Same name but clearly different bakeries. M U S T T R Y: Nothing really stood out. But for kids and photos...maybe the cookie monster cupcake? Otherwise check out the Bishop location. G R U B At first glance, it looks nice if you've never been to the bakery in Bishop. They have breads, coffees and desserts. They even have a sandwich area in the backroom...but the sandwich area was completely empty and closed when we visited. Very disappointing overall, yet we stood in line anyways. Not knowing what to get but wanted something. Unfortunately none of the treats seemed appetizing(they just looked overly sweet with tons of frosting). We ended up walking away with a basic coffee..just bc we needed to wake up from the long drive. S E R V I C E Only a few workers...thus a long line tends to build fast. At least this location is much neater and cleaner than the Bishop location, but that's not that important in the scheme of things. P O S S I B L E I M P R O V E M E N T S This place has alot of potential but lacks the products and offerings the Bishop location has. THE SKINNY: Great baked goods and candy, friendly staff, right on main drag, great sandwiches. THE FAT: Went in to try the sandwich counter. Went for the Albacore Tuna Salad on house baked ciabatta. Very hearty sandwich on house baked fresh bread. They topped with plenty of veggies. Absolutely delicious. A lot of locals chowing down with us. Sandos come with a cookie and pickle spear. All sandwiches were priced at $7.50 for a half, $10.50 for a full. THE TIP: Save room for the baked goods. They are outstanding. They also had the hot sauce behind the counter, got to have a little zip on a Tuna Sando. It may have belonged to the little ladies making the food ? But they were kind enough to share. read more

Be warned now, a single pain au chocolate is $7 and a single chocolate truffle is nearly $4. All of their beverages except plain coffee and orange juice were unavailable last time we went. On our way home from Mammoth, my friend asked if we could make a pit stop here since he loved their baked goods so much. This bakery also has a deli on the other side, which looked tempting after I saw my friends order some sandwiches. The only thing I bought was the chili cheese bread, which was huge and fresh! They kept bringing out a variety of different types of breads while I was standing in line. I really wanted to get some of their desserts, but didn't think it would last in the car ride home. The bread was not as spicy or tasty as I was expecting, so I'm glad I didn't buy any of the other flavors. I think I'll try food from the deli side next time though. I'm not sure if they have any relation to the famed Eric Schat's bakery in Bishop, but I came in here thinking it was the same and later noticed that our purchases said Shea Schat's. They have pastry cases and fresh baked bread when you first enter, and a restaurant just past that. This review is for the bakery only. Make the trip worth your while and grab a few loaves of bread to take home. Keep in mind that it's fresh bread, so it won't keep as long as bread that you buy at the grocery store. We went with our staples of Rye, Sourdough, and the always delicious Cheese Bread. I also spotted a bag with a few cheese and a few chocolate bread twists, so I grabbed that as well only to find out once we reached the counter that they were day-old. They were a bit stale but heavily discounted, so it was worth it. The bread is always delicious and you can taste the quality. They offer a myriad of pastries that were so hard to resist, and I like that at the counter they have some samples out. Even if this isn't the same as the location in Bishop, I thought the bread was just as good. And perhaps it is the same, but the one in Bishop definitely has a larger selection. read more

If there's a bakery in town, you'll definitely find me there. Picked up goodies here twice in a weekend... and still stopped by the main location in Bishop on the way home. Woops. This location is smaller than the Bishop. Their product is slightly different, not as much variety... they have more donuts and pastries, cupcakes, cakes than bread. For a quick filler before the drive to June and Mono Lake, we got their raspberry bear claw (good!), the apple fritter (a little too greasy for my liking), and a ham and cheese croissant (okay). The next morning we stopped by to pick up some quick treats before heading to the slopes to ski. At 8AM, the line was surprisingly long, but it went quick. This time, we got their hot croissants (I didn't know they offered that until the lady gave me the option - this was way better!). The hot ham and cheese croissant and the breakfast croissant (bacon, eggs, cheese overload - they don't skimp out on filling the croissant) were so good. So delicious and perfectly filling. They also sell freshly squeezed orange juice here. Service was good. I wish I had 5 stomachs to try everything at this bakery. read more

I like this bakery. Its fresh and tasty. Tried the ham and cheese roll, with and without peppers. And the donuts are good (even though I'm not a donut person). Look for the day old rack in the back too. Got a loaf of their rye. So good. Interesting place to browse and to pick up some snacks or a meal. read more

This bakery is legit. The food here is wholesome and made from scratch. The staff is incredibly nice and knowledgeable, I would also recommend any sandwich made in the in the deli. All of the bread is baked on-site, and they even make a fresh roasted Turkey daily. Don't miss this place if you visit Mammoth. read more

Yesss! I love this bakery. The moment you enter inside, you will smell the aroma of baked goods and be very confused looking at their huge selection of yummy delicious items. We got a latte (really creamy), a plain macaron (so good) and a black forest bomb (so chocolatey). We loved it so much that decided to visit this place again on our way back home from Mammoth Lakes. Got a roast beef sandwich on sheepherders (White) bread. The bread was great, tasted fresh. The roast beef (RB) wasn't so good. It appears they cook their RB there. But it was too tough. Plus I got a piece of gristle that was like jerky. They don't give you much RB on the sandwich either. By the time I got to the end there was no meat, I hate that! read more

I don't know why this bakery only has 3.5 stars! I am so glad we went. We stopped in for breakfast. Their coffee was great, their croissant breakfast sandwiches were so good-crispy flaky crunchy croissant with fluffy scrambled eggs, and the donuts were so pillowy soft. We grabbed a loaf of their bread to make sandwiches later at the lake. Of note-they serve freshly squeezed orange juice and make custom order sandwiches in the back. Okay , I've been coming here for sandwiches since a kid. I even worked there in highschool. Today was so dissapointing. 26$ for a full sandwich and half sandwich? So that's crazy. Second I tipped 5$ for the two ladies cause it's a difficult time. The total was 26$ and I gave her 30$, one 20$ and two $5 dollar bills. So she didn't give me change and I asked where it was? She said "I don't owe you any change" and I said yes I gave you 30$ and I know for a fact I did. She argued with me for a good minute. It was absolutely unprofessional and uncalled for. I love Schat's! Most people I know prefer the one in Bishop but I think this one is better and the line is always shorter. Today was my first time back in a while (haven't been since covid started) and it was just as good as I remember. I always get a turkey sandwich and their meats and bread are so fresh. You can also pick white or dark meat which is great. They also include a cookie from the bakery with your sandwich which is also delicious. This will always be one of my go-to spots in Mammoth! read more

This place is God awful. I came in 3 days ago. There was no one working. I waited 5 minutes and gave up. Cane in this early evening and said hello to the employee who ignored me. After maybe three minutes I asked if I could place an order. I then asked her what a few items were. She told me in a super exasperated way that she had no idea. So I bought the mystery chocolates. They were TERRIBLE. I ended up throwing away almost $20 worry of chocolates. I haven't been to Schat's in a year. Lady summer I was overcharged $40 for my order. The owner Erick F Schat emailed me back and told me he would refund me for the overcharging. Well he ghosted me, never refunded. If he had ever apologized or refunded me that amount I probably wouldn't have complained about these terrible candies today. read more

The very first thing that happened upon my son and I walking in the front door, and staring at the bounty of baked goods, was an older man who said "even breathing in here is dangerous, it's all wonderful"- the man DID not lie! Everything was wonderful- sourdough bread, strawberry cream cheese coffee cake (they literally had 8 flavors with every fruit you can think of- YUM), pull apart bread, lovely cookies, donuts, everything. I'm drooling just thinking about all the yummy things we had in the 2 days we were there. Also ended up getting a few sandwiches to take to go (pre-packed)- everything was delicious, fresh, and flavorful. Can't say enough good things about this place! read more

We stopped in looking for coffee (& missing the coffee house style cafe across the street). Of course it grab your attention by viewing all the eye popping treats. We ordered our coffees, hot chocolate & one desert. My oldest was still undecided & felt rushed. A group of individuals made their way towards us & I told the young man more than twice that I wanted to pay & evidently didn't hear me and kept rushing us out - to where he was rude to my daughter. A nice older woman was gracious & told her to take her time & that she'd help the other people in line, but it was too late my daughter was already miffed & just wanted to leave and never go back. I offered to take her to the one in Bishop which looks bigger and had a cute gift shop, but she wouldn't budge. The coffee & sample of pastries were delicious, but the service & rude comments from that one young man behind the counter is what ruined it and hence my low rating. When I come back out I'll have to visit Bishop bakery & give it a chance, one naive & unprofessional employee shouldn't ruin it all. read more

I absoultely love this place despite how packed it was! I've been coming here for years on the way to mammoth lakes like everyone else and after a few year's hiatus, their bread reminded me again why I loved this place. Mind you, I don't normally eat bread either. I had the cranberry chocolate chip bread. Husband ate one of the cheese breads in one day! He also had the ciabata and didn't go crazy for it as much. My dad loves french baguettes and he was over the moon. Came here on a Sunday at 1pm and I guess since it was also a holiday weekend I have never seen it so crowded before! Don't be deterred even if it looks packed like sardines though, make your way to the left for their bread. Surprisingly, the lines move pretty quickly and there is enough space to just go look through the bread aisles and grab what you need. They do run out of the favorites by afternoon. read more

Came here for my birthday in the morning for some fresh baked goods and was not disappointed. The croissants, chocolate and ham & cheese, were equally fresh and delicious.
