I was expecting something amazing being that this Bakery has the SCHAT name. However, I can't say that it was anything better than just mediocre. My kiddo had a ham and egg croissant for breakfast. She said that she really enjoyed that. My husband had an apple fritter. It had a very croissant like texture to it. It was light and flaky. It was also made up of several layers of buttery goodness. I had a pecan bun. I saw it and it looked more like a cinnamon roll, but it wasn't close to being that or anything like I expected. To be honest, I don't know what it is or why, but it felt tail. I didn't care for it all that much but I definitely made sure to finish it up because it cost so much. I don't usually pay so much for such a mediocre item. To be honest, if I had purchased the same item from another local bakery, and Ugale, one at that, I would've been terribly disappointed and probably would've requested a refund. Now that I've been here and have had the experience of some of their pastries, I am pretty sure of my decision in saying that I doubt I will be returning here.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful bakery, very busy and efficient, quick service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Reasonable pricing for elegant and beautiful creations. Cakes, pastries, cream puffs, cookies, various croissants, breads, rolls, donuts, coffee drinks. I purchased chocolate dipped butter cookies: OH MY GAWD, so good. I will probably visit this place again before I leave town.

Walked in en route to the Village in the morning and were in search of coffee and pastries. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I got sensory overload upon stepping foot inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a bakery section with all sorts of desserts and pastries in the front and seating area in the back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is also another deli section in the back where you can order soups and sandwiches. Everything looked so good! It took us forever to decide on our order. Decided on a chocolate eclair and coffee.

Moldy oranges being used for the fresh squeezed orange juice

This is some of the WORST service I have experienced anywhere in my entire life, rude, inefficient and incompetent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On top of that, the inside of this was place was disgusting, there was trash everywhere, including on the coffee bar, and there were boxes of moldy oranges which they were using to make orange juice out of![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was busy inside, but nothing too crazy for a popular bakery/cafe on a weekday morning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But the staff was behaving as though it was third first day ever inside a food establishment. They moved the line to the opposite side of the building twice for no reason causing chaos, and half the customers were receiving their coffee orders as they were ordering them, but the other half were told to wait and they would call them out. But that is not what was happening, they were quietly setting unmarked cups on the counter, and announcing what they were at the volume of a whisper, I kid you not. And again, there were a LOT of people waiting for drinks. But no one could figure out whose coffees were whose. It got so bad that I started yelling out orders I could hear because the "baristas" were just setting them down and whispering what they were and walking away. That was the only time during my visit things were kind of running efficiently, and it was because I was doing their job for them! They messed up one of my groups coffees, and instead of fixing their mistake, the extremely rude young woman behind the counter said "you didn't order it like that", until I pulled out a photo I had taken of our order screen before paying! Every customer in the building was upset and shaking their heads in disbelief, so I suppose the upside was it was a nice bonding experience between all of us bereft patrons, brought together by service that we all, as a collective, couldn't fathom how horrible it was. The pastries themselves were good and the coffee was decent, but not worth the 7 circles of hell it took to receive them. If you want OJ made from moldy oranges and the worst service of your life, go here. Otherwise, go literally anywhere else.

Oct 20, 2025. Tourist trap with insane tourist trap prices.

October 19, 2025 A tourist trap with tourist seriously inflated prices. It's popular only because it's been there a long time. That's all. You can get bakery items like this at your local Vons, Safeway etc... in the bakery section just like Schats for half the price. Just sayin.

This particular location is in Mammoth Lakes. I dropped by here twice but I wasn't able to get in the first time cuz I didn't know that they close at 6pm. So I went early on my next visit which was 3pm. To my surprise, they were already closing their doors and when I asked why, the lady wasn't able to give me a reason why. It seemed that they close the store when they feel like it. However, they let me in to grab one item quickly as promised. Because of this, I wasn't able to choose properly what I really wanted so I grabbed one item that's on top of the shelf. It wasn't something I really liked. I was glad though that I was able to snap a few pics.

Good bakery. Can get very crowded since it's a small shop. My wife loves the blueberry scones, but they rarely have them.

Great pastries! What a find, and in both Mammoth and Bishop. Buy two, you'll want one for later.

Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is readily available inside of the plaza as well. Lots of doggos visiting with their parents. First walking in it was very toasty lol but you adjust to it eventually. The line situation is a little interesting. When it's crowded, it wraps around and heads towards the back bar and bathroom. It's a bit difficult to navigate to the back of the line or bathroom if the seating is occupied - but manageable. Variety of pastries to choose from! I wish I snagged the coffee cake slice. Reminds me of the ones they'd serve in elementary school back at home (Los Angeles). Every pastry looked to be around $4-6. The staff were extremely friendly and positive. They made the drinks fairly quickly for having such a crowd in the morning. The breakfast burritos are pre-made and kept warm to serve in a display. :) great price point too. Bacon and soy chorizo are available for about $8-9. Mild and spicy salsa on the side. Items ordered: Bacon bfast burrito (4.5/5) - large portion! It was hefty. The spicy salsa was really nice and had a kick to it but didn't over power. The burrito is stuffed with potatoes, cheese, egg, bacon, and pico I think. Would def order again! I just wish there was a bit more bacon. Cortado (4.5/5) - pretty strong and the color was absolutely gorgeous. Not sure what blend they use but I wish there was a bit more flavor. Would def recommend and return! The customers seemed really happy.
