    California Club Sandwich
    Timmy S.

Located inside the Cerritos Sheraton Hotel, this small "restaurant" offers a small menu of pedestrian fare for lunch. I attempted to come here for dinner in the past only to find out they only serve a breakfast buffet and lunch. This is wise of them as there are a dozen chain restaurants nearby that serve better food than here at more reasonable prices. Just past the main entrance in the interior of the Sheraton you'll see a small "Grille 91" sign next to a small banquet room with minimal decor. I came for lunch and, as stated on a sign at the door, seated myself. My first choice for a table was covered in salt (both table and chair) so I chose another one. I quickly noticed my place setting only had a spoon. Looking at the other tables nearby I realized the settings on each table were bizarrely missing utensils - one had only a fork, another a knife and spoon and another had nothing at all. After ordering I grabbed a fork and knife from another table. I ordered a club sandwich and iced tea. The sandwich came out within 5 minutes and it was served on ordinary toasted bread cut into four sections. The deli turkey, bacon, tomato and lettuce - even the limited amount of avocado - were fresh. I was glad they were gentle with the mayo. The fruit provided as a side (mostly melon and pineapple) was also fresh. But this triple decker sandwich was stacked too high - I couldn't take a bite. I opened my mouth so wide I thought my jaw was going to pop. I tried squishing it down as much as I could. Impossible. So I had to deconstruct it in order to eat it. I prefer to just sit, eat and enjoy a sandwich rather than struggle with it and try to figure out how to eat it like some sort of puzzle. Having to take it apart made it messy and a genuine pain in the backside to eat. It was a decent sandwich but a bit bland and certainly nothing out of the ordinary...except for the price. You'd expect to pay more at a hotel restaurant and this was no exception. Club sandwich and iced tea with standard tip was over $20. Service was friendly and attentive. There was only one guy on staff but he adequately handled the four occupied tables with ease. I won't be coming back but if I were staying at the hotel I might try the breakfast buffet. Lunch and dinner would be better in all respects at any of the restaurants in the surrounding area.

    Chicken Nachos. BEST EVER!!!!

It's not ON the menu anymore, but the nachos are the friggin BOMB! LITERALLY the only reason I went here was for those. I ask for them even though they don't serve it anymore. Please bring back the nachos. They are the BEST.

We get to dine here because the hotel offered us breakfast coupon for being SPG gold member (also platinum member too). Otherwise the breakfast buffet would cost $17 per person plus tax which is pretty steep for traditional continental breakfast (scramble eggs, sausage, bacon, potato, french toasts were empty, lots of fruits, oatmeal. The waiter would come by and ask you for the drink (coffee, tea, OJ, etc).

    Yum!

Location. Location. Location. I keep coming back here because it a skip away from work and they make starbucks drinks. Granted there is an actual Starbucks but I would rather come here when it's across a small parking lot vs across the street. The worker there is friendly and for the most part they are pretty quick with service. They also sell food and pastries that are ok, nothing special.

If you read my original review, you know the service was terrible. This time, though, Jorge took great care of us. He checked on us often, made sure we had everything we needed, and was friendly from start to finish. That's the kind of service I was hoping for the first time around. The food was much better too, especially the fries! Y'all know they were trash in my first review. This time they were hot and crispy. I ordered the Fresno Fig Burger with fig marmalade, goat cheese, bacon, tomato, red onion, arugula, and spicy porter mustard. Whew... that burger was good! The combination of sweet and savory flavors just worked. My husband and I ended the meal by sharing the Bourbon Barrel Cake with candied pecans, bourbon caramel, and vanilla bean ice cream. Listen, don't leave without ordering it. It was absolutely delicious.

The evening started off strong, as we stopped by during Hoppy Hour (around 9ish). There wasn't a wait, and it wasn't too busy, so we were seated right away. The front staff was nice and polite. She gave us the option of either a tall round table or a shorter rectangular table. We of course, opted for the slightly shorter (height-wise) rectangular table. Once we were seated, we were given the menu, and the waitress told us that we would be right with us. She stopped by to ask about drinks, and we opted for water. She dropped off water and came back with perfect timing because by then we were ready to order. I also love the simplicity of the menu. There really aren't too many options where you feel overwhelmed, but there are still enough choices to pick from. Shout out to the pastrami quesadilla, I didn't realize it had been swapped for a new menu item until I asked about it this time around, but I'll be waiting for its comeback! We ordered a few items: the mac and cheese balls, the Wagyu bone marrow burger with truffle fries, and a double smash burger with ribbed finger potatoes. We had to get the mac and cheese balls since it was Hoppy Hour! I also didn't realize that on Wednesdays, the double smash burgers are half off. I'll definitely remember that for next time. After we ordered, the food came out quicker than I expected. It was a nice surprise. I think the first item came out about 10 minutes after our initial order. The mac and cheese balls came out hot, which was great. The breading made them super crispy and gave a nice crunch that balanced really well with the softer, chewier mac and cheese inside. I was glad the inside wasn't too runny since that would have made it like lava! I didn't see a cheese pull this time, but next time I'll try again to see if I can catch one. It was a great start to the meal. The burgers came out shortly after we finished the mac and cheese balls. I totally forgot that the truffle fries came with sauce. I should have asked for the sauce on the side, but it wasn't a problem that it was added on top of the fries. It just made them get soggy a bit faster, but that's no problem; it just means I've got to work faster! The burger was good and came out super juicy. I asked for it medium, and it looked about medium, so no complaints here! I never realized before, but the bread was so fluffy... it was a super pillowy bun with a nice bounce to it. It definitely helped balance out the meatiness of the patty. The hint of tomato gave it a nice, refreshing bite and really helped cut through the richness of the meat. The onions also added a nice sweetness to the burger, which was appreciated. I also snuck a bite of the ribbed potatoes, and they were good as well. They were a bit crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside, with just a touch of saltiness. I also stole a pickle from the double smash and realized I probably should have asked for pickles on my burger, but I'll remember that for my next visit!

We had a reservation for six and the hostess greeted us and sat us right away. Our server, Nate, was fantastic. He knew the menu and answered all of our questions. He even explained how some of the drinks were made. Later we found out he was actually one of the bartenders helping out as a server for the night. Which made sense considering how well he knew how the drinks were made. He was attentive and checked on us often to make sure everything was going well. One thing that made him stand out was, he actually conversed with us rather than just asking if we needed anything and then leaving. The Old Fashioned was one of the smoothest and best I've probably ever had. My nephew ordered the Ube Painkiller after Nate described how it was made. I had a sip, and the ube flavor really came through without overpowering the drink and it was perfectly matched with the dark rum, which Nate said came from the Caribbean. The Brussels sprouts had a nice mix of tender and crispy pieces that gave additional texture. The calamari was tender and the pesto style sauce paired real good with it. The Thai curry sea bass was flavorful, flaky, and had the right amount of spice. The cioppino had a rich shellfish flavor in the broth and I appreciated that the tomato base didn't have such an acidic taste. We also shared the tomahawk, which was juicy, cooked perfectly, and had a sprinkle of coarse salt that really brought out the flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was excellent, but Nate's service really made our night special, making us feel right at home.

The hostess was quite sweet when we walked in. As we had our little fur baby with us, we were seated at one of the tables on the patio. It was still early and that in-between time so it was pretty quiet. A large party was set up next to us. Melinda took care of us and she was the sweetest. Happy hour was happening which we took advantage of. It was 4.00 off appetizer, 2.00 off draft wine and beer. Also, they made sure that our little pup was well taken care of as well. Food wise, an order of the poke wrap. Nice chunks of ahi with a scoop of rice, lettuce, avocado and wasabi sauce. It was good but a little messy. As it would be with all of the lettuce wraps. The steamed mussels which is a must. The broth was delicious and served with two nice thick slices of toasted bread. Decent size mussels cooked deliciously in the broth. A must try. Lastly the calamari which was tossed with jalapeños. Both deep fried and quite tasty. Nice crunch to it but not overly cooked. That was also served with two dipping sauce. Everything was delicious. Towards the end of the meal, Melinda noticed that a bug was in my wine which she was very sweet about and made sure to take care of it. The simple little gesture was greatly appreciative. The whole experience was excellent. Everyone was the sweetest and friendliest. Will definitely be back.

Honestly, since it's inside a hotel, my expectations weren't sky-high, but the food pleasantly surprised me. I'd definitely come back, especially to try their brunch. The reason it's four stars instead of five comes down to the atmosphere and staffing. The restaurant sits right in the hotel lobby with no walls, so you hear everything--hotel guests coming and going, music playing in the lobby, the TV from the bar, and general foot traffic. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxed dinner, this might feel a little overstimulating. Also, our waiter (who was great, by the way) seemed to be doing the job of about three people. He was taking orders, bringing drinks and food, running payments, and even delivering room service. The poor guy was working like he owed the hotel money. On a Friday night, they could definitely use more staff. That said, the food was good, the service was kind, and I'd still come back--next time probably for brunch.
