very tasty, very fresh. When not too busy (my advice, not theirs) they also will try to make whatever you like so if you crave a particularly Chinese dish and can't find it, it's worth a shot. First of all, almost $60 for take out is kind of insane. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken. It was very dry, unevenly cooked and the sweet and sour sauce had a very off taste about it. We ordered hot and sour soup (though it was supposed to be included in my meal, but we were charged anyway) and after two bites I didn't even bother. The lo mein was also quite dry and the noodles were undercooked - it was basically bad spaghetti. I tried my friend's orange chicken, which she specifically ordered "not spicy". I know, very strong words, but it was simply crappy. The vegetables were soggy, the sauce was almost tasteless & close to the consistency of water. I've had poor oriental food before & this is the worst of it. So bad I threw the majority of it in the trash. I know places have off nights, but this went beyond that. It took over an hour to have our meal, and we never saw our appetizers. The food is average at best. We will never eat here again, which is too bad. The prices are very affordable and I would recommend to anyone who love Chinese food or trying to just even trying it! They are very reliable with delivery and the menu ranges from the expected (sesame chicken) to fascinating alternatives (green tea smoked duck). When you dine in the chef will sometimes offer off the menu specialties that taste divine. I vary in ordering something healthy like chicken and snow peas with brown rice, to chicken lo mein (a little greasy but still tasty) and I'm never disappointed. Everything tastes fresh and they even offer Thai options. The panang curry isn't to die for, but it will do in a pinch. Oh, and they have a variety of vegetarian options to boot! I have never been when the restaurant was busy. Last time I went, there were no other tables. The time before that, two other tables were seated. Regardless, the food is fantastic. I always get hot and sour soup to start out with, then it just depends on what my palette is feeling. I bet if they started serving dim sum on Saturdays and Sundays, traffic might increase. Had lunch here around 1pm. Restaurant and restroom was clean. There were 6 other tables in use. Service was friendly and quick. Ordered the lunch special Kung Pao Beef with Hot and Spicy soup. Soup had a really good flavor, wasn't very salty. Kung Pao Beef also have good flavor. I wanted it to have more heat, so I added chili sauce to it. It also came with an egg roll, not bad.
