Come here. There is no reason not to. Seriously. Count in some old fashioned beers. None of that prissy crap. You owe it to yourself. Just do it.

    Having some fun here

Dot holds a bit of a nostalgic throwback to the diners of the 50's & 60's…read more With plenty of parking located behind the building arrived at about 10AM and place was buzzing. Thankfully, Mark was there and initially was told a 35 minute wait but seemed intent by quicker. Ambiance: 4/5 It was breakfast time so of course it was a busy time. For my visit, it was crowded but not to where you couldn't hear your table. Dress is casual, good for friends, solo, or pit stop. Service: 5/5 Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. Since it was our first visit there, she gave us some background that it was a Pappa's owned restaurant and food is made from scratch. Food: 3/5 They offer mimosas and I was tempted to order, but was driving and it was 9AM so forewent that option. There are food options for every tastebud. Mark ordered the fried cheese sticks, they were one of the items that I found worthwhile to return for. I opted for the Waffle feast. It included a waffle, that I added pecans on top to, two strips of bacon, eggs your way and hash browns. To say that I needed to add salt and pepper to the eggs and hash browns because they tasted bland and flavorless was unfortunate. It also was served at room temperature, because it was made from scratch, would think it be warmer to hot. The waffle was savory and had good mix and topped with the pecans made it even better. If you're on this side of town and want a change up from the "other breakfast diners" DOT would be where I stop. Fast, friendly service. Depending the food you get, it gets the job done for some sustenance to hold you over when you're not sure when your next meal is because you'll be in Galveston for 7 hours riding a float in the Mardi Gras parade.

There were 2 servers that were assisting with the table. Both very nice and got our orders correct. I had to split the bill in a weird way and they followed instructions well. The restaurant is always nice and clean including the restroom. The restaurant has a lunch option for 2 items for $25. What a steal! I got the wedge salad because I love the smothered blue cheese dressing. I got the mahi mahi tacos. Tacos were a good lighter choice. I didn't realize that it came with fries. All delicious options and so many options for even the pickiest eaters. Always a good choice for a nicer lunch.

**** Sheri and I…read morerecently dined at Jonathan's The Rub with friends, and while parts of the meal were enjoyable, the overall experience left us disappointed enough that we won't be returning. We both ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. Sheri's was good, but mine was tough and gristly. The gravy tasted fine, although there wasn't much of it on the plate to begin with. The Sweet Chili Shrimp appetizer was the highlight of the meal and easily the best thing we ordered. I also tried the Soup de Julio. The flavor was excellent, but the bowl was mostly rice with very little else in it. Our friends ordered a salad and a burger, and both seemed pleased with their meals. I do want to give credit where it's due. Our waitress, **Sheila**, was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout the meal. She was not responsible for what happened next. The total bill for our table was **over $200 including tip**. After spending that kind of money, we asked for a little extra gravy to take home with leftover chicken fried steak because the original serving was light. We weren't asking for a bowl--just a small ramekin. We were told there would be a **$2 charge plus tax**. That may not sound like much, but after spending more than $200, charging a customer extra for a tiny container of gravy felt incredibly petty. It's not the amount of money; it's the message it sends. Good restaurants build loyalty through hospitality, and this felt more like nickel-and-diming customers. The food ranged from average to good, Sheila's service was excellent, but the decision to charge for a small ramekin of gravy overshadowed the entire experience. Unfortunately, what should have been a pleasant meal ended on a sour note, and we won't be returning.

We ordered two different pastas to try and fritters to start. The vibes were IT for both a date night or to have a chill night with a big group. The staff is super friendly, and we were welcomed as we were (we had hoped to eat at a sister establishment but they sold out of what we wanted). Mimo's offers a great selection of Italian inspired apps, three well appointed pizzas, a few varied and surprising options for pasta dishes, and some mains. Items we tried: Pane - delicious Roasted Carrot Pizza - AMAZING, A little spicy, but definitely something we would order again. Pastas we ordered initially came out cold - our incredible waiter immediately corrected the issue. But from a flavor profile - Pansotti - sooooo delicious. You'd never guess that it was a vegetarian option - the mushrooms were so meaty. The delicate pouches with the spinach and ricotta were heavenly. Pappardelle - The lamb braised sauce had a depth of flavor that could rival any restaurant in Italy. My only tiny hope was that the pasta would have been served aldente, it was a little overcooked. But to each his own. Overall - really great. Would recommend. This would be great for a weeknight dinner or an off the beaten path date night.
