If I could give this negative stars I would. Never have I ever seen a grown woman lie as much as Shermi did and when I called her out on her lies she got angry. I took a chance with Shermi even after seeing all the negative reviews about her because she was the only person that said they could get a gown ready in time for a wedding in Italy. Needless to say the gown was not made. She required me to spend hundreds of dollars on very specific material to later be told this is not what was needed. She told me she would give me a call a week after the material was dropped off to come for a fitting. She never called so I waited a little longer and called her. When she answered she had no idea what I was talking about and then started rambling things. She then told me to come in the next day. I came in the next day for the fitting and she couldn't remember which dress it was. Once I told her she told me it was NOT there and it was NOT ready for a fitting. ( I was leaving in 3 days time which she guaranteed over and over it would be ready by). I asked why she didn't call me to tell me it wasn't ready she lied and said she did and got angry when I showed her no missed calls from her. Telling me she just started cutting the material the night before that she had for two weeks and was supposed to be ready in 3 days time is completely not ok. I left and called her shortly after to explain that her behavior was not ok. When I say yelling she was screaming at me on the phone that she will no longer do my gown then later lied she never said that. The point of this very long post is that if people are taking their time out of their day to write a review- listen to it. If I had I wouldn't have $750 dollars worth of material just sitting here. I would have had a gown for the wedding. Shermi is a liar and a flat out fraud. If you value your money, sanity, and time seriously go elsewhere. As a side note, she did require a hefty deposit and kept upping the price. It took my husband to get the material and money back from her and she refused to answer my calls. read more

I'm been a customer since she opened on Pico. Just recently she did some work for me & way over charged me. Then I went to pick up my merchandise .....4 times. Avoid like the plague!!! Horrible customer service and attitude! Went to pick up a simple alteration. Her credit card machine wasn't working, an occurrence the owner said was frequent on Sundays (?), so I would have to pay cash. Since I couldn't get to the bank that day but needed the dress urgently, and I was semi-regular customer (including a $5k wedding dress I wasn't exactly happy with the quality of the work), I asked if it was possible to pick up the dress now and come back and pay the next day. She said no! Not exactly vying for the customer service of the year award but fair enough. What came next out of nowhere was the icing on the cake. She rudely said if I didn't like it, I could take my business elsewhere, as she had plenty of customers. Judging from the other reviews over the years, this attitude seems to be her standard business practice. Consider yourself warned! read more

Incredibly RUDE!! On 2 occasions, I approached the ladies with VERY simple tasks, and BOTH times the garments were off....WAY OFF. To make matters even worse, I pointed out the clear mistakes and was told the following, " Ask, Ask , Ask, all you do is ASK!!" Now, keep in mind, I am a paying customer that brings in all my alteration needs AND I work in TV, at a major network studio in the area, and have referred MANY colleagues to this business. Over the past year, the quality of work is embarrassing bad and to be treated so rudely to top it off??? NO WAY!! NEVER AGAIN!!! There are 4 alteration shops on the next 2 blocks up... Shermi is the only tailor I trust. I came to her last year for the first time and ask her to do my engagement dress. I was apprehensive at first, but so so so happy with the result. This year, I was traveling a lot and had my wedding dress made while I was abroad. They did an ok job, but it was clear to me that it didn't have Shermi's touch. I returned to LA and immediately went to Shermi, who not only did the appropriate alterations flawlessly, but also came up with my reception outfit (from scratch!!!!!) with less than two weeks before my wedding. I cannot tell you how happy I am with the result--she did everything perfectly. Not only is her work beautiful, she is also the sweetest person. If she knows you're a mother, she'll call you mommy, which she picked up from a Jamaican neighbor. If you're not sure of what you want, she'll brainstorm with you. If you know exactly what you want, she'll ask questions and draw it out and won't stop until she has the same image of what you want in her head. Shermi is very good with her work. I have gone to her a handful of times, and she makes solid recommendations. If you want to do something that she doesn't feel will be good, she tells you. Her prices are decent too. The reason I am giving her 3 stars, and will likely not return, is because she simply does not follow through and provide clothing when she says she will. And on top of this, she has no respect for your time. Just strings you along. Either tells you a day to pick up and she provides excuses when you arrive because she's not done, or she says she'll make up for it and drop off the clothing (which she does not), or she tells you to simply call her a week later, and at that point, she continues to string you to another day. I stopped by 3 times to pick up the same pair of pants, and she still did not have ready. Said she'd drop off, and is now in India for a month, and didn't even bother following through. I had a school project that I needed sewing assistance with. I explained that I had 100 covers to sew that would ultimately go to a charity. I did not have a big budget, so I asked Shermi to sew what she could and I would get school parents to complete the rest. Don't take your wedding gown here. My mistake, but now I know to warn other brides. Shermi is very nice, but should have been upfront that my dress was out of her league. The problem was the top of my dress and instead of altering it to make it look like it fit me, she left it looking like I didn't fill out the dress. If you were standing next to me, you could see in my dress--not too modest for a Catholic bride. I kept telling her that I thought it needed to be taken in at the front seams and cut a little bit (and I'm not a tailor). But she said that was the wrong way to do it. I think she didn't know how or didn't want to do the work as my dress has some flowers overlaying it that would have had to be removed and then reapplied. Also, she didn't have it finished when she said she would and I had to go back to her several times to try it on. After taking it home and trying it on again, I realized I was very unhappy with it. I took it somewhere else (Farah's Fashion Tailoring), and before telling her what I thought it needed, she suggested exactly what I thought it needed. I gave Shermi a very sentimental garment to patch and she assured me that it would be no problem and it would be clean. Unfortunately, the workmanship was terrible which was extremely upsetting. Terrible. Just Terrible. First, as soon as I arrived Shermi was very rude and judgmental. I brushed off her disgusting temper. She then over charged me for just a hemming. I go to get my dress and she hasn't even started it. After giving it to her for 2 weeks she hadn't even touched my dress. She then began to argue that I was at fault. She made me cry with the nonsense words she was saying like "G-D doesn't love you. be a nice person. you are a bad person." She made me feel like trash and i wasn't welcome in her shop at all. To add to her attitude her work on my dress was hideous she ruined my dress. I don't recommend AT ALL. DO NOT GO. read more
