Thrilled to have finally found our new breakfast joint. My husband and I moved to the Angle Lake neighborhood about 2 1/2 years ago, and we have struggled to find a great breakfast spot. This morning we ventured the 10 minutes into Burien to try out Shelly's. At 9am on a Sunday the place was hoppin', but we were able to be seated immediately in the 21+ lounge area. The menu had lots of great vegetarian options for my husband, and as a devotee of a great eggs bene, I had lots of versions to choose from. My hubby opted for the Feisty Vegetarian Omelet, and I went with the classic eggs benedict. While we waited for our food we enjoyed very decent cups of coffee with frequent refills offered by the attentive young waitstaff. When the food arrived we were floored by the sheer amount of food on each of our plates. After the first bite, we knew we had chosen wisely. The breakfast potatoes were divine. My husband absolutely HATES dill, so we were a little nervous as the breakfast potatoes have fresh herbs, including dill, baked into their crispy little tater bodies. The dill brought a delicious and interesting flavor, but it was subtle enough that my husband didn't mind at all. The omelet was chock full of veggies, and the jalapenos were fresh and spicy. The ham on my eggs bene was delicious and seemed fresh carved versus the usual Canadian Bacon rounds served at many local places. The total bill for two coffees and two entrees was just shy of $35. After striking out at places like 13 Coins and Huckleberry Square, we are over-the-moon to have found our new spot. read more

No salt or pepper or garlic powder or onion powder or paprika. Nah, FLOUR. Like they expected my kid to have some bland ass taste buds? Fabulous local breakfast spot. Huge portions all freshly made and tasty. Not at all fancy, but good honest food(and staff). Unfortunately there was a very rude and abusive customer and I felt bad for the staff who had to deal with them. They remained very polite and courteous throughout. I've found it. THE PERFECT BISCUIT. I came to eat for the first time about 3 days ago, and here I am, back again for another delicious menu item that I didn't get to try last time. (I can see this becoming a very regular thing) I am always looking for a great breakfast spot, and I've definitely found it. Milkshakes and (FULL BAR) are also some very nice additions to the breakfast/brunch mix. My server today was Misty--she was on top of everything, kind, helpful, and happened to also make the best damn milkshake I have ever consumed. Great greasy spoon brunch spot. All about the jumble option (not a fan of omelets, so the option to have a scramble piled on top of some potatoes is a-ok with me)! Quick service, tasty food with always more than enough to take home as leftovers. The atmosphere is a little lacking (small and cramped, not a great vibe, per se) but the food and friendly service definitely make up for it. We prefer to sit in the bar section which has a nice, more laid back feel to the main restaurant. Definitely recommend Shelly's if you're a fan of the near by Countryside Cafe. Great breakfast, this restaurant is a little tucked away but a great find once you get there. We arrived mid-morning on a Saturday for breakfast and there was a 15-20min wait for a table. Staff were friendly and checked in with us regularly. The food was great, a Señor Dominguez pile for me, and a monte cristo sandwich for my wife which was piled high. Great tasting food, the biscuits and gravy here are heavenly! Good sized portions so come hungry and leave with a box! Highly recommend, we will be returning for lunch and even dinner at some point. read more

The interior has a very traditional/humble breakfast diner vibe. I got the Banana Foster French Toast and the sauce was very good. Personally I think the food was a bit too heavy/indulgent for my taste so I wouldn't come often, but if you're looking for a traditional American style breakfast with lots of options to choose from, this place is good. read more

lol, To be completely honest, I love this little dinner! It's my secret go to spot for breakfast, and usually only take special people here lol. I've had almost everything on their menu (yes that's how much I've gone there), and have never had anything bad. The service isn't always the best, I'll be honest. There's one waitress there that isn't the friendliest, and every time I go there I dread getting her lol. But the food is absolutely amazing and that's really the reason why I go there. Jam is amazing, who doesn't love seedless raspberry jam on their toast or biscuit?! Also you have to try their house potatoes (basically their version of country potatoes), but ask for it deep fried. Great little nook that serves breakfast all day and does it right. Lots of hot fresh coffee; service with a smile, and all the eggs Benedict / scattered / piled / smothered /gravy options you could want. I went corned beef hash with sausage gravy - don't judge, it was awesome. My servers were always on top of the water and coffee situation so I enjoyed reading the e-news and eating without having to beckon or call them. Highly recommend. So, I normally I'm a customer service guy. Today I felt bad for them, kinda. She told me 3 people called in sick and she called for help. Wow. Maybe she should have closed. After 45 minutes of waiting for food, I asked. It came out in another five minutes. Almost an hour in a booth with a 6 year old isn't easy, but it is what it is. The waffle was OK said the kids, my biscuits and gravy was same. It just wasn't that good, more like edible. Then the bill was 38 something. We normally eat out with 3 plates for 30-40 bucks. Today the kids split a plate. My biscuits and gravy, they split a waffle, two breakfast entrees. I had planned on a 50 percent tip to make up for their crap Christmas eve shift that had to suck for them - not when I got that bill, for that food (mediocre would be generous) combined with waiting an hour. I don't remember the name of it but I got 2 eggs, French toast and potatoes. If you had to choose between the hash browns and house potatoes, get the house potatoes and ask for it to be extra crispy. I was in town for business and stayed out by the airport. I generally prefer to eat at a "locals" place, and Shirley's fit the bill. They are about 3 miles away from the main airport hotel area on International, but are easy to get to via a few residential streets. We stopped in for breakfast and were promptly greeted, seated and had coffee in front of us in no time. The seating was a bit dated and eclectic in that it had a mishmash of booths and individual chairs all mish-mashed together. Their breakfast menu is extensive. I had some type of "Pacific Northwest" scramble that had smoked salmon. My counterpart had a traditional eggs/bacon/hashbrowns/toast meal. Both were served promptly and were piping hot. The meals were excellent, and the portions were large. The pricing was fair for the quality and quantity of our meals, but was higher than usual for what I would consider a local cafe/diner. What a nice mom and pop place. We found ourselves here due to a power outage and we are happy that we did. The place was packed when we got here and it is a very cozy place. It's an old little diner, which is part of the charm--- but such a huge selection! The food was also fantastic. There were five of us and we agreed that it's worth coming back to. I drag my coworkers out for lunch often. I also tend to drag them to new places when I'm aware of them to try them out. There were five of us here for lunch one sunny day. The service was quick and pleasant. The layout and decor of the place was fair. It didn't feel as crowded as it did the last time I was in the building when it was a different restaurant. This place is a diner! I love laid back american food at it best, and I found it. I had the Ambaum Gut Bomb, with French Toast. It was a good time. I ate a little too much, but the name should have given it away. The eggs were cooked properly to order. The French Toast was AMAZING. It wasn't overcooked like 98% of places make it. The breakfast meats and potatoes were tasty. It wasn't just my food, but everyone in attendance was very pleased with what they received. It all looked really tasty. I needed a quick bite to eat while waiting for some work to be done on my truck. Someone at the shop suggested Shelly's so I decided to head that way. Recognized it by the umbrellas on the sidewalk from the Yelp pics. Very nice menu and was pleased with my order, the service, the atmosphere. It was lunchtime so it was busy, but it didn't take long to find a table. Would definitely recommend and also eat there again when I'm in downtown Portland. read more

The food was decent. I went in and had their breakfast combo that came with one eggs Benedict and one biscuit with gravy. There was nothing inherently wrong with the dish it was just, okay. If I were to come back it would be for the service and for their milkshakes. They have at least a dozen different flavor options for milkshakes and you can mix them together. I got coffee with caramel and it was amazing! Had a strong coffee flavor with a hint of sweetness from the caramel. The staff was really friendly and helpful as well. We went on Memorial Day and this place had a line out the door. They have a separate lounge area if you are 21 and over. Very cute mom and pop kind of place. Also they are open 365 days a year!
